Great divey bar to watch the game and grab a quick drink along with some bar food. I stopped in at Joe's on a Monday night and ordered a round of beers and some appetizers. They don't cook burgers per temperature, you ask for a rare, you're getting medium well, you ask for a well done, you're getting medium well, you ask for medium well, you're getting medium well. lol The burger buns have changed, no longer do they have soft buns but now they are using that rough Kaiser roll type stuff and I'm not a fan of it. aside from that their fried items taste like their grease could be changed more often. The ambiance of the place is a total dive bar, it might as well be someones household basement bar with meme-ish townie pictures, random scribblings and decor plastered about. A+ I hosted my husbands 40th birthday party here. He loves a good dive bar! We had the back room to ourselves. They provided trays of finger food and everything was nicely set up in the back area. My friend went here on the spur of the moment because she had a giftcard (school fundraiser raffle-cause teacher's drink... A LOT!) This place is small. The new owner, Timmie who was standing outside having a smoke, told us the dining area was closed dor a private event, but we could sit at the bar. Remember I said the place is small, yeah, well "the bar" about 8 seats, were all taken. Timmie delt bad & yelled to Elizabeth, the bartender: "get them whatever drink they want, on me!" And this, ladies & gents, began our 4 hour night at Joe's Place. Beer-Sam Adam's Summer Ale was deliciously cold. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, and baby, that thang was juicy My friend got a bacon cheese burger that she said was a real, handcrafted ground beef burger. The firemen that were (a graduation) provided the entertainment. My friend were the only brown folk in there, and despite the micro-aggressions, we felt comfortable & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Under new ownership, this dive bar is a great place to come and spend time with great people. The bar is basically a family, all the regulars and all the bartenders know each other, and they always welcome newcomers. If you're not into the bar scene, there is restaurant style seating in the back. The food here is really great, a big step above what I've come to expect from a 'dive bar.' We stopped in after reading that Joe's Place was a top recommended burger joint, and we're on a mission to find the best burgers in Jersey. It was a Saturday night, and our fears that this little dive bar might be crowded were thwarted upon our arrival. Besides a small "Joe's Place" sign, the place is nondescript, so look for the green awning. There are also a few random doors, and we had to try 2 or 3 of them until we found one that would lead us inside. There is a bar area and a room in the back for dining. While the bar was full with regulars, the dining area was empty so we found one small table against the wall by the bar. The bartender/waitress was lovely and quite helpful, and one of the regulars gave me a chair with a back so I didn't have to sit on a stool the whole time (so so nice of him to do!) We each ordered a burger, mine being a bacon cheeseburger. It was really just OK. While there was nothing bad about it, I can't sit here and say I would ever crave going back there just for that item. Also, the bun was kind of big and cold - almost like a bakery roll but one that could have been toasted or warmed so it added flavor to the burger instead of just being the thing that the meat sat upon. Two other things to note: 1. The regulars were a bit tipsy and it was only 7pm. This may be a place to go to in order to kick back and cut loose, but it isn't a place to go to to relax and have a casual drink. It was loud, people were stumbling, and there were arguments about a missing $20 with accusations of someone else stealing the money. It was amusing to watch from a distance, but I wouldn't have felt comfortable if we were sitting in the mix with everyone else. 2. There was a sign over the bar that said that "Bar Rescue" was coming. If that's the truth, it'll be interesting to see how this little bar changes in the near future. read more

Recently moved to the area and im a big burger enthusiast so we went to try Joes. The owner came up to us and noticed we were new to the pub and when we told him we just moved to the area he had our first drink on the house! Then he told us about the area and the bar is a neighborhood bar and a little bit about union. We thought that was really awesome for a first impression. They have a good selection of beer. The burgers were awesome, however i am not very partial to having a burger on a kaiser roll, but the patty itself was very flavorful! And reading other reviews of course the bar is loud... its a bar? But i didnt have to scream across the table to be heard . We will certainly be back! read more

I went to Joe's place for the very first time tonight after talking about going for a month and it was beyond fabulous. Bar tender Ann was amazing " I think her name was Ann" I was telling her about my obsession with burgers and she promised me I would be very happy eating a burger from Joe's place. She was right! I had wings and a burger and it was awesome! Bar a little loud but it's ok it was the " regulars" it's a good home town pub bar that everyone knows your name. I have to withdraw my recommendation here. The last time I visited, June 1st, I went with a longtime friend. As we were leaving, a regular and a waitress got into a shouting match with some people in a car. A few racial epithets were uttered by the regular, and it greatly embarrassed me. My friend, sadly, said he was used to hearing things like that but that made me even more determined not to visit the place again. I used to work up the street from Joe's so I guess I became somewhat of a regular there. Joe's is the quintessential bar. I always ate their burgers and left as a happy patron! The burgers are thick and juicy and the bacon is smoked with something because I can taste it all throughout the burger. There's always a mixed bunch from local retirees to suits in that place but all appear to be happy when I am there. Drafts are cheap which appeals to my dolla dolla. I need a draft beer when I eat a burger. I GULP and bottled beer doesn't allow a full gulp. They throw an awesome St. Patricks day party.. kind of wish I was there right now! I would give this place zero stars if I could. My date & I went to grab some drinks here! After spending our money here my date played a pop/rap song on their juke box and was later told by a waitress that the manager said we can't play any rap songs... If an establishment has a jukebox with several genres of music on it you should be able to play the different genres. We left right after. If you want to feel outcasted this is the place to go bc they only cater to a specific crowd. If you like anything other than country music or rock this is probably not the place for you. Walked in here to try a burger due to the reviews. Upon walking in I immediately felt uncomfortable. Only person of color and no friendly looks. I stood in the back corner at the end of the bar waiting for anyone to acknowledge me. The bartender comes over and I ask to see a menu. She tells me the kitchen is closed on Sundays as she's clearing a plate from a guest right in front of me. Heard you loud and clear. My kind isn't welcome. I left expeditiously. read more

Old school bar. Just a watering hole, but has AMAZING burgers. Feels like a dive from a movie but thats what makes it charming. Have been there many times over the years. Had late lunch here which consisted of a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and a salad with blackened chicken. Both salads were awesome and so tasty.
