    Scully Burger

This was a low-key traditional Irish pub with lots of Irish memorabilia throughout the establishment. I was surprised to see the lack of televisions in the main bar area. The service at the bar was appreciated while the menu offered very affordable prices. I had the BBQ wings ($12) and the Scully burger ($14). There were eight wings to an order and varied in size. They seemed to be frozen. They were not bad. The sauce was typical, and each wing had enough present. The burger came with Taylor ham and cheese. I ordered it medium rare but was more like medium. This also appeared to be frozen, but still was okay. It was rather large. The side of fries were flavorless. The Taylor ham could have been cooked longer too. I also tried the BBQ burger, which was ordered medium rare, but came out medium. This had sauteed onions, pepperjack cheese, and BBQ sauce. Again, this was alright, messy with the amount of sauce that was used. Will I go back? Sure.

This is definitely a low key university bar - it is across from the Rutger's campus. The bartenders are very friendly and they have your usual selection of old school liquor from back in the day ! lol They have a kitchen so if you are needing a snack - of fried foods, definitely come to this spot. It is a local Irish bar with emergency service helmets hanging from The ceiling which is pretty unique

Very hard to park. Extremely slow service. Food ok. Prices are high but inline with the times and the area.

McGovern's is a staple of the Newark lunch scene, not to mention the Rutgers bar scene. Find your way in here on your typical lunch period and you'll see a packed bar, with a good amount of beers on tap and some lively bartenders pouring them out. Beyond the bar, there is plenty of seating for a sit down meal - though you should still expect a louder bar atmosphere. If you haven't been here in the last few years due to Covid and renovations, you may remember the waiters being a bit more... relaxed. That seems to have changed, with attentive servers and food runners that kept the tables moving. The food itself is still great, with quality Burgers paired with fresh fries (or disco fries, if you're feeling like you need more gravy in your life). They've got other offerings ranging from wraps to salads, and even some classic Irish dishes for dinner (e.g., Shephard's pie). But if you're here for the experience, stick with the burger, grab a beer, and enjoy the ambiance of a Newark legend.

    Buffalo Chicken Wrap

Cheated, on my diet, for this and almost threw up. Fries have a gross, dirty grease, taste. Chicken strips taste like they're not actual chicken. Don't know what's off, about the buffalo sauce, but it was a regret, too. Service and place was nice, though! OH, and I liked the tortilla lol. It tasted different and good.

Terrible. Just terrible. Pizza is equivalent to eating cardboard. Grilled cheese not grilled.

Kevin has been a legend in Newark as the most amazing server in town. He's worked several establishments over the years. Miss you bro!

The only place to go if you want a good pub and burger. Not overpriced like everywhere else in Newark. Probably have eaten there over a hundred times and never disappointed in a burger. Not expect high end dishes or any fancy appies. If you like fried bar food, a burger, or chicken sandwich, this is the place. And of course the best happy hour in town. Service has never been a problem, especially when you get to know them. Kevin has been my favorite and has tested me like family. About the only think I miss in Newark may be McGoverns happy hours and Kevin. Three facility was expanded and upgraded during COVID-19 but they retained the original bar area and it's roots adorned with police and fire badges from all over the state.

We stopped by Mc Govern on a weekday noon for lunch. Its situated in the busy area of Newark, so parking is sorta difficult to get during lunch hours. The restaurant has nice Irish pub ambiance, but appears somewhat stale with its interiors and furniture. Food wise I did like my corn beef rueben. The ingredients blended well. Sweet potato fries were good too. We will visit this place often since it's a decent lunch spot.

It's also conveniently located near cultural and residential areas, making it a solid pre-game or pre-concert stop. They had happy hour going on, which is always a plus. Service was surprisingly attentive for a dive bar--we were hanging out in the back, and the staff still checked on us regularly, which I appreciated. The atmosphere was chill, exactly what you'd expect from a neighborhood bar. I had a glass of Merlot, which was decent, though in hindsight, a draft beer probably would've been the better move for the setting. As for food, I got the wings--big, decent, and satisfying, though not the best I've ever had. Still, they did the job. Overall, Kill Kenny AleHouse is a solid local spot if you're looking for a relaxed, no-frills place to grab a drink and some bar food. I'd definitely come back when I'm in the area and need a casual spot to unwind.

The gratin was perfectly done, the broth was rich and flavorful, and everything tasted balanced and well executed. We started with a Tito's mule and a passion fruit margarita -- both refreshing and well made. The garlic and cheese Jersey wings with their house sauce were outstanding and full of flavor. The mac and cheese was incredibly creamy, generously cheesy, and finished with a golden crust that added great texture. The ribeye with spinach was cooked to the perfect temperature, and the blue cheese burger with bacon and onion rings had an amazing contrast between creamy and crispy. The mushroom pizza with extra cheese was another great choice. The menu offers Irish, Italian, and American options, so there's something for everyone. It's a family-friendly sports bar with a welcoming atmosphere -- perfect for watching your favorite team while enjoying great food. Highly recommend. We will absolutely return.
