    Super Slinger
    Domonique C.

A coworker brought me here to what I can only call a hidden gem. I had driven past here many times but never thought of going inside but am I so glad I did! Do not let the size of the restaurant fool you, they are cooking up some great breakfast. The order at the counter and bare bones environment will have you shocked by the great food. I had a pancake that was cooked to perfection. It tasted as if my mama cooked it in our kitchen. I also had the Super Slinger which was so good I almost ordered a second. My tip: pull over immediately and try this place!

Good burger joint! It's been here forever! The burger I recommend is the chili cheese burger. It is extremely small and can get overwhelmingly busy around lunch time, so go earlier. The service is good and many of the workers seem to have an unlimited memory of peoples names! The ambience is of the old school greasy spoon diner style place but with good meals!

Downtown staple! Pleasant staff, who take pride in preparing your order just as requested. Food comes out fresh, prompt & piping hot. Properly priced. Masks required. Indoor seating available as is takeaway. Call in ahead if you're in a time crunch. Plenty parking so stop in for a bite during their weekday breakfast/lunch hours. ~Christy approved!

Like going back in time, serving up 1950 style burgers. You can taste the nostalgia. You can taste the pride in the ingredients. Tiny on the inside. You can see the food cooked right in front of you. Staff is very friendly. Check it out if you in town. Fries satisfy your craving but aren't going to blow your mind. Lemonade seemed to be the drink every was getting.

    It's Slinger Time!

Talk about a life changing experience! I'm not a big breakfast person. The White Knight Diner changed that. I had the Slinger! Hamburger, eggs, hash browns and Chili! Watch out breakfast will never be the same again! Great staff! They are friendly and efficient. The food is excellent! Fair prices. You can grab breakfast or lunch here daily.

WKD is what you see in your head when you think of a classic diner. So why only see it in your head, come have a classic breakfast or a lunch plate. Chances are you may have to wait for a seat, they're are only 28 in the whole diner. If you are in a rush, they do offer carry-out, but I've been told the wait for carry-out can be a half hour, so do call ahead. I've always wanted to come here, even before the filmed the modern day romantic drama, White Palace here on location. That movie was made 28 years ago and I am finally getting here. Damn, I'm embarrassed that it took me so long. I came with a friend who lives downtown and only a block away. He's a semi-regular and said I had to experience it. Now that I have, I can honestly say, WKD is by far the best diner in STL. My breakfast was great & I'll be back soon to experience a diner burger. My breakfast was a three egg omelet with bacon, cheddar cheese and jalapeños, with a side of Hash-Browns. The omelet was perfectly grilled for me, no extra dark brown spots on the outside. Mine was a beautiful light yellow all around. The inside was stuffed with large pieces of bacon and an ample amount of jalapeños all smothered in the cheddar cheese. My side of HB's was super crispy on top. Normally, I like to be crisp on top and bottom, but these having a super crisp top were very satisfying. The friend who encouraged me to go, ordered a Super Slinger. What a classic diner treat. Hamburger patty, eggs, smothered in chili and topped with diced green peppers and white onion. He joked that he'd probably have heartburn, but it is always worth it. The coffee was diner strong and the service was down-home diner friendly. Ambiance is stuck in a time warp and that is all part of the charm of this tiny diner. I'll be back? - Gotta try a burger When: March 20, 2019 Why: Breakfast

Super slinger with side of bacon

Came in around 11:00 am and there were about 5 people waiting in the small diner. Ordered the super slinger with a side of bacon and was told it would be about a half hour wait. I said ok and left for a while. Came back right around a half hour later and the cashier was in the middle of completing another order. As soon as she was done she grabbed my bag and gave it to me. Once I got back to work to eat I was pleasantly surprised. I assumed they would have already smothered it in chili, but it came separate in a little container so everything was still dry and not overly soggy. The food was still really warm so it must have been fresh when I picked it up, no complaints so far. The food itself was pretty good. Never had a slinger before but always wanted to try one. Hash browns were cooked well and tasty with the onions sprinkled in. The egg, burger, hashbrowns, and chili work really well together. The bacon was slightly soggy and not as crispy as I like, but still very good. Overall I would give it a 4.5 but don't have that option. Not quite 5 stars, but I will definitely be back for this dish along with trying some more.

It's counter service, and you get to see all of the meats and sides while ordering, which makes it tough to decide what to get! I went with the Brisket Dip Sandwich and a side of banana pudding, and both were fantastic. The brisket was tender, the sandwich was packed with flavor, and the au jus really brought everything together. It was great on its own, but every table also has a selection of BBQ sauces to try. The Coffee BBQ sauce was the most interesting one, but it was fun sampling all of them to see which I liked best. If you're in St. Louis and craving BBQ, Sugarfire is definitely worth checking out!

Anything that tastes a little bit more time to prepare they will bring out to you on the floor. Keeps things flowing very well. I got the four bones (baby backs), broccoli salad (premium side, one dollar up charge), and coleslaw. I also grabbed a piece of sweet cornbread with honey butter, and fried green tomatoes with a lemon aïoli. The bones were not rendered as much as I would've liked, the fat layers were still too thick. But the flavor was good. And every table has six different sauces and you can have as much sauce as you want. I tried them all, and my personal favorites were the Carolina mustard, and the Texas hot sauce. The white barbecue was also very interesting. But they're all good. Fried green tomatoes were terrific! Broccoli salad and the coleslaw were pretty tasteless. As was the cornbread. Really wouldn't describe that as sweet cornbread. It seemed a mostly just wheat flour cornbread. The honey butter on its own was really the best side. I'm not unhappy that I came here, but would I seek it out again or try something else in the area? I would try something else in the area. And for that reason I am leaning toward 3 starts. Although the staff is terrific and really hustles here, and that is why I have to bump this up to four stars.

We arrived right on time for our reservation, stood for quite a few minutes in a half-empty house before being seated, then waited a very long time between visits from our apparently over-stretched waitstaff. The first cocktail I chose wasn't available; nor was the first entree. I settled on the "red wine flight", and it arrived in three glasses. The server recited their names, but I didn't catch them. Food was middle of the road. A smoked sirloin sandwich was tasty, though rather well-done. And the order of "salmon cakes", which the menu says is made of "smoked salmon, roast corn, tomato, cucumber, creme fraiche, and capers" was in fact just one cake (not cakes!), smaller than a hockey puck (about 1/2" thick max) and seemed to be made of canned fish, not the bright orange of smoked salmon. It was accompanied by five thin slices of cucumber and three or four halved grape tomatoes. No corn, no capers. It was so boring, and an overpriced disappointment at $23. If this Bridge is actually closing and focusing on the event space, they've gone out with a whimper. And if they're actually continuing service, I hope they get the food a little closer to the menu descriptions. Our drinks and water glasses were empty for long stretches. Our server was very pleasant and polite, but must've had way too much to do.

I'm a huge fried chicken fan and I've been to them all - Porter's, King Edwards, Hodaks, Kentucky Fried, Churchs, Gallagher's across the river. Every time I visit a new area, I look for the used book stores and the chicken restaurants. The pieces here at the St. Louis Room are huge and meaty. Perfectly done and juicy - I have never gotten an over- or underdone piece. The skin is crispy and crackly. Not much seasoning at all, so you can taste the chicken. The restaurant is on the 6th Floor and it is an all-you-can-eat buffet, but you can also get the chicken plated in the 2nd floor restaurant. Along with the fried chicken are two surprisingly good and large buffet tables. On the hot foods buffet: mashed potatoes (instant - ugh! - substitute a yummy baked potato instead, found on the end of the buffet), a creamy gravy with a touch of what tastes like nutmeg (weird, but it *works*), two soups (their famous French onion soup is also available - request it from your waitress), spaghetti, cornbread and greens. Also on the hot foods buffet is a taco / baked potato bar. On the salad buffet is a wide assortment of fresh veggies to help you compensate for your guilt in overeating that fried chicken! There's a small selection of desserts, and you can request their fabulous bread pudding from the waitress - it tastes exactly like my great-grandma used to make back in the day. Service is always good and extremely friendly. Most of the waitresses have been there for *years* - I always sat in the wait area of Ms. Mildred for 20+ years, until she passed away recently, and you'll often see people waiting for a table to be cleared in "their" waitress's area. There are two lines for checking out - one line takes cash or credit, the other line takes cash only. I recommend you bring cash to get out quicker because the credit line takes much longer. Everything is available for take-out as well. My only complaint is that they sometimes temporarily run out of chicken due to the high volume of customers. It only takes a couple of minutes before they bring out fresh trays, and then you'll see the waiting crowd fall on them like starving birdies on a winter's day will fall on bread crumbs. The cost for this never-ending feast of fabulous fried chicken is $9.00: drink, dessert and tax included.
