    Saxophonist Greg Lewis

My family and I celebrate one of my aunt's birthday this past Wednesday. Union 30 is a lovely restaurant located inside the Hotel Saint Louis lobby. It happened to be Wine Down Wednesday with wine specials, happy hour from 5-7, and live music by saxophonist, Greg Lewis. He was phenomenal! The food was good. I ordered The Louie Burger with fries. It was lightly seasoned but still good. Other family ordered various meals and seemed to enjoy them as well. Service was decent especially with the amount of people celebrating with us...40 plus family members! The only gripe I gave is when it came to the bill. Of course every check automatically included 20% gratuity. Fine. I paid with cash and was due some change. However, my server took it upon herself to keep it without asking. When I asked about it, she literally said "it was only $4...do you want it back?" I paused for a moment thinking of letting her keep it but then said "yes". She went to get it, gave it to me without a word and walked away. It was the principal of her taking it instead of asking do I need change back even though I already paid 20% with the bill. Besides, I can't get away with being $4 short on my bill without an issue.

Solid option for food in a rather depressed area of downtown. Let's be honest, downtown STL is rather depressing. Myriad buildings are vacant, rampant construction on most streets, limited restaurants, and a fair amount of loitering. While this might work out well for street parking (free weekdays after 7 p.m. until 8 a.m.; no charge Sunday), it's a mixed bag for a vacation or work related trip. Thankfully the St. Louis Hotel has $10 voucher for Marriott platinum status* and above. This includes 'The Louis' breakfast plate ($13) or $10 off any menu item. We can definitely vouch for the pancake and The Louis as we had them regularly (see photos). Coffee, juice, and other nonalcoholic beverages were decent enough. *For those of you with status to get into the club (recently renamed, Adler Pantry), lower your expectations. This is literally a quiet place outside your room with water, soda, tea, coffee, and the occasional snack. Do not expect any breakfast or dinner related appetizers; definitely not alcohol. My only gripe with Union 30--inconsistent billing and lackadaisical service. Two out of the three days we ordered the same breakfast meal + drinks only to have one be $7 cheaper than the other. I also agree with Yelper Nathaniel C. who suggested he had to 'raid the bar to refill my coffee'; even with limited patrons, attentive service is not happening.

This breakfast is included for platinum and above memberships. It's always very easy and quick service. Has great vibes after 5 PM. People from the area come in and have drinks here too. Has a limited but solid menu. Sometimes less is more. Also, had a great encounter with the general manager this afternoon. Stopped by to grab some lunch and wasn't aware they close from 1 PM to 5 PM but the GM spotted me standing by the hostess desk and informed me of the hours and recommended some local eats. She walked me out the side door and gave me directions and everything. That was just amazing! I wish I would have caught her name but she was truly a professional. Highly recommended!

Ace is the beeeeessssttttt!! Love me my spoked old fashioned from hotel STL! This is the most beautiful hotel! Absolutely stunning! Union 30 is the hotel lobby restaurant! Stop in and tell Ace I said hello!

This restaurant is in the lobby of the Hotel St. Louis. I had the filet, roasted veggies, and the bacon Brussels sprouts, and several cocktails. The food was pretty good, with prices expected at a hotel restaurant. The menu is elevated southern comfort food maybe? The drinks weren't bad, but nothing stellar. The Brussels sprouts were my favorite, smoky and quite tasty. The main issue here is service and overall feel. Maybe it's a COVID funk, maybe it's slow business, but this place just oozes apathy. It was like a corpse of a place with only a table or two and a few bar patrons. My server tried her hardest, but was a newer employee, and it didn't seem anyone wanted to play as a team. Service was also incredibly slow. That's ok because I was in no hurry. But there was such a feeling of not caring. I'm a person who rates mostly based on experience and how a place makes me feel, and this left me feeling almost icky. The rest of the hotel staff was delightful during our stay, so it was definitely just the restaurant. My husband returned later and we made a large room service order. His cauliflower steak was about a quarter of the size of normal cauliflower steaks. Potential here, but next time we'll pass.

They food was excellent I sampled a piece from everyone at my table. The building had great historical architecture and was beautiful. It's a really nice place I will visit here again just for drinks the bar is beautiful. I highly recommend eating here.

I came here for a "Teamsgiving" lunch today with a company I freelance for downtown. While Union 30 in the STL Hotel itself is beautifully designed and decorated, the food itself is a disappointing letdown. There were 5 team members dining at our table today. Drinks were ordered and brought out within a reasonable time, however, I never received a refill the entire time I dined for my water. No one at the table received a water refill, and that's all some of us were drinking. I got excited when I saw Famous Barr French Onion Soup, since this was one of my grandmother's favorites growing up. I ordered a bowl as well as a Gateway Burger. The burger arrived before the soup, quite soggy and greasy at the base to the point the meat broke through the bread. When I asked about the soup the server brought it out a few minutes later. The soup was so disappointing. There was meat in it that was mushy and mostly fat, and the broth and contents had the viscosity of a canned soup. I've never had such an unpleasant version of a French Onion Soup, and this was such a letdown. After two bites, I left the rest alone. Along with never coming by to check on the table or refill water, the server never asked how our food was or how we were doing. The whole lunch experience was a major disappointment, but it doesn't seem like the staff, kitchen or management seem to care. There are so many wonderful restaurants in St. Louis to help support, and this kind of disinterest in your customers does not make me want to return.

Famous Barr-ish soup with prime rib and croutons in it for some reason
    Tia Y.

I'm very conflicted. The historic, old-school ambience was lovely, the staff was friendly and chatty. We had real silver and glasses for our water. We had high expectations for the meal when the executive chef himself came around to all of the tables and chatted. The one, ONLY, entire reason we came to this restaurant was for the Famous Barr advertisements. No, for some reason we did not read the reviews. If we had, we may have thought the kinks were out of the recipes by now. Maybe. (Sigh) I specifically mentioned being gluten-free and having stomach sensitivities, to both our waitress and the executive chef. He created a way to complete my sweet potato gnocchi meal within those parameters. I ordered a mixed salad that was supposed to be tossed with vinaigrette. It arrived without dressing at all. Long after I requested salad dressing I was given a small plastic ramekin of generic ranch. As you can see in the attached photo, the soup looks amazing. Why does it include prime rib and croutons? My husband picked this restaurant to enjoy something special from his childhood and was thoroughly disappointed. While I was still waiting for salad dressing our main courses came out. Why? I was frustrated and confused about the timing, and now had to choose between a salad with no dressing and allowing my entree to get cold. The waitress offered to get me a cover for my hot food, but it NEVER came. Unfortunately, the entire experience was ruined when the soup and John White burger did not live up to history. The burger was ordinary, the fried onion straws were great, the cheese sauce tasted like flour and pepper. I'm no chef, but my rue is still better. My husband did not receive his side of Billy Goat chips. We had to ask a second and third person for them, and then he received two bags later in the meal. The sweet potato gnocchi was understandably flavorless. That's how gnocchi starts. It's supposed to have seasoning, sauce, meat broth,... I don't know I'm not a chef but it was somebody's responsibility to figure it out. As I stated, the chef was nice enough to create something because I couldn't have any of the vegetables he happened to have on hand (I guess they only use what is locally available that day). He added burnt pork ends to my gnocchi which I was hoping would add some drippings or broth for flavor. No. And they were very fatty. Remember when I mentioned I was gluten-free? Apparently neither the waitress nor the executive chef, who supposedly made our food himself, remembered. My food was topped with a cold Panko-encrusted goat cheese ball. The reason I know it was cold is because I bit into it before I realized this was not a gluten-free covering. Thankfully, I do not have celiac disease, only severe stomach sensitivities. We discovered that all of the wait staff (and food) must go up and down one very slow elevator and communication is probably a nightmare. Our warm, delightful, and chatty staff did not seem to care that we had no salad dressing, that our entrées arrived just halfway through the starters, that we didn't have a hot plate cover or chips... It was a strange juxtaposition of service. We drove 30 minutes to get there and paid $76 for this! I really wanted to give two stars just because we had a nice time but...

    Delicious salmon at dinner.

We are staying at the Hotel Saint Louis for our honeymoon and have eaten at the Union 30 restaurant twice now, once for dinner and once for breakfast. The ambiance is wonderful with excellent lighting and a very upscale feel. Our servers have been extremely sweet and attentive. The food is also delicious, as are the drinks. However, the food is very expensive and the price has seemed a bit disproportioned to the size of the dish you receive. It also took a very long time to receive our food, however our server was extremely apologetic for delays.

A restaurant located in the new St Louis hotel downtown, the diners present there were mainly those who stayed in the hotel (usually the case for hotel restaurants). The décor is extremely cute and tasteful and the service is fast. Food is good, standard, nothing special. Price reasonable. Has typical brunch food. My s/o got the ramen with pork and I got a typical breakfast with sausage, scrambled eggs and potatoes.

Wow this place is a hot mess. So poorly managed. The bar tender looked like he wanted to walk out. The person helping us took their lunch break in the middle of service. No one helped us for about 30 minutes. She had a to go food container from another restaurant. The salad and soup never came out. The burger was ok but had a pungent taste from the cheese. The salad finally came out but wrong. Three tries later still wasn't correct. The Soup came out after we asked about it 2 times. It was so nasty tasting I asked to have the salad and soup removed from my bill. The folks sitting both sides of us were just as disappointed as we were. I felt bad for the wait staff. They had no clue what they were doing. It looked liked complete chaos trying to get food out to the dinning area. Lots of other good choices in the area. They will get my business when I visit the city.

Filet...I ordered medium. This is what I received.

I got the four bones (baby backs), broccoli salad (premium side, one dollar up charge), and coleslaw. I also grabbed a piece of sweet cornbread with honey butter, and fried green tomatoes with a lemon aïoli. The bones were not rendered as much as I would've liked, the fat layers were still too thick. But the flavor was good. And every table has six different sauces and you can have as much sauce as you want. I tried them all, and my personal favorites were the Carolina mustard, and the Texas hot sauce. The white barbecue was also very interesting. But they're all good. Fried green tomatoes were terrific! Broccoli salad and the coleslaw were pretty tasteless. As was the cornbread. Really wouldn't describe that as sweet cornbread. It seemed a mostly just wheat flour cornbread. The honey butter on its own was really the best side. I'm not unhappy that I came here, but would I seek it out again or try something else in the area? I would try something else in the area. And for that reason I am leaning toward 3 starts. Although the staff is terrific and really hustles here, and that is why I have to bump this up to four stars.

We arrived right on time for our reservation, stood for quite a few minutes in a half-empty house before being seated, then waited a very long time between visits from our apparently over-stretched waitstaff. The first cocktail I chose wasn't available; nor was the first entree. I settled on the "red wine flight", and it arrived in three glasses. The server recited their names, but I didn't catch them. Food was middle of the road. A smoked sirloin sandwich was tasty, though rather well-done. And the order of "salmon cakes", which the menu says is made of "smoked salmon, roast corn, tomato, cucumber, creme fraiche, and capers" was in fact just one cake (not cakes!), smaller than a hockey puck (about 1/2" thick max) and seemed to be made of canned fish, not the bright orange of smoked salmon. It was accompanied by five thin slices of cucumber and three or four halved grape tomatoes. No corn, no capers. It was so boring, and an overpriced disappointment at $23. If this Bridge is actually closing and focusing on the event space, they've gone out with a whimper. And if they're actually continuing service, I hope they get the food a little closer to the menu descriptions. Our drinks and water glasses were empty for long stretches. I'm a huge fried chicken fan and I've been to them all - Porter's, King Edwards, Hodaks, Kentucky Fried, Churchs, Gallagher's across the river. Every time I visit a new area, I look for the used book stores and the chicken restaurants. The pieces here at the St. Louis Room are huge and meaty. Perfectly done and juicy - I have never gotten an over- or underdone piece. The skin is crispy and crackly. Not much seasoning at all, so you can taste the chicken. The restaurant is on the 6th Floor and it is an all-you-can-eat buffet, but you can also get the chicken plated in the 2nd floor restaurant. Along with the fried chicken are two surprisingly good and large buffet tables. On the hot foods buffet: mashed potatoes (instant - ugh! - substitute a yummy baked potato instead, found on the end of the buffet), a creamy gravy with a touch of what tastes like nutmeg (weird, but it *works*), two soups (their famous French onion soup is also available - request it from your waitress), spaghetti, cornbread and greens. Also on the hot foods buffet is a taco / baked potato bar. On the salad buffet is a wide assortment of fresh veggies to help you compensate for your guilt in overeating that fried chicken! There's a small selection of desserts, and you can request their fabulous bread pudding from the waitress - it tastes exactly like my great-grandma used to make back in the day. Service is always good and extremely friendly. Most of the waitresses have been there for *years* - I always sat in the wait area of Ms. Mildred for 20+ years, until she passed away recently, and you'll often see people waiting for a table to be cleared in "their" waitress's area. There are two lines for checking out - one line takes cash or credit, the other line takes cash only. I recommend you bring cash to get out quicker because the credit line takes much longer. Everything is available for take-out as well. My only complaint is that they sometimes temporarily run out of chicken due to the high volume of customers. It only takes a couple of minutes before they bring out fresh trays, and then you'll see the waiting crowd fall on them like starving birdies on a winter's day will fall on bread crumbs. The cost for this never-ending feast of fabulous fried chicken is $9.00: drink, dessert and tax included.
