Location is everything! Well, almost everything. We checked into the hotel prior to attending an event nearby. We decided that we didn't want to drive anywhere and the restaurant here was open. So in we went. The server was very friendly. The food was good but nothing fantastic. The bar area was really crowded for mid day as a number of other people that were attending a wedding appeared to be getting an early start before getting ready. 3 stars since it was crowded and understaffed. We ordered a bunch of appetizers instead of meals and we enjoyed them. Overall, a good experience. Convenient location for downtown activities near the stadium. read more

Granted the evening we ate here there was the Billy Joel concert next door to the hotel, but the concert was planned for many months in advance so management should have prepared appropriately. We made the reservation about 8 hours in advance, and were seated on time. That's where the pleasant experience ended. It took 15 minutes for the waitress to greet us, and another 15 minutes to get our drink order to the table, with water. So 30 minutes for our first sip of anything. We ordered the Tomato Bisque as an appetizer for each of us. When we received it, it was lukewarm, and with no waitress in sight, we couldn't send it back so we slugged it down. The bisque tasted exactly like marinara sauce by the way...not what you would expect. After another 10 minutes, our waitress came by and took our food order. She was panting and in sheer panic mode, as from what I could tell...she had 10 or so tables she was waiting on....none of which had happy campers seated at them. I scanned the area and noticed everyone was perturbed in one way or another. One table of women was sat next to us...a party of 4. They were there for 30 minutes with not so much as a wave from anyone that worked there. No water, no drink order, etc. So they stood up and left. Our food came 30 minutes after we ordered it. My dish, the seared tuna, contained about 4oz of fish making it an exceptionally bad value (close to $40). My wife had the chicken with cumin. The cumin was lathered on the top of the chicken in a paste, making it overpowering. Never saw that before! Her sweet potato smash was cold. Once again, no waitress or anyone to complain to. I finally asked the food runner to get the manager for us. About 15 minutes later, I asked him again. He said 'I asked her twice!' and seemed miffed also. She walked by and I said 'Excuse me m'am??'...she pretended not to hear me and continued walking. Stats: $138 for party of 2 1-1/2 hour dinner 0 water refills 0 second drink 0% chance we'll be back! read more

My girlfriend and I checked in to the Westin St. Louis after a long day's drive from north of Detroit, MI. Once there, we decided to eat at the Clark Street Grill, and are we ever glad we did. We split a ribeye steak (it was MORE than enough for the two of us), which was served lightly grilled asparagus and red skin potatoes. It was to die for!! The best part was Charles, the chef, came out to greet us, which gave us the opportunity to compliment him on his work. Our waiter, Marquis, was also very attentive to our needs throughout our meal. I decided at the last minute to make a later dinner reservation for my birthday. We arrived at 8 on a Wednesday night and there were about 6 or 7 other tables of people seated. Even though there were multiple people going around refilling waters and busing tables, there was only 1 waiter. He was doing his best to keep up, but it was obvious that they were understaffed. I had a nice glass of Riesling to start out the night. We weren't incredibly hungry so we decided to forgo appetizers or salads and go straight to the main course. I decided to go with the grilled bone-in pork chop with apple and dried cherry chutney. The pork was juicy and tender and chutney was definitely a worthy addition. For the side, I ordered the red wine braised mushrooms. This was a huge portion of mushrooms, but the flavor of the red wine was overpowering and I didn't really enjoy them. My partner initially ordered the herb stuffed wing tip chicken breast, but unfortunately they were out of the chicken and he settled for the pork as well. This was disappointing since I was looking forward to trying the chicken to get a better sampling of their food. Instead of the mushrooms, he went with the roasted garlic mash. They had a strong garlic flavor (which is good), but the potato itself seemed ordinary. For the price, I wasn't particularly impressed. There are so many good restaurants downtown and I don't have time or money to waste on ones that aren't spectacular. If you are staying in the Westin, I think this might be a good option. For locals, it isn't worth the trip IMO. read more

This establishment is inside the hotel. If you are staying here and convenience forces you to eat here, you will not suffer but you will be oh so very underwhelmed. It is an empty venue and with my Groupon in hand we dined. I had the recommended "grilled bone-in pork chop with apple & dried cherry chutney, dijon mustard sauce ($24.) It was average, at best. It didn't taste bad but I could not feel more unimpressed with a meal. My husband "grilled new york strip, sage butter ($30.) He also thought it was very average. The food filled you, it wasn't horrible, that's it. Meh. Not the best qualifications for going out to eat, let alone a date night. I always hate putting the negative things down for a review but this place is not worth anyone's time or tummies. TLDR: If you are staying at the hotel, your pocketbook might suffer a bit but convenience should be your ONLY reason to eat here. If you have a car rented, you should be driving somewhere else to eat! So many WAY better places for the same or less price in the area. read more

As everyone says, this is inside the Westin Hotel. If you happen to be staying there and are without a car, you might dine here for the sheer convenience of it. I went in for lunch prior to a meeting for a quick bite with a colleague. We both ordered salads with flank steak. ($18 each for a salad.) Mine was supposed to come with ricotta, almonds and strawberries with my steak prepared to Medium. When my salad arrived it had tomatoes & cucumbers - no almonds, ricotta, strawberries. The steak was medium rare (and my colleagues was medium). What gives? Anyway, not a big deal, I called the waiter over and informed him. He quickly took it back to the bar and conferred with oh, five other people about my salad. Then he came back a few moments later with a salad with four pieces of meat (original salad had around 6-7 pieces), strawberries, walnuts and goat cheese. I gave up and ate it. I didn't dare send it back again. I was hungry and in kind of a rush. He never came back to ask if everything was OK, only to ask if we wanted dessert. The food was average and the service was pretty poor. I will probably have to eat there again but at least I'll have lowered my expectations. read more

I grew up on pot roast. That's what we meat and potatoes, crock pot lovin, Midwestern gals considered a fancy meal in the late 80's. Fast forward to today. While my tastes may have grown up and become more edited...I still love nothing more than a slow roasted piece of red meat. Hence - braised short ribs. They are probably one of my very favorite things to eat. So you can imagine when walking by the Clark Street Grill booth at the Taste of St. Louis last weekend, and spotted none other than "Beef Short Ribs" on the board, I just had to give the little guys a try. O.M.G! Isn't fair food supposed to be bad? These were as the chef said "fall off the bone" pieces of little heaven. All I needed was a good side of mashed potatoes and a bed to fall into and I would have been set for the night. After a little investigating I found out these bad boys are on the regular menu at CSG. Wasn't expecting much but was very pleasantly surprised! We arrived late, just before closing but our waitress was great and the food we had was remarkable. Best hamburger I ever ate and I've eaten a lot of burgers in my 70 years! My husband had the sesame crusted salmon salad and it was to die for! Was veryyyy surprises this was well rated on Open Table. They tried here but whoever is running the kitchen is trying to be highbrow when they should stick to basics. Caesar salad- very basic/ nothing special. Lettuce was romaine but very light in color looked more like iceberg. Mozzarella sticks- generic frozen ones with sour marinara sauce. Flank steak- steak was ok needed seasoning. Horseradish mashed potatoes were so heavy on the horseradish they were literally inedible... and I like horseradish a lot! Asparagus was also not seasoned and just ok. Crab cakes- over an odd cucumber salad, tasted fishy and looked like flat silver dollar pancakes. I would not have know they were supposed to be crab cakes by looking at them. There was just a lot of combinations that sounded odd- scallops and goat cheese, egg noodles with pineapple, salmon with cumin etc. It was very pricey and over $120 for two people one person who did not have an entree. It makes me sad that the last review for this place was nearly 2 years ago, but I can't say I'm too surprised. This place is hidden!! The only reason my husband even knew about it was because they were part of the 2010 Downtown Restaurant Week and their menu caught my eye in a big way. I made reservations for a Friday evening because it was a Friday evening and I figured I had to! I think in hindsight, we didn't need to. There were only a handful of people in the restaurant which had me a little nervous, but it also made for super attentive servers and pretty great ambiance and atmosphere. The restaurant has a very urban, warehouse feel, but have dressed it up to create a pretty fancy place. The attire is casual dressy and I saw a little bit of everything. There were candles and linens on all the tables to create a romantic experience. Our server was always there when we needed her and even the GM or possibly the owner came up and asked how our meal was. As for the meal, it was delectable!! My husband and I got the same first course because it was too amazing to pass up. Good choice. It was a 4-cheese, lobster ravioli in a super creamy garlic sauce. Holy amazing, Batman!! Honestly, the appetizer is what drove me to this place initially. It did not disappoint. First time I'd ever really had lobster and I'm not a seafood person, but it was perfectly cooked where it was the perfect texture and the flavor was very full, but not overwhelming. Our main entrees were also wonderful. I had the chicken spinach penne which wasn't anything too different, but the flavors were really rich and enjoyable. There was enough for me to have eaten my full on Friday, and still have enough for lunch for both me and my husband the next day. My husband's didn't last that long. He had the grilled flat iron steak with garlic mashed potatoes. It was one of the best steaks he said he's had and the potatoes were whipped, light, and creamy to perfection. For dessert, he got the chocolate cake and I got the gooey butter bars. I say that, but we basically ate from each others plates enough not to put a label on who ordered what. The cake was HUGE! I expected our portions to be a bit on the small side considering the DRW deal, but I was so wrong. The gooey butter bars were also very toffee flavored which was a really interesting take on that particular item. I've never had one quite like it and have to say, it was one of the better bars I've had from a restaurant. We left feeling full and extremely satisfied with our choice. Now, I didn't give it 5 stars for one main reason. I've seen their regular menu and it's not very extensive, nor do I think the prices are as reasonable as I think they should be. We got a great deal with DRW, but if we hadn't been able to get all that food for just $25 a person, I'm not sure we'd go back. It was a great experience, but I'm not sure we'll feel comfortable spending that kind of money, or more, on the same menu items offered to us last week. I also realize this restaurant is located in one of the more expensive hotels, so they are doing a good job playing to their market. However, I don't think they get a whole lot of downtown business otherwise. I would love to be wrong about that, though. If my husband and I are looking for a fancy dinner somewhere down the road, I would gladly make the trip downtown to the Westin across from the ballpark for another helping of those lobster raviolis!! read more

It's inside the Westin hotel and right next to Busch Stadium where the Cardinals play. Parking is not cheap but I think it can be validated from your receipt. I was a guest at the hotel and dined here for breakfast and it was exceptional! The coffee was 3$ which is expensive but typical for an SPG hotel restaurant. The food and service was fantastic! There was also a good night life scene the night before. Very expensive... typical SPG hotel restaurant... prolly wouldn't go there if I weren't staying at the hotel... but would love to stay at the hotel again. No complaints! read more

My experience and my food was excellent. My server was attentive and polite. Her service enhanced the meal. The Manager was also very professional and courteous. I had a simple and well prepared Caesar salad. Not too much dressing. Plenty of flavor. I also had the pasta with chicken and vegetables. It was delicious and fresh. It had a very light cream sauce that, along with the fresh veggies made it a lighter dish than you may expect. I tried three places in the immediate area and although this is one you would expect to be a class above because it is in a Westin.... by contrast it was heaven. read more

I agree with the post that this is overpriced, but consider the convenience (especially if youre in the hotel) and variety, I'll take it. Also, compared to some of the other food I've eaten in Starwood hotels in much larger cities, there is not comparison that this is some of the best. I've had numerous meals (breakfast and dinner) and am always pleased with the food. Breakfast comes out quick in the morning (or you could do the buffett) and they do a great job. Dinner has been excellent as well... I had seared tuna recently, and it was perfectly seared, but I could have done without the buerre blanc. I ordered it with grilled asparagus and it was a nice healthy dinner that was cooked extremely well. I've also had the pizza , which is a better than average thin crust that I'd prefer to lots of the other pizza I order. read more

It's fine. It's not spectacular or even exceptional. It's a hotel with fairly decent food. I can tell you that I was a guest and I was the ONLY person in the restaurant for at least 30 minutes. Now, the singer in the lounge was excellent - and I truly enjoyed sitting there listening to him and enjoying an A-OK meal - but it's far from a "hot spot". The mustard crusted salmon was good, the sauteed spinach was WAY too buttery for my liking but the wine recommendations were very good. If I wasn't so tired, I'd have headed out of the hotel but it was, exactly as I mentioned earlier, "fine". If you're looking for a spectacular meal on your anniversary, head to the hill or plain elsewhere. read more

Absolutely horrible. First the menu is so overpriced. Whatever we're on vacation we'll spend for good food/drinks. Got tomato basil soup it was fair. Then got Nashville hot chicken to share sooo gross. It was reheated fried chicken (the chewy texture) with blackened seasoning (that was too salty and hot (and I like it spicy)) on top. It was a Clint Eastwood night... "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly..." First, just to set the stage: We went to Clark Street Grill a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. The vibe was fun, the food was great, and the wait-staff was excellent. We went back tonight on a TravelZoo coupon. Typically when we use these sorts of deals we see it as an opportunity to spend even more than we usually do on good food and drink... often the amount spent on the coupon just covers the gratuity. Tonight was a mixed bag, mostly disappointing. The good: The vodka martinis were good... expensive for St. Louis at $11.75 each, but it was Ketel One, so, "ok." The French onion soup was decent, and at $6 a good value. My wife's fillet was good... tender, had that funky taste of dry aged beef, although it could also have been "quick aged" with fish sauce... it was that sort of taste. No complaints either way... nice sear, would get the steak again. The bad: The Parmesan and pea risotto wasn't... It was basically just boiled rice with some dairy tossed in, and some mostly crenated peas. No seasoning, no flavor... Blah! My wife's garlic mashed potatoes weren't... basically no garlic... and no seasoning. Blah! The ugly: My duck... or as my wife opined, "The Ugly Duckling." Not only was there no taste of Garum Masala, but it was cooked medium well to well. About a minute after the hostess took our order I said to my wife, "Hey, they didn't ask me how I wanted my duck!!" But then I figured that the default position for duck breast is mid-rare, so I didn't fret... I should have. It was cooked through, gray, pretty dry... the very center of the middle had just a centimeter of slight pink. (The weird thing is that since duck breast is served sliced, you'd think the chef could see that it was really overdone and wouldn't send it out.) The waiter asked how I liked it, and I told him it was over-cooked. He looked at it and agreed... said he'd pass the comment along to the chef. Later he returned, saw that there were several pieces left, asked if I wanted a box. I said, "No, I thought I'd save a few pieces for you to show the chef." Waited quite a while, then he came back. "The chef agrees that it was overcooked and would like to offer you a complimentary dessert." "That's very kind," I replied... "We'll take it to go." Then we waited... And the hostess came over and said, "So you didn't like the duck?" "No, it was cooked completely through and gray." "Can I offer you a complementary dessert?" "Our server already did so... thanks!" Then we waited some more... with only four tables filled in the entire dining room. (We're talking a fudge brownie here, not exactly something requiring a lot of prep to stick in a to-go box.) Finally we just left without the brownie. One more thing: I asked for a glass of the house Pinot Noir with my duck. Later my wife asked for a glass of house Cab with her steak... At that point the server informed us that they didn't really have a "house Cab," but that they had a nice Cab by the glass... He asked if we wanted the six or the nine ounce pour. We went for the nine, lushes that we are. My "house" Pinot was $21.50, and my wife's "nice Cab" was $16.50. Admittedly, this was for nine ounces, but to add insult to injury both of us felt that the wines were mediocre... Not bad, mind you, just not much different than you might get at a chain restaurant. If the purpose of offering a TravelZoo coupon is to bring in folks who might otherwise not come, and entice them to return full-fare, I'm afraid the Clark Street Grill missed the mark tonight... We won't be back, with or without a coupon. read more

What a dump. Wife didnt feel very good so we stayed in for a meal. What was I thinking. WE ordered a couple drinks from the gnat infested bar and ordered an app and a "wood fired pizza". The app was a ravioli made in local, not to bad for reheated frozen! Then the pizza, well its basically a frozen pizza reheated with a couple slices of toamto and some fresh cheese. Awful, the worst. This is a hidden treasure. Staff service is hard to beat. Foods are delicious and flavorful. This place is a real sleeper. I ate three meals during "restaurant week". Breakfast was an omelet, potatoes and toast - more food than I could eat. Omelet was light and fluffy and beautifully done, one of the best omelets I have ever had. I had two dinners. Appetizer of ravioli and lobster sauce was delicious - I had it again the next meal. Chicken penni was more than I could eat, but I did anyway it was so good. Chocolate cake was to die for. Next meal was lamb which was done perfectly. Menu is limited but what they do they do well. Prices are very reasonable. This really is a place worth going and is, in my opinion, seriously underrated. read more

We planned a large group event at Clark street grille and it was amazing. It was our third annual "Let's do Lunch" event and it was the best one yet. The chef worked with me to create our own menu and even included our logo on it. The tables were set and ready for us to arrive. Our delicious food arrived quickly and was immediately followed by out checks. Given our short time limit, this event went without a hitch. The cake we ordered was beautiful and delicious! The service was good...nothing first rate, but completely acceptable. The lighting was too bright, but the temperature was nice. The food though...yikes! If this were my restaurant, I would be embarrassed by the food. The presentation lacked inspiration. The flavors were very simple and one dimensional. Most people can do better cooking at home. The desserts were very good. Clark Street Grill is the kind of place one should visit out of convenience, but never for an exceptional culinary experience.
