This was my first trip to White Castle. I knew them only from the movies and the frozen varieties sold across the country. I truly hope this White Castle location is not an accurate representation of the chain. This place was so dirty. I went at 2:30 on a Thursday, and I was the only customer there. To their credit, they took my order quickly. When I asked the counter-guy if the burger had ketchup, I got a barely audible non-word. I had to ask again. The meal came quickly, and I was glad it was on a tray, as every table was dirty. ALL of them. The floor had trash and spilled food/drink everywhere. I found the 'cleanest' looking table, and took a seat. The tile wall beside the table was spotted with dried condiments and grease. My drink of choice was out of syrup on the soda machine, as was my second choice. When it came time to leave, I took my tray to the trash can to dump my empty containers. There were at least 8-10 trays on each trash can. Some of my favorite eateries are hole-in-the-wall joints. But I expect a chain restaurant covered in tile, to be cleaner. I expected at least one table to be clean. I counted at least six employees on shift at the time. Management or at least a shift-leader needs to make a regular walk through the dining room and restrooms. It was my first time in Michicant. I had not even heard about this place until my tour guide mentioned that they had made a movie based on this hot spot. So I had to try it. One of the grossest fast food restaurants I have ever been in. The tables looked as if they hadn't been cleaned once in the past week. The trash was overflowing and the drink counter had trash and stains all over it. The service was slow and the workers were disrespectful and didn't care about the order. The food was sub par due to the bread being soggy from the grease and the insane amount of onions they threw on it. The onions and pickles weren't even on the sliders, they were just in the sleeve and spilled out when I took the slider out. All in all, it was a bad experience. read more

This is the perfect spot for a quick bite after watching a game at the Big House. Where else can you dine in for two for only $6? The location itself was clean; however, service was a tad on the slow side of things. The people frequenting this area are sketchy, but very friendly. They can't even get original menu item orders right. Their dumb cooks will send whatever they want to send, right or not. Heaven help you if order for delivery..... GRUBHUB.....because you're injured and had to work...the order gets double screwed because they have a dumbs**t rule about reassigning drivers to fix the mess. Just don't bother! You won't get any "bad" food at this location. A lot of times I open the bag and the "chef" was a bit sloppy in the assembly but the food is always tasty. Try the A1 burgers/cheeseburgers (not on the menu but they'll make them). The reason I go with a 3 instead of a 5 is because they're often slow in service, goof the order or get a little rude... Once at (at 3am) I got a Crave Case with a friend. We realized as we left that we didn't order water to drink so we went back through (only customers at the restaurant the entire time this is going on). We explain to the woman we just came through and just wanted a couple waters. Her reply? "You gotta be shittin' me!!!" Hilarious? Yes. Ridiculous? Yes. Quintessential 'White Castle Service'? "We gotta go to White Castle." And so I did! At the crossroads of Packard and Carpenter road in Ypsilanti, MI, there stands a small, white, brick, castle shaped building. Founded in 1921, White Castle is home to the all original, soft and tasty, White Castle burger. White Castle was the first fast food hamburger chain as well as the first fast food chain to sell over 1 billion burgers. Considering how successful of a fast food restaurant White Castle is, you may be surprised how frequently people leave the restaurant because of their "fast" service. This is because the service at this Ypsi White Castle is anything but fast. Whether going through the drive-thru or walking into the restaurant, speed does not seem to be a concern of the staff there. As I went through the drive-thru, the employees made me wait 5 minutes before allowing me to proceed with my order. As I waited, cars behind me drove away because of how long they were taking. Once I was allowed to proceed with my order, a lady with a weird southern-like accent attempted to communicate with me through her slurred speech. I placed my order: 4 original sliders, fries and a drink. As I pulled up to the window, I waited another 5 minutes for them to hand me my food. Going inside is even worse. As I walked into the restaurant, I stood in line behind 3 people. As I waited, two people left waiting for the employees to take the first guy's order. Once I finally go to the front, it had already been 10 minutes. I ordered the same thing I got before, but with cheese. One of the employees was wearing her cap pointing straight toward the ceiling. I sat down in one of the corners of the restaurant. The restaurant was lit bright, but not too bright or too dim, just neutral. It was pretty quiet and had a good temperature. The furniture was in relatively good shape... except for the bottoms of some things. The bottoms of the chairs and tables were either rusted or stained black. Some of the legs of the chairs looked very bad. The walls are decorated with old black and white photos of the original restaurant and company. After waiting 20 minutes, I finally got my simple order of 4 sliders, fried and a drink... except I didn't get a drink. After asking a few times, they gave me a cup. Waiting for the employees of White Castle is like old people making love--boring, disgusting, and very, very slow. I sat back down to eat my meal. The original 2 inch by 2 inch burger has two soft buns with a square all beef patty on the inside with pickles and onions. This slider can be served with catsup, mustard, and/or cheese. The combination of these ingredients combine to make a soft yet delicious slider with a little sweet and salty taste. They smell unlike most burgers with an onion like smell. This slider comes with a small fry. The fries are soft, yet crunchy, and wavy with a pinch of salt, but are a little dry. The meal also comes with a small drink. There are also other meals, such as the double. They are like the original, however they have cheese and have 3 buns and 2 all beef patties. They have the same pickles and onions and come with fried and a drink. You can also get ones with jalapeños or chicken sliders--same size, 2 inch by 2 inch, but with chicken. There are 2 all white meat lightly breaded fried rings of chicken put together with cheese between two buns. This is served with the same amount of fries and a small drink. Having a relatively nice eating area and some amazing sliders makes the wait almost worth it. They are also pretty cheap, with most of their meals within the 5-10 dollar range, unless you want the suitcase--a huge order of 30 sliders of your choice (I can only imagine how long that would take considering they made my order at the rate of 1 burger every 5 minutes.) You can also buy single sliders. Whether you're wanting something to eat for lunch, trying to get a late night snack, or craving those, "tender little White Castle burgers with those little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in your mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one" after watching Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, White Castle is the place to go... just not this one. read more

The food itself was fairly good, but the customer service was poor. We placed a relatively simple order and then watched as four or five other orders (mainly drive thru) were filled before we got our food. When they finally handed us our bag, half of our order was missing, so we had to go back to the counter to get it. The cashier must have realized the mistake because he told a coworker to get the missing food before I could even say anything to him. read more

I meant to only put half a star. This place is absolutely ridiculous. We got there and saw a line, so we expected a wait. We waited for over 10 minutes until we even came close to the menu. We said "Could we have a sack of ten cheesburgers, small pepsi, 1 chicken slider, and a choclate shake. After repeating this several times, he finally placed our order. Then we got up the 1st window, he said "Choclate shake? ", we said "Yup" (Assuming he just named one thing on the order). He gaves us our chocolate shake. We pulled up to the second window, he said "Do you kneed something?", we said "Yeah, our order? " , he said "What order? ". So we had to reorder and everything. Instead of a pepsi we got Dr. pepper, the shake was more like a brick, and the sliders were awfull. Earlier this year I moved from New York where the castle was EVERYWHERE to California where many people don't know what white castle is. I'm in Ann Arbor for the week on a business trip and figured I could grab a slider for old times sake. HUGGGEEEE MISTAKE!!! I walked in and there were 4 employees and the drive thru line was almost to the street but nobody inside. At the front of the line, I waited about 10 mins to order. Meanwhile the kid behind the counter btw come to find out was the manager was just pacing back and forth and just looking in my face. Meanwhile the girl at the drive thru window is arguing with the drive thru customers one after the other. 10 mins go by then I finally order then wait another 15 mins. Somehow I got my food before people that were already in there. I feel for them. But I drive back to my hotel 6mins away not only is my food cold but.... NO KETHCUP ON NOTHING!!! None in the bag. THAT STORE NEEDS TO CLOSE FOR A DAY AND DO A CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING COURSE OR JUST START FIRING!!! read more

If I could give negative stars I would. My husband and I have been to this store a few times each hoping it would be better and we just picked a bad time. The store was just dirty. The staff was not welcoming or friendly. The floors looked like they had not been mopped in days. Pop machine not working but had dried sticky pop splash all down the front and the floor in front of machine. Condiments packets were scarce and what was there was sticky and dirty feeling. As we waited for our food the more we looked around the more disgusted we were. Food droppings on the floor behind the counter in the cook area and in the dining area, tables not wiped and we also noticed dried food on the wall next to us. When we left the store I called the number on the receipt and left a complaint. I received a call a few days later and the women who called me back said she was looking at a video and said she did not see any of what I was complaining about. Unbelievable. I did not want any free food it wasn't about that...If it were my store I would have wanted to know. She basically called me a liar. I told her that obviously her perception of clean was completely different than mine. I will never go back to that store. Currently in the drive-thru where it took me 15 minutes JUST to place an order. 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge me at the speaker and now probably another 15 to even pay for my food. I don't know why I still frequent this place, maybe because it's the only White Castle in town. You figure after every complaint this place gets, they'd change something. Food is supposed to be the way you ordered it and they accomplish that every time. The downfall is they take forever! They are very slow workers! I waited 15 minutes in the drive thru after I placed my order then I finally decided to drive off because I was going to be late for work. It wasn't " Fast Food " My order was 4 burgers, 3 piece cheese stick and a drink. It's convenient because it's .5 miles away from my job; next time I'll have to make sure I give myself 30 minutes to place my order and receive my food. Also returned the same day and decided to go in and order my food because the line was the same as before work. I then placed my order, got my 2 drinks and my food wasn't ready yet. Stay far, far away. Have gone here multiple times simply because they are among the few fast food chains that offer a veggie burger. Every time I order two and wait in the drive thru for at least 15 minutes, usually more. The staff usually mess it up and don't put any toppings or the wrong ones or it's missing some or otherwise get it wrong. Multiple times. Tonight, they crossed my line. Same order of two veggie burgers. This time, however, they were not veggie burgers at all but regular meat patties. I made the mistake of not looking while there so I found this out three miles away. Called them to get my money back and was given a lot of resistance. Went there to do so and was jerked around and after finally getting it was offered no apology or anything. Not even a simple "that's our bad." The kids that work there usually appear very high on something or another and this time it affected customer service in a major way.
