Almost right outside of the park is a great place to stop for lunch (or dinner). We had lunch outside on the patio and it was very good. From the appetizer selections we picked the Hand Made Goat Cheese Chili Relleno and it was not only large but delicious. The Pineapple Pulled Pork with seasoned French fries was again large and very good. The surroundings are the beautiful mountains and the road. Not a romantic destination but a great place to try. Before tip, with a beer and an iced tea the bill came to around $40. read more

This restaurant is phenomenal. It's very simple and I appreciate it. I love that the food is not oily and doesn't make you feel heavy or sick after you're done eating. The portions sizes are large too. I got the mahi mahi tacos one day and the shrimp tacos the next day, both fire style. The spice was nice and both fish tasted fresh and were cooked extremely well. My girlfriend got the spaghetti squash enchiladas and those were absolutely amazing. The rice and beans were very simple but I loved it. Such a disappointment after a long day of hiking. First off, they don't answer the phone so you cannot call in a to go order. I got the stuffed avocado salad and added carne asada. Really great food! I absolutely loved my taco salad--I added shrimp, was perfectly cooked and seasoned. This is a gigantic salad, and it is filling enough even after a long day of hiking. We had been staying in town for a few days and were really craving some pizza. Too bad for us, most places were closed for the season in mid December. We saw that Whiptail had a BBQ chicken and bacon pizza on the menu so we ended up there. We knew it wasn't a traditional pizza, but a quesadilla pizza sounded good too! Lemme tell you, it really hit the spot. Tons of cheesey goodness and big enough to share (between two people). We also got the goat cheese chile relleno and made it a meal with rice and beans. It was ok, though there was only one pepper and the rice was on the smaller side (about half a cup) so the dish was not filling. No regrets. Ate at this place about 6 years ago but couldn't remember how the food tasted. Ordered the goat cheese Chile relleno. I usually do not eat cheese except for goat cheese. I gave in and ordered this although it also has jack cheese in it. It did not disappoint. Chips and salsa were yummy but you must pay for them. Portions are large so unless you went hiking all day and plan to hike the next day be careful not to order too much food. We were excited that they had beer that was over 5% and this double IPA was juicy, well balanced and so smooth. For a Friday night it was not too busy. We got to the restaurant around 7 pm and we had to wait for about 20 minutes for our table. There are misters an the patio which helped with the heat. Once we ordered the food came out super fast. They have a kids menu but it consist of normal kids food items and my kids like a lot of flavor and are pescatarian with no dairy. We are on vacation so we let them splurge and each ordered what they wanted off the adult menu. They loved the food but it was a little too much for them. read more

Service was beyond all expectations! We arrived early and the hostess told us what time they were opening and added that our dog was welcomed on the patio. She said they had dog treats and water, and made us feel like they really genuinely wanted our patronage. The guac was tasty. They have indoor and outdoor seating. When we left our plates still hadn't been cleared. I had to ask for water refills. They have four local beers on draft. Okay, so after being in Moab for two weeks and finding a ton of great food, I had high hopes for Springdale. But, unfortunately, this town has been a complete disappointment on the food front. Similar to Moab, this town has a captive audience of tourists doing outdoorsy things, but the difference is the food in Moab is quality enough to love some of their restaurants and return a few times. I'm still looking for a place I would return to here in Springdale. We decided to eat at Whiptail because it is right next to the RV resort we were in. My first complaint is that this place doesn't allow dogs on their huge outdoor patio. WTF. This has been my continued problem with Utah in general, this place is the LEAST dog friendly state ever. It makes it so I don't want to come here (glad we already did all 5 National Parks on this trip and don't need to return). Next, the food is just okay. While some of the items on the menu look like Mexican food, I would consider this "southwest" fare, which is like American food with a slight southwest influence. I was excited to see spaghetti squash enchiladas on the menu, but they were just okay. I think they should consider sweet potato or a different squash. Spaghetti squash is stringy and the texture was not my favorite. The rice was what I call "gringo" rice. It's like me trying to make Mexican rice and home and just making a bland flavorless dish because I have no idea how to make real Mexican rice. The one shining star was the service. The guy who waited our table was fantastic. He was communicative, quick and energetic. He seems passionate about the food they serve and was just happy. read more

The atmosphere is cool if you're there when it's light out and can see the exterior so good during the day! The interior is cold and loud, or fun if you like a sort of metallic, garage themed Mexican restaurant. The service was problematic, At first we thought our waitress was fun, and really friendly. By the end of our meal, when she had mostly forgotten about us and our order a few times, she was slurring her words. It's a fun place, but not worth the price. Dishonest establishment. Don't go there. First of all, the food was super expensive and not good at all. Second of all, we called in a takeout and was very explicit with one of the orders. We asked for no jalapeno peppers on the chicken sandwich because I am allergic. The sandwich that we brought home was loaded with jalapenos. I was not able to eat it at all. And my family were unable to change with me because they don't eat spicy foods. So I spent $17 on a meal I couldn't eat. Because we were traveling, we were unable to call them until the day after. They offered to make me a new sandwich, but as we are already two and a half hours away, they just shrugged and said oh well too bad. Not the right way to do business. read more

We chose the Whiptail Grill for dinner our first night in Zion. The Yelp reviews looked good, and it was right across the street from where we were staying, so it was a natural choice. What can you expect? It's a casual, funky place, so you can come as you are. As of this writing both indoor and outdoor seating are offered. We chose inside seating. It was fine, but the indoor space would benefit from a little jazzing up. The food isn't cheap if you get my drift. Expect a wait to be seated. It's a popular place with reduced capacity due to the COVIDs. We waited about 40 minutes to be seated. On another evening, the hostess said the wait would be about an hour, so we chose to eat at a different place. The food was quite good. We chose a couple of the gourmet burgers served with fries. In retrospect, and this isn't taking anything away from the burgers, we might have been better off ordering some of the gourmet Mexican food on the menu. Alcohol wise it's beer and wine only. If you like margaritas with your Mexican food, know that going in. There is a good selection of craft beers along with a few of the usual non craft beers.
