I'm not from New York and I was there for an event so I really went out of my to try this place. The pizza itself was good, out of 10 I would say it's sitting at high 7s low 8s. At this point you may be wondering "Andy if it's good pizza why the one star review?" The reason for the one star review was shitty service. From the moment I sat down until the moment I left I felt like I was being rushed out the door and I also felt this sarcastic off putting tone coming from the waiter. I even asked my friend hey did you feel rushed or a general rudeness coming from the waiter and she responded yes. First it started off me ordering my drink he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. I repeated my self twice and he just kind of gave me a look and I had to point it out in the menu that I wanted lime soda. Fine maybe he didn't hear me that's okay. Our drinks come out we are chatting enjoy each others company just hanging out. Our pizza comes out we start to eat it and probably ate for about 10-15 minutes before I believe it was the bus boy comes to us and ask if we want to box the pizza and I'm sure uhh sure why not. He already had a box in hand, takes the pizza throws in there starts to removal everything while we are sitting talking to each other. After this the waiter comes next to me and kneels down to talk to me like I'm a child and ask if I want anything else and I said no I think we are good immediately he pulls out the check from his back pocket and puts it on the table. At this point I am frustrated and feel like I'm being rushed and I'm on the receiving end of this persons attitude. I start to put my sweater on and the waiter comes to the table and grabs the check ( its been probably two minutes since he dropped it off). I told him it wasn't ready yet and grabbed some cash from my pocket and put it down. The whole time I felt like I was being rushed while others were able to come and enjoy their experience for some reason I was rushed out the door. It felt like once I got the check he was watching me the whole time for whatever reason, from the time that I got in to the time I left it was probably 30 mins in total. Extremely fast for a meal where you sit down to eat and drink. Overall decent pizza but horrible just disgusting service. I don't want to assume why I was treated different than others but I can assure you I was and it didn't feel good and I definitely won't be returning here again. read more

Came here for the 1st time and fell in love. Pizzas are so good and unique options. The garlic sriracha they have is perfect for the pizza. Teddy made me the best old fashioned I've ever had with mole bitters. No matter how busy it was whenever I've visited, Teddy stays on top of making drinks as well as goos conversation. I really liked Wheated. Christine is super nice and a great bartender. She crafted some delicious cocktails for us at the bar with a smile. Salads were fresh and crisp, I was worried that the brussel sprouts might have come out a bit sweet b/c of the cranberries but they were really well offset by the cheese and lemon dressing. I personally would like a bit more lemon but was a good balance. Can't recall the name but we liked the pizza, crust was perfection, just felt like we didn't order well on the toppings (our bad, not wheated). Can't really go wrong when they have that thai chili and hot honey to make everything super yummy. Finally, we added on a ceasar salad, i liked, wife felt the dressy had too much anchovy. Very nice spot, run by nice people. The pizza: eh. I've come here twice in the past month, and each time got served a bone dry pizza. On the first visit I pointed this out to the waiter and he immediately agreed that it was not up to standards and that we wouldn't be charged for it. So I wrote it off as an aberration. On the second visit, it was clear that this was just how pizza is made here. The photos on Yelp from several years ago do not represent what the pizza is now. The outer crust -- which takes up a huge part of the pizza, easily 2 inches wide -- has no oil in or on it at all, and has the texture of cardboard. While the sauce and cheeses are clearly of high quality, there is almost none of either, and no oil again either -- despite the description (in this case, for the Bensonhurst), which emphasizes olive oil. Here is my recommendation to the chef and owners: significantly less outer crust around the pizza, more sauce in particular, and use some damned oil! Much as I would like to recommend this place (again, nice spot, nice people), it is after all a pizza place and the pizza is just barely mediocre. So I can't recommend, sadly. read more

Full disclosure: I am a friend of the owners and backed them on Kickstarter after Jerk Storm Sandy destroyed their oven shortly before their planned opening. I've been waiting for this place to open since I first met David and Kim and decided to wait a month or two before my first official visit. That visit happened yesterday and I was absolutely thrilled at what they put together! First of all, the place is beautiful. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood, which already boasts some of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. The pizza is delicious. They make their dough by hand and use 100% natural fermentation, so no store bought yeast. The crust has a great texture -- somewhere between snappy and tender -- and a depth of flavor that far surpasses corner slice shops. We had six different pizzas (shared between seven of us) and it was a perfect order. I thought the pies with sauce were more tender than those without, so I'd go with something saucy. I regret not getting the pie with pistachio and mortadella, but I'll just have it next time. Beyond the pizza, this is a really cool place for a drink. They do a hand-mixed white cola that tastes not of chemicals and caramel syrup, but of citrus and herbs. It's really unique and super tasty. They're also really into bourbon, so check out the cocktail list. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

The food and drinks are delicious. The people who serve and work here are awesome. Atmosphere is cool. The hours of the business are consistently inaccurate according to their site and also on other sites which list this restaurant. After three recent failed attempts at dining-in, and ordering out from Wheated (including a particularly long trip over there tonight where I had every reason to be confident of dining-in - ultimately this became another disappointing attempt), I will say there is some negligence in management and care here. This place is so good, but I highly recommend calling in advance of a visit to see if you may be able to have access to the restaurant. Also - I was told that the reason for the kitchen closing substantially early on tonight's visit (the reason I was turned away) was because the restaurant had run out of food. Wheated has been open and running for years - that error in preparation seems bizarre. read more

We were really excited to finally try this place but it wasn't a good experience. We waited about 15 minutes for a table and got our order in immediately (we'd already order a drink from the bar). It took nearly an hour for the two pizzas to arrive. Pretty sure that our order wasn't put in until I side-eyed the waiter with a where's-our-salad look about 40 minutes after ordering. The salad miraculously showed up moments later. It was a busy evening but the couple right next to us (seated at the same time) received everything way ahead of us. What can you do. We joked that they should change the name to Waited. The food was so-so. The shaved brussels sprouts salad was very dry and felt insubstantial. I get that it's meant to be light but even so the salad wasn't very tasty or satisfying. I wouldn't call the pizza undercooked but I prefer my pizza to be a bit crispier and for the cheese to cook through. Both pies (East Williamsburg and the Bensonhurst) were soft and came across as almost gummy. The flavors were ok but didn't pack enough punch. I'll give em credit for providing hot honey and siracha... they came in handy. The bar seems like a good vibe and I can see why people might like the joint. Vinegar Hill pizza -10/10 -perfect combination of flavors, thin crust, high quality ingredients. I was a big fan of the honey that they give you to drizzle on the pizza. The size is good too; it's big enough to share if you're ordering a side and drinks but also small enough to enjoy on your own. Bee Stinger Cocktail -9/10 -strong whisky, very spicy but very drinkable Garlic Jalapenos -8/10 - they were good but too spicy for me, maybe because I got a spicy cocktail, but my husband loved them and ate them all Service -8/10 - we were seated quickly when we came in on a Saturday night ( 5 minute wait). I like this place for fancy pizza night but do wish they were open for lunch, as I'm just a hop and skip away. Pizzas are made in their brick oven and have a nice crust that's more old world style than NYC corner slice. Regardless of which pie you get, you'll have fresh ingredients. Personally, I'm a fan of the Bay Ridge. Atmosphere is lovely for a date night or a small group. Service is a little slow so don't head here if famished. Pro tip: Forget about drizzling the hot honey over your pizza. I mistakenly poured a bit too much honey, which ended up on my plate, then decided to run the underside of my pizza against the honey. Just WOW. It takes it to a whole new level. So pour some honey on your plate, run your pizza crust through it and take a bite. It's a whole different world for your taste buds. read more

Only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because you can't even tell it's a restaurant. The restaurant sign outside s super small and if you don't slow down while driving you'll miss it! However, with the crowd always waiting to be seated you know the food here is good. My favorite pies on the menu are the Park Slope and Gravesend! This is my best friends favorite brick oven pizza place to go to and they are open late night! Definitely recommend trying it out but be cautious of the crowd during the weekends! This has to be New York's most underrated & unkown Pizza spot. Ive heard no mentions of it from magazines or online list. Even talking to passionate pizza friends, not one, visited or knew where Wheated was. Its east of Prospect Park. I took the G train from Queens and had to walk 10 minutes after gettint out of the subway. The restaurant is located on Church Av. A busy block with a couple restaurants and bars. We arrived when it opened at 6p and a half hour into service they were almost at capacity (I guess locals keep it their secret). We sat down and ordered 2 cocktails. It was clear they were serious about their drinks. For food we ordered the stuffed Eggplant, a string bean salad, a white pie with mushroom and the meatball calzone. A lot of food for two people but we felt the need to try everything. Each dish that came out exceeded expectations. Their red sauce in particular was amazing. Its sweet and tangy and has all the right ingredients that make a sauce perfect. The crust of the pizza was cooked to the perfect temp, cripsy bottom but airy on top. The calzone rocked and came with a side of red sauce similar to Lucali's. We took some food home with us and it tasted just as good the next day heated up. I will be back for more drinks and pizza and will spread the word of this mostly unknown treasure. read more

My friend and I were so excited to try this place. We walked in and the pizza looked delicious. However, the service was so unbearably slow it ruined our experience. They had tables open, but it took them about 10 minutes to seat us. Then we waited more than 20 minutes to get water. It took over an hour to finally get our pizzas after we ordered them. The staff was nice when they did provide service, but they were generally completely inattentive. Not sure if they forgot about us or what. Me and my bf have been here a couple of times and the food is always good although we did have to send one pizza back because something was missing​ but it happens, I wouldn't​t hold it against them. The service was a little weird though... it's probably because the space is a little narrow and the servers just kind of have to stand there until there's​ something to do...or she was fishing for a good tip....or maybe she thought my bf was cute, but our server seemed to be hovering around us, standing​ right by our table, and checking on us too frequently, it was almost hard to hold a conversation with each other without being interrupted like every 10 minutes smh. How I've never written this review before, I don't know. We're lucky to have Wheated as our relatively local purveyor of fine pies! They crush it. Yeah it's busy and it deserves to be. As a customer, a fan, and a business owner it makes me so happy to see them busy all the time. The Caesar salad is bomb! Seriously one of the best around. All the apps, actually. The meatballs oh the meatballs. The octopus is so damn tender. Tonight I tried the bacon appetizer for the first time. Holy hell its great! My favorite pie is the Vinegar Hill. Gorgonzola, aged mozz, thinly sliced potatoes and grape must syrup. Straight up this pie is my #1 favorite pizza in all five boroughs. I'm so sad when I take the last bite of the last slice. So sad it's over. It's that great. The NY Slice style pie is killer too. Neapolitan meets NY on that one seals the deal. Tonight we had the clam pie. It was great! Big juicy cherrystones on there. But, I found the pizza to be mediocre at best. Both times the crust was flat and burnt, and the pizza lacked flavor. Tucked away in Flatbush between a bunch of auto repair shops and the world's flashiest car wash is Wheated. I was skeptical at first because I've become kind of a wood-fired oven pizza snob but this quirky spot really won my heart and stomach (...and wallet). The pizzas are all named after neighborhoods in Brooklyn and run between $10-$16. They are also nicely labeled with whether they are (v) - vegetarian or (w) - white. You would think this would make choosing your pizza easier but with so many delicious sounding pies to choose from, knowing really is only half the battle. We got two pies on our first visit: Sunset Park ($15) and the Red Hook ($15). The Sunset Park was basically a sophisticated pepperoni pizza with spicy sopressata - a nice classic red pie. The Red Hook was definitely our "adventure" pizza - a white pie with mortadella, potatoes, and pistachios. I thought it sounded pretty crazy but the combination really works! To wash down the pizzas, they have a very good bar with a 9:00pm happy hour every day: $2 off all menu cocktails $5 beers, $7 with a shot $1 off all wines by the glass I hope to go back soon! read more

I can't believe I've lived literally 3 blocks away from Wheated for years and just started ordering it in the last couple months. It's absolutely amazing. Every pizza we've had from here has been unbelievably delicious. Our favorite is the Coney Island, which is a great take on a Hawaiian pizza. The giant slices of chorizo they use is incredible with fresh pieces of pineapple. I know it's sacrilegious to some people, but damn, it's amazing. Also, DO NOT sleep on their garlic knots. Holy cow, they are so fresh and tender with tons of fresh garlic and parmesan. I honestly believe if they would do a garlic knots pizza, that would bring peace on Earth. read more

I really love Wheated. It's the closest place to my house that serves a great cocktail, has a late starting happy hour, and really good pizza. So why the poor review? I brought two of my friends here for the first time last night. The restaurant was surprisingly empty. In the past, Friday and Saturday nights usually have a long line of people waiting for a table but last night, we were seated quickly at 7:30. But then we waited over an hour to be served our pizza choices (we got the Brussels sprout salad rather quickly) while we watched 20-30 pizzas march out the door for pickups. One of my friends started itching to leave after 40 minutes but didn't want to make me look bad as I'm a regular. And there was four other tables seated after us in the same predicament. There is something fundamentally wrong with this formula where they don't deliver and hold their pickups in higher esteem to the seated customers in the restaurant. I will be back for an after 9 pm weekday visit but I expect they will never be considered again for a prime time weekend choice. read more

I like Wheated, but it is by no means a great place. Prospect Park South is a neighborhood that is under rapid fire change, and Wheated is one of the few decent options in the nabe. If you go, arrive early or expect to wait. The place is small, and can fill up very quickly. The Pizza's are good, but not nearly as good as other brick oven establishments. I like the East Williamsburg pizza the best. It is a white pizza with wild mushrooms and truffle oil. Wheated has an extensive list of Bourbon's, Rye's and single malt Scotch's. I've had Grimaldi's, Paulie Gees, Di Fara, and so on and this place definitely falls into top three. That's just after trying two of their sourdough pizzas creatively named after Brooklyn neighborhoods. I say this with great pride in the fact that its a local neighborhood gem. Wheated is discretely placed in the corner of Coney Island and Church with a plain white sign and only the bar is visible from the outside. I had no idea this place sold pizza until a friend told me! We had the Vinigar Hill and the Borough Park. At first sight, it's literally a Naan Roti with vegetables on top, like a Indian Pizza! (Why coundn't I think of that lol) But this taste amazing. It's definitely in a higher echelon. They give you thai chili powder and honey drizzle as condiments which was delightfully different and spicy! I cannot say enough good things about this place. Overall, the ingredients are fresh, the pizza is appetizing, the service is appreciable, and it's so close to home! My only pet peeve with this place is that they don't deliver. I really enjoyed my experience at Wheated last night! Casual little pizzeria with over 700 whiskeys to choose from. I appreciated that they had vegan cheese and vegan sausage :) id recommend they switch to Daiya vegan mozzarella because it's a bit more flavorful, but the cheese they used wasn't bad! I'm lucky to get any vegan cheese options at all! Our server was so lovely + brought over a water dropper as well as a ice glass when we asked so we can taste the whiskey all 3 ways - neat, rocks and with a splash of water. My vegan BFF and I visited Wheated on a Saturday night. It's in her neighborhood and she was excited about a vegan pizza option. (Don't worry - only one of their many pizzas can be veganized! Cheeseheads, calm down!) The host was awesome; we were seated and waited on quickly. As mentioned, my BFF ordered whatever the first pizza on the menu is, sans cheese. I opted for the Bensonhurst. What amused me about their menu was, for the 15-20 pizzas offered, there were only subtle differences between them. For instance, truffle oil; add pancetta; cherry tomato vs. tomato sauce. Although it took a long while to get our pizzas - this might be in part due to the brisk carryout business they seem to be doing - it was worth the wait. The Bensonhurst had a delicious combination of regular (aged?) and fresh mozzarella. Nom. I washed it down with a beer from Blue Point, one of my favorite local breweries. Sadly, I could only finish half my pizza, but I had a delicious dinner at home two days later. All that, and reasonably priced. (Oh: and I guess the reason it's called "Wheated" is the focus on pizza and... was it bourbons behind the bar that were lit?) read more

Welcome to the nabe David!! Top notch. The fit out is terrific, reclaimed wood and what not dominating, and a great looking bar. A delicious cocktail list, bourbon leaning but as balanced as it gets. Eager and friendly staff tending the floor and incredible pizza. The watermelon salad was perfect, cool, crisp melon and cucumber with a nice salty spike from the ricotta salata. Pies we ordered were the Fort Greene with sweet figs and salty gorgonzola, perfectly balanced. The Sunset Park was also killer, as were the cocktails. Great drinks, very nicely balanced cocktails. We had classics, Manhattan's and an Old Fashioned. Proper Old Fashioned, no muddled fruit or soda anywhere. Not sweet at all and garnished with an orange zest. Perfect. As for anyone that feels the need to comment on toddlers/kids, I'll say this. I have a toddler he's 18 months old. I work in a well known Manhattan restaurant. He, and most toddlers, behave better and make far less noise than a lot of patrons I've seen in the city. As for not knowing where said toddlers come from, welcome to the neighborhood Paul. You're clearly not from around here. To everyone else, enjoy. Come along anytime, you won't be sorry. The noise level, even with a few kids is no more than what you'd get in the city on any given evening. If you can deal with that, you'll love it!! Yes! We just bought a place in the area and are totally unfamiliar with places to eat. This is why Yelp is so helpful. Hubs and I had to meet a contractor in the evening at the new place, but needed to grab a bite to eat in the meantime (we still haven't moved in yet). We wanted something casual and not too pricey so we chose Wheated. It's about a 5-minute walk from our place, so happy to say it's close by. It's a hip little spot with a really cool looking bar. They have a ton of whiskeys. The vibe was pretty chill, we got there at around 6:30 on a weeknight and there were tons of tables available. We got two pizzas (both excellent) and each got a cocktail. Speaking of which, they have a great cocktail menu and so many awesome pizza choices. Our pizza was ready quickly and came out hot. Service was pretty good. Notably, they have an early happy hour AND a late night happy hour which starts at 9pm I think. By the time we left, there were many more diners sitting or beginning to order. This place is most definitely a gem. If it was located in say Park Slope or North Brooklyn, there would be at least a 30-minute wait on slow nights. I think Wheated will rise in popularity as Kensington is a rapidly changing neighborhood. read more

For two people, you can get away with splitting a pizza and a salad and that's definitely enough food. The service is also great. We arrived at around 6 to a sparsely seated restaurant and sat at a table at the bar. Ten minutes later someone showed up with menus. After 20 more minutes of waiting, no one had returned to take our order so we got up and left. Too bad, because their pizza and cocktails are good. It used to be one of our favorite neighborhood joints but the service has been deteriorating and this was the last straw. I am unlikely to go back or recommend to others.
