Met some friends for birthday drinks (not my birthday) and really enjoyed myself. The owner was super friendly and had great recommendations. Their beer selection was unique and cool. Had some really interesting stuff. The cocktails were wonderful too. I had couple of different ones and the quality and uniqueness were next level. Definitely recommend this place.

Just had an awesome experience at Travel Bar this evening on our last (and only) night in NYC this weekend. We were pretty impressed by their selection and prices were pretty reasonable. Atmosphere was chill and relaxed. Kind of hipster/trendy but with a splash of that neighborhood dive vibe. Patrons weren't too loud or rowdy and definitely not stuck up or pretentious. BATHROOM WAS CLEAN! Husband had several 1oz pours with amazing recommendations from Bill, our amazing bartender. I had the whiskey sour, which I was supposed to nurse but I definitely was a bad babysitter- so good! Definitely not your typical "I can get this anywhere just-add-whiskey" mix. I must say though that the highlight of the night for me was Bill. He was very friendly and professional. Since we got there around 730pm and it wasn't too crowded, we were able to chat him up. Bill was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to educate me on the different types of whiskey/bourbon and trivia of certain distillers. But as the night passed on, we unfortunately had to share him with the other patrons. However, I noticed that he was really attentive to everyone in the bar and never mad us feel ignored or forgotten. Amazing service! Highly recommend!

5 stars for this awesome bar! We stumbled across this on Yelp (yay) and we're surprised that it wasn't very busy. I ordered my whiskey sour and my husband who loves his bourbon ordered a taster. Throughout our time here, the owner was seated with us and what a great time we had! He was very knowledgeable on all the bourbon / whiskeys they had, and even suggested some for my husband to try. He chatted with us for a while and it was really nice of him. Also prices were VERY reasonable considering it's NY. We can't wait to come back here when we return to NY

Can't beat the selection of Spirits, and decently priced too! Nice Low Key atmosphere, unpretentious staff. The best part is Mike V the owner who makes his rounds connecting with his patrons.. a nice touch, and something that makes this spot so welcoming... Most definitely my new go to whiskey Bourbon spot for me and my friends highly recommended. Keep up the good work Travel Bar!

This a review during the covid-19 pandemic as a heads up. Went here on a Friday night in august 2020 and they are open with outdoor seating. Awesome to have a place to have quality whiskey at a time like this. Also they have very cheap $1 pizza given the current laws about food & liquor during the pandemic so will not break the bank to have required food with your drinks!

This is a gem of a bar. We came at 6 on a Tuesday and enjoyed a quiet, relaxed happy hour with standout whiskey sours. The Europass cocktail is delicious too. They have such a huge collection of spirits, even international ones (hence the "travel" I guess), totally worth checking out.

Not such a great place to drink and chill in. Imagine all the other bars around it would serve $3-6 dollars a beer and their cheapest is $7 Asahi. And people are barely here, you can't use wifi because the bartender said if u use it they have to pay for u using it. It's just not really a good place. I just got invited here. I mean I am generally from Carroll gardens but this just opened and so far -- stay away. Go to Abilene or mini bar instead.

Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey. Sometimes, a man needs his fix! Ever since Char No 4 has shut its doors, I've been looking for a worthy alternative, and Travel Bar definitely fits the bill. Their whole theme is travel (duh). From the luggage-shaped sign out front, to the whiskey flights (groan) that they have available. Sure, it's a little out of the way (right next to Buttermilk Channel), but they advertise over 80 whiskeys! You can go on the low end, or the high end. They have it all (almost). Bartender was a cool guy and recommended the James E. Pepper for $5 a pop. Pretty tasty, especially at that price point. Myself, I went with a sazarac, which was equally as delicious. They also have charcuterie and some small plates here, though we were just killing time before dinner.

Unfortunately this place fell very flat. Leading with what we liked: Their mocktail offerings were good, promising a 0.0% ABV which is hard to come across when mocktails are offered. They serve oysters, which adds to that aphrodisiac experience of the oh so 'wow this is a former brothel!'. The bartenders and servers were fast and very sociable with the more sociable customers. The immediate entrance is very tight, and it was uncomfortable navigating the space. We expected there'd be more seating in the back, which there was, but it was limited and not offered to us until we asked for it. We honestly had no clue where it would be and only asked because of how this place was advertised. While it was comfy once we made our way back there, it was reminiscent of a lounge style bar space that almost any bar could replicate with the right room and budget. We didn't feel as though this hit the spot and were let down by this experience. I'm not sure if I can judge the menu of drinks/ foods as expensive, but we left hungry bc we couldn't justify some of the prices. In addition, I've seen a lot of complaints about the volume of the music: it's definitely loud at the front but a lot lower in that back lounge space. It's as loud as any bar's music level would be, but truth be told we were expecting music that matched the vibe of what was advertised and yes, at a lower volume.

I've been to this cocktail bar regrettably only twice even though I live (or rather lived upcoming…read moresoon) around the corner. It's classy but not too fancy and has enough space but doesn't get too loud. They have a nice happy hour menu from Tuesday-Friday from 5 to 7 as well as all day on Sundays which has very decent prices such as an $8 old fashioned among other things (see the photo.) the bartenders I've had before have been friendly with some good recommendations. Outside of their wide selection of cocktails which run the gamut of liquors, they have a nice wine selection, a handful of craft beers, and a very small food selection. The first time I was here, I had one drink which was the excellent Star of The Ice Snow for $17 with Iwai 45 whiskey, brie-washed Carpano Antica, Fernet Branca, barrel-aged orange bitters, and sassafras bitters. It had a a bit of bitterness, some sweetness, some spice, and some light mint from the fernet and was a pleasant complex drink and was certainly worth it from the price. The second time I was here was just this evening where I had two drinks. I first went with something that I was thinking of getting the first time which is their outstanding Vivian Darkbloom for $15 with Union mezcal, lime, pineapple, charcoal, Velvet Falernum, and lime bitters. The drink has mild citrusy sweetness as well a bit of smoke from the mezcal and is probably my favorite drink I've had here though the other drink I had the first time gives it stiff competition. I asked the bartender what he recommends and after a small discussion, he said either The Bell Witch (which is a gin and chartreuse cocktail with a strong herbal flavor) or what I went with. Said drink was the Under a Cosmic Cloak for $16 with rhubarb infused rum, Trois Rivieres rum, Smith & Cross rum, yerba mate, lime, grapefruit, and whey. The bartender said that it wouldn't be overly sweet as the rum was milk washed and this was indeed the case with just a mild sweetness and some fruitiness. There was a light herbal flavor otherwise presumably from the mate as well as a light citrus note and overall, it was good though definitely the least complex of the drinks I've tried and probably my least favorite but was definitely not a bad drink. The drinks here are reasonably priced for the quality, the bartenders are friendly, and it is classy but not overbearingly so. I can see why it's popular and I wish I stopped in more.
