If you love whiskey, this bar is a must! We stopped by after a late lunch on a Sunday right when it opened at 4pm. It was just us, but made it such a delightful time as we got to chat with the bartender. They have over 400 whiskeys including some you may not often find on the shelf. I ended up having the Peach Old Fashioned ($20), Indian Old Fashioned ($20), and Tiki Old Fashioned ($17) while the fiancé had a Jack Daniel's Single Barrel ($20) and Jack Daniel's Bonded ($9). All the drinks were right up our alley and thoroughly enjoyed. I did like the Peach one the most out of all the Old Fashioned I tried as I like my drinks strong and bold. To finish off, we were both intrigued by the Oban bottle and shared a 2oz glass as well. This was a pricey one, but such a fun time to experience and try. I came here for a post-dinner drink. It's more upscale than a dive bar with a bit of a club house vibe. We sat at the leather bar stools by the front window. Typically, you order drinks at the bar, but it was a bit busy so the bartender was kind enough to take our orders from our seats and brought our drinks directly to us. They have an extensive cocktail menu, including entire sections devoted to Manhattans and Negronis. They also have hot cocktails for winter. I ordered the Travel Toddy. It had a bit of a medicinal taste. It's best to drink while still warm, otherwise it becomes a tepid, watery tea. Still, it was nice to have something warm to sip on. Best whiskey bar in Brooklyn. Likely the best in Brooklyn and Queens. Possibly the best in all of NYC but I haven't been to enough whiskey bars outside of Brooklyn and Queens to make that claim. No clue how a bar with this selection that's been opened for almost a decade has only 55 reviews at the time of this writing. The selection greatly focuses on special editions and hard to find bottles. It's a wonderful collection and the bartender did a fantastic job of helping us navigate it. Met some friends for birthday drinks (not my birthday) and really enjoyed myself. The owner was super friendly and had great recommendations. Their beer selection was unique and cool. Just had an awesome experience at Travel Bar this evening on our last (and only) night in NYC this weekend. We were pretty impressed by their selection and prices were pretty reasonable. Atmosphere was chill and relaxed. Kind of hipster/trendy but with a splash of that neighborhood dive vibe. Patrons weren't too loud or rowdy and definitely not stuck up or pretentious. BATHROOM WAS CLEAN! Husband had several 1oz pours with amazing recommendations from Bill, our amazing bartender. I had the whiskey sour, which I was supposed to nurse but I definitely was a bad babysitter- so good! Definitely not your typical "I can get this anywhere just-add-whiskey" mix. I must say though that the highlight of the night for me was Bill. He was very friendly and professional. Since we got there around 730pm and it wasn't too crowded, we were able to chat him up. Bill was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to educate me on the different types of whiskey/bourbon and trivia of certain distillers. But as the night passed on, we unfortunately had to share him with the other patrons. I have drank (a lot) on 6/7 continents and this is hands down my favorite bar ever. The drinks are incredible (great whiskeys, delicious cocktails, awesome beers on tap), Mike (owner/bartender) is an amazing bartender and overall awesome guy, the ambience is top notch...it's the best version of the neighborhood bar there could be. High quality drinks, none of the pretentious BS or astronomical prices you'll find at other NYC bars. Mike/Travel Bar were so great to us from night 1 there. My wife and I, and many of our friends have had incredible times there. Travel Bar provided the specialty cocktails for our wedding, we've celebrated many birthdays there, entertained out of towners, and stumbled in randomly just to have a great drink. We recently moved out of BK, but we're already planning our next trip back there. Can not recommend Travel Bar highly enough. Not such a great place to drink and chill in. Imagine all the other bars around it would serve $3-6 dollars a beer and their cheapest is $7 Asahi. And people are barely here, you can't use wifi because the bartender said if u use it they have to pay for u using it. It's just not really a good place. I just got invited here. Their whole theme is travel (duh). From the luggage-shaped sign out front, to the whiskey flights (groan) that they have available. Sure, it's a little out of the way (right next to Buttermilk Channel), but they advertise over 80 whiskeys! You can go on the low end, or the high end. They have it all (almost). Bartender was a cool guy and recommended the James E. Pepper for $5 a pop. Pretty tasty, especially at that price point. Myself, I went with a sazarac, which was equally as delicious. Immediately we felt unwelcome. The bartender that worked on 10/15/21 was Rude from the min we arrived and on top of that we served the worst drinks we ever had. When we nicely asked about the ingredients in the drink we were promptly told it's best we leave since we could find better drinks else where and he didn't want make drinks all night to us if we just gonna keep sending them back! Which was he's passive aggressive way of dealing with local customers. There are much better places in the hood that are welcoming, with experience bartenders. The best little whiskey bar in New York is also a great neighborhood bar. Count yourself lucky if you're within walking distance but the G and F are only three or so blocks away if you're not. Mike is a great dude with an incredible knowledge of whiskey and cocktails and a good sense of humor. All of the bartenders knows their whiskey which is good because they have 450 or more to choose from. Amazing. We were going to have brunch next door and the wait was an hour and we stumbled in to Travel Bar and I could not be happier with our discovery! We had bloody Mary's and they were spectacular! It was so delicious, they make their own mix and it was so good. I will dream of these blood Mary's, and would highly suggest ordering one! I LOVE THIS PLACE. Such a great neighborhood bar with pictures all around. I went with some friends after work for a few drinks. We seated ourselves at the bar at first and let Mike, the bartender and owner, suggest some drinks. First, you could tell a LOT of care was put into what selections they have. While they do have their goose and jack and typical alcohols, most of the drinks are made with more small batch varietals. Really solid whiskey, bourbon and rye selection but what made me the happiest was to see El Dorado Rum behind the bar and on the menu. Now that is the rum drinkers rum. I had to start with their Rum based Specialty cocktail. I watched Mike make it and he was using fresh ingredients. Like he was pulling out a juice strainer to put fresh lemon juice in my drink and was taking his time to get it right. That's quality and care where bar tending turns into more of an artform. It's like comparing a cook to a chef...this was precision to ensure that he made the most of each ingrediant. I had a few drinks that night and EVERY single one of them was an amazing treat to the palate. They just started serving food so since I was 2 or 3 drinks in, figured why not try some meats and cheese. We asked them to choose what they think is the most unique selection they have since we weren't picky. There were two things that really stuck out on this, a chorizo pate type thing and the smoked ricotta. SO SO GOOD! The best part of all...there werent any drunk 21 years old hanging around. This was a place for people who want an amazing cocktail but not have to deal with kids. Where you could actually sit and enjoy spending time with your friends out and hear them talking. There was no super loud music playing fist pumping music (I like that scene if I'm at a club) but this is your Cheers like bar but with really high class drinks. Quiet little bar in Carroll Gardens. We came here while waiting for a table at Prime Meats down the street. The bartender was the owner himself and was very nice and welcoming. He gave us drink recommendations and mentioned he had over a hundred whiskeys in stock to try. I opted for a drink with baijiu (an alcohol from China that's said to turn you blind) and barley tea. It was aight. Some of the biggest selling points for me were that it wasn't overly loud even for a Saturday evening. We were able to sit at the bar and have a conversation without having to scream at the top of our lungs. We got drinks immediately, and there was no huss and fuss. I have only been to Travel Bar once (so far!), but it was such a great experience, I cannot stop raving about it. I found it on Yelp, when looking for a place to host a small party for my husband's birthday. He can be particular (hates crowds, super loud music, and poorly-made Manhattans), so I was a bit stressed out. Travel Bar came up and it looked great, so I reached out to the owner to give him a heads up that we would have a group of about 10-12 people coming in. There are many things that are great about this bar, but really, my interaction with Mike is what completely sold me. Not only did he answer me right away, but he was super helpful. He let me know that I could bring a cake and they would cut/serve it. He also gave me an option of letting people open/pay separate checks, which I really appreciated. I have hosted too many birthday parties where I've gotten stuck with most of the bill at the end. Upon arrival, we noticed that a few tables had been set aside for us, which was really nice, and Mike was just as friendly/helpful in person as he was through email. He's very knowledgeable about spirits and even introduced me to my new favorite, Dillon's Rose Gin. Overall, great experience, and I have been raving about it ever since! My boyfriend and I discovered Travel bar the other weekend and had one of the most awesome nights--the owners, Mike and Joe (hey guys!!!) were an absolute delight, giving us the backstory on their travels and how they influenced their bar. Mike made me many a mezcal cocktail and they were all delicious. They have an extensive list of spirits, which even brought a Yelper on a whiskey quest in from Florida (where's your review, Layla!?).
