Shoutout to the Loop 12 Irving Whataburger Team for taking care of us. The menu did get a little bit more expensive, but I guessed it was mainly due to inflation. But also there was an addition: Mexican Chocolate Coffee? Which I never heard of before. For this specific trip, I ordered a Whataburger Burger Combo - with a large drink and fries. To be fair, I forgot how big the Texas sizes were, so I was overwhelmed and wasn't able to finish the whole thing as a whole. However, the sandwich itself was so juicy and tender, and the bun was toasted in a way that was similar to what would be ordered at Cane's with their Texas Toast. Service was great but the food was not really fresh. The only food that was great was the honey butter biscuit, so I would only come back for that. I would rather go to In N Out or another fast food restaurant for a good burger, fries, and wings. Stopped by whataburger while in Texas to see what the hype was all about. First, the service here was great with the staff being friendly and patient (we had a large party with a lot of orders). They got our order correct and they threw in a mix of spicy and regular ketchup. The burger was good (I got the bacon avocado burger) but the fries were a bit cold. As a local Texan, Whataburger is ingrained in my programming, but, over the years, it has been hit or miss depending on the location and time. However, the stars aligned yesterday for my family and me as we stopped here for a late lunch as we headed back home to SA. The gentleman who took our order was friendly and thorough as he confirmed our order, not only at the speakerbox but at the window as well. We gladly pulled to the front to wait for our food, which meant it should be fresh and hot. It was! My partner, son, and I ordered the kids' double meat Whataburger combo meal. We added bacon and jalapeños which kicked it up a notch. Our foreign exchange student had the Whatachicken, which he really enjoyed. Horrible customer service, nobody is friendly there when I go. Most of the employees seem like they hate working there. I make my order specific and they somehow manage to mess it up. And it's happened more than one or two times. When I go back to get it fixed, they dont even offer you any complimentary drink or food for the trouble. I used to really love Whataburger. Mostly because I'm from California and we don't have it here. So when ever I get the chance I eat here. But honestly lately it's really kinda meh. Don't know what else to say. Most of the places are clean. Good service. But I think the food is just average I recently ate at the Irving Texas location and has the Whataburger combo. I wish they would put chopped lettuce on their burgers. It just falls out. Why not leaf the lettuce instead? The fries have zero taste. They're nice and crispy. It's official: I am done with this Whataburger. This location BLOWS. Hard. I've been here tons of times and I guess I should know better after having spent hours of my life waiting for incorrect orders (so shame on me), but I was naive enough to think that since they recently updated their lobby that maybe they would have upped their service too. No. UGH. I just came from a late night craving for some breakfast. I ordered a #22 with bacon on a jalapeno cheddar biscuit. I waited about 12 minutes in the drive-thru only to receive a SAUSAGE biscuit (OK, whatever, I'll eat it, but I wanted bacon, dammit) and my hashbrowns were cold and soggy. AND they didn't give me any napkins. I know this all sounds so trivial and in the grand scheme of life, it is, but the girl who took my order was just standing there the whole time at the window, not checking on anything, etc., and it just showed how much management doesn't care here. $6 for a fairly simple meal isn't terribly expensive, but it's not cheap either, so all I ask is that my order be accurate. Was desperate for a big sloppy burger, so my friend recommended this place .... well, actually she drove me to this place instead of Sonic. Okay so what did I get? I got the Jalapeno and Cheeseburger meal and a cookie. My fries were good... not " Oh My Oh My" good, but just "they are hot with just the right amount of salt" good. My Jalapenoburger had three jalapenos on it and they tasted like pickles. The one cookie for 99 cents were good like "stomach happy" good, but I could have gotten three "stomach happy good cookies" for a quarter more at Subway. Damn ... This review is ONLY regarding this location. Whataburger in general is the bomb dot com. This location on the other hand, not so much. Cons - There is no such thing as fast service here. Whataburger in general always takes a little longer anyway because the food is fresh, but this location takes it to a whole new level. 20 minutes parked in the drive thru is the norm. - Your food probably won't be correct. Whether it's a #1 without onions or a regular old kids meal. I'm not sure if they've got a different system that is confusing for them, but my order has been wrong at least 90% of the time. This also goes for friends and family that have been to this one as well. Meh - I can't completely knock the service. Sometimes you get some really friendly people, other times it's like you are an absolute burden to their life. You never know what you're gonna get... Pros - When the food is right and you get out of there in under 5 minutes, it's a good day. LPT: The absolute best hangover preventative measure is 2am chorizo tacos from Whataburger. I was passing through driving cross country, so this was convenient as it's directly across from the Motel 6. If you're a woman alone or with kids, drive, cuz crossing the highway with mostly big rig traffic can be dicey & there is prostitution in the area (of course, with a truck stop & motels in a dicey 'hood)... 1 young working girl was racking up quite a biz at the Motel 6 1 day. (See my M6 review below). This was my 1st visit to a WAB & I was pleasantly surprised with the food & prices. Order & pay at the counter & you're given an empty cup for a self-serve drink, left of the counter (if you ordered one) & a plastic # to put on your table or hold, even for a take out. They'll find you when your order is ready. A bit of a negative is there really isn't room to stand up front when waiting for a takeout & it does take a good 15+ min... I had to keep re-positioning to get out of everyone's way. The good? Burger & coffee taste far superior to its fast food competition, the lettuce/tomatoes are fresher & it's a few dollars cheaper, which is an added bonus. I got a triple cheeseburger & small coffee for just over $6. Huge portions. (Note: They put no condiments at all on food, so servers bring around a condiment tray with ample containers for you to select what you want. I didn't know & thought they were extra condiments, so left with a plain burger. Boo... now I know for next time.) The bad? As others have said, this location is slow despite how many people are working & each worker is doing so at a fast pace & fairly capably. Those behind the counter take orders, fill take-out bags for the drive thru, bring tray orders to waiting customers at tables & race around behind the grill area, too. They did fine & were pleasant enough, but they were scrambling to keep up with a packed dining room & filled to the brim drive thru. Perhaps understaffed? I visited at 10am on a Thursday & they seemed a bit scattered... someone left the top off the giant, self serve coffee urn so it was cold. I returned to the counter & she poured 1 from their drive thru supply, so all was well, but I had to wait 10-min to be helped, as staff was bustling at breakneck speed all over the restaurant & I didn't want to interrupt the flow. The patrons seemed a little worse for wear. I'm guessing most are truckers, but some looked very downtrodden and/or homeless, so I wouldn't have felt comfortable eating in the dining room. I'm sure others felt the same, cuz that morning, a fair amount of folks were eating in their cars, which looked a bit odd. As others said below, the drive thru was backed up with 6+ cars the entire 20+ min it took me to get in, order, fidget with my GPS directions, then get on the road. 5* out of 5 for food quality, portions & prices & their hardworking staff, trying their hardest to keep up. -1* & that's only for the dicey location & time it takes to get in & out with an order. This place can't be utilized for a quick stop before work or on lunch hour. And, as a traveler, I noticed other travelers waiting impatiently for their orders, some complaining that McDonald's would be faster next time. I read their website & it takes longer as each order is made when ordered... no old burgers sitting around. Note to Management: Maybe post something in the restaurant to let customers know orders are made fresh, so take 10-min longer than most fast food places. Most have no idea. And, perhaps hire a few more staff members. Oh, & don't forget to acknowledge those you already have working here, cuz they're doing a fine job, including being very patient & kind with the young learning disabled man working the morning shift this week. Since he required extra help, understandably so, your staff dealt with him beautifully, given how busy they all were. Good food. I'll try others across the country as I'm traveling & will definitely be by for road coffee! I say the latter as an espresso snob! Well done, WAB, but add more staff before patrons return to McD & BKing, just for speed alone... if I needed a grab-n-go lunch, I'd have to go elsewhere. read more

Every single time I go it's the same thing.
