This place is awesome. The chicken is so good, sauces, rice, buns, and appetizers are packed with flavor and a little spice. Fast service, filling, and not very expensive. What else could you want for lunch? read more

What Da Chick - Da Chick Satay - Thai Near Me - Watertown, Massachusetts

Arguably one of the best, if not the best, khao man gai you will ever have. Perfectly cooked - tender, juicy, and served with a spicy lime / chili sauce that compliments it beautifully. The khao man tod (crispy chicken) is also fried to perfection in a light batter with a great crunch and crisp. The ginger rice is fluffy, soft, and adds a subtle kick of flavor to this amazing Thai dish. I will definitely be returning to this small, cozy mom and pop shop in the Watertown area. Also recommend the matcha green Thai tea (the tea flavor is very strong which I like)! read more

What Da Chick - Khao Man Gai + Crispy Combo Chick Rice - Thai Near Me - Watertown, Massachusetts

Crispy chicken rice is similar to "Funan" fried chicken rice, very good, better than roast chicken and white chicken rice options. Ginger rice is nice, though not as oily fragrant as "tian-tian" rice. Decent option substitute for Hainanese chicken rice. read more

I have the luxury of living right next to this restaurant. Inevitably, as I walked past the restaurant, an irresistible wave of tantalizing aromas enveloped me, instantly whetting my appetite and piquing my curiosity about the culinary delights within. Chicken and rice sound like a simple meal, but this spot makes this comfort meal incredibly well. The chicken is always well cooked and juicy, while the rice is tasty and fluffy. To make things even better, they give you a flavorful broth, a few slices of cucumber, and sweet and spicy salsa. I don't know if it's the Mexican in me, but I always grab some of my rice and put it in the broth. I also pour the salsa over the chicken, and then eat each piece of chicken with a spoonful of rice. The service is very quick and friendly. The space is small but kept clean. The portions are just as well-served when the food is ordered for takeout. Overall, I have nothing but great things to say about this place. read more

What Da Chick - Roasted Chick Rice - Thai Near Me - Watertown, Massachusetts

First time having Thai-styled chicken rice, and I liked it! I ordered the roasted chicken rice which comes with a generous portion of flavored rice and chicken, a small side of spicy garlic chili sauce, and a daikon soup. It was very hearty and satisfying. The chicken gyoza was also very good. Service was great. I'd like to come back and try the crispy version next time. read more

This place is one of my favorite restaurants to order from. The roasted chicken, and the spicy fried chicken were my favorites. I also loved the side of soup that came with our orders I order Uber eats from here very frequently because it's just that good. Made the trip up for the first time this past Friday afternoon and would definitely come back! My partner and I ordered a spicy chick rice and combo chick rice, which is a crispy chick rice and what da chick rice, i.e. poached chicken, combined - TASTE: 4/5 - although the spicy chick could have been spicier, it had a nice, low heat and even a hint of citrus! The poached chicken also hit the spot, and the sauces and daikon soup complemented the chicken just right TEXTURE: 5/5 - the crispiness of the chicken was perfect. Well done, What Da Chick! PRICE: 4/5 - prices were reasonable SERVING SIZE: 3/5 - definitely smaller than I expected, but still a satisfying portion for me SERVICE: 4/5 - ordered in store and got our food in less than 10 minutes. Staff was super friendly too ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - although we didn't dine in (got takeout and ate at the park next door), the murals were so cute and made for a homey space. As an aside, we were enthralled by the food challenge posted on their wall, which apparently no brave soul has yet to try! I believe it's the family combo, which is a huge plate (6 entrees worth) that you have to eat in 25 minutes -- I'm personally invested in when this challenge will be beat :) PARKING: 4/5 - we were able to snag a free parking spot closeby across the street read more

Finally got to try this place after driving past it for months! Parking was easy and the restaurant itself is small with a few tables to eat at. I ordered over the phone and my food was ready in about 10 minutes. I ordered the combo chicken rice which came with rice, daikon soup, crispy chicken, poached chicken, and sweet chili sauce. The chicken was so crispy even after being in a takeout container and seasoned very well. The poached chicken was less flavorful but still really good. The rice was a star in this dish! Ive always loved hainan chicken rice and this was very similar. Very gingery and had a great savory flavor from being cooked with chicken broth. The sauces that came with the chicken were also fantastic although I wish they had a little more heat. Sweet chili sauce is never my favorite but here it wasn't too sweet and had a mild heat to it. The tamarind sauce was interesting with a sweet, sour, and spicy flavor. Both complemented the rice and chicken! Definitely going to come back for that crispy chicken rice and to try some of their drinks. read more

Fast friendly service and the food is always consistent. The chicken is cooked to perfection and the rice is l especially flavorful.

I tried out this gem last night and loved my takeout order so much. Maybe it's part of aging, but I haven't liked fried foods that much lately so I went with the poached and roasted chicken combo plus a Thai iced tea. My goodness was the simple meal delicious! I have a deathly fear of dry/overdone chicken but What Da Chick's chicken was mosit.I didn't have my food immediately and even after microwaving, the chicken was juicy. I ended up mixing both sauces together and dousing it on top of the chicken and rice and it was delectable. I'm not a big fan of sweetness but I thought the ginger and spicy flavors helped offset the sugar. I am extremely picky about Thai iced tea and loved it here. The woman up front was so nice too. I will become a regular! read more

Very quick service. Sad that the "crispy chicken" was soggy-- reheated. The poached chicken was simple and good texture, rice tasty ( made with chicken broth). The dipping sauce is full of flavor. It is reasonably priced for simply prepared food. It was a good size portion. I would come back often. read more

Located in a neighborhood and across from a small park, this restaurant has a very interesting design. There is on street parking. When you initially come in, the open kitchen is very prominent. Off to the side there is a hostess stand where someone will direct you to small dine in area. The crispy chicken rice (13.95 w/o tax) is delicious and is accompanied by a small cup of daikon soup. The popcorn chick (6.95 w/o tax) is of the frozen variety and nothing of note. read more

Overall: 9.0/10 Taste: 10/10 - The crispy chicken was very well fried and still juicy in the middle and the baked chicken was flavorful too - The sauce was the best part, full of garlic and flavor Price: 9/10 - It was reasonably priced for a meal that fills you up - The food challenge is intriguing and something I would want to try at some point Service: 8/10 - The workers were polite but did seem slightly rushed with all the orders Ambiance: 9/10 - The place was empty but it seems clean and nice fun place read more

Decided to try this place when I saw it popped up on Yelp as a new and hot business! Tried a few Thai chicken places before, like Chick Chick and Hen Chicken Rice. It's been a while, but I feel like What Da Chick is definitely more flavorful and offers more variety on their menu. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed with one large group and another couple. There were still a few tables open, so it's relatively spacious if you decide to dine-in. Sat down, but nobody really attended us until we reached out to them. Can't blame them as they were pretty busy with pick-up orders. Ordered a What Da Chick rice, Crispy Chick rice and a Logan drink. The meals came with daikon soup which was really good. The Logan drink was not what I expected. I think they use honey Logan juice and dried Logan. It was tasty and interesting...just not what I expected. As for the meals, I definitely prefer the sauce that came with the Crispy Chick which was sweet chili sauce. Not to say that the ginger sauce wasn't good! Both chickens were very tender, but I prefer the Crispy Chicken as it has more flavor. The rice was perfectly cooked and had a slight chicken/salty flavor and complemented the chicken really well Overall, I would definitely recommend you to give this place a try if you like Thai Chicken or Hainanese Chicken (pretty similar). I heard the grilled chicken was the best there, so I will definitely be back to try that!! read more

My wife and I lived in Bangkok for a couple years a while back. We always crave good thai food. Khao man gai is something you can get in several iterations depending on the country but the thai style is really my favorite when compared to something like a hainan or singaporean chicken rice dish. Within the style of khao man gai I've always felt that the chicken and rice themselves are usually within a pretty tight range of quality for any decent spot. What makes a place really stand out are their sauces and the soup. And that sauce at What Da Chick is the closest I've felt to being back in Bangkok since my time there. It is so good. Finally brought my wife here and agreed whole heartedly. Personally my preferred way to eat it is khao man gai tod (fried chicken) but eating it with the ginger sauce instead of the traditional sweet and sour sauce. read more

Great for a quick bite to eat. Chicken is cooked perfectly not too dry, great flavor! The Daikon soup was some of the best I've had! Dined in and the food came out really quickly. read more

Wonderful little place. Chicken is very good and cheap. Decor is spare and basic. Service is very friendly and helpful.

What a cluckin' feast at What Da Chick! Thai food always hits the spot, and chicken and rice are like a warm hug for my taste buds.

Chicken and rice might sound like a simple meal but What Da Chick does it SO WELL. There is something about the food here that makes it feel so warm and homey. My favorite is the spicy chicken - amazing crisp and packed with spices and flavor. Their sauces are delicious but for the spicy chicken, it is so tasty that you can choose to go without. I also really like the roasted chicken, another option that is great with or without their sauces. For the poached option, i'd recommend having it with a sauce since it is a little more bland. The rice is also beautifully cooked with a chicken broth?? (i assume, it's so good). Their soup reminds me of my own family's cooking and the touches of cucumber are perfect for an additional light and refreshing crunch. Love this place! read more

I ordered from here for the first time today and the food was incredible. We got the combo chicken rice, the roasted chicken rice and crispy chicken rice. The rice, chicken, and even the soup were so flavorful. The sweet chili sauce made the chicken so much better and the lime tamarind sauce was so spicy and tangy. Reminded me a lot of sauces I'd have in Malaysia. This is probably the best chicken rice I've had in the U.S. We will definitely order from here again :) read more

Wow. When a dish doesn't have a lot of elements in it, there's no place for any part of it to hide. This requires each element to work in harmony and to shine on their own. I had the combo meal with the crispy chicken and the poached chicken and both were absolutely delicious. The rice below the chicken had tons of flavor. The sauces were the star. The sweet chili is a familiar one, but the What the Chick sauce was the clear winner. Just so much flavor, I want to just pour it on top of everything! Really appreciated the daikon broth, which was not too salty and had lots of subtle flavor. Fantastic food, absolutely will come back. Try the combo meal to get the full experience! read more

Absolutely delicious fried chicken. The menu is small but they do what they do extremely well, namely, chicken and rice. This place is a nice addition to the area. The soup- ehh. Pretty bland, but inoffensive. Just broth with parsley and a couple chunks of daikon in it. Maybe I should have finished the meal with it instead of led. The rice- very nice. It was nice and fluffy and had a subtle taste of ginger and garlic to it. Very well done. The chicken- to be honest, we got stuck in traffic so we got it maybe a little later than I would have preferred. But! The poached chicken was tender and flavorful and the fried chicken was well fried and crispy. Really very well done, tho I imagine some folks might not dig on poached chicken skin. The sauces- the sweet chili sauce was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The ginger sauce was great, nice little burn to it. We also got the lemon/tamarind sauce which was probably my favorite- also spicy but the lemon really gave it a decent zip. Staff was very friendly The restaurant itself is small but clean and felt welcoming. If it weren't Covid I'd feel good eating in but as it is the ceilings were maybe a little too low for me. The food is great tho, and if I could swap the soup for anything else I would totally take that option. Next time I need to try their apps and their roast chicken option. Definitely will go back for seconds sometime soon. read more

Pretty good. Think I should have gotten the spicy chicken and rice. But we got the crispy chicken and rice. It was a bit bland but overall good. The sweet chili sauce for dipping and drizzling over the rice was really good. Also got fried chicken gyoza, which were above average. I'd go again but wasn't blown away. read more

Your chicken rice is the WORST I have even had!!!!!!!! I placed an online order via Uber Eat for two portions of chicken rice and one Thai iced coffee from your restaurant today. Regrettably, your food quality fell significantly short of expectations. You shouldn't sell low-quality food to customers at all no matter what!!! - The rice itself was excessively mushy and clumping. You should carefully check the quality of the rice before selling it to customers every single time. - The chicken was dry and tough, and the chicken texture was rough. I am so disappointed and very surprised that you dare to sell such food to customers. This is ridiculous!!! You must improve and maintain the quality of your food. Your actions are highly disrespectful to customers. Whilst not seeking complimentary items, my purchase was made in good faith. I didn't ask for free food, but I bought your food with my hard-earned money. Do you think it's fair to customers? read more

I've heard more and more buzz about What Da Chick and finally made a trip :) twice in a row for takeout ;) I drove here both times, plenty of parking in the area. When you walk in, you can see the host and the kitchen staff, from what I can see there is a separate room with more dining tables. I got to try a variety! Lets start with apps/drinks :) Da Chick Bun was pretty fun, one order comes with 2 buns. I loved that you get large slices of chicken inside as well as a friendly portion of sauce, a bit messy but delicious! I also ordered a Thai Iced Tea and Thai Matcha Iced Tea. Theyre both very light thai teas (not as dense/heavy as most thai teas in Boston). I lowkey favored the matcha one more just because it was more flavorful, but both were delicious! I also got to try 2 of their rice dishes, crispy chicken, roasted chicken and what da chick rice! Gotta say, I love that they didnt skimp on the serving of chicken they give like some places do. The rice was perfectly cooked, super fragrant chicken flavors infused :) Each rice dish comes with their own pairing of sauces, all on the thicker side but packs so much flavor. Each bite of chicken, rice and sauce was perfection! Love that each rice dish comes with a side of soup to complete the meal :D Overall, I loved not only my take out experience but the store itself is just super cute. I would love to dine in just to get a different experience. Highly recommend this place! read more

Second time trying this place! I really like the daikon soup and the chicken! The crispy and the none crispy are both delicious. It's a small casual sit in or take out place in Watertown. Prices are fair, and portion sizes are just right. I personally like the none fried version more but the crispy chicken was honestly really good. I think I would want a little more rice to come with the chicken but overall solid place for chicken and rice!!! I would recommend :) read more
