I tried out this gem last night and loved my takeout order so much. Maybe it's part of aging, but I haven't liked fried foods that much lately so I went with the poached and roasted chicken combo plus a Thai iced tea. My goodness was the simple meal delicious! I have a deathly fear of dry/overdone chicken but What Da Chick's chicken was mosit.I didn't have my food immediately and even after microwaving, the chicken was juicy. I ended up mixing both sauces together and dousing it on top of the chicken and rice and it was delectable. I'm not a big fan of sweetness but I thought the ginger and spicy flavors helped offset the sugar. I am extremely picky about Thai iced tea and loved it here. The woman up front was so nice too. Located in a neighborhood and across from a small park, this restaurant has a very interesting design. There is on street parking. When you initially come in, the open kitchen is very prominent. Off to the side there is a hostess stand where someone will direct you to small dine in area. The crispy chicken rice (13.95 w/o tax) is delicious and is accompanied by a small cup of daikon soup. Finally got to try this place after driving past it for months! Parking was easy and the restaurant itself is small with a few tables to eat at. I ordered over the phone and my food was ready in about 10 minutes. I ordered the combo chicken rice which came with rice, daikon soup, crispy chicken, poached chicken, and sweet chili sauce. The chicken was so crispy even after being in a takeout container and seasoned very well. The poached chicken was less flavorful but still really good. The rice was a star in this dish! Ive always loved hainan chicken rice and this was very similar. Very gingery and had a great savory flavor from being cooked with chicken broth. The sauces that came with the chicken were also fantastic although I wish they had a little more heat. Sweet chili sauce is never my favorite but here it wasn't too sweet and had a mild heat to it. The tamarind sauce was interesting with a sweet, sour, and spicy flavor. Both complemented the rice and chicken! Made the trip up for the first time this past Friday afternoon and would definitely come back! My partner and I ordered a spicy chick rice and combo chick rice, which is a crispy chick rice and what da chick rice, i.e. poached chicken, combined - TASTE: 4/5 - although the spicy chick could have been spicier, it had a nice, low heat and even a hint of citrus! My wife and I lived in Bangkok for a couple years a while back. We always crave good thai food. Khao man gai is something you can get in several iterations depending on the country but the thai style is really my favorite when compared to something like a hainan or singaporean chicken rice dish. Within the style of khao man gai I've always felt that the chicken and rice themselves are usually within a pretty tight range of quality for any decent spot. What makes a place really stand out are their sauces and the soup. And that sauce at What Da Chick is the closest I've felt to being back in Bangkok since my time there. It is so good. Finally brought my wife here and agreed whole heartedly. Personally my preferred way to eat it is khao man gai tod (fried chicken) but eating it with the ginger sauce instead of the traditional sweet and sour sauce. read more

Decided to try this place when I saw it popped up on Yelp as a new and hot business! Tried a few Thai chicken places before, like Chick Chick and Hen Chicken Rice. It's been a while, but I feel like What Da Chick is definitely more flavorful and offers more variety on their menu. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed with one large group and another couple. There were still a few tables open, so it's relatively spacious if you decide to dine-in. Sat down, but nobody really attended us until we reached out to them. Can't blame them as they were pretty busy with pick-up orders. Ordered a What Da Chick rice, Crispy Chick rice and a Logan drink. The meals came with daikon soup which was really good. The Logan drink was not what I expected. I think they use honey Logan juice and dried Logan. It was tasty and interesting...just not what I expected. As for the meals, I definitely prefer the sauce that came with the Crispy Chick which was sweet chili sauce. Not to say that the ginger sauce wasn't good! Both chickens were very tender, but I prefer the Crispy Chicken as it has more flavor. The rice was perfectly cooked and had a slight chicken/salty flavor and complemented the chicken really well Overall, I would definitely recommend you to give this place a try if you like Thai Chicken or Hainanese Chicken (pretty similar). What a cluckin' feast at What Da Chick! Thai food always hits the spot, and chicken and rice are like a warm hug for my taste buds.

Chicken and rice might sound like a simple meal but What Da Chick does it SO WELL. There is something about the food here that makes it feel so warm and homey. My favorite is the spicy chicken - amazing crisp and packed with spices and flavor. Their sauces are delicious but for the spicy chicken, it is so tasty that you can choose to go without. I also really like the roasted chicken, another option that is great with or without their sauces. For the poached option, i'd recommend having it with a sauce since it is a little more bland. The rice is also beautifully cooked with a chicken broth?? (i assume, it's so good). Their soup reminds me of my own family's cooking and the touches of cucumber are perfect for an additional light and refreshing crunch. Love this place! read more

Wow. When a dish doesn't have a lot of elements in it, there's no place for any part of it to hide. This requires each element to work in harmony and to shine on their own. I had the combo meal with the crispy chicken and the poached chicken and both were absolutely delicious. The rice below the chicken had tons of flavor. The sauces were the star. The sweet chili is a familiar one, but the What the Chick sauce was the clear winner. Just so much flavor, I want to just pour it on top of everything! This place is a nice addition to the area. The soup- ehh. Pretty bland, but inoffensive. Just broth with parsley and a couple chunks of daikon in it. Maybe I should have finished the meal with it instead of led. The rice- very nice. It was nice and fluffy and had a subtle taste of ginger and garlic to it. Very well done. The chicken- to be honest, we got stuck in traffic so we got it maybe a little later than I would have preferred. But! The poached chicken was tender and flavorful and the fried chicken was well fried and crispy. Really very well done, tho I imagine some folks might not dig on poached chicken skin. The sauces- the sweet chili sauce was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The ginger sauce was great, nice little burn to it. We also got the lemon/tamarind sauce which was probably my favorite- also spicy but the lemon really gave it a decent zip. I've heard more and more buzz about What Da Chick and finally made a trip :) twice in a row for takeout ;) I drove here both times, plenty of parking in the area. When you walk in, you can see the host and the kitchen staff, from what I can see there is a separate room with more dining tables. I got to try a variety! Lets start with apps/drinks :) Da Chick Bun was pretty fun, one order comes with 2 buns. I loved that you get large slices of chicken inside as well as a friendly portion of sauce, a bit messy but delicious! I also ordered a Thai Iced Tea and Thai Matcha Iced Tea. Theyre both very light thai teas (not as dense/heavy as most thai teas in Boston). I lowkey favored the matcha one more just because it was more flavorful, but both were delicious! I also got to try 2 of their rice dishes, crispy chicken, roasted chicken and what da chick rice! Gotta say, I love that they didnt skimp on the serving of chicken they give like some places do. The rice was perfectly cooked, super fragrant chicken flavors infused :) Each rice dish comes with their own pairing of sauces, all on the thicker side but packs so much flavor. Each bite of chicken, rice and sauce was perfection! Love that each rice dish comes with a side of soup to complete the meal :D Overall, I loved not only my take out experience but the store itself is just super cute. Second time trying this place! I really like the daikon soup and the chicken! The crispy and the none crispy are both delicious. It's a small casual sit in or take out place in Watertown. Prices are fair, and portion sizes are just right. I personally like the none fried version more but the crispy chicken was honestly really good. We just moved nearby and I remembered reading a positive review in the Boston Globe so we were very excited to try it. I liked the simple menu that focused on a few great offering. We ordered 3 meals - combo, roasted and spicy to try out the variety. The diakon soup was delicious but the serving portion was tiny with a quarter slice of diakon. The meals came quickly and had good heaping of rice. The chicken was tasty and mine favorites were the poached and grilled. I was a bit disappointed with small amount of meat and few slices of cucumbers. I wish the meals came with more vegetables (I.e. side vegetable stir fry) to balance out the rice and chicken.
