I got them and went to pay. I liked that I didn't have to wait in line. Another cashier came to the front of the store and took me to pay. There are so many advantages to going to a small hardware store versus a Home Depot. And the number one reason is the customer service. Thank you all for starting my day with a smile!

I have to question AG's decision to affiliate with ACE Hardware. I bought an item from ACE Hardware directly via their website and had it shipped to their store. I also purchased a few items directly from A.G. Again pleasant experience, real hard working knowledgeable folks in here. It really is a call back to the hardware stores of yesteryear at A.G. Well the item I purchased from Ace's website did not meet my needs and I tried to initiate a return with A.G. But they sent me packing and to deal directly with ACE. I understand it's ACE policy and I technically did not pay for them for that item. I just feels like if the local stores are going to accept shipments from ACE they should be able to initiate an Return Merchant Authorization as well. I called ACE numerous times and even Tweeted at them, but I was blown off. So now I'm out $40 dollars for a tool I don't use and could be sold as new again. They did not honor their 30 day return policy. Yes, I understand we are in "uncertain" times, but it just felt off putting. I had to buy a mini-fridge from Home Depot recently the unit I got was defective out of the box. Home Depot took the fridge back and refunded my money post-haste. Markets and customers change and I guess I will take my business elsewhere, but it feels like ACE has some really outdated policies and procedures in handling customer disputes.

It's not overwhelming, and it's not bare -- it's just well-stocked with the things you actually need. Whether it's plumbing parts, paint supplies, lawn equipment, or random hardware pieces that big-box stores somehow never have in the right size, this place tends to have it. What really sets it apart is the staff. Instead of wandering around trying to decode aisle numbers, someone actually steps in and helps. And not in a pushy way -- in a knowledgeable, practical way. You explain what you're trying to fix, and they help you think it through. That kind of hands-on guidance makes a huge difference, especially for home projects that aren't straightforward. There's also something refreshing about the pace. It doesn't feel chaotic or corporate. It feels steady and reliable. You can get in, find what you need, and leave feeling confident that you bought the right thing. If you value knowledgeable help, a solid inventory, and a store that feels connected to the community rather than just operating in it, Lorden True Value Hardware delivers. It's dependable, well-run, and exactly what a hardware store should be.

My father (who passed at age 94) would drive down to this store several times per week to "check…read morewhether Shoe City has..." whatever item he "needed that day:" whether large or small, he knew after centuries of shopping there that they carry unique goods not found in most hardware stores. Even though their prices are generally HIGHER than elsewhere, he knew what he needed, wanted, and was a LOYAL & LONGTIME customer. After he passed, I would walk to Shoe City whenever I needed something, or walk in and browse as I passed those opened doors. I soon found for myself that their Customer Service is "spotty" & the stock they carry has diminished over the years. ON MY LAST VISIT, I stopped in to ask whether it was possible to special order components for an obscure/vintage "Weiser" doorknob. The older gentleman, who I believe is the owner, came up to me, rudely & very dismissively insisting that in 30+ years in the business he had "NEVER heard of the brand!" BOTTOM LINE: Perhaps Shoe City Hardware was once a great local hardware store with staff that helped customers find hard-to-find pieces nowhere else available. But now their GENERAL MERCHANDISE items are pricey & limited to 1 or 2 brands. And sadly, those unique/ classic "gems" that once kept loyal customers coming back have become leftovers from "old inventory" & no longer replenished. They have not had the simple, common items/solutions I'd been shopping for during my past 5 visits. I fear they are biding time until they go out of business. I wish them well. - a Disenchanted "Father's Little Girl"
