    Mil discount
    m m.

Now that OConnors finally offers a military discount (a few years ago), besides being kind of overpriced on a LOT of things (before current economy - this is not new) it appears that they only allow items that they decide deserve a military discount, so today's military discount was a big fat 0. I realize that this is a privilege and I am not balking this completely but really, why bother. Lowes and Depot are not that far and well, as much as I like to support the little guy, I loathe going to this store. They are doing just fine and pretty close to Hanscom - if you are going to give a military discount give a military discount...or just don't. To me, picking and choosing what to discount is not a good look.

Huge store. Helpful staff. Just got keys made. Easy parking. Apparently the large test Ace store on New England.

We hit a few different Sherwin Williams locations and asked color and paint quality questions. We were kind of taking votes on exterior trim and accent colors and picking the brains of employees regarding a bunch of scenarios including this horrendous unrelenting humidity and how the exterior paint would fare. After an amazing experience with a Sherwin Williams Zoom Color Consultation with a enthusiastic, experienced, patient and extremely helpful gal named Aimee - we decided on the colors and just needed to purchase the paint. The assistance at the Sherwin Williams stores we had previously visited was just okay. I happened to see this Wimington location while in the area for my dentist appointment, so I stopped in. Hemant greeted me with a big smile when I walked in. You could tell he was a great guy, with great energy and he liked his job. I told him about our project and he was friendly, and helpful and so good-natured. Unfortunately, you don't see much of that these days. I asked about coupons and he explained the various sales that the store runs, he showed me discounted cans for any other projects I might want to do and told me about the diferences inthe paint qualities. I thanked him, grabbed his card and knew I would be driving way out of my way to give him my business - just like I do with my dentist. We just bought the paint today. He was his usual awesome, engaging self and even asked to see photos once we are done. Love this guy and I highly recommend this particular location because of him.

So we bought a house in October. How crazy is that?…read more This house was extremely outdated and was just screaming for a paint job in every room of the house. Lowes, home depot, and Colorworks. Paint was bought at all three. With some things brands don't matter, but with paint, it totally does. The difference was obvious to me, not just in the finished product but also in the application process. The Benjamin Moore paint (which is sold at Colorworks) just went on easier and didn't kill my arm as much as the other two brands. The other thing I can say about Colorworks is that their fidelity to the color is much better than other places. I've never had a problem with color matching when I've had to buy a new can of paint of a color that I'd run out of. Check it out!

Almost a third of their paint samples were missing and what was there wasn't in the right place. When I asked if they had any samples of Manchester Tan out back I was told there wasn't. They weren't able to make me a sample of anything smaller than a PINT (and PS Colorworks, a pint of paint is not a sample) and they couldn't tell me when they would get more samples. The person at the cash register seemed annoyed that I was bothering him and there was a handful of people in the back laughing it up. None of them were interested in helping the customer. I can get small samples of paint anywhere and I can buy Benjamin Moore paint at most hardware stores which is where I will buy my paint in the future. I would hate to bother the employees at Colorworks with my pesky questions about paint.

Go to Home Depot and show the guy behing the paint counter a swatch of your granite countertop and ask him what color he would recommend considering you have cherry cabinetry. Then, when he's done laughing at you, go to Waters & Brown and show your granite swatch to Sam and Lauren (I think her name is.) That's what I did and they immediately both thought of the same color, Quahog. So much darker than I ever wanted to go but wow, just the right color. Then Sam suggested Oxygen (a pale blue) for the ceiling and a color called America's Cup for the trim. The America's Cup (an off white) threw my husband into fits of worry. Will it be too yellow? Will it look dirty and dingy? Sam, promised it wouldn't and explained why . . . and he was right. So right, that my husband went back and asked him what color we should paint the adjoining hall, Sam made a recommendation and my husband walked out with that color paint. This is the same husband who would gladly spend months deliberating every decision, no matter how minute!!! So it is no exaggeration when I say that Sam may have single-handedly saved my marriage, or perhaps my husband's life because I was ready to either kill or divorce him. So as we decorate our entire home over, all I can say is thank God for Waters and Brown, and thank God for Sam!!!!

Listen, I am busier than a mailman in a tornado and I only write reviews for businesses that…read moredeserve either awesome reviews, businesses that have a rating I find perplexing, or businesses that should be burned to the ground as a matter of public safety. I have been going to A & M painting for about 10 years. I f*#4ing hate painting. I would rather donate both lungs to a fish than paint. A & M makes painting so, so much easier. Go to A & M painting or I will write a scathing review about your hygiene habits. In my experience, every great business is great largely because of the people that work there. Scott knows more about paint than Van Gogh. He's also incredibly unlikely to cut off his ear and send it to you. He will spend time with you. He will find both the correct product for you and set you on the path to an efficient, beautiful project. You have no idea how much I hate painting. I would rather have all my teeth pulled and replaced with those blue sanitizer things at the bottom of urinals than paint. A & M makes painting more like getting a bad papercut with a tax bill, so relatively tolerable. I wish I could show you what I am looking at. I asked Scott to match a paint the previous tenant of my office left for the walls. (I should mention that the previous business failed because the idiot owner bought paint at Lowe's, where, I $h!t you not, I was recently told that there are two quarts in a gallon. True story.) Scott hooked me up with a paint that is the exact - EXACT - color match. That's not the only thing though. He knows I hate painting - mostly because of the anti-painting protests I hold downtown once a month or so - so he gave me a paint so high in quality that the job only needed one coat. Really. The whole room, 12' x 15', took me two hours, including sanding, washing, taping, and painting. I f*#$ing hate painting so much. It's like this for me: Boko Haram, painting, lobbyists, Bill Laimbeer, people that don't like Thanksgiving... I should mention that the first time I went to A & M was because I asked a professional painter where I should go, and he told me A & M. Keeping with this train of thought...Ever go into a sushi place and you're the only American there? Everyone else is Japanese? Well, I have. I was in Japan, but that doesn't matter. Half of the people in A & M are professional painters. Follow the pros to find other pros. In this case, if you follow the pros, you won't end up at Lowe's; that's because 4 quarts per gallon Scott knows, does and bros. So, skip the Homer "DOHs" and go to A & M, because painting blows. Your job will come out much better and be much easier. Do it. Rumi tip of the day: A female deer is a doe. Plural is "does."

Yesterday, I had a problem returning used motor oil. I was told (correctly) that they can only accept oil that they sell with a receipt. All I had was an old "Master Mechanic" jug from when they were still True Value. On my way out, after I had picked up some new oil, I spoke with Kevin (store manager). He said, "I know you have been coming here forever, let me see what I can do." Seriously, a store where they recognize you is a treasure these days. They consistently go above any other store to make this customer happy. Last fall, I dropped my snowblower off for a repair and was told 8 weeks. So I was pleasantly surprised when I got a call 3 days later to come pick up my machine. They had swapped out the carburetor. I was a bit surprised at the price, but they got it done before the first snowstorm. So I was grateful they got it done right the first time. Expensive, but still cheaper and faster than paying for a plow service. When the people at a store do everything to win your trust, a big bill is a lot easier to take. At least you know you have been treated fairly. Thanks to Kevin and Scott.
