Shopping for a Weber grill for Father's Day gift. At Home Depot and Lowe's it took forever to find someone to assist us and when they finally did, they had nothing in stock. Went to O'Connor today and was immediately assisted by a pleasant young man with a clipboard. He found the grill in store (same price as the other stores) and rang up the order saying O'Connor would deliver it in a few days, no charge. Amazing! It was like the service we used to get in America before the 2020 scamdemic changed everything. Definitely shop here if you remember what good service was like years ago! read more

O'Connor's Hardware customer service is the best. It was the first and most useful recommendation from my neighbor when we first moved here in 1986. Yesterday, I had a problem returning used motor oil. I was told (correctly) that they can only accept oil that they sell with a receipt. All I had was an old "Master Mechanic" jug from when they were still True Value. On my way out, after I had picked up some new oil, I spoke with Kevin (store manager). He said, "I know you have been coming here forever, let me see what I can do." Seriously, a store where they recognize you is a treasure these days. They consistently go above any other store to make this customer happy. Last fall, I dropped my snowblower off for a repair and was told 8 weeks. So I was pleasantly surprised when I got a call 3 days later to come pick up my machine. They had swapped out the carburetor. I was a bit surprised at the price, but they got it done before the first snowstorm. So I was grateful they got it done right the first time. Expensive, but still cheaper and faster than paying for a plow service. When the people at a store do everything to win your trust, a big bill is a lot easier to take. My son and his wife bought a big new home in Billerica and got themselves a Samsung gas dryer. I'm the Dad who came up from South Carolina to help. Getting a gas hose to connect the supply to the dryer was more of an ordeal than we expected. But Mark solved it all by providing us with the exact coupling we needed. People talk about big-box stores all the time. But O'Connor Hardware was in the town, provided what we needed, and had a friendly expert who knew his stuff. read more

An oasis in Billerica, I was STUNNED to find this place via a Google Ads for a specific item that the big box utility stores that we all know and hate, did not carry the item I needed. But O'Connor's did. I have an affinity for small hardware stores. But could one call O'Connor "small" at all? I was blown away by the façade when I first laid eyes on it, a massive store with an outdoor section and equally as big parking lot. My only gripe is with whoever created the in/out sections of the parking lot, why are there no straight lines to the areas you have to get to and all of these random curbs? Once inside you're basically inside a Home Depot without the tall ceilings. This is definitely the largest hardware store north of Boston that doesn't start with a H or L. As my eyes began to wander in amazement, I looked through some of the aisles of items I was not in there looking to find. Kitschy signs, funny decals, all of those items you'll ONLY find at one of these throwback types of stores are what bring me back to going to stores exactly like this with my grandfather back in the 80's. I finally made it to the back of the store, with the help of one of the very kind teenagers who guided me in the right direction, in fact he took me to exactly where I needed to be. Quick checkout with very good help at the front, they weren't "understaffed" in any way even as businesses struggle. I don't have the historical nature to compare this to the "good ol days" of O'Connor's from 10-20 years ago like another reviewer did. If that's the case, do you just want everything to be a Lowe's? I sure as hell don't. Things are out of stock because the world has been thrown a curveball the last two years. I would never blame a mega corporation or a small town hardware store for items being out of stock. I'll return here as often as I can, great experience all around. read more

Their repair department has the absolute worst customer service we have ever experienced. We were upset about the poor customer service we had already experienced and when we told him that we would never shop there again he said that he did not care whether one customer did not shop there again. They have plenty of other customers. Cannot imagine any business not working with a customer at all to resolve a disagreement or saying such a thing. read more

Ive been a huge fan and patron of O'Connor's since I moved to the area 30 + years ago... It's always been THE go to hardware store in the area. The prices where always a little high but it was worth the extra money to me... It was convenient, family / locally owned and had what you needed. But its really changed for the worse the last few years and really gone down hill since dropping True Value and becoming an Ace hardware affiliate... It's no better then Aubusson now and that's sad. Higher prices, lower quality, less options, and a big box store atmosphere are what it's become. I really hate to say it but it's time to bring in a Home Depot or Lowe's.....Sad sad sad... read more

I'm kind of torn about O'Connor's. I still shop here, but it just isn't nearly as good as it used to be say 10 or 20 years ago. These days common things are sometimes out of stock which is annoying. (Like one time I think I was looking for a 1/2" copper sweat fitting and they were out.) OTOH I recently used the service department to get my gas chainsaw running and I was very impressed with them! Other than the service dep't, I think in general a lot of the employees aren't as helpful or friendly as they used to be. In fact, a guy who was recutting me a key basically called me a liar. Not cool. Also, for such a big footprint they seem to be missing some things I would expect them to carry. Like for instance they didn't have an attachment for a drain cleaning machine.
