On the rare occasion they haven't had what I'm looking for, they were quick to steer me to another store that would likely carry that item. It's always been my first stop once I get that "to do" list. I'm not opposed to big box stores. They obviously can carry a greater inventory. But please shop your local merchant first. Do you really want to drive 20 minutes, park a football field away, spend another 20 minutes hunting down your drywall anchors, painters tape, and toilet flush valve, only to have the security alarm go off when you leave?

He started texting me around 7AM on a Saturday morning and refused to schedule a convenient time didn't give his name or any context. Just said.. "hey I need to come look at your grill". When John came on into my property and was condescending about the state of my grill and suggested that I get a new one before even opening it (the only issue is that I have been unable to order the typical replacement parts).The manager's rude tone was unacceptable. The problem? Most places like Home Depot or Lowes use a computerized key copier, and don't program keys like this. In step the Ace Hardware in Woburn. They were able to use their key grinder to make copies with all 3 of my blanks, even though I hadn't purchased the blanks through their store. I left with one less problem, and they earned a repeat customer for life. Thank you!!

Got an email confirmation at 3:46pm on May 29 saying "Your delivery is on track!" and "Your delivery scheduled!" for that same day. No one ever showed up or contacted me. Didn't have time to call on Thursday so I called on Friday morning at 9:38am. The person I spoke to said deliveries are only made on Wednesdays and Saturdays and that someone would call me Saturday May 31 to let me know when the delivery would be ready. It's now 7pm and Ace closes at 5pm. No one has called, no delivery has been brought to the house. I REALLY wanted to give my business to someplace local, but this is ridiculous. I have cancelled my order and unfortunately won't be using this Ace Hardware in Woburn ever again. If an order is placed with a delivery day that you don't deliver on, you should contact the person placing the order and inform them of such. Extremely disappointing.

Someone comes over and asks you what you need. You say it. They find it - or convince you to get something CHEAPER and BETTER and then ring you up and you leave. If you want a scavenger hunt... go to Lowe's. One year they even trimmed the handle on a rake for our toddler so he could "help" with lawn care. No charge. Love it! Apple Stores get all that press for "on the floor" customer attention. Fells True Value appears to have invented that model.

I have repeatedly called them prior to their installation of excellent safety shields and they could not have been more courteous in taking my order by phone and bringing it outside. I decided to check out their safety efforts last week when I needed some bait for fishing. They have counter-to-ceiling plastic sheeting (which they also sell) and contactless card readers, and clearly marked floor designation for social distancing at checkout. Their aisles discourage violation of social distancing. I am 77, have a predisposing risk condition. I of course enter with KN95 mask and vinyl gloves. But it's one of the safest places to shop in Stoneham. If you ever have a problem, just ask for "Mr Round."

The person who answered the Hardware phone line checked the shelves in person, since I was driving in from a distance. "Yes, it was on the shelves", he said. Once in the store, a young employee asked me what I was looking for. When I told him, he said "the store did not carry that product." Fortunately I knew better, and told him that I already had verified that it was on the shelves somewhere. He walked away, leaving me to find it on my own, which I eventually did. If I had not verified it's presense, I would have driven home empty handed. Maybe this employee could use a little more training?

I highly recommend using their order online for in store pickup for the best pricing since the store will follow the online pricing vs the shelf sticker price. Online orders come with a paper bag that has a handle which makes it nice and easy to carry out. There are two floors to the store, with the majority of home improvement things being on the lower level.

When we finally got it back and went to use it, the engine let off smoke and then died. We could not restart it. Think the old oil was never drained properly, just left in and then topped off with new oil. One of their employees took a working mower that just needed an annual tune up and destroyed it. Contacted O'Connor and the manager was so rude. We had to buy a brand new mower. This was a few years ago so hopefully their service folks improved, and the manager actually provides customer service versus yelling about how his employee could never have made that mistake. I was in need of a special kind of lamp socket which supports two circuits but which is not intended to be used with a 3-way type bulb. I was rewiring a vintage kids' lamp that has a normal light bulb fixture at the socket, as well as a smaller "night light" lamp wired into the base of the lamp. I had done the research online to know more or less what I was looking for, but started striking out in the local stores. I tried TAGS in Davis Square first, because I was over there. They had a terrible selection of only 2 or 3 types of sockets. Then I tried RW Shattuck in Arlington Center, which had many more types but still didn't have what I was looking for and furthermore seemed unaware of the possibility that such a product exists. I was about to give up hope when I stopped in to Wanamaker's. To be honest I don't think they understood the product any more than Shattuck, so it was good that I came in to the store because I wouldn't have gotten confirmation about what I was looking for without browsing. So what set Wanamaker's apart from the other stores is they feature this large case of sockets and it seems to be stocked by default with a huge variety of sockets and related parts. They even had some "interior" parts for some socket types, in case you wanted to just replace the inside without the socket shell. I was very happy to find the part, and a replacement power wire, so I could get to the task of rewiring my son's lamp before bedtime that night.

The customer service alone, making actual eye-contact with a helpful associate who asked ME if I needed help is always a far cry from having to wander aimlessly around like "walker" out of The Walking Dead looking for help finding a 3/8" nut! The store is always so welcoming, the front doors propped-open for fresh air, the great job they do setting up the goods for display, and there are always a hundred other little things I want to pick up while looking around! But let's talk real talk.....how can you beat the Benjamin Moore quality, selection, and ease of work with? And how much easier is it really to just swing into the parking lot 50' from the entrance and not have to worry about the hustle-bustle of the orange madness or the blue lagoon!?. This store is a comforting presence whenever I have any home improvement ideas, issues, or emergencies. The owners are salt of the Earth folks with kids of their own and I always enjoy spending a few extra minutes at the end of my purchases talking with them. I go there for EVERYTHING from a light bulb, to a rake, to all of my paint!
