I purchased a grill from Shattuck Ace Hardware several years ago and tried to order replacement parts. I sent pictures of all the places I could find but apparently neither of them were the model and serial number which was needed to order the right parts. So the store manager passed my information on to John Wheatley the store owner. He started texting me around 7AM on a Saturday morning and refused to schedule a convenient time didn't give his name or any context. Just said.. "hey I need to come look at your grill". When John came on into my property and was condescending about the state of my grill and suggested that I get a new one before even opening it (the only issue is that I have been unable to order the typical replacement parts).The manager's rude tone was unacceptable. I live out of state but frequent this store often, as my mother lives nearby. They have always been pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable. On the rare occasion they haven't had what I'm looking for, they were quick to steer me to another store that would likely carry that item. It's always been my first stop once I get that "to do" list. I'm not opposed to big box stores. They obviously can carry a greater inventory. But please shop your local merchant first. Do you really want to drive 20 minutes, park a football field away, spend another 20 minutes hunting down your drywall anchors, painters tape, and toilet flush valve, only to have the security alarm go off when you leave? read more

I'm a professional handyman. First tin of paint from this store for standard color match and it was wrong. No refund -$60 (computer error) Second tin of paint was also way off color and no refund (-$60)Attendant then failed to hammer the lid down properly so it emptied in the footwell of my truck (professional clean = -$200) Total result -$320 and two cans of useless paint. Don't use this store for paint at all. read more

Went in this summer several times. Very helpful staff that hustled to help out even though they are probably short staffed due to Covid. There's an amazing amount of stock for a small space that has a mom and pop feel. I personally make an effort to frequent that store because I want to always have a local shop available to me. Give positive energy to the staff in any business and you will probably get it back. This place is no different. read more

New in town and the very helpful staff assisted me in selecting the right items and even loaded everything in my car since I was juggling two kids. They went above and beyond to help me purchase a final item after I'd already loaded the car. We look forward to visiting this Ace Hardware often! read more

Store isn't perfect but I'm giving it a 5 star rating to offset the crappy ones. This place is as good as it gets for a hardware store. I have been going here for about 10 year. They have 95% of the items that a project-happy will need: Glues, sealants, chemicals, baits, hardware, tools, electrical, and not to mentioned the BEST collection of screws/nuts/bolts around. This is one of the last places that you could find screws of all sizes in all different materials. Prices are also just about the same as big-box stores. I also bought a couple of US-made Stihl gas powered tools that cost a tiny bit more than the imports but work great, are of better quality and come with better warranty. No reason to go anywhere else unless you are looking for building materials, which these guys don't have. As far as making keys go, they charge ~2.50 and I never had an issue with them charging $80 for house keys. If you have some serious questions though, look for the owner. Most of the help are high school kids that are just learning the ropes. read more

I like to support local merchants when I can as, for the most part, they are there to serve the public. Shattuck of Arlington is an old line company that bought out the Lexington store about five years ago. Shattuck has had to staff up the Lexington store. It is a work in progress. The current staff seems about as knowledgable as that at a big box store and lacks something in the way of customer service. "Needs improvement." read more

I love going into this local hardware store. Period. It's a hardware store. Local. Which means it's nothing more than that. What are you all reviewing here. Hatred, cut throat demands, threats of fear, conclusions of distrust...are you for real. It's the local hardware store. And everyone in town knows them. If your so afraid of the atmosphere stay home and keep away from scary hardware stores who seem unable to meet your elite needs. read more

Need 1 item so I went to local Ace when there saw some birdseed on sale buy one get one, so i grabbed it and a couple other items. When ringing up I asked to confirm sale price, man said nope must have been an old sign. Returned item, daughter wanted a $3 mag glass so I added it and the price went up which was odd given the bird seed was $13. Questioned why the price didn't go down, another clerk came over reran the order same price I asked about the sale item which another person was buying at the next register. I needed to be an ace rewards member to get the sale price. Online flyer mentions none of this. Whole time both clerks are looking at me like I'm crazy for questioning the price. Next time I'll spend the extra time an goto Lowes, cheaper and friendlier. read more

This place stinks. The service here is just dismal. Every time I walk in the door and ask for help I get yelled at. Once I had a key made and it was $80-- I was shocked and asked why they hadn't told me it would be so much. They were super rude and said that I wouldn't have been able to find a better price anywhere else. Another time I came in with a paint sample and asked if I could have it lightened. The lady behind the desk said "NO, we don't do that." I was like, "Well... can I buy a new, lighter sample?" She let out a HUGE sigh, like it was the most inconvenient thing in the world, and called Olivia, the only nice person who works here, to help. Got it home, got it on the wall, and it didn't seem right. It was white, no color to it. Called to see if Olivia could help. She no longer works there (don't blame her!) but the guy said to bring it in and they could look at it. Turns out the formula printed on the can was correct so they couldn't help (nice), but his sage advice to me was, "Next time if you don't like the color pick a different color. Don't try to get fancy with customs." Next time, I won't come here. read more

Buyer beware! I picked up a 20 lb bag of black oil sunflower seeds today and brought it home only to find that a hole in the bag (chewed by a mouse) had been cleverly covered up by clear plastic tape. Some of the seed inside the bag had been eaten and only shells were left. I had seen a similar bag in the store with mouse holes, and had pointed it out to the checker who said they did have mice. I immediately drove back to the store, returned the defective bag and asked for a replacement. They didn't have one. They said I could keep the defective bag or return it. I asked if they would give me a discount. They refused. I said they should discount the bags with holes or take them off the shelf before a customer purchased the bags. They laughed and commented, "What have you been smoking?" (The other holey bag was already back on the shelf for the next unobservant customer.) I asked for a refund which I was given in silence. Not the way to treat customers if you want them to come back. read more
