Scott and team not only know this business they are committed to serving. I've shared earlier stories and here is another. This past weekend I brought in a pair of garden shears I thought I'd lost and it turned out I left them in the garden all fall and winter. They were rusted beyond recognition and I was so embarrassed to bring them to Scott to see what was possible. Scott smiled as I showed him my buried treasure and asked if I had a few minutes to wait. With that he disappeared into his workshop with the rusted shears. Not even 10 minutes later Scott reappears with an even bigger smile. The shears are good as new and we both wish we had a before picture ( see the after picture below). So there we have it friends. Another memorable moment in my Vanderhoof Hardware journey. I am one of those DIY types and I have repeatedly found this store to have whatever it is that I have been looking for. I marvel at what is in the store, both visible and what he has stored wherever he keeps so many items. Not only that but the one time Scott did not have the item he sent me to a speciality store in Maynard that carried the electrical part that I needed. His suggestions of products and parts has been exceptional. And the presents that I have purchased from there have been very interesting and well received. read more

I've always enjoyed this store and appreciated the limited but high quality inventory, friendly and helpful customer service, and convenience of its location. Since I moved to another town, however, it hasn't been first on my list simply because I have other hardware stores closer to me.... But today, after having a maddeningly unhelpful telephone exchange with an employee at a nearby competing hardware store, I hung up the phone and said, "I'm calling Vanderhoof!" In minutes, Scott, the owner, patiently talked me through removing the broken part from my toilet tank and promised to wait for me to drive over to get it, despite it being close to closing time. My new part cost me $6.36 and I was happy to be able to install it myself. I am so grateful for good, old-fashioned service from a family business since 1904! I need to get over to Concord Center more often. read more

Great place to get your knives and scissors sharpened for a good price and quick turnaround (one day!)

Stopped in while on vacation and had a chat with Scott the owner. I love old school hardware stores. We picked up a cool LED light. The store is well organized with fun seasonal window displays, seems to carry everything! So much nicer than schlepping to Lowe's or Home Depot. read more

I grew up with a lovely solid table lamp in my living room and when it failed recently I really didn't want a new one. They don't make many things like they used to and this is a "mid century modern piece" probably worth three new lamps. Scott cheerfully repaired 2 window screens I brought in and had them ready for me in an hour! What service! He also helps advise me on miscellaneous home repair projects and has never steered me wrong. I needed to protect a screened in porch from winter storms and he provided me with a simple and inexpensive solution: clear mylar sheets that I simply applied to the wood frames. I always go to his store first, and then only if he can't help me do I go to the big chain hardware entities. How lucky we are to have this old fashioned, family run business in our town. read more

Vanderhoof Hardware is the best hardware store ever! Not only do they have everything that you might need tucked away (just ask), they will teach you how to use the tool you just bought, or help figure out what is the best approach to solving a home repair problem. Recently I went in with the problem that my kittens were jumping on top of my parrot's cage and sticking their paws through the bars. Scott not only had some ideas for what he could create with plexiglass to keep the kittens out, his creation was ready for pick-up by the time I got home. I cannot believe places like this still exist! It's amazing!!! Maybe everyone in this area already knows about this jem but only having left city-apartment living relatively recently, I am both surprised and truly excited that a place like this exists. There are certain demands that arise with having property in the suburbs that I've had no idea where to go to have addressed and Vanderhoof has been there for us every time. I needed an axe sharpened--they do that; knife sharpening--they do that too. I went in to get supplies for my son's pine wood derby race car project, and lamented that there's not anywhere I knew of that could actually cut the car's wood block, and the owner's response: 'I have a full workshop downstairs, I could do that!'. A refreshing and appreciated response especially after having gone to Home Depot and being told that there's no way for the machine tech person to even access the blades to the degree that would enable cutting into wood that size. The only thing better than the fact that Vanderhoof's can do almost everything (in my experience), is the owner's genuinely helpful disposition and interest in helping people/solving their problems--an increasingly rare quality to see as more and more 'mom and pop' shops disappear. I feel so fortunate to live in a town that seems to be holding on to as many of them as possible. read more

This is a great hardware store. So nice to purchase a single item when most places only sell in multiple bags which never get used.
