Scott and team not only know this business they are committed to serving. I've shared earlier stories and here is another. This past weekend I brought in a pair of garden shears I thought I'd lost and it turned out I left them in the garden all fall and winter. They were rusted beyond recognition and I was so embarrassed to bring them to Scott to see what was possible. Scott smiled as I showed him my buried treasure and asked if I had a few minutes to wait. With that he disappeared into his workshop with the rusted shears. Not even 10 minutes later Scott reappears with an even bigger smile. The shears are good as new and we both wish we had a before picture ( see the after picture below). So there we have it friends. Another memorable moment in my Vanderhoof Hardware journey. They are kids working a first job, and I see a lot of people (both in the store and on Yelp) mistake inexperience with rudeness. Selection is good for a local place, though more niche items may require a trip to a larger place. Importantly, they do not carry much of anything in terms of wood and lumber, though they have a decent power tool section, including Craftsman, Milwaukee, and Stihl. Painting, plumbing, hand tools, grilling, house care, yard care, and screws are examples of the areas they cover pretty well. Value is good as well, matching or beating that of places like Lowes or HD, and Ace is a local mainstay.

I called ahead for an item to ensure it was in stock, and was assured they had them "in the back"; when I arrived and asked the first person I encountered he seemed put out and told me I must have spoken to someone else; a second person said he'd been the one to speak with me (a 5'1 not-fit-looking woman in my 60's) and that the 6' ladder I was hoping to pick up was at the back of the store. No one offered to help me retrieve it (a tight corner and tricky to get it out and up to the front), nor to help me get it out to my car despite the fact I was obviously struggling. I also asked about sanding materials (blocks), and was shown sanding paper and disks, and then (after repeating my request for blocks), had them pointed out to me - all hung way above my reach. Again, no offer of assistance, or ability to answer my questions about the blocks. Every other Ace I've ever been to is staffed by helpful, knowledgeable folks. This was disappointing. At least I got my ladder at a good sale price, but doubt I'd ever return.
