Be aware that online store deals and in-store deals are not the same. When you order online the merchandise does not come from your store. I found a snowblower online that had free delivery as a current promotion. I bought it from the store but they were not offering free delivery. If I had purchased it online it would have been shipped from a warehouse somewhere with free delivery. read more

Thay were horrible and stole my money... I had a 20% coupon and a $5 birthday coupon. I bought somethings and used my coupons. I noticed i get the 20% off and the manager that coupon was for another store, didn,t you see the name! He yelled at me... the guy who checked me out never sais a thing and he ripped the coupon up and through it in the trash instead of telling me i can,t use and he ripped it up so i couldn,t use it all! So i said i want to return the items and could i have my coupons back. They dug the 20% out of the trash and the manger REFUSED TO GIVE ME MY $5 COUPON BACK... Easy to find electrical items, but then finding yourself in a checkout line reminiscent of the old (now defunct) K-Mart. Finally you get to an open register, and offer to pay cash (it's a small item). Nope, this register doesn't take cash, you have to wait for the cash register to clear the customer- next please. You try to shop local, you try to help businesses reduce credit card charges, and you get refused- or told to go somehwere else? read more

Sometimes helpful, but it seems like every time I go to this store (quite a bit because of the convenience) when asked questions staff gives an attitude and is not very helpful - I'd say about 80% of the time. Strikes me as a bad attitude trickling down from management. Not sure why I expect different, but then again Ace is supposed to be the "helpful place". I got very upset with their repair shop and felt CHEATED too. Two weeks ago, I dropped my Stihl chainsaw at their shop to check-up and expected a phone call for an estimate. One week later, I got a call saying my chainsaw was repaired, including carburetor cleaning and lubricating some other components, which total cost 121dollars. I was offended as I did not authorize the repair, and to my knowledge that was illegal. I wanted to speak to their manager and no one called me for one week. I finally went to the shop for an explanation, and they changed their story saying my Chainsaw was not repaired (Aha?!), and ask me about $189 if I wanted to do it. I end-up brought it back in a box (as it was dissembled) and not being informed what was wrong with my chainsaw. At the end, no one gave me either an explanation about that annoying phone call nor apologize. It seems to be their style based on another review. I have been a member of this local shop for years... but won't be anymore. read more

Definitely surprised this place is still open, just imagine cvs with hardware- but less helpful. Your better off at advanced auto parts for a tool if you need one, especially since this place closes at 5 when everybody who would need something shows up at 5:30-6, because that's when everyone gets out of work. A hardware store SHOULD be open till at least 8- I don't know what the problem is but this is the only hardware store I know that closes at the same time as a bank, and you can be sure that you'll receive help on 10% of the time. They would get so much more business if they weren't so frugal about the time they open and close, just too big an inconvenience. read more

I've been to this store probably 50 times. One time I had a fantastic experience with an upbeat guy in the paint section. Probably 50% of the time though I leave wishing I had not gone. The staff are generally uninterested in helping and sometimes they are rude. If it wasn't 15 minutes closer to me than any other hardware store, I would never go. Nice birds though. read more

Items often out of stock - empty areas and hooks on shelves, items not priced. A few staff are OK, but most are rude or act put-out if you ask them a question. I dropped a fire extinguisher off for recharging - two weeks later it was still sitting on the counter and they hadn't bothered to check with the contractor to see why it hadn't been picked up. read more

Wanted to try out colors to paint my daughters' bedrooms. Picked two colors and sheen and asked about smallest size available (hint, hint, so that one can try them out before investing in larger quantities) and was told that quart size was smallest, just to find out that for a quarter of the price you can get samples - after the fact. Called back and was told that IN THAT SHEEN it was the smallest size. Technically correct? Yes. Technically correct does not make good customer service. Why would I buy a quart to paint a whole room? This is what it should have been like: "Sir, I understand that you want this color in sheen, but if you just want to see if your daughters like the colors you may want to try samples, even though the finish may look a bit different. What do you think?" Disappointing - and no offer to address/fix the situation. After 12 years of coming here I may want to give Aubuchon a try. read more

They are close so I go sometimes but the hours are terrible, the cashiers are rude teenagers, and the prices are high. Well stocked, orderly shelves. Seasonal is always in stock, or they will order it for you. Staff is awesome, friendly, helpful. Even if we don't really need anything, it's interesting to see what's new. They stock many items that would take me too long to search for in the big box stores. They usually have what I'm looking for, as long as it is something common. More than once I looked for something, they didn't have it, and I had to go to Lowe's. Prices are high. For example, a hose cart at Lowe's is $89. The same one at Ace is $139. Ace is better for sourcing that nut or bolt that you need to finish up a project. Or bird feed. For some reason they have a nearly endless selection of bird feed. I get the suet "Party Mix." Chicks dig it. Haha. The staff is...meh. Ironically, it is the young kids that work there that are the most helpful and pleasant. The day crew are mostly older folks who seem like they don't want to be bothered with annoying customers. read more

Surprised to read poor reviews. We recently moved to Acton, and I have had a great experience over the last two plus months. The paint shop is excellent and knowlegable - you can tell they deal with the pros. As is typical for Ace's, they are incredibly well stocked on the little items - that one screw, or electrical item you need saves you! UPDATE: This Ace is dog friendly. As in, you can bring your dog in. Awesome. Your first impression might be a little bleak - it feels kind of like Kmart - too bright, kinda old.. and birds are chirping all over the store. Luckily its actually a great hardware store. The kind of "everything you need" place - and a very solid paint department. I find myself here more often than I can believe - from lawn care to electrical to paint to cleaning supplies.. even to grilling. They have a pretty nice selection of charcoal and wood chips. The staff is helpful and friendly. I enjoyed my last visit to grab some ceiling paint. After a couple of questions, they readily mixed my paint, even if I didn't plan to use it yet.. offered up stirrers, and the kid at the checkout even gave me a paint key (the opener thing) - all without any asking on my behalf. Pretty cool. My only complaint.. is they close way too early on Sundays. I'm usually elbows deep and under supplied in some project at the end of a weekend, only to realize I either have to sprint to Ace, or they closed already. And - sign up for the Rewards thingie. I get $5 coupons all the time, and really don't spend *that* much money to get them. read more

My husband called with a question and to make sure they had the parts for our gas grill. We have shopped in this store for over 30 years. He was met with a very rude Associate who let him know that they were going to be very busy and couldn't give him much attention. His attitude was as far away from customer oriented as one could get. My husband then called a competing hardware store and was graciously and generously helped on the phone and then in person. That will now be our "go to" hardware store. read more

All I needed were some washer hoses - I was in a bit of a hurry as I had someone at my house repairing my washer and wanted him to replace the hoses before he left. I asked where the hoses were: "oh somewhere in the back corner. Third aisle from the end... no, second aisle... somewhere back there." So I go to both of these aisles and cannot find the hoses. There is another worker back there so I asked him where they were. He quickly pointed me back to the front of the store. As I started walking back to the front he realized he made a mistake ("oh no those are garden hoses") and brought me to another aisle, pointed at the hoses, and quickly walked away. I was a bit confused - I needed a 3/4" braided hose and found it but the bar code sticker said 3/8" even though elsewhere on the package it said 3/4". I looked at the hoses for awhile to make sure I wasn't missing something, then proceed with these hoses to the front. There are 3 workers all having a chat by the register so I mention my confusion and ask for clarification. One of the workers looks at me but says nothing. Finally, another guy grabs the bag with the hoses, feels the hoses for about 15 seconds, and then says, "yeah these must be the right ones." Boy I felt bad for bothering all these workers to help me... granted, I was the only customer in the store, but they wanted to chat and walk around the store in peace. Looking for some hoses, I met some hosers. read more

My favorite hardware store. Very friendly and helpful staff. They have a wide variety of merchandise and their prices are reasonable.

The bottom line is I felt cheated. After a few attempts and several phone calls to find out what happened or where my leaf blower was that I dropped off for repair. I got to speaking to a manager that informed me that the engine was blown and it sat there when no one came to pick it up they threw it out. Disappointed to never see it again and have them for days, scrambling to find the 'sub contractor' who attempted to repair it only to find they through it out. Not happy. I would have taken it somewhere else to get a second opinion and or thrown it out myself. I think they lost it and said it was broken because it was a year old. I felt cheated and got no sympathy. Nothing. In fact they made me feel like this was ordinary and not to mention it. I never got any phone calls for the leaf blower or my chainsaw that I dropped off. I have phone records and never got any calls. In fact I had called them and they said it wasn't finished. If they take your stuff to repair they should at least let the customer decide what to do with it broken or otherwise. read more

Excellent customer service, always very helpful! Been going there for years. It's really nice because you don't have to drive all the way to Palmdale/Lancaster to either go to Lowe's or Home Depot. Moreover, if they don't have an item or service, they will tell you where to get it locally which has saved me a lot of searching. Brought a chain saw in for repair. Was told it would take 1-2 weeks. It took 6 weeks. During those 6 weeks, I called Ace repeatedly to find out what was going on. I was told twice that they did not know, but would find out and call me. No one called. When the unit finally was repaired and I picked it up, the manager of the store could not bring himself to apologize or act contrite in any way. I was delivered the saw in the back of the store; when I was given it by the manager I explicitly asked if all the documents needed to pay for the repair (payment occurs up front at the store) were with the unit; he assured me they were. When I got to the front of store, there was no paperwork for the cashier and the cashier had to call for the manager. Again, no apology. The store is littered with sheer incompetence coupled with no desire to manage customer expectations. These folks should not be working in a customer-facing environment. read more

This place has saved my goat on many occassions. Really good staff, loads of them and very knowledgeable. Put off much of the Christmas shopping that had to be done by actually walking into a store which had been eliminated by my incredilby talented and lazy ability to shop on line. But I wanted to get (KW) the oldest and her boyfriend (baked stuff) a Weber grill (charcoal) as i had found on line some unique gifts that would match up to this grill. Plus they have become tailgating experts and I now need to pace the torch and simply enjoy the gameday bloody mary versus standing over a grill and turning the ribs. So of course, the words I don't want to hear "we are sold out!" Oh no...visions of disappointment similar to Ralphie as the Red Ryder might not happen!" But " we can get you one in two days." The 23rd of December. Last minute me, wow not bad I was thinking of wrapping a pictue of the 22.5" Webber Gold. There she is on the 23rd and "Ralphie will be happy!" Well, they have just about everything, bird feeders (bought two), Mario Batali (sp) cookware, bought some of that, salt (yup), shovel (two), Christmas lights (just in case), wrapping paper (always need that), light bulbs (for the overpriced kitchen), forgot the hammer and have to go back this weekend. Good spot...very large....good prices and did I tell they sell charcoal 12 months a year? The good stuff......the cowboy stuff. read more

I have to say that this hardware store is tops for a local small business. I have an Ace Hardware within walking distance from my home. I choose to drive to Acton because of the service you get from the staff. If I ask a question, they don't say it's not my department. If they can not give me an answer, they take the time and find someone in the store that can. If they don't have an item I am looking for, they usually say that they can order it or, they send you to another place that might have it. These guys do things right. The prices are higher than the big chain stores but, the added price is well worth the service you get. read more

We've only been in Acton 8 months, and I've been here at least a dozen times. They have everything I've needed so far except raw materials and tool rentals. It's much easier to find things than at a Home Depot or Lowes. It is more expensive, but if I have the time to go to one of the giant stores I generally have the time to just order the item online and wait for delivery anyway. The customer service is excellent if you get the right person, but that can be dicey when they're busy. It's not that I've ever encountered anyone who didn't want to help, but the level of knowledge is definitely variable. Also, if you leave something with them to be sharpened, expect a two-week turn-around and don't expect that you will actually get a call when it's ready. read more

I shop here fairly often as it's close and a pretty decent hardware store, although of course it's mostly more expensive then the big stores, which I expect. So I purchased a 30lb propane tank here the other day - less common than 20s, but the website said they were in stock and it was convenient. I went to the back and asked someone if they really had them and the date on the tanks, and was told they had 2 dated 1/17 or 4/17. In hindsight, they probably didn't actually know or check, I'm guessing those were probably the dates on shipments of tanks they'd gotten this year and they assumed. Unfortunately I took his word for it. When I got home I realized the tank was dated 8/16 - left over from last year so basically we lose a season of use (it's intended for a firepit.) My husband returned to the store a few days later thinking he would buy their other tank since he wanted to get an extra sometime anyway - assuming they would discount both appropriately because they were last years tanks. But no - they would take it back, but no discount on the first one, or the second - for a 30lb the price was the price. (Implying he would care if it was a 20?) Whether they would also refund the fill, since I also had it filled there, I don't know. I haven't decided yet if I'm hauling it back. Seems shortsighted to me, it would have been the perfect opportunity for him to clear out his old stock. So forget that, I can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot cheaper. This was my regular hardware store but they've lost a customer. read more

I go out of my way to shop at Acton Hardware for everything I can get there because of the (1) terrifically helpful staff (SO patient with the clueless) (2) great selection of quality stuff so I don't have to guess what is going to last more than 3 months as I do at Home Depot et al. This includes housewares, not just tools and nails. Essentially, if I know I need to solve a house issue but don't know what to do, 9 of 10 times they will be able to help and that's worth the extra miles to me. Updated Summer 2016: All still true, and seems even more remarkable as the rest of commerce gets more and more robotic. read more

I would much rather support this local Hardware store than one of the big box chains. They always have someone up front welcoming customers asking if you need anything. They usually have everything I'm looking for, though if you're looking for any lumber at all, go elsewhere. I like going in this store to browse - lots of cute kitchen items but they are a bit pricey. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is because every time I go in to get a key cut (they do it in the back of the store), I get a teenager who either isn't careful enough or sufficiently trained because my keys have never worked properly! Had keys cut there on two separate occasions that I have to struggle with to open the door. I know its something little, but very frustrating nonetheless. read more
