It's always been my first stop once I get that "to do" list. I'm not opposed to big box stores. They obviously can carry a greater inventory. But please shop your local merchant first. Do you really want to drive 20 minutes, park a football field away, spend another 20 minutes hunting down your drywall anchors, painters tape, and toilet flush valve, only to have the security alarm go off when you leave?

So the store manager passed my information on to John Wheatley the store owner. He started texting me around 7AM on a Saturday morning and refused to schedule a convenient time didn't give his name or any context. Just said.. "hey I need to come look at your grill". When John came on into my property and was condescending about the state of my grill and suggested that I get a new one before even opening it (the only issue is that I have been unable to order the typical replacement parts).The manager's rude tone was unacceptable. Someone comes over and asks you what you need. You say it. They find it - or convince you to get something CHEAPER and BETTER and then ring you up and you leave. If you want a scavenger hunt... go to Lowe's. One year they even trimmed the handle on a rake for our toddler so he could "help" with lawn care. No charge. Love it! Apple Stores get all that press for "on the floor" customer attention. Fells True Value appears to have invented that model.

Driving by the front door made me think it was just a nice little office, but if you drive around the back it is full of everything you need. Compared to what most people probably come here for, my need was pretty small: three pieces of plywood each ranging from 4 to 6'. I dragged in an existing piece so I could explain what I was trying to do, and Bryan (almost positive that was his name) took me out back to suggest a few things. Because my toolbox at home is limited to a few screwdrivers, hammer and small hand saw he cut the three boards for me and they were the perfect sizes. I'm fascinated by places that are full of things I don't know anything about, so while he did the cutting I checked out all of the various types/sizes of wood and enjoyed how nice the place smelled. Forget Home Depot and just drive a few blocks over here!

They have a variety of Benjamin Moore samples which are super helpful and inexpensive when you want to try out paints. Also, the sales guy let me borrow the big color deck to take home w/ me. They special ordered me a color I wanted to test and have been nothing but helpful. Also, I was told their is a color specialist there every Wednesday and every other Saturday.

Overall Benjamin Moore paint is excellent and my painters applied it beautifully to our house. People that walk by really like the colors and a recent unsolicited offer for my house based on the curb appeal (they didn't see the inside) is another testament to the look of a well done Benjamin Moore paint job. It's the former E G Barker Lumber, same phone number, but I'm new in town so I didn't know them.)

Staff is generally experienced, knowledgeable and service oriented. Their prices are fair, although admittedly tend to be slightly higher than the big box stores. However, their sales and promotions are solid and worthwhile. In addition, I've found the Ace store brand hand tools and other products to be an excellent value for the price, especially when on sale. The hand tools carry a lifetime warranty, and Ace branded items like painter's caulk and spray paint have also proven their worth. We've been working on a fixer-upper for the last three years, and have become intimately familiar with all the hardware stores, big box stores, and lumberyards in the area. While it is not the place for building materials or very specialized items, Rocky's is a great place for general home repair and maintenance items, good advice and great service. Also, if you need something they don't carry, you can order from acehardware.com and have it delivered free to Rocky's, which can work out great for heavier/bulkier items.
