As I'm writing this review I spot a review berating the woman I am writing to commend. Cheryl in Reading was knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant. I knew what I wanted when I went in so I wasn't asking for a lot of help - just reassurance that the brand I chose was reliable. She did her sales job v effectively, but when I said I wasn't interested, she didn't push. She saved me a little $ and offered good advice. I would go back to Home Depot to buy appliances based on my experience with Cheryl. (Sad to say that my experience over the years with many of the HD emplyees was not good. Lots of people who can't be bothered or don't know more than I do. This time I dealt with 2 sales women. - both were great. Perhaps HD needs to hire more women?) Two final points: why are the ratings on Yelp so low while Google reviews are glowing. For the same store?? Finally I had a hard time reaching Reading, so after 6 hours of trying I googled Home Depot Customer Service. I called an 800 number and was told my account had a red flag. I said I just got the card 6 hours ago. Person on the other end was nasty and insisted that my info was compromised. She spoke with a very thick Indian accent and was so rude I hung up. Called right back - guy with a veyr thick Indian accent ansered the call and when I told him I suspected they were a scam and not HD he said "then why don't you hang up." I did. My GC picked up several items but didn't check the total, so he never picked up the tiles. It stay in the warehouse for 45 days and one of the staff there remember seeing my name. So I picked it up 45 days later! Great customer service and thanks for your help guys. read more

So all the negative reviews are true. How do I know? Because I just experienced it myself. They have untrained staff giving you wrong information. When you come back and complain about it, you become this random guy with attitude. They gave me store credits to make up for the "incident", so I decided to just let it go until I overheard them joking and laughing amongst themselves about the situation. So I guess it's my fault that I'm not understanding enough of their "situation", and complained for something that I was told by their own staff. I ended up returning that store credit and the lady was looking at me as if I'm crazy. "So what do you want?" was the exact wording I got. I wasn't able to find a power tool that was advertised in the flyer. A sales associate could not find it originally but ensured that the tool was found. He was helping me every step of the way. The sales associates in this store are always so helpful. Great store with great service. read more

I would give ZERO stars if I could. We bought a 50gal Hybrid Water Heater at the start of February. We planned on contacting our plumber once the unit was delivered to our home. Turns out, Home Depot farms out their deliveries to a contract delivery service. The delivery came the day after the purchase, but what a disaster. We got no notification of any sort that the delivery was on the way, even though the salesman at Home Depot assured us we'd get a call half an hour before delivery. The truck came and they put the unit out in our driveway, and the box was missing the entire lid and interior cushioning. Nobody knocked on our door, or rang our doorbell. We discovered the delivery by chance, when we went out to collect our mail. We opened our garage door and pushed the heater into the garage. We called the plumber to let him know the unit was delivered, and we made an appointment with him for the installation. When he came to our house a few days later, he opened the front of the box with cutters to remove the heater. He discovered that the entire top of the heater was badly bent, as if the unit had something really heavy land on it. The plumber refused to install it, because the damage was too close to the heating unit for him to think it wouldn't cause problems. We went to Home Depot after the plumber packed up and left, and explained the problem to a sales clerk. That person took copious notes and then arranged for a swap-out of the damaged unit for another heater (same make/model), scheduled for today (2/13). This morning (2/13), I walked out to my breezeway at 8:30 am, and discovered that the replacement unit had been delivered in our driveway, and AGAIN, nobody called to let us know it was coming, or even bothered to ring the doorbell to let us know it arrived. I called my 86-year-old husband to come outside, to help me (I am 71) push the heater box into our garage. Before we went back inside the house, we closed the garage door. I took the additional step of writing on a piece of white paper in black marker: "This is a NEW unit, delivered today (2/13). DO NOT TOUCH!!" and after taping it to the side of the box, went back inside. An hour later, my husband called me out to the garage. Somebody, presumably the delivery service driver, had opened our garage, taken away the damaged unit (including the 3/4 of the box that remained intact), and left the rest of the mess from the unboxing scattered all over the garage floor. And once again, no notification of pending arrival, no knocking on doors, and no doorbell ringing. They just went into the garage on their own and removed the unit without a word to either of us. I had a long conversation with an Assistant Manager at Home Depot immediately after this, and the manager apologized for the way the exchange was handled. The manager also said that they would contact the delivery service to find out why this had gone as bad as it did. The manager of the delivery company then called me, and said, "You don't have to worry about anything -- we took the old unit back to the store!" The Home Depot Assistant Manager called me back, and told me that the delivery company manager told her that when they came back for the damaged unit, "someone" had opened the garage for them and told them to take it. I assured the Home Depot manager that the delivery manager was lying to them. I told her she'd better get off the phone and pray to the heavens that when I open up the new box, that the unit inside it is perfect, or there really would be hell to pay. This gyration of buying a water heater, arranging for energy saving rebates, getting delivery, getting a replacement and removal, has taken up the better part of three days. I honestly don't know what Home Depot thinks "customer service" is, but I know for a fact that what we experienced was nothing but shoddy service and intense aggravation. read more

Cheryl in appliances is extremely rude to customers. I witnessed her absolutely berate an older couple who had questions about appliances they purchased. I couldn't believe an employee would behave that way to PAYING customers. Whispering about them to a coworker while everyone was in earshot, rolling eyes, huffing and puffing and talking down to this couple who had valid questions. If I was management I would make sure this woman was NEVER on the floor speaking with the public. Extremely disappointing to see. Would not go back there and I privately advised that couple to complain/never go back. Couple told me they paid over 8k in appliances for a new house and came back with questions and that's how they were treated. Appalling. read more

I bought a kiddie smoke/co2 smoke alarm from the Reading store. The product was defective and I tried returning it hours later with my receipt. Apparently, the item sold to me had a 2022 date on it. The manager eventually credited me my money but not before the customer service rep accused me of trying to return a 2 year old alarm, and also sarcastically asking me if I knew how to read. This should serve as a warning to anyone buying a smoke/co2 alarm at that store. read more

I have spent an incredible amount of money at the Home Depot over the last four years. This is because I have renovated four properties that I have owned during that time. Most of the time it's been a good experience, meaning I have made a purchase and that's the end of it. Recently, I purchased a Mikita tool set, and paid for it with a Master Card credit card. I then made arrangements to return the tool kit (because it wasn't the one I ordered), by having them pick up the return at my house. They were supposed to pick it up on December 7th, but didn't. I called, and when they investigated why it wasn't picked up, they said they went to the wrong address. They said my address showed up as an apartment building (I live in a totally residential neighborhood of single family homes). Anyway, they said they would correct the mistake and pick it up the next day, which they did. Two days later on December 10th they sent an email saying that my return was picked up, and that they were already working on "processing the return", and that I should see a credit by my credit card within ten business days. On December 26th I called to tell them I had not seen a credit! They checked into it and sent me the same stupid email, that my return was processed, but could take another ten business days until I saw a credit. This is BS, and unacceptable! read more

All the bad things you've heard about The Home Depot and it's appliance delivery and installation contractor are true. I purchased an over the range microwave online with delivery, installation, and haul away. I've had 2 installed before (Lowe's and Best Buy) and both of those installations went smoothly. It's a straightforward swap. Not this time... The installer called 40 minutes in advance, to tell me he was coming. I told him that my 79 year old father would be home to supervise. Well that was a BIG mistake... Some time later I get another call... the installer was having an issue. Both with the installation and with explaining to me what said issue was. After I asked him to repeat himself several times, I finally understood past his very very thick accent that he needed to cut into the wall to install the microwave. Well that's a first. Nobody else has had to cut into the wall before... I started asking questions... did he mean the wall next to the cabinets? Does one of the cabinets have to be moved? Do you mean the backsplash? BINGO. He wanted to cut the backsplash away an inch. Uh so do you have a diamond blade? It's GLASS tile backsplash and the right tools are required. His response? "Oh. Glass?" He told he would leave a number I had to call and have the installation rescheduled, but he would leave a mark where to cut the tile. That evening I came home and to my shock I realized the installer never did anything. The old microwave was still there. The new microwave was in a box on the floor. And there's no mark on the backsplash. I contacted homedepot.com through the website. Apparently my dad signed the document indicating that the microwave had been delivered, installed, and the old one taken away. My dad had no idea that that was what he signed. From what I can tell.... that invalids said contract with Home Depot. A contract isn't valid if you didn't understand it and my father, now quite upset and apologetic, clearly didn't understand what he signed. The installer clearly must have known what he was giving to my father to sign. He didn't leave his name because if he had I would have called the police. Home Depot's response. TOUGH. Daddy signed sooo too bad so sad. I'm stuck. NO RETURN. NO INSTALLATION. NO HAUL AWAY. Because of an installer that tricked my elderly father! I can't even try to bring it to the store - I can't move the box. I've filed complaints with the credit card company and the commonwealth of Massachusetts. And in case you were wondering... I checked the instructions. The new microwave fits. In fact, the new microwave has a wall bracket that will clear the tile by roughly half an inch. I paid someone $80 to remove the old microwave and took the attached pictures as proof (the old microwave wall bracket is what you see). I'll never shop at the Home Depot again. read more

Ordered a grill from the store. First time around they delivered a gas hook up grill and not propane, they took the grill back thankfully and ordered a new one. But we have had endless problems with this grill mostly due to assembly error. Random parts of the frame were not screwed in, the ignitor was not connected. Now we find out after using the grill fully two burners won't light. Home depot offers to order a new one or contact weber. I just want a working grill and have little faith that home depot can assemble a grill properly. I'd rather pay for a handyman to come fix home depots assembly issues than deal with home depot any more. read more

Absolute HORRID customer service. I walked in with my baby in cart, looking for baby gates. Searched aisles for someone to help me in "hardware"..... had hardware associate paged 2x, after waiting another 15 minutes, I returned to cashier and asked to speak to manager. She called him, the conversation seemed as he was hesitant to come talk to me. Waited another 5-10 mins, no manager, no hardware associate. When I went to walk out with baby, cashier was giving me attitude "I called my supervisor. You weren't in the aisle" LIE. I had waited in that aisle at least 20-30 mins for the various people paged who never showed. The "supervisor" should be ASHAMED of himself. Not to help a woman and her baby!!! We recently bought a home that had no blinds. We went to Home Depot and Joe Hayes helped us so much. We got our blinds delivered and we installed them today. They look fabulous and fit perfectly. With this being such a big purchase I'm so thankful for Joes advice and guidance. We purchased the levolor light filtering for down stairs and took darkening for upstairs. This review is about Home Depot but mainly about Samsung. We bought a very expensive refrigerator and even more expensive stove. In a little over 3 years, both appliances have failed. Of course conveniently the warrantees have expired. Samsung doesn't even answer or care. Buyers please believe that is not quality products and certainly not worth the high ticket price. Each & every time I shop in this store I'm greeted & asked if I need help finding something. If the associate who asked me isn't able to locate what I'm looking for they find someone who will. I've never had an issue with bad customer service. There have been times when the store didn't have the exact item I needed. But I realized that doing an online search will point me to the store that does. Recently I started locating & buying everything online with in store pickup. This way of shopping for me couldn't be more convenient. I order what I need, pay, and pick up at the store for FREE. Absolutley no time wasted in the aisles looking for something I prob wouldn't be able to find without help...How cool is that! read more

Do not, I repeat do not order anything from Home Depot through their website!! I am trying to get a patio set and have been on the phone on hold and repeating what is going on with multiple Customer Service people. Basically, I have been on the phone for at least 4 hours and been confined to my house for four days because they said they would be here (and weren't) and their delivery window is 6 am to 8 pm! How pathetic for a major national retailer!! I ordered the patio set and they delivered the wrong item. I have been trying to have them pick it up to return, but it still is here after a week! I have had to order the set I want at least four times because even though it says they have it, the source eventually says they don't have it and then cancel the order, but they don't cancel the charge! I have been charged four times for the item (still don't have one), so I'm dealing with getting that straightened out! So, after a week, I'm still trying to get the item I want, trying to return the item they delivered incorrectly, and trying to get my charges straightened out! I just got a text saying my delivery will be here today between 6 am and 8 pm. It's now 2 pm!!! Why didn't they update the text to say between 2 pm and 8 pm? Oh yeah, they have the worst online system on the planet!!!! They were also going to pick up the wrong item today and they told me they would call. They didn't show up, and when I called they said the truck drove by and the box wasn't out so they left. So much for the call or stopping to ring the bell. I usually have no issues with Home Depot everyone is usually so friendly today I just wanted to order a couple items and have them curbside. I placed an order for some reason one of the items decided to ship to my home instead, the whole time in the car I tried to cancel it but it said there was an error everytime. I thought maybe it was a bad connection so I ordered another one straight away to have curbside that the employees could Bring it out at one time and not be a hassle. Well I guess that was a hassle for them. My one part of the order came out and that's fine the gentlemen asked me to fill out a survey blah blah blah, I waited for the other item and when the gentlemen came out he asked if I ordered something else and then said " oh ok cus your messing everyone up inside" ahh OHHHHHH OKAY good to know guy. Not to Mention when he brought the first item out He was going on and on about me filling out a survey to get " his numbers up" which is fine with Me. So while I was waiting I did the survey gave him all great reviews and excellent feedback. Then came out to tell me I was messing everyone up inside and I was really nice ( don't like to make a scene or start an issue when it was my fault to begin with) but he was nice and said next time I'm in the store to ask for him and I would get a Discount, which is super nice of him but that's weird and I'm not the type of person to just go up and say " you probably don't remember me but you owe me a discount" hahaha like anyone would believe someone on their word. I just wish he kind of thought instead of Offering a discount in the future maybe just tried to help with getting the item I wanted curbside. I ended up leaving and going to another store so I wouldn't be quite a bother. ( I did tell him the issue I had that I ordered the item and it accidentally shipped to home instead) and he then mentioned the discount and walked away and said " hahaha just trying to get my numbers up" ok dude I get it. Thanks for trying. Then after that,got on Home Depot support tried to Cancel the ship to home item and " You can no longer cancel because it's been more than 30 minutes" like OMG. For real! I've been trying to do it since I played the order. Whatever. I'm done. I'm not Gonna be dramatic and say " I'll never go to home Depot again" just wanted to give them some insight. We went in to exchange a new propane tank and we called before to make sure they had them and the person on the line said sure enough they did. So we went to home depot and a man told us we had to pay then go out back and someone would meet us there so we paid and went out back. 10 mins..15 mins... no one met us out back so we called up and guess what... they ran out of propane we got jipped read more

I'm upgrading my original rating because I have recently had a few decent experiences with this particular store. I don't know if I just happen to catch people in a good mood or when it wasn't quite as busy... But it restored my faith like 20%. I wish there were a way of giving them 2 1/2 stars instead of only two or three. I just can't stand how employees dig their heels in and stand up for corporate when you're not even protecting your position at the store. Doesn't even involve you guys... just be a customer service rep and help the customer as best as possible and don't give any lip out like any of us have control over annoying return. Home Depot's return policy as a whole has drastically changed. I know they're trying to prevent retail loss, but there's got to be some sort of a back up way of returning things if you've recently lost or had your card stolen. Anyways, got to return 90% of my stuff and the rest of it I guess I'll just throw away. Oh and one more sidenote... Most of the items I was returning or plastic fittings for PVC in ground and outdoor piping. The customer service rep at the return counter was pissed with me because the fittings had some dirt and dust on them... He's like I don't find this process difficult for customers at all. In fact you're lucky I'm returning these filthy products. So I said dude these are outdoor inground fittings that are found in the garden department outside left in the elements and rain at Home Depot... so eat it. read more

I would give this store a zero rating if it was possible. On Feb 12 we ordered our carpet runner through this store. As of April 1, we have had 3 of the wrong carpets quoted, a call that our carpet was discontinued, a call that the carpet we chose won't fit our stairs... all after a rep "checks and guarantees" we are all set. We have gone into the store weekly. Spoken to several managers and " carpet specialists... all who tell us they will take care of these issues. We paid for the original carpet and have yet to get our refund and yesterday we had people show up out of the blue for the 3rd time to measure for our carpet ( this was done 6 weeks ago). Nobody in this store communicates. Nobody has done what they said they would. Managers don't reply or even attempt to correct these issues. We will never shop in this store again! read more

The management team at the Reading Home Depot, specifically Eric, Jessica and Sharon, were incredibly helpful to me after a delivery driver essentially tricked me into accepting the wrong appliance this morning. They handled all the difficulties for dealing with the vendor and the driver and are in the process of getting me my money back and the correct appliance delivered next week. They were kind and reassuring and what started off as a confusing and terrible day ended up with everything being alright thanks to their hard work to fix it. I would highly recommended this location because I'm sure their efforts are a reflection of the kind of store they run. read more

I ordered a fridge online. I was charged extra for a water line even tho the fridge I ordered doesn't come with an ice maker. I made an extra phone call to be sure that the extra charge was removed and that the "reversible door" touted on HD's website would be hinged on the left. The nice lady (she really was nice) said she'd take care of it, no problem. When the men delivered the fridge, it was hinged on the right and they said they could not switch it because I hadn't paid extra for that. They also would not fix the leveling feet on the bottom of the fridge. I cannot find anywhere on the website that says there's an extra charge for switching the hinges and leveling the appliance. In sum, the website is not as accurate as it should be, and good luck trying to find a responsible human being to get things straightened out if you have a problem! read more

My wife and I went to The Home Depot to pick up an assortment of things. We must have looked lost when an employee named Victor approached us and asked if we needed help. Victor was great! He guided us through the store until we had everything we needed. If the other employees are half as good as Victor, this Home Depot is the place to shop. read more

Online ordering is the way to go. I placed an online order yesterday for a few items including a brand new leaf blower. I was kept informed and updated via text message and email. I went in today with the greatest of ease for pick up at the customer service / online order pick up desk. The staff were friendly and informative. Very poor service. I placed an order online and the Reading store did delivery. They delivered incomplete order and they kept arguing that they delivered order completely. The driver are so ignorant. They lack commonsense. The driver did not bring any paper work with him when delivered the items. I called the store and manger Jim refused to believe that I got incomplete order delivery. I had to raise my voice. He threated me that he will cancel my future orders. This manger is a big liar. Why would I call the store if I received complete order. They have a long way to go to learn about delivery. This store needs management change badly!! read more

Since recently buying a house in Stoneham I have been to this Home Depot (HD) probably 10-20 times and have interacted with a number of departments - here's a rundown of these hit or miss visits: GARDEN: Been here the most for top soil, grass, hoses, and other yard tools. The people here tend to be the friendliest and surprisingly knowledgeable on where I can find other random household items within the store (to the isle accurate). I have not gotten any plants from here but the prices seem a touch high and quality seems slightly below avg 4.5/5 PAINT: Mostly younger staff working the paint section. They seem to do their jobs well and are polite enough but of the 3-4 staff from this section I've worked with, all seemed very unhappy. Also the paint quality of the Beahr Marquee was awesome so...4/5 LUMBER: can be hard to wave an employee down in the section but when I did he was wicked helpful and friendly 4/5 APPLIANCES: We just bought a gas range here and was a bit annoyed at how difficult it was to get a floor rep to help with the transaction (after telling a worker we knew the unit we wanted and wished to buy it took like 15 mins to get a rep). The floor reps in this department all seem to be grumpy older men. Nice enough and prices were decent though 2.5/5 RENTALS: Only came to this section once. Desk worker was rude as hell and prices were outrageous (in my case it would be 60-70% of cost to buy a similar appliance). Hard pass 1/5 Overall this is one of the better HDs I've been to, but obviously has different quality of service in different departments. Also crowds are like 4-5x worse on weekends, I like to come mid week. read more

I placed an order online for curbside pickup. The order was for 3 of the same item. When I got there for curbside pickup ( which was efficient) I was given only one item. Apparently there weren't 3 in stock, so they cancelled the other 2 without notifying me. If I'd known this, I would have cancelled the order and gone to a different store. Very poor customer service, an email, text or phone call notifying me seems like a reasonable service. read more

Not the best and not the worst. They have a lot of stuff and the store is huge. So if I need to run out and get several different things for a weekend of work on the home and yard, then this is probably the best place to go. If I want advice on how to do something, this isn't the best place. Case in point: I bought a bunch of glass subway tile (elsewhere) to do my kitchen backsplash. I rented a wet saw from them and was told the universal blade would do the trick. It didn't. I went online and found a special blade was needed for cutting glass. I went back here and they didn't sell it. I ordered one online, got the job done, and returned the saw. The good thing is when I returned the saw I told him what I had learned. A month later I was in the store and noted they now sold the special blades needed. Good for them for trying to improve. The bad thing is there were 2-3 more times when I received advice that was very wrong, not just somewhat off-base. So if you need a huge selection, this is the place. If you need advice on projects that aren't that common, you're better off looking elsewhere. read more

Stay far away from this store if you are ordering any major appliance. We ordered a specific model because it could be delivered on an exact date we needed it. We tried calling the day before delivery to get haul away added. We got transferred 4x and were not able to speak with an associate to help with this minor task. Then, we get a call later that evening from someone telling us our appliance is not coming the next day and they don't know when it will. Oh, and since it's a weekend no one can help us solve this issue. In the words of the Home Depot associate, "You will just have to stay in limbo and wait and see what happens." Absolutely horrific customer service. We will never order with Home Depot again. I'd give this store 0 stars if it was an option. read more

I bought some dirt for house plants. Unfortunately it came with fungus gnats. They spread to several of my plants besides the ones I replanted. They're tough to get rid of. I may even have to throw some away. I'd never buy dirt from home depot again. read more
