The selection & value can't be topped, especially if you need cuts made. It's a service that should not be overlooked. The folks in that cutting room are talented, and have gotten me out of a jamb or two. It's also my first stop for hard and soft wood, having purchased Ash, Sapele, and Maple for several projects over the years. I'm not a cabinet maker or a finish carpenter, nor do I pretend to be, but they'll treat you great, and give you advice just the same over there. You only need to visit once to understand that it's the people that work there that bring you back, not just the wood. And like the person who told me, I get a little smile across my face when I tell someone else about them for the first time.

After about a dozen 1-hour round trips to Home Depot, a neighbor recommended Gilbert & Cole for painting supplies and all the little items that we needed to complete the projects. I tried the local Ace Hardware in town to save the drive to Home Depot, but everything was so overpriced I couldn't bear. I gave Gilbert & Cole a try. On my first trip, I saved $2 on the paint brushes I previously bought at Ace and they were the same price as Home Depot. The store is not as large as HD or Lowe's, but they have all the basics if you realize you need something in the middle of a project. The great service and convenience were additional positives that made the overall experience exactly what you look for at your local hardware store. It just feels better to support a local "small" business. Two thumbs up!

First I am not a novice carpenter, I needed more than 40 pieces of PT lumber and other materials. When I checked the stock, the pieces in the bens were what everyone else didn't want, in rough shape, and in low numbers. I was told they would hand select from a new pallet and that their workers are "very good" at avoiding the bad pieces. I was assured that workers would select pieces that were straight, with at least one clean edge and no large cracks. What did I get, about a third of the pieces were the rejects, not what was promised. I would have done better at Home Depot!

I found Sterritt Lumber after wasting far too much time at Home Depot, and was surprised I had…read moredriven by here dozens of times and never realized they had all of this great lumber! Driving by the front door made me think it was just a nice little office, but if you drive around the back it is full of everything you need. Compared to what most people probably come here for, my need was pretty small: three pieces of plywood each ranging from 4 to 6'. I dragged in an existing piece so I could explain what I was trying to do, and Bryan (almost positive that was his name) took me out back to suggest a few things. Because my toolbox at home is limited to a few screwdrivers, hammer and small hand saw he cut the three boards for me and they were the perfect sizes. I'm fascinated by places that are full of things I don't know anything about, so while he did the cutting I checked out all of the various types/sizes of wood and enjoyed how nice the place smelled. Forget Home Depot and just drive a few blocks over here!

There are many different design examples and always people around to help out. Honestly, the prices are fair and definitely cheaper than Home Depot or Lowes and tons more options to choose from. my biggest issue is the team members. You constantly get bombarded with them coming up to you and asking you about things. ALL OF THE TIME. And it gets a bit aggravating when you start to realize that they aren't always there to help you, but rather to get you to sign up for things and to ensure that their own name is attached to your purchase so it helps them out personally. I once had a pushy worker come up to my cart and scan all of my items so they would have it ready at the register but I wasn't finished shopping. It didn't matter what I told him, he was going to stop me and scan everything. It's a bit of a turn-off from me wanting to keep coming back, knowing that I will be continuously bothered the whole time. I've come to the conclusion that I need to go it here KNOWING what I am looking for and ignoring those that come up to me. This all being said, the store is big, clean, tons of options, and the return policy is great!! Just need a phone number, no more receipts!

I've done little/no construction, but was getting lumber to build a bunk bed. After a little confusion (I don't know the right terms, just the sizes), someone at the counter asked me the right questions to list the type of lumber I needed; and then I picked it up without trouble in the lumber yard. I also got screws, nail plates, hinges, dowel, etc; and they have a selection of tools, and many aisles I didn't make use of. (I initially mistook "Lumber" in their name for meaning that's all they do, but it's not.)

Now let's fast forward , it is August and I still don't have them. I would call every two weeks, never would get an answer, left voicemails never a call back. My installer would call and everytime he would get a call back he would receive an email. No apologies nothing . Finally we had enough of this terrible service. I got a call in the morning from my installer and he said you need to call and give your CC # so you can get a $200 dollar refund and I will pick the parts up and install it myself. So I call and guess what no answer , but I left a vmail and guess what got a call back in two seconds which means he was sitting right next to his phone. He calls me up , no sorry no apology literally just said hi I'm ready for your CC #. I will never use this company again , Oh and I'm installing 3 more doors in my house this year and was planning on using them if it wasn't for this.
