Now it's spruced up and looks great but their prices have increased considerably. This salon is under new management and the service is terrible now. I went there for a Brazilian wax, and the women who did it kept telling me to go to another salon to have it done. She also kept telling me how much the waxing would hurt, and then tore the wax off slowly, so it would hurt me more! I was so upset and hurt. Don't go there for waxing services! When I told the woman at the reception counter what happened she said she could give me 15% off and would speak to the woman who helped me, but was very insincere. I've been going here for about 8 years because it's right next o my house. It's not a posh looking salon, but everyone there is fantastic at what they do. The owner is always there greeting you with a warm smile. Today I went there for a Mani/Pedi and Lee was helping me. She was very sweat and personable. As she was massaging my hand and shoulder, I mentioned that I get tension headaches often. She told me she does excellent massages and she wasn't kidding!!! The only reason why I took one star off is cause depending on the technician, it might not be as good but as long as you consistently book with your fave girls it's such a good price! The ladies at Westside Nail Spa are great!! They are very courteous, polite, and considerate - from adjusting the TV angle so that you can watch world cup on TV to closing the blinds for you without you even requesting it. Prices are very reasonable @ $27 per pedicure, they do a good and meticulous job, esp in removing dead skin and cuticle. The hot stone massage that comes with the pedicure is amazing. read more

This place is terrible, even by the low bar set by most Vietnamese nail salons. I had been there a lot in the past with a friend and had enjoyed the low prices. However, today was just ridiculous. My friend had wanted just a pedi, but I wanted a mani/pedi. They start out to do both my hands and nails at the same time to save time....perfect. As soon as a new customer walks through the door, she takes off to abandon my hands. Meanwhile, the girl doing my pedicure speaks no English at all, making it impossible to communicate with her (normally I wouldn't care but in a service industry, proper communication is necessary). I was trying to have fun with my girlfriend so I didn't notice until later that she didn't exfoliate my feet or file my toe nails...at all. She just worked on cuticles and then went straight to polish. This was before I had to tell her to remove the old polish right before she was about to go to town with the new polish. The girl doing my hands then comes back and tells me that she's the sister of the manager....great....nepotism employing incompetent people. They end up fixing my nails and offer me 10% off. The manager thinks 10% off of $42 is $10. I guess incompetence runs in the family... Be warned, if the manager can't do math....make sure you calculate how much you owe and don't get ripped off by these clowns. I'm never going back again. read more

Lovely new nail salon that opened up in the Oak neighborhood. This place can get really busy, so don't always count on a walk-in spot right away. You may have to wait 15 - 30 minutes if all 6 chairs are occupied for pedicures. The staff are really friendly and the prices are affordable. The service is great and efficient. I have only gotten pedicures here, but they do go the extra mile with the leg massage, sloughing of dead skin, and hot stone treatment - a fabulous bargain for $27.00. read more

I went in a week and a half ago for a mani-pedi. First thing: I made an appointment, yet their technicians were all busy when I arrived, and I had to wait 20 minutes past my appointment time. When I brought it up though, they were very apologetic. I was a first-time customer in a business that thrives on walk-in traffic, I can understand why they'd not want to turn away business because an unknown customer had made an appointment. Once I did sit down for my service, my tech was very efficient, friendly, and skilled. I was very happy with the results. She sold me on the supposedly longer-lasting gel manicure, which I did get; but then I found myself doing a lot of housework and cleaning in the next week - so now the manicure is lifting on thumbs and index fingers. My bad though for not getting rubber gloves; the manicure has held up amazingly well, considering what I've put my hands through this past week. I did a walk-in for shellac manicure and I've gotta say it was a pretty pleasant experience! My only complaint? Not a very wide selection of colours. This nail salon opened up in my neighbourhood In May (2013). In my mind, this 4 stars is actually a 5 star because West Side Nail Spa does exactly what I want it to do. But I'm trying to reflect to others that this isn't a "day spa" kind of place where everything is super fancy. So I checked it out in August before my vacation and I've been back twice (technically three times, but I'll get to that). I think that's pretty significant considering I usually only go to nail spas at most 1 or 2 times/year. In reality, this is a very nice spa. It's clean, it's comfortable, it's well lit but not too bright, and the people are kind and attentive. Sometimes, it's busy and you might think people won't come back to you while you wait for your nails to dry but inevitably they do and tell you they're still not dry which you would be wise to heed. Which brings me to why I've technically been there one extra time. Last night, I had a pedicure but I was in a hurry. I didn't wait quite long enough for my toes to dry and I banged up the polish on my big toes on my way out -- not very noticeably (and still looked exponentially better than if I had done my toes myself!). My pedicurist insisted that I come back today for her to fix it when I wasn't in such a rush. I dutifully returned, insisting that I would pay for a "polish removal/change" which is essentially what she did for 3 toes. I sat there in a massage chair, had those toes done, felt very well attended to and it took about half an hour for my toes to be dry enough to put back in my closed toed shoes - I was very willing to wait since I didn't want the same thing to happen again, and I was in no rush today. She refused to take any money for this service. Nothing, not a single cent, even in tip. That is ridiculously good customer service. Their prices are already very, very reasonable especially considering how attentive they are here. I love my hood, and I recently made the commitment to support the businesses around me by staying very close to home for everything I can within reasonable price/service. SOO RUDE!! I have been here before and they seemed nice.. but I know why -- because I was dressed how they like! Today, was just rude. I had been spending the day doing lots of cleaning etc.. so when I ran across the street (I live 5 minutes away) in my sweatshirt and jogging pants and running shoes thinking I could go in and get a pedicure, this was not what I expected. Okay, I know there is a stop light at 16 and oak but I ran across the middle of the street, oh well... the minute I walked in not only the staff, but their clientele (yes ladies I saw you) gave me the up and down look -- listen bitches, I just wanted to get a pedicure because I obviously was going to clean up and put some make up/jewelry etc. before going out tonight... why should it matter what I look like coming in?? I could see all there eyes on me as I spoke to the lady at the front counter, and the I asked how long to take and she said 45 minutes, but if I wanted a faster one (30 minutes) I could do that, but she said "it cost more money" -- no shit Sherlock, do you think I don't know that? or do you think I am poor?? SOO condescending -- especially since the ladies who work there look like they buy cheap clothes. I looked at the time and realized I didn't have a 1/2 hour to get my nails done at the end of the day anyways... but the looks followed.. wow.. sorry, I thought I was doing a good thing coming to a local place, but you know ?? these bitches and their clientele lost me... I tried to phone and got voicemail, which was full. The dragon lady who runs the place is beyond rude and that's fine if she doesn't want to make money but it's the wrong approach for returning customers. She gave me a mani on more than one occasion even though I specifically book for just a polish change and I announce it repeatedly after I arrive.
