The bacon was very big and cooked nearly perfectly (though I prefer crispy bacon), the eggs were good, and the pancakes were great. They included 3 syrups and 2 butters for this. Overall it met what I wanted and was a really good breakfast. Stopped by for breakfast this morning and had one of the best home style breakfasts I've had since I was a kid. The location reminded me of a place my grandparents took me to as a kid. The prices are beyond reasonable and the food is incredible. The entire staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Also they had dairy free powder creamer packets which was extremely surprising but also delicious. My only regret was not snagging a piece of pie for later when leaving but I did take a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie... which is bigger than my hand and super soft. It's one of those places they'll know your name and story if you go there often enough. My server suggested the salmon and it was perfect! Came during Covid, I placed an order over the phone and the lady who answered the phone today was super nice and professional! She asked me to pull up to any number slot and call them with that number. We ordered the chicken fried chicken it was amazing, very juicy and tender and perfectly seasoned, the batter was nice and golden with perfectly cooked green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy on top. Customer eating next to us threatened me with a gun for my language during a private conversation I was having with my brother. Manager chose to want to throw me out instead and disregarded what the man had threatened me with. "What a family friendly restaurant". Never had this issue at a restaurant in my life! It's not my fault the tables are so close together that you can eavesdrop on others conversations and then threaten to "blow their head off" if you don't stop. The manager is a joke! For me, Ole' South Pancake House's food is unremarkable expect for their Dutch Babies and German Pancakes. This place is similarly unremarkable save their cheesy potato casserole, which tasted homemade. Everything else was just average, from the steak and eggs, the french toast... and the oatmeal cake was way too sweet and the maple syrup watery. For a below average breakfast, it was $56 for three people. I think folks just like this place for the Texas Southern ambiance. But I won't be going again, it ain't anything special. read more

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid, growing up in Fort Worth. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience this weekend on Mother's Day celebrating my wife. We have an infant and we brought our own chair that attaches to the end of a table. When the host saw it he first asked if we needed a high chair (which sticks out in the aisle), and I said no we have our own. He said well you can't use that unless you put it inside the booth because we don't have room in the aisle. And proceeded to over explain the reason in front of all the other guests waiting, insinuating they would not seat us if we used it for our child. I explained it was actually smaller than a high chair would be and our child can try and stand up using the seat of the booth that she can't do when it's on the edge of the table putting her at risk of falling. They said they wouldn't accommodate it, so we won't be going back since they can't accommodate children and I can't recommend this as a place for young families to eat. My husband had the daily special that included meatloaf, two vegetables, and cornbread/rolls. He is a meatloaf connoisseur and he said the meatloaf was excellent so of course I had to take a bite and I agreed with him. I had the vegetable plate with three vegetables and bread. Squash casserole, macaroni and cheese, and fried okra. All three were excellent, homemade, not out of the box or a bag. The cornbread was like cake - sweet and very delicious. This restaurant used to be a great place for seniors to go and have decent food until they doubled their prices. They priced out a lot of seniors on fixed incomes. The food is the same but the prices are not. Soon after their prices went up and long-time customers fell, they did start offering Senior Discounts, but did not do much for a lot of the seniors mentioned. Now they are opened up for breakfast and lunch only. The clientele are much younger now. I wonder why a lot of the Veteran photos are few and far between. Humm... I recommend Cracker Barrel.
