We were looking for some diner food for breakfast. And came across blue mound on yelp. It is a cute little hole in the wall with huge portions, staff is friendly, Tree was a great waitress and earned all her tip as she waited on many tables but making you feel like you were her only table. I got their veggie omelet that was loaded, and my husband got a meat omelet. It was so much food we both had to get to go place. The food was tasty and came out quick. And can we talk about their desserts? OMG worth every penny, and I may or may not have eaten half of my dessert in the car on the way home. We will definitely stop by again when we are craving breakfast or lunch. read more

Place has a diner vibe. Seating was relatively quick. Feel bad for the waitress. She was getting pulled all over the place. Food wasn't too bad. Glad the chicken fried steak didn't come out of the box. The cheese burger sliders had too much mustard on it, and fries was really salty. Will try this place again. read more

Update to my original review. We have been here several times since my initial review, but today's food quality and service was a completely different experience. First time trying the chicken fried steak. It was terrible, extremely tough. We ordered onions in the hash browns that came out as long thick grilled onions, like something that might go with Salisbury steak. Originally the order was made wrong but they fixed it and stacked eggs, hash browns and gravy covered chicken fried steak all on top of each other on a small plate. We had to ask for an additional plate just to attempt to eat it. The toast was soggy and cold, butter congealed and hash browns in general were undercooked. Our waitress started out abrupt and border line rude, but that improved slightly. However at the end of the meal when she asked how everything was, we said underwhelming this visit. Her reply was at least you're honest. In addition I was charged an extra $1.28 for the onions that weren't even eaten. This quickly went from a favorite breakfast spot to a place I will probably never go to again. read more

This spot has a true hometown café vibe. We visited for breakfast and appreciated the large menu with plenty of classic options. The wait staff was attentive and friendly, even while managing a busy morning crowd. Unfortunately, the food itself left much to be desired. I asked for crispy hash browns, but they arrived lukewarm, oily, and far from crisp. The bacon was not just crispy, it was overcooked to the point of being dry and crumbly. What concerned me most was how the kitchen handled feedback. I watched another table raise the same complaint about their bacon, and instead of simply remaking the dish, the cook had the server bring the bacon back so they could inspect it. That kind of response felt dismissive and unprofessional. Because of this, I chose not to send my own food back, I just didn't eat it, but the experience made me question the restaurant's approach to customer service. While the atmosphere and staff were pleasant, the quality of the food and the way concerns were addressed make it unlikely I'll return or recommend to anyone. read more

Ok, my wife and I went by for lunch. It was not good. I had a Chicken Fried Steak. The steak itself was ok, not great but ok. The gravy was a mix and thin and not much of it. The mashed potatoes were very dry again hardly any gravy and no real flavor. The pinto beans were ok. The waitress did not listen to my wife when she ordered. She asked for fries with chili on the side. She got chili cheese fries. The fries were limp and thin, she said the chili tased like it came out of a can. Finally, the waitress was not attentive at all. She took several minutes to come to the table in the beginning. They were not busy. She never came back after the food was served. I tried the newly opened Blue Mound on Vickery in Fort Worth today. I was surprised to see that the parking lot was full of customers, so it looks like the business is bustling. The pancakes were the best I've ever had, and that's saying something as I'm 68 years old and I've had pancakes at nearly all the notable (and not so notable) breakfast places around the DFW area. The pancakes were plate-sized and had a dollop of real whipped butter in the center. I couldn't finish both pancakes. The coffee was delicious and my cup was kept refilled. My waitress, Mona, was friendly and efficient. Final bill for short stack and coffee with tip and $.40 surtax for paying with CC was $13.89. I highly recommend you try this place. read more

My friend and I had breakfast here for the second time. I scarfed up a pancake, medium fried eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit and gravy!! Every single item was delicious. Our server had to leave but Tree (sp?) picked up where she left off and didn't miss a beat. She was such a sweet woman and was such a great server! No big woop on the decor but the booths are nice. The food was amazing and made really well some of the ingredients that use one of the best but it was still a very good meal The burgers are juicy and a hash browns with some of my top 2 The ambience looks amazing except for some of the stuff on the wall that looks like kind of Etsy stuff but it's still kind of work and the service is really nice what kind of couldn't hear what I was saying and got my order wrong but not in a bad way luckily the condiments in salt and pepper and hot sauce made my meal together that they have for free on the table overall waiting 4.5 read more

I would've given it at least 4 stars but the manager was terrible at her job. Our waitress, Sara, was fantastic and my chicken fried steak was perfect. We placed an order for 2 things to go and after I noticed the kitchen staff just standing around on their phones and no orders on the screen, I asked about it and apparently it is the manager's job to package and ready it. She snapped at Sara when she asked her about packaging it. Very unprofessional but Sara never lost her cool. I definitely think they need to change how they service the tables. It just took way too long. We were only 1 of 3 tables in there at first and it was full when we left but the manager was not helping the 2 waitresses that were serving. I definitely want to go back and try it again but the service needs to improve or they will lose the large number of people that are coming there right now. read more

The food is definitely delicious, no question about that...however the service is sadly hit or miss, and the last 3 times I have been in, it has been a miss. Today, it took too long for anyone to even acknowledge me...and I was sitting at the counter. This is the second time this has happened to me. Today, when I arrived, I overheard a guy at the counter ask the server why his order had not been turned in as it wasn't on the screen. They did attend to him quickly after that, but this is the second time I have seen that happen. In my observations, there seems to be no organization as to who is doing what and the checkout process is a mess! Seriously, that area is NOT large enough for people to stand around waiting for someone to come to the register to cash customers out. And when someone does show up, they aren't very friendly and then bark out..."do you want to leave a tip and how much"...it's just awkward and uncomfortable. One girl in particular referenced a few male customers as "thanks, mister". One guy was taken aback, and let her know. I know that customer service is a delicate balance, but a lesson on how to be friendly and tactful wouldn't hurt! I have been several times and love everything that I have ordered...both breakfast and lunch, so I will be back. However, I just hope that someone gets the service settled down and running smoothly before it turns people off. read more

The chicken fried steak I just had at this restaurant was possibly the worst food I've ever experienced. The steak was too tough to cut with a steak knife. The 2 or 3 bites I did manage to saw to bite size was too tough to chew. In addition, I've never received food as over-salted as this. If a restaurant can't do better than this, they should take CFS off the menu. BTW, the staff were pleasant...it was just the food that was awful. Perhaps other menu items are better, but I'll never return to try something else. read more

We came in & the lady that seats was chatting. She says hello to us but continues so we wait a few minutes because sign says wait to be seated. So we finally take a table behind her thinking she now will come over. No. We grab some menus. Another waitress comes for our order. Our order comes and we order. My daughter ordered eggs over medium. They come with no yolk coming out, so we show her and she says "you know how hard it is to make different orders of eggs" I tell her it sounds like you need another cook. I feel she should have offered to make the eggs again to correct or even apologize. I will never come back here. Service & looks like management stinks. read more

Walked in around 5:30 for weekly dinner for first time. Went over to a booth with wife, we glanced around and realized there were unkept or left over food on tables around us. Now that happens from time to time however the partially eaten food on the plates turned us off and no one was nearby even looking like they would clean it off. We left sadly as it turned us off. This is really terrible breakfast food. I can't speak to lunch or dinner, but I will tell you that literally everything that we got for breakfast was terrible - the bacon was extremely dry, the eggs were rubber, and the hashbrowns were almost burnt to a crisp or tasted like they have been sitting on the griddle for far longer than they should have. First time here since Vickery Cafe left this location. Food was great but I do have a suggestion for the owners.... I had a to go order, there should be no way I should be asked for a tip when I'm paying my bill. Tips are given for complete service at the table or bar. I don't tip at the drive through, why tip someone who just rang me up? Please ask your staff to stop asking for tips on to go orders! read more

Went on a Wednesday for dinner with my family and had the lemon pepper grilled chicken. Everything was delicious! Large portions! I'm not generally a country food kinda gal but the buttery biscuit was so good! Service was friendly and the food was brought pretty fast. We will be going more often. read more
