Like all other reviewers have mentioned, John's work is awesome, he takes pride of his work and very fair price! He did rotor's resurfacing of my BMW and all the vibrations went away, also helped me check on other brake components too. Please support great local businesses like this! Also it's an old school shop, phone calls or stop by the shop are only only ways to make appointment, you won't be disappointed. read more

John was amazing. Took our Audi Q5 here to get the wheel alignment done and he charged us less than we were ever quoted ANYWHERE in Seattle. Not just the price but his customer service is amazing. He was honest and upfront about his schedule and helped us book an appointment for a later date. On the day off, we handed over our car and it was ready for pickup in an hours time. We also wanted to get our brake pads repaired but John was honest about not being familiar on getting these done for our Q5 (which we honestly appreciated). All in all John will be our go to person for wheel alignment and any brake issues we run into in the near future. Thank you for being realistic and reasonable with your prices and providing outstanding customer service to us. read more

Like another reviewer, a dealer printed me out a fancy sheet telling me I need new brake pads, and to replace and machine my rotors at (of course) a dealership price. Why would I need to machine rotors if I'm replacing them? With only 60k miles on the car, none of this felt right other than brake pad replacement. I called West Seattle Brake based on the reviews. John explained a lot over the phone and I felt sure I was in good hands. Ultimately took my 4Runner there yesterday and had brake pads replaced and rotors turned at a fair price. John was honest, clear and up front about the work he suggested and the price (after looking at my car), and very kind. Highly recommend. read more

Last year I went to Les Schwab and just wanted my tires rotated. But ended up spending $600 cause they said my rear brakes were almost out. Since I was there and they said it would be 2 hours, I figured okay. :( Now my front brakes are starting to squeak a little. After reading the Yelp reviews about this place, I gave John a call and made an appointment. He took a look at my brakes and showed me how much I have left. He said I have about 20k more to go and he didn't want me to change it right now cause it's money going down the drain. He didn't charge me anything for his time. He's prices are low. He said it would be $250 to have the brakes replaced. What a great deal! I asked if he does any other services. He only does brakes and steering. He even referred me to another shop down the street and said to go there instead of the other national chain stores. He said that shop is one that he trusts and family owned. They won't over charge you like the other chain shops that work on commission and sales. He is a one man shop, old school and with such integrity! Such as nice guy! It's very hard to find businesses in the automotive industry that are honest like him. I HIGHLY recommend this place if you need your brakes checked out or repaired. It's truly a hidden gem in West Seattle! read more

I had rotors turned and new brake pads installed today on my RX8. Second vehicle I've had serviced here. As before, John did a great job! This guy is a master craftsman and an honest and fairly priced businessman. I highly recommend this West Seattle treasure! read more

If you ever read a less than stellar review for this business, they're lying. John is the last of a breed. Honest, fast, excellent. Had a dealer tell me my back brakes were in imminent danger of failing and continuing to drive was a risk I shouldn't take. They would replace them for 800+ dollars. I panicked. Then remembered West Seattle Brake. John replaced BOTH front and back for just over $500. He's a gem. Ladies, in order to get top notch, reliable brake service, you don't even need to bring a guy with you. If it doesn't need fixing, he doesn't. read more

Brakes for a Toyota vehicle. Old school service. Competitive pricing. Thumbs up......

Love this place. Took my car here twice in the past. Such an amazing person, old school with new techniques if needed. Took time with me to understand what was going on with the vehicle, very honest, real with the prices, and really understands what is going on without even looking at something. Hope you all are well and safe. Thanks for being amazing and working on my car. :) read more

I had my car aligned here after purchasing new tires. Everything went smooth and quickly. Great prices. Highly recommend!

Honest, fair pricing, quick appointment, and great service. All good things to say. I am very happy with my brake pad replacement.

John is an amazing example of how to run a great business. He's honest, he went out of his way to explain the repair needed, tried to see if he could fix it before ordering the parts. Finished when he said he would, and for the price he did it would be, which was 25+% cheaper than the 2 other quotes I have. Real nice guy to boot, if you need brakes he's the one to go to read more

A genuinely good and honest person, he did a great job replacing all four brakes on my mini Cooper. I highly recommend!

Decided to bring my car here after reading the reviews on Yelp, and I can confirm that the reviews don't lie! John was fantastic! When I dropped my car off, he told me he would evaluate my brakes and assured me that he wouldn't do any work without calling me to tell me what work needs to be done and how much it would be. Very honest and open, and like many other reviews have mentioned, he did not try to sell me on any extras like many shops/dealerships do - just told me what I needed and did great work (and quick too)! Would definitely recommend his shop for any brake related issues! read more

Honest service, a great price, and friendly. What more could you want from a local business? I'll be bringing any car I have back here for brake service when needed. My Lexus GS's brakes feel like new. read more

So I took in my 2002 Honda Civic to get an oil change (at the local Jiffy Lube) and the man who did my oil change said that my breaks needed to be replaced and it would probably cost upwards of $1,000. I wanted to cry. Then I found John over at West Seattle Brake Service. This man is INCREDIBLE. He's incredibly kind and really knows his stuff. His love for cars is pure and he is a master at his craft. I wouldn't go anywhere else and I'm so thankful I found this place. He saved me over $500 to get my brakes fixed. It's rare to find such an honest business. He is the best and I recommend him to everyone I know. Thanks John! read more

I am so thankful to have brought my car here to get brake pads and my roaders retooled (wow, I sound like I actually know what I am talking about;) The owner, Jon, is super nice and, like JJ G says, he does not charge you for service you don't need. In fact, he informed me that (in his words) "I know as little as you do about what is underneath the hood of a car, but I know brakes." Furthermore, we took the car to Doyle's (ugh) to get a quote- $700 and next Midas- $635... The third choice was clearly a charm at $475 with Jon. For brakes, 5 stars for West Seattle Brakes. Don't waste your time elsewhere (unless you want to pay high prices and get tricked into other services)! read more

I called here after receiving a ridiculously high estimate. Given what I was told Johns estimate came in $200 less...sold! I bring the car in and he tells me what the other chain store said was wrong, stuck calipers, wasn't true at all. He was able to show me and explain to me everything that did need fixed and why I didn't need other services. All in all he saved me over $500 and from a very bad mood! Please visit him when you need your brakes fixed and continue to support an amazing and honest local business owner! read more

This guy has been servicing my families cars for years. He never charges for service you don't need, (like unnecessary machining) and get it done when he says he will. I drive a work truck, and if I cant drive I don't get paid. He understands this and always gets me back on the road in a hurry at a great price. If you are paying a dealer or a franchise for your service, then you are paying too much! read more

West Seattle Brake Service - The best brake shop in the area - Auto Repair Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Without a doubt the best mechanic in Seattle. Replaced my struts at a good price. Now my truck rides smooth. Due to my work schedule I could not make it in to the shop during normal hours, so the owner was more than accommodating. I will be back in the future. read more

I found this shop about 7 years ago. He has done all the brake service for our entire family since. Old school, salt of the earth guy. Recently, I stopped at his shop after 5:00 pm and he had shut down, but my daughters car had a break issue. He opened up put the car on the lift and found the problem and had offered us a great price. Don't go anywhere else. Mitch Treese read more

I first called to see if I could drop off my 4Runner for a second quote on the front brakes. Over the phone, I was asked the year, make and model. I was told that I would need the rotors resurfaced and brakes replaced. I was quoted $250. That was $100.00 less then what the Toyota dealership quoted me. The following Friday I dropped off my 4Runner and picked it up that afternoon. Excellent customer service and great work done on my rig and I saved $100! I highly recommend your next brake job here. read more

Came by for my brake inspection appointment with John today. I dropped my car off and got a call back in about an hour. John told me that my brakes still had about 25k miles left in them, and he was spot on, because I just changed them 25k miles beforehand. Love the honesty, and I will definitely be back when I need my brakes changed. Oh, and he didn't charge me a dime, so that's a plus. Thank you, John. read more

I originally went to another auto shop near by because my car was making a squeaky noise. They told me it was my front brakes and I needed new calipers, rotors and break pads. Their estimate to fix is was $800. NO WAY! I called John after reading all the good feedback on Yelp. I brought it in today at noon and he had everything fixed by 3pm. All for the amazing price of $250!! Such a good deal and I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off. A nice man who does honest good work. He also accepts credit cards. Thank you John! read more

My car needed new brakes and everyplace I looked at was very expensive and couldn't do the work for weeks. This place was local and had great reviews so I gave it a try. I'm glad I did! John looked at my car's brakes and explained what needed to be done now and what could wait. The work was done right and it was on time. Exactly what you'd expect from a local shop, honest service and reasonable price. I will be back next time I need brakes. read more

Superb. No upselling, honest, reasonably priced. This is SO rare for brake services - usually places m make you replace front and back, rotors included, and charge you like crazy. Thanks John! read more

If you need new brakes, look no further. John is amazing! Not only did he go over everything that needed to be done, he was able to get me in and out in one day, with new front brakes! He was thorough, honest and provided excellent service, even told me that my back brakes had 10,000 miles left on them. I will be back to West Seattle Brake Service when my back brakes need to be replaced for sure! read more

Brakes, rotors, and calipers were replaced without issue and was charged way less than what the dealership wanted. Also John is super-nice and helpful. This place deserves 6 stars! read more

John was so nice, so helpful and so honest! I got my front brakes done and this was the best experience I've had with a mechanic. Local West Seattle resident and found John randomly off Yelp. Honest from the git-go providing ballpark range by phone that beats just about every dealership, for sure. Rear brakes done within half day with no fuss. I was saddened when we lost our mechanic in Beacon Hill but feel fortunate to find a local who is also equally reasonable and honest. John has even provided a recommendation to support his colleagues and another West Seattle business, when my husband and I needed tune-ups for our two vehicles. This kind of support and referral is hard to come by. Without reservation, I would go to John again for any brake service needs. Support local businesses. You will not regret it. read more

John is awesome. Total cost was a hundred or so less than the dealership, plus he got me in sooner than they would have. Would definitely come back for future brake needs. read more

Great deal on my brakes and he did a great job! Much more affordable that the quote for Les Schwab nearby.

Was in the need, for what I thought was 2 front brake pads and 2 rotors. Was calling to get quotes from all the brake services around West Seattle. Was getting price ranges around $400. I called Jon at West Seattle Brake Service, he offered a free estimate in person, after checking it out; he admitted that I only needed 1 rotor and 2 pads. Honest and didn't do unnecessary work. Said he could have it done for $250 by 530pm. He called back at 5pm, had it done early and great price! Load off my mind and great to know that there is an honest, reasonably priced mechanic here right in my back yard! Highly recommend! read more

Thought my brakes might be wearing down, dropped my car in to be checked out. A couple hours later I get a call saying they have another 10,000 miles on then. Charge is $0! This guy is quick, honest, and to the point. Definitely coming back for any future need. Great customer service. read more

Fast, efficient, honest. I have brought multiple cars here to be serviced, always solid work at a fair price. Unlike other places, he only does work that needs to be done. I had a brake issue and had my car towed here on a Sunday night. I came by in the morning , told him the problem, and he told me the possible solution. 3 hours later he called, my car was fixed. All it needed was a new master cylinder. Parts and labor, $200. I was very happy with the service and my brakes work better than ever! read more

I just picked up my car and I have to agree with everyone else who have posted. If you need your brakes done absolutely go here! Less than half the price of what was quoted previously. So refreshing to find a good, honest mechanic! John checked my brakes for free after some squeaking following some (expensive) work done somewhere else. He told me everything would be fine, didn't charge me for looking, then casually noted that the stabilizers were shot. I asked him how much and for a really good price, I said let's do it! His prediction was correct: it got rid of the squeaking and made my steering better. Thanks John! read more

I called John at 8:30AM as I had a family situation and needed our 2nd car's brakes done same day so it could be driven for a trip. John took my car in and assessed it and was able (with some luck on parts delivery) to get it back to me by 11:30AM. He even took off the brake pads and showed me the thinned down pads. Also let me know the real deal of how many miles (100) I could still likely go before hurting the drums. Now, he's really nice so don't go in trying to get him to do yours in 3 hours but I appreciate that he really tried and met my timeline. Great service and great price. Highly recommend. read more
