I understand that covid is impacting businesses, but that is not an excuse for miss communication between the bar staff and adding multiple extra drinks and food to our tabs. I went with my family to watch a college football game here and at the end of the night when we were comparing out bar tabs we had 2 extra pitchers of beer, 5 extra Yeager bombs, 3 extra random shots, and a $2 charge for something called premium. There were 4 of us, so a little confusion is expected, but after explaining 3 times what should go on each tab, you would expect there to be some level of accuracy. Also, side note, the prices are astronomical for a pub in Tacoma, $15 pitcher of colors light? $4 for a side salad instead of fries with a burger, nonsense. Another thing that happened that rubbed us the wrong way is the way they handled a drink and disorderly patron. It was college football Saturday, however the election had just ended, so all the channels switched over with braking news coverage of the acceptance speeches. This one drunk guy started yelling about how he was there to watch football and not "this bitch" (talking about Kamala Harris.) when other patrons told him to be quiet he started yelling even more and brought race into the mix when one of the tables that asked him to be quiet was a table of black patrons. In response to the yelling the manager or owner came out and yelled at everyone to be quiet and turned the football game back on for this man. 3 tables of people immediately asked for their checks and said it was because of that drunk man, none of the wait staff to say I'm sorry or apologetic and they all seemed to agree with the drunk man. Easy to say we will not be going back and I highly suggest going to one of the many other wonderful pubs in the Tacoma area. read more

Well, sadly I will NEVER go to this pub again. I was introduced by a friend around ten years ago and have been coming ever since. Always order the same thing and tip decent. I went in with my father last night to get the usual and after they took my beer order we were awkwardly informed that if we were not there to watch the UFC game we couldn't order food. I was in shock, we just walked out. How can you go somewhere for so long and just get washed like that? We recently moved to the Northend of Tacoma. Little did we know that we'd luck out with a great neighborhood pub. West End Pub offers a great food menu, and of course, excellent selection of drinks. At first blush, this Pub looks like a great place to watch an event on TV as they have more TVs per square foot than most sports bars. Indeed this was the case when we visited for a UFC Championship fight. The place was jumping to say the least. Also of note, this Pub has tons of pull tabs. Not my cup of tea but you can tell this is the place to come if you have the desire to have great food, drinks, and take a little gamble with what's left in your pocket. I've never played pull tabs but if I ever do it will be at West End Pub. Lastly, the thing that gives West End Pub 5 stars from me is the pride of the staff. Every pub will do suggestive selling of special dishes or drinks. West End Pub takes it to the next level. Besides making suggestions, the staff does so with thoughtful care. If you tell them what you typically like, they will match you up was a great offering. Sometimes they will suggest something that isn't even on the menu. Before too long you'll feel like an MVP as you order one of your favorites that isn't even on the menu. Friends will think you are Michael Corleone as you appear to be an insider. You will know the truth....You're just an everyday Joe bellied up to the bar at one of Tacoma's best places. 5 star service and selections at a 3 star price. read more

We had a sixteen person "dinner" meeting there Nov. 18, 2011. I'd never been there, but I liked their Yelp reviews. I called a couple days in advance to reserve some space; they gave us two eight person tables, in the side room up against the front windows. When I got there at 500pm it was pretty deserted and very quiet; by the time we left around 700pm it was almost full and pretty noisy, a little too much for a casual conversation - but hey, it's a pub! In the very back is a pool table room with no stereo speakers, a couple tables; that probably would be a better place if you want to talk. I had one of the burgers, which was very good. Other people had burgers, salads, appetizers, etc; everyone seemed happy with their meals. Our one waitress was very professional, did an excellent job. I live in Maple Valley; if I lived anywhere near here I'd stop by frequently, this place had a good "vibe". Clean throughout, some limited on-site parking outside if you get there before they're packed. So no, it's not Canlis, but I thought they were perfect at what they do, so I gave them 5 stars. I love the West End! It is so comfortable & feels so safe that bringing friends & family there doesn't even take a second thought from me. The staff is warm & friendly with the service being great! The food was exactly what I'd want from a pub: beef based - steak, burgers, dips; with a lot of options for those with a healthier mindset. Of course, at our table we were all about raising our collective cholesterol level. We had one order of bacon cheese fries, onion rings, a massive and delicious prime rib sandwich, and fish and chips. Yes. BACON CHEESE FRIES. On the beverage side, they have a full bar, house made lemonade, and the usual suspects for a good beer house in the northwest. Rest assured, people - this is a place to get your drink on. If you find yourself in T-town looking for a good lunch, or a meal before a show - pull up a seat in this spot and enjoy a cold brew, a well crafted cocktail, and service with a smile and side of sass. read more

I've had a range of experiences here. Most of the food is mediocre, a few gems though. The nachos are bad, do not order. The biggest issue I encountered was for football games. It's great with all the TVs, but one week I was watching my team, there's a minute remaining, 7 pt game. I'm by the pull tabs and they start switching channels to Seahawks, including my channel. It was a small tv and I asked the guy to leave it on while the game finished....no dice from this guy. Instead, he says "their game is on in back, you can watch it there". The seating is filled in back and I have to stand with my food by the exit door. The cold draft was helpful in cooling down. I only go back if friends insist. Later West End! read more

Pretty good little spot...tons of tvs and views to watch the game from. The pot roast sandwhich is excellent. Only complaint is that the servers make you feel like you need to gain their respect and gawk at the tip right in front of your face. All the mirrors are a bit weird. I had the BEST hamburger I have ever had in my life at the West End last week. I woke up the next day thinking about it and I am still thinking about it. I got the Cowboy which has BBQ sauce along with all the usual. The bun was toasted to perfection and the meat was high quality and hand pressed. I had a great side salad. My hubby had a burger and fries and both were excellent. Friendly staff and cooks, nice neighborhood crowd and good drinks. I have been going there since I was 21 and it has never been as good as it is now. Kudos to the Mohawk chef and his son. Great cooking duo! read more

You'd be surprised how many sports bars get the concept totally wrong. The West End has it right. First off, lots of screens, most of them flat panel LCDs or Plasmas (good picture quality) of 40 inches or bigger. Plus in another room there's a projection system that comes in around 70 inches. But, they do do that annoying sports bar thing of playing the local team (Seawahks) on 80% of the monitors while allocating just a couple to out-of-town. Want to be able to track all your fantasy players by glancing between monitors? You're probably out of luck. The Packers may be on but the Vikings are probably in the other room while the Jets are somewhere 180 degrees behind you. Sports bar food? Theirs is better than average. Burgers, check. Various fried appetizers? Check. Couple of salads, check. But thealso have decent bar-b-que ribs and other interesting things that you standard pub doesn't do. Wasn't sure what beer we wanted to order so we asked for a taster. Was told that the owner now charges 75 cents for one. Servers giving away to many. Cheapskate alert. The food looked great coming out but looks can be deceiving. Got a decent amount of fish and chips for the price but they were overcooked. Heard raves about the prime rib so tried it on the PR sandwich. It was mostly bread and lacked flavor. Cleanliness and service were non-issues. Lots of TV's and a casual, welcoming atmosphere. Just came here yesterday for a friends birthday. It was about 11 people in our group. As soon as we parked this waitress literally stood at the door and said "oh fuck no it's Seahawks Sunday it's way too busy in here" as if we weren't allowed to come in? we didn't even step foot in the building yet. Idk how this lady could have a customer service job. And why are you cussing!! She continued to say the same thing when we were inside and just treated us like crap. When our group was telling her how rude she was being she just kept being rude and had the audacity to tell her manager like we were the ones who did something wrong. Loved my experience. I hadn't been to West End Pup in probably 15 years. My husband had never been. We decided to stop in for a visit & were very happy with our choice to go to West End. We both ordered burgers & they tasted so good. Like freshly made burgers with fresh tasting meat. It didn't taste ike anything was frozen. Service was great too. Came here on a whim because we found that they were showing the UFC fight for $10 a seat. Garden Salad with Ranch was loaded with way too much black olives and their corn cobbettes are just baby corn used in Asian stir-fry. It was really good and everything was fresh except the cobbettes which I'm sure came from a can. DH had the spicy chicken quesadilla which isn't your normal wimpy quesadilla. Serving size is HUGE and packed with filling. The chicken was moist, but it wasn't spicy whatsoever. Amazing service!! The girls were incredibly helpful and nice. You must try the baby back ribs! Talk about killer. Great tender ribs nice sauce. I had mine with fries. Along with the great; no, awesome ribs I had a very nice tasting Porter called, Dragon's Tooth. Very impressive. The staff is helpful and friendly. read more

Seriously, I'm a very hard sell. Although from here, I've been in San Antonio last 14 years enjoying amazing food and restaurants. It was also hard to find a restaurant for Valentine's Day, but am happy to share the Pub Steak at West End Tavern was incredible; mac & cheese very good as well. My burger was cold upon arriving and I got a bit of rudeness from the waitress when I asked her (very politely) to reheat.

I would comment on the service, but we never received any. Mind you we sat there with our ids out in the middle of the bar waiting for 10 minutes as the bartender walked by to serve other customers without even acknowledging us. Which gave us just enough time to look around, and determine that eating there would not be happening. The cook was not wearing gloves while touching raw meat, and then moving on to touch other ready to eat foods. Sad day. I was very excited to try this place. Oh well, now we'll never know. read more

In the past few months I have spent a LOT of time at the West End Pub & Grill, with teammates from various sports teams. This is surely not my favorite spot in Tacoma (a sports bar? Heavens no!), but the prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is laid-back, and it's the kind of neighborhood haunt where you're bound to run into someone you know (but had forgotten all about :). I'd steer clear of the nachos -- a mountain of chips, olives, salsa, jalapeños, unfortunately drizzled with the sort of nacho cheese that oozes out of a machine at the snack counter of a movie theater. I DO recommend the baked potato, however. For only $2.95 you get a massive potato stuffed with the works. The wings are solid, as are the bacon cheesy fries (though again drizzled with that God-awful nacho cheese). I hear the steaks are good too. All-in-all not a bad bet for a laid-back dinner and a pint, consumed while watching one of about 20 big-screen TVs peppering the walls. read more

We have given this place MANY chances. The service dropped off after 7:00. No one would even pick up our check. We tipped the pull tab lady that cashed us out. Lunch, Prime Rib Dip. Delicious! Service, sucked. And while we had to wait for the servers to finish their chats, we were forced to watch Faux News on the TV. It was the only TV with the volume up. This is my least favorite place to eat in town. The food is awful. The service is awful. I had the fries and chicken tenders; they taste like they are frozen from a grocery store. The cheese was the worst cheese I've ever tasted. I would advise people to steer clear of here; there are much better options. read more
