It's been thirteen years since I was here the first time and going off of what I scored it the first time I didn't have much intention of coming back if it was that long ago. But things change and I heard that the ownership changed here. I also kind of forget about this place as it's tucked away in a part of town I rarely go to. But there was a large group of guys, including myself that was doing a social here and so I decided to go with them and give it another try. I didn't have anything to eat so I'm not sure what I would think about it. But they do have a nice tap list of beers and the selection is fairly large. Lots of choices. So I got a couple of beers. What I did notice also was that for a pretty large group of people they managed to handle the volume pretty well and tuck all of us in to the outside (but covered) seating so that was pretty slick. read more

Let's start with the building itself, the spot is nice with all the wood, it's gorgeous. Now the service... the giant order here sign is confusing when you go up to order food and the bartender scolds you and says they were going to come to the table. I don't know if it was bad day or what but the person working was very unpleasant and demeaning to customers. We ended up splitting a burger and it was decent, a little over sauced but okay. The food was basic and the service we received was not good. Given this was our first time visiting, we do not plan a second visit. read more

Terrys recently re-opened with renovations. I hadn't been in before the renovations so I don't know what it looked like then, but it looks great now. The atmosphere is really fun and welcoming. It's 21+ order at the counter but the staff was checking in on us and refilling drinks frequently. I thought the food was delicious, the menu is pretty standard bar food but it's all well done and quality ingredients. I'm not sure if it's because it opened so recently but it was filled with people while we were there and it had a really fun energy that's missing in a lot of bars. As one who frequented the old Terrys, I am a bit disappointed by the remodel. What was a cozy neighborhood dive with amazing & affordable food is now a fancy modern sports bar. You can't really just show up and easily join in a table with friends anymore (the downside of booths). It's basically all new staff. Everything that made Terrys Terrys is gone. Its lost the casual, approachable vibe. The remodel looks great. The woodwork is absolutely beautiful, but that coupled with the cement floors makes it very loud. I do love that there is a patio where dogs are welcome. Of course the menu changed, that's expected. A lot of the old staples are gone. It's higher end fair. The new Mac and cheese bites are good (a new fancy version). You get 3 for $8. They no longer offer a patty melt, so I got the Meaty Mama Melt with Jo's. It was good, however I was baffled when it came out with ONLY 3 Jo's. It just seems cheap and ridiculous. The ranch used to be homemade and was delicious. The new one is watery and bland. And no tots?! It's still early days, and things may change. We will go back, but for now will need to find new spot to get takeout and classic bar food. read more

I gave this place another chance and saying I wouldn't. I was appalled by the surly service from the staff. The bartender started to bad mouth the old Terry's customers and staff by name. Some of whom I have know for years. The couple next to me had the burger which was raw and the staff refused to fix it and blamed the customer and claimed they ordered the the burger that way. I had one beer which was flat. They refused get something else. The ownwr needs to step in and redo the whole concept. It doesn't work. I have no reason to go back. I love the new Terry's, I loved the old Terry's too. But everything is gorgeous. This place was rocking! So I knew to bring my patience. We are all so excited to be here! The beer was super tasty. Tried a stout and an Amber, both were a 5 star! I had the #1 sandwich (like a clubhouse). It was huge and delicious. Also had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and veggies, topped with an amazing country gravy. I am so impressed that everything tasted and looked like it was made from scratch. Terry's Office Tavern is back and better than ever. The remodel is stunning. The space feels fresh, elevated, and thoughtfully designed while still keeping the soul of the tavern intact. The staff were truly outstanding. Even with the bar packed and just reopening, the team was warm, attentive, and completely on top of it. The table service is a huge standout. Many peer bars don't offer this level of service, and it made the entire experience feel relaxed and pampered rather than chaotic. The food was absolutely on point, and everything came out efficiently despite how busy it was. You could tell the team was working hard and doing it with pride. It's rare to see a reopening handled this well. Beautiful atmosphere, amazing staff, great food, and that extra level of care that keeps us coming back. We're so glad they're open again. read more

Moved to Proctor last year and so happy Terry's reopened soon after. Never visited the previous iteration, but this one is just about perfect. Plenty of room at the bar, great service, and most importantly great food. Rotating tap is appreciated, too. Looking forward to spending some time with the pup on the porch this summer. read more

We sat in the new side room with the fire pit & fireplace & we're glad we did because the main bar and dining area gets very noisy. Nothing I would return for in their new menu. I had their burger. The meat had good flavor which I appreciate, but their mayonnaise and any dressing containing it ruined it for me. Lower quality and watered down. Yuck. They don't offer any hot drinks - i. e. coffee or tea. That doesn't work for me. My first time there was a few months before they closed for remodeling. I loved the divey vibe and how it was set up where it was easy to meet people at the next table and socialize. It's very much different now. There are strangely long wooden booths along the walls and in the middle are these strangely long and narrow high tops. When my partner and I went to grab a bite and a drink, it just started to get busy. We sat at one of the middle high tops and waited for a server. I overheard someone tell the person behind me that you had to place an order at the bar but then saw someone take an order at the other high top so we waited. For a while. People that arrived after us were being served before us, probably because they sat closer to the kitchen? I don't know. 2 ppl went to sit next to us at the same high top and after at least 30 min someone took our order. I saw many confused looks from patrons. Most likely because they're very understaffed and it's not clear if you have to order at the bar or not. It took a while before our order arrived but once it did, we were very pleased with the food. The turkey sandwich was delicious and the imitation poutine (forgot what the name was but this describes it best) was very good. While our food was delivered around the same time, the ppl next to us weren't so lucky. One of their two orders arrived close to our food. By the time we were done, 30-45 minutes later, they were still waiting. They're understaffed, it's disorganized, the layout doesn't make sense and feels segregated. The booths against the walls are so awkwardly long. Sure you'll fit 3 to 4 average sized ppl on each side but they'd have to shimmy in and out. It's also not spaceous enough for a wheelchair. You'd either be in the way of the servers (if they're even around) or your face will be fart-height of the ppl in the middle high tops. It doesn't feel like a place to visit after a long day and unwind anymore. And it's so bright in there! I was hoping they would keep the dive bar feel but it's pretty much the opposite of what it was. It feels inconvenient. read more

The good news is the new remodel is really nice! Unfortunately the experience at Terry's was quite a disaster. More than half their menu items were not available and what I did order, a french dip, came with a cold, dry burger (looked like it had been cooked a few days prior) and a french roll with au jus. I asked for fries and received Jo Jo's - they were also out of fries, I guess. The service was lackluster to say the least, as well. I'll wait a year before I go back and hopefully they will work out their issues. I wish them all the best on their 'comeback' after being closed for so long but they should by now, since they have so many other restaurants, know how to keep food in stock at least. If you're going just for drinks this might still be okay. Just not if you're hungry. I was going for food as it was noon on a Sunday. read more

The owners are good people and I believe they want to give us a good experience. They spent a lot of money to do just that, but they need to dig down further and spend more to rip out the booths that are too large, confining and uncomfortable and replace them with tables and chairs. That is just the start. The owners need to ask the regulars exactly what they liked about the previous menu and Hire cooks capable of duplication and Enough servers and bartenders to Handle the occupancy. Then the owners need to invest in a long "soft" opening to make certain operations are smooth. The former cheeseburgers were spectacular as were the fries which were always fresh and hot. They pull this off and they will get five stars. read more

Back again after the complete remodel. Trying to be objective here and not comparing because this is the new chapter. We ordered the Stranger and the Barn Burner and can truly say that taste, quality and size are spot on. The big booths will take getting use to especially if you are not on the open end. The best spot is by the fire pit seating and will be spending more time out there. Overall the staff and manager are top notch. Oh, and the pricing is very reasonable. read more

I wanted to love it, really I did. Terry's was our old neighborhood pub. It looks nice when you walk in, they did a good job in renovations, but things went downhill from that point. They had one staff person for the entire bar. Waited ages for our table to be cleared, had to get our own water after waiting 15 minutes, went back up to bar to see if anyone was coming to take our order, she told me she'd get there when she could, so I asked if I could just give her our order. We ordered the turkey sandwich, which was beyond dry, so then I had to go up to bar to ask for some more cranberry relish for sandwich...another wait. My friend, equally unimpressed, said Terry's has customers now because they are newly opened, but they won't keep them if they continue with bad service, and bad food. ​ read more

First visit to Terry's office and will go again. The place was full of locals and we shared a table. The place was full on a Wednesday "sirloin" night special $17. But we shared the house chicken and jojo's special...four pieces of fried chicken with four large jojo's and sour cream sauce. Served piping hot. Wait to eat! Everything is super hot! And delicious. Plenty for two to share. We also had local IPA and vodka and tonic. Everything delicious. David is friendly and welcoming and he worked alone tonight. Busy all night but kept a positive and friendly demeanor. Highly recommended. read more

Okay so I admit my review is a bit different. I have a 19 month old, a 12 week puppy, a dog cat and yes a wife. So I don't get out for a pint at a local bar much anymore. But they have some really good dinner specials. I'm not one for fried gizzards however the fried seafood platter for $17 bucks feeds two or one hungry teenager. Cod, clam strips prawns and choice of sides and get a bowl of clam chowder for $5 more. I also have had some good burgers and who doesn't like chicken and Jo's. Dank. Old School. Regulars. Neighborhood hangout which is a staple of the north Proctor area. Absolutely nothing fancy about this place. Filled with cheap furniture and cheap alcohol. Huge group of regulars usually planted at the bar. Service is fairly friendly and quick. Decent bar food. Limited selection of draft beer. Yes, they have hard alcohol - but don't expect inspired drinks - stick with a single alcohol and one mixer and you can't go wrong. The place has no AC - so be prepared to sweat in the heat. Terrys is a North Tacoma Institution with regulars for days. Gets packed at meal times and game times. I so so so wish they would expand out into the parking lot and open a family friendly area and an outdoor area. I rode my bike to Terry's at dusk for dinner and a pint. The barkeep greeted me immediately and offered me a table well away from the few others that were occupied (social distancing!). I declined saying I'd like to try the outdoor covered seating area. No problem, he said. So I ordered a burger and an ale and walked my bike outside to the nicely arranged picnic tables under a tent. It was cold but I was prepared with extra layers and gloves. The food was perfect. Fresh burger ingredients, generous meat Patty, nice fries, sauces. Very attentive service. We have loved Terry's for 25 years and usually order their burger but all of their food has been good. We've noticed a slow deterioration in their food lately and both the burger and fries were horrible today. The burger was so overcooked it was dry and their fries had to have been cooked in old oil as they were super brown but soggy. Service by Jack was slow though only 22 customers in the tavern. We're thinking of exploring other taverns for the 1st time because of the changes here. read more

We've tried just about every French Fry in Tacoma and theirs are my #1 favorite hand-cut fry. Drinks are inexpensive in comparison to much of the north end. Great spot to hop into for an unpretentious drink and good conversation. Personally, I think the fact that they seem to not care much about making the place look cute or cozy is part of the charm. I have been to Terry's so many times I can't even count. I really love the tavern atmosphere and have always had good experiences. I moved away for awhile and came back to the Tacoma area a few years ago. I recently suggested that we grab some pizza there because I remember it being super yummy. It was not good. Actually, It was really bad. We ordered it to go, so didn't have the opportunity to tell them directly that the sauce tasted terrible. I have never actually tasted sauce that I thought went bad. That was the main issue. I probably should have called. I'm sure I will revisit one more time, because I'm really hoping something I was just off that day, but, if it's not good I won't be back. It's unfortunate. I highly recommended it to my friends and it was a huge disappointment. read more
