I am biased. I've been wanting to stop by this bar for so long. I kept hearing about it and just hadn't had the chance. This place is touted as the first bar in Tacoma, located in Old Town. For me, the food and service was Ok however what I was looking for was to play pool. As a person growing up with a pool table, I wanted to see if these two tables would do the game justice. Let's say- it did! Although the felt was worn, and the walls were closer than expected - overall the table, sticks, chalk were able to deliver. Now, granted one ball would get stuck when you racked it up, but the servers were helpful to unstuck the last ball. The food itself was pretty good. I ordered the Greek salad with hummus plate and it was plenty for the cost $15.50. That's a steal nowadays. I didn't know there would be a band playing the night we went but although it was too loud to have a conversation, it was fun to see a local group playing and their followers. Definitely recommend to try at least once! I'll be back for their 50 cent pool games (:

I believe this is the oldest tavern in Tacoma, but it is not dusty and stodgy. Instead it is lively and friendly. Good food, great selection of cold beer and we love to catch to regular live music!

I would always recommended this spot to anybody. Beautiful views of the water front in the back bar area, great music selection, and an even better draft selection. From ciders to ipas they have it all. I've never tried the food here but it looks good so maybe next time. It's in a really neat spot to walk around as well, not far is some other great restaurants and places to grab a quick drink.

This place has good food but the service is really slow, as there was just one person tending to the restaurant. The ambiance is okay in the restaurant side, but if you're 21 and over I'd go by the bar towards the back; you'll get some BEAUTIFUL views of the sound.

After spending my morning working at the coffee shop next door, I thought I'd give The Spar a try for lunch. The Spar is located right in the heart of Old Town. The server was alone and really busy. I sat down and it took quite awhile for her to come over. Being busy is a great thing! I ordered a mushroom burger and a side salad. The burger was great- hot and good quality. The salad was also good. Overall, a good lunch spot. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of their fish and chips.

If you're looking for great pub fare, friendly service, and a welcoming vibe, then head over to The Spar in Tacoma's Old Town. They have some of the best halibut & chips in town. The panko crusted halibut is hand coated in house, and I recommend pairing it with their Spar Chips, sliced in house and lightly seasoned. It just elevates the experience. And definitely check out some of their great local IPAs on tap. Cheers!

On our most recent visit we tried the nachos, and they were honestly the best nachos I've ever had. The cheese sauce is amazing- not some gross canned stuff. The chicken is perfectly seasoned, and the ingredients are layered throughout so you're not stuck with a bunch of plain chips. It feels silly to be gushing about nachos, but they are next level. Dirty Oscar's Annex - Disappointing Experience on 6th Ave…read more We came in as a group of seven, and unfortunately the experience went downhill quickly. First, the service was poor and disorganized. One of my friends arrived early and ordered her drink, but it didn't arrive until after I had already received mine -- even after she asked twice. We also had to wait far too long for basic things like napkins and forks because we weren't given enough for everyone. The most frustrating part, however, was the automatic gratuity. At no point were we informed -- verbally or on the menu -- that parties of 6 or more are charged an automatic 20% gratuity. We only discovered it by carefully reviewing our checks. And to make matters worse, the so-called "20%" was not actually 20%. It came out to 24.1%. When we questioned it, the person who said she was the manager claimed "the computer does it automatically." We are a table full of teachers -- and the math was definitely not mathing. We understand and respect gratuity for large parties, especially when the service is great or when it's clearly communicated. But charging more than the stated percentage crosses from poor service into a billing integrity issue. To add to the frustration, there is also a credit card processing fee, which again was not clearly disclosed on the menu and only appeared at the bottom of the receipt. This absolutely should be visibly posted before ordering. They did offer to refund some of the charges, but we declined because it would have taken additional time and we had an event to get to -- and more importantly, it doesn't resolve the core issue of lack of transparency. She also gave each of us a $10 gift card, but again, that doesn't resolve the issue. And honestly, what good is a gift card if we don't plan on returning because of such an awful experience? Overall, this was a very disappointing visit, and not one we would recommend based on service and transparency alone.

When I arrived at 10:00 AM, the manager was not there. I want to specifically thank the kitchen stuff who was there early; he was very kind, tried to help me, and suggested I wait at the bar while he tried to contact the manager. However, when the bartender arrived later, the situation turned unpleasant. Even though I had been waiting since 10:00 AM, he rudely accused me of being late. When I explained the situation, he dismissively said, 'I never seen my manager here on Wednesdays anyway,' and showed zero effort to help. He wouldn't even have bothered to call the manager if I hadn't explicitly insisted and asked him to. After the call, he simply told me the manager 'had something important to do' and wouldn't be coming, suggesting I should just come back later. It is incredibly disrespectful to confirm an appointment and then simply not show up , wasting a candidate's time and gas money. If the management treats potential staff with this much disregard and allows their floor staff to be so rude to applicants, it speaks volumes about the business culture. I hope the owner addresses this internal communication breakdown.

Secondly, Cassandra was absolutely superb!! We all thoroughly had an amazing experience, from the drinks, appetizers, to our entrees, and the service. The Lavender Martini was top notch, and we also ordered the White Mojito. That mojito was crisp and refreshing! Two spectacular cocktails. As for our meals, undeniably unbelievable!! I ordered the 12oz. Ribeye, with Garlic Potatoes and crisp Broccolini. So crisp and a unique almost vinaigrette flavoring, with a subtle spice. As a side, we ordered the Thousand Layer Potato. My first time ever having this, but seen how it was made on a video. Simply divine. My wife ordered the Braised Bison over Polenta, with some Carrots. This is the tastiest Bison we've ever had!! Turns out it's the former, at least in atmosphere. The service was genuinely lovely from start to finish. The host, server, and table assistants were warm and attentive. No notes there. We went with the ribeye prix fixe, which felt like the obvious call given that Ms. Jane's has built its reputation around it. The menu included a salad, two ribeyes with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and dessert for $150 plus wine. The salad was beautiful and delicious. It just could've used some cheese, and I will die on that hill. The mashed potatoes were legitimately outstanding and nearly redeemed the entire evening on their own. The broccoli was fine. Broccoli is always just fine. Then there were the ribeyes. They were enormous, beautifully presented, and unfortunately not much else. Both cuts had an excessive amount of fat and lacked the depth of flavor you'd expect from a restaurant that's staked its identity on this one dish. We make better steaks at home, which is not something you want to be thinking about after dropping $150 before wine. Dessert closed things out on a high note. A chocolate and vanilla mousse topped with genuinely delicate whipped cream. In the moment we told ourselves we'd come back and try something else. A few days of reflection later, that enthusiasm cooled but it didn't disappear entirely. The service was too good, the mashed potatoes too memorable, and the mousse too solid to write the place off completely. Ms. Jane's clearly has something going on. We just hope the ribeye isn't the thing they're most proud of.

Finally got a chance to try it at noon today, and it was a great experience! Environment: The overall vibe is very American. There were TVs on the walls constantly playing various ball games, like today's playoff game between the Thunder and the Lakers. It was pretty busy on the weekend, especially the outdoor seating area, which was almost full. The building is an old structure dating back to the 1900s. Though it shows its age, it's very clean both inside and out--you can tell the owner really cares. Service: Our waitress was very, very friendly and professional. She gave us great recommendations, always served with a smile, checked in on us during the meal, and refilled our water. Very satisfied! Taste: Pizza: There's a funny little story: supposedly, Marco Polo went to China and saw pies, but didn't know how to wrap the filling inside, so he just put it on top--and thus the pizza was born. Personally, I think this is a myth, or many people have started fantasizing about Marco Polo because they think he was too great. But according to various unearthed historical records in China, Marco Polo never actually went to China. In fact, around 2010, more than 20 scholars organized an event called "Retracing Marco Polo's Route." After completing the journey and comparing it to what Marco Polo himself recorded, most of them concluded that he probably never made it to China. Sorry, I have a strong urge to share--went off on a long tangent about Marco Polo. But the pizza was really delicious. It should be truly fire‑baked, not oven‑baked. The sauce was well‑balanced, and the toppings were generous and fresh. My wife and I ate more than half of it! Salad: The dressing and cheese were very generously applied, and the greens were fresh. Chicken wings: They had a pleasant sweet‑savory taste, just right. Unlike most American restaurants where they're too salty or too sweet, these were perfectly balanced. All the dipping sauces were good. Overall, highly recommended!
