Racist, only colored person in there tonight, my friends got drunk separately from me, I was playing pool. After waiting an hour to play, some things were escalating with my friends after one of my friends tried to apologize. A worker came over and started escalating things again, So I asked a worker if he was security, bartender Jimmy put his hands on me and kicked me out. Over one phrase, not even part of the previous problem, kicked me out BEFORE my white friends who were already fighting for the last 30 min. Didn't refund me my money for the pool game and didn't let me grab my own card to close out my tab, had to have one of my white friends get it. Overall good vibe with fun female bartenders! A bit busy downstairs by the bar where the one pool table was always occupied. Upstairs where we hung out were big buck hunting (brought back good ol Hawkeyes college years!), foosball table and old school non-electric dart with chalk-score board! We were recommedned the place a cute local gay couple during our ramen outing at Mochi and had to hit the place up. It did not disappoint! Will definitely be back! read more

Christa is the bartender and she is friendly and gives great service. Fun place to play some pool, see friends, and have a couple drinks.

It was such a delightful experience to be served by Morgan. Welcomed with a smile as she asked for my ID, which was flattering as I am way over 40. First I had a rye old fashioned with Bullet. Made quite well. After just had some beers. Water was served with the old fashioned, not asked for but welcomed. Never had to ask for anything even with a full bar. Very attentive, friendly and professional. Definitely recommend Magoos for a friendly comfortable dive. read more

The smell of beer smacks you in the face as you walk in! Which is inviting for a dive bar. The bartender was "ok" not real friendly. The place is dusty with cobwebs all over the decor. This place has been a haute for many years. Some nights it's college kids, sometimes blue collar guys, either of which will drink you under the table. Old wood, a pool table and a kitchen that is fine but really only there cause they have to have one. 16ish taps, full bar. Last night all of the following happened while at Magoo's for a couple hours: A man stood up to get the attention of the whole bar and announced that the person next to him had gone down to Olympia to testify before our government that "marijuana is awesome!" We obtained many beers at a reasonable price. We looked at a table that has the logo for both Battle Start Galactica and the Wu Tang Clan engraved into it. Had a solid game of darts with real metal darts (none of that plastic nonsense.) Breathalysed our entire party for a mere $.75 a piece. (Note: I don't think it's too accurate above a certain level as my friend who blew a .40 was merely drunk, not almost dead.) Winner. read more

It has been nearly 40 years since returning to the scene of many a lost week end (week night, week day.........). I "lived" there a fair part of my formative university days at Magoo's in the early 70's. It was time to find out. Not much has changed. The same friendly atmosphere and staff. A true local. All that really has changed is that the "King Rock" pinball table by the front door (explaining why I was often broke back then) was moved to the back of the bar and replaced by a new model, say from the late 70's. This was done to add seating on the main level. My heir apparent (daughter) tells me this place gets crowded many evenings (I wonder if some overly confident males still come in with their tooth brush in their shirt pocket, certain of using it in some young lady's apartment the next morning?) And PBR has replaced "Heidelbeer Berg" (damnit). They say you can't go home again but I suspect I could fall into my old ways again were I within crawling home distance from Magoos. And a new tootbrush for my dentures. read more

I have been going here for a year. The food here is great, the nachos and quesadillas are large and filling and are my favorite items. The bar itself has a nice dive bar feel with a mixture of relaxed nights and nights where its packed and lively. Taco Tuesdays are nice and the tacos are well portioned. There is a surprising amount of room once you realize there is a back and upper area. Darts, pool, and a completely one sided(lol) foosball table are available. The night view outside the bar is pleasant as well, a dim bridge to the right and sleeping daytime businesses to your front and left. In addition to this, the bar is located in a nice, safe, part of town. I had one bad experience and the owner contacted me through Yelp and took the time to meet with me personally to hear me out. I thought meeting with an owner would result in a difficult and defensive conversation about who was right or wrong; it ended up being a nice, man to man, conversation with a pleasant element of humor. He listened and leveled with me and that kind of human to human interaction is invaluable these days. I appreciated it greatly. read more

Went here once as my hubby used to come here in his younger days. I guess it was a hot spot back then. There's a reason it's not anymore. It smelled funny, all surfaces including the floors were dirty and the pool table had definitely seen much better days. For a Saturday night there was hardly anyone in there except regulars. I wouldn't dare eat here. One good thing+ strong pours on the drinks. This is one of those places that are best seen in dim lighting. It needs a serious update. read more

So I've been coming here for about 2 years now, and as someone who has been in the food service industry for a decade plus I cut everyone a huge amount of slack before I start to get a bit upset. With that being said everyone who works here does an amazing job except for the long time bartender JESSE. He's consistently rude but I let it slide. And If he's off the clock getting belligerent at the rail he will give you an even harder time. I tried to gently ask him why he was being so inflammatory with me and he literally laughed and walked away. Idk man it feels a little racist to me. But anyway, everyone else at the bar is absolutely amazing, Jackson will make a drink that knocks your socks off and always has some pleasant conversation to offer. Food is decent. Magoo's is still the little hidden gem I remember from years ago! The Hubby and I had a chance to step out for a few and after some eats, I decided to show him this place since we are now in this area and I happened to drive by and thought, "I remember that place, I will have to visit soon!" My first time coming here was over 5 years ago and I came with a pretty big crowd that met up with a group that was already here but I remember it being a pretty cool spot and it still was the same coming here the second time with the Hubs:) Walking in we were carded immediatley, LOL! Next stop the bar, which we were greeted by a cheerful bartender that let us know she was new but no worries, she gots this! As we received our drinks, we found a nearby table and enjoyed the atmosphere and each others companies. The crowd was just enough that it made the place feel lively but not to where we couldn't hold a convo. The decor is fitting for the area and the crowd that frequents. They have a pool table and dart board and the place is actually alot larger than it appears from the outside with a second floor backroom! We will definately be back and maybe try these tacos, everyone raves about! read more

They also have a variety of "Fun Time" jello shots which are refreshing. Their hot sandwiches and food specials are great but I mostly go in for the beer and a shot of booze after work. My friends are always hitting this place and now I know why. Pretty hipster place, but cheap beer and damn, the first reviewer mentions the nachos. Good music in the Juke, cool setup and a pin in the back next to the bathrooms. We'd go around ten to be sure to get a table (as it would get super crowded with all of us UPS students!). In the Spring, more of my Thursdays at Magoo's were turned frat parties. This is a wonderful, comfy neighborhood bar with the finest of bartenders, good brew lists, not too noisy. Taco Tuesday is a hoot. The sandwiches and pico de gallo are quite tasty. ohhhhhhhh Magoo's. THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. got it? ok, moving on. With that being said, I have pretty fond memories of this place. Yes, it's crowded. Insanely packed actually. I didn't even know they served food. There is only one pool table so don't get your heart set on playing. Jukebox is good but REALLY loud, just like the crowd. I have only been once or twice, and that was years ago back in college [great, now I feel old]. If you want to meet people and like strong drinks [the coke is just for color guys], that's what I remember most. Service can be lacking at times but they are probably constantly short staffed. By far my favorite bar in the area, this place is the best kind of dive bar there is. While there are always a hodgepodge of mismatched patrons hanging out at the bar, the best days to go are the off-days- Sunday (for the beautiful Australian bartender who pours some STRONG drinks and the free pool games), Tuesday (for the $2 margaritas and $1 tacos) and Thursday for the $5 PBR pitchers. Though it should be noted that it is also apparently UPS Greek Life night on Thursdays, with co-eds crowding in to get 'krunk'. The music is purely chosen from a jukebox that anyone can control when armed with a pocket of quarters. There are some great selections in there! Additionally, the nachos are giant (and should be considering they are $9). I recommend them! It is highly advised to go check out this bar (and might I also suggest spending your 21st there- shout out to Paco Dan and all of the free drinks he provided!) read more

On a rainy Sunday evening I walked into magoos annex, they pointed me out to an outstanding porter and even gave me half a pint free after the tap blew. After a great game of darts and free pool on Sunday's I ordered a hot dog with "everything" on it. Collin the chef there prepared me a delicious hot dog with a medley of toppings, including everything from artichoke hearts to pizza sauce! All around in magoos has superseded my expectations for a bar time and time again. This dog isn't on the menu but truly a special surprise. Winner winner chicken dinner! read more

TUESDAY. we discovered a Tuesday-night gem in tacoma! i used to LOVE coming here to drink w/friends in the nineties and then basically forgot about this place over the years until someone mentioned to me recently, how awesome their tuesday tacos are. no doubt... what i heard was 100% CORRECT. $1.50 (yes, you read that) hardshell tacos with a decent amount of meat, fresh hand-made pico (yes, the cook fresh-preps the pico right there and chops cilantro...), jalapenos, lettuce, hotsauce, cheese, sour cream... these are made with LOVE. cheap margaritas too. the server @the bar is super sweet and attentive, too.
