I want to love this place, I really do. I was when they opened and live 4 blocks away. The atmosphere is nice, but the food.... The wings are so over cooked so bad that they actually become unpalatable, they taste woody and rubbery, nor are they crispy, as I would expect for the exorbitant price. Also, the french fries have always been sad. They are hand cut but not crispy and, while they have advanced from the original days of literally soggy flop potatoes cuts, they are still average at best, on the best day, when they have the right cook. Don't come here if you need to satisfy your fries hankering. But it is not all bad, I swear! The kids' menu is a solid reason why I come back, awesome value and tasty. Also, the patrons and bartenders are all generally quite nice. There is one taller slim bartender gal with black hair that is a little cold and unwelcoming, but nothing to cry about. Bottom line, if you are looking for something kid friendly (before 8 pm) with Ok food come to Cole's, but don't expect anything special. read more

Had a long day and was not able to grab dinner until 10pm on Friday. I have had drinks at Cole's and love their bar and bartenders but had never tried their food. First I was pleased to find out their kitchen was still open, secondly - their chef was ON POINT and made probably the best fish and chips I've had in Tacoma. The fish was fried to perfection and not too greasy and it was flaky and delicious. I've had SO many BAD fish and chips in Tacoma I stopped ordering for I while even though it one of my favorite things! The coleslaw was delicious too (another thing that Tacoma restaurants tend to neglect and it's usually gross!!) last the fries ... these were some of the best hand cut fries ever. Came here specifically for the fish and chips.Over the years Cole's has maintained a good standard on this meal.A little on the greasy side,but tender cod and skin on fries are easily eaten.The noise level can be a bit much.Place was only at half its occupancy and conversations carried through this homey neighbourhood bar.Servers did a good job.Not too fussy,managed to show up when you needed them!Competitive prices are a plus.Plenty of beers on tap.Some outdoor seating available.Kids are allowed.Lots of tv's for the sports fan. read more

Came here after scoping it out for a while. Parking was easy, but on street. Kids are allowed here until 8pm...there were some folks with a baby there. Some may or may not like this. Place is small and can fill up quickly. They do have a decent tap list with a few ciders and a seltzer in addition to beer. Also a full bar. We decided on fish and chips and fish tacos with chowder. Chowder was decent, as well as the fish and chips. Fries were good. Prices were fair. Service was very attentive and friendly. Several TVs playing football games, no music was playing. Fish and chips I had was more batter than fish, and was barely warm when served: still, it had a good flavor. Had the impression it came out of a box instead of being made there. Looking for a cocktail and something to eat before we headed to the zoo lights and this place was close and fit the bill. Cool vibe, lots of televisions with college football and your average bar decorations. People were nice, got us menus and took our orders quick but I had to take a star because I asked for my check several times and at one point, after putting my card down they were just going to run it without letting me see my total. Not cool. Food was yummy though, cheese curds and caprese bites plus your average well drinks. This place is great! The service was very friendly. Our food was hot, very tasty and tasted very fresh. I had the chili which was full of big chunks of beef, tomatoes and peppers. A nice kick without burning your mouth! The side blue cheese salad was huge! Took it back to the hotel and it was also fresh and crunchy. The balsamic dressing was very good. Used to really love this place but it has gone downhill. The guys they have working in there are terrible. Where did the girls go? They were amazing and SO on top of it! Came here for a double date night recently and had a great time. I stumbled across Cole's on Yelp (of course) and was shocked I hadn't seen them organically before, because I'm always in the Ruston area! Glad to have discovered them. Cole's fits the bill for a dive bar, but it's more of an upscale dive bar, if that makes sense? Very clean, really nice inside, and they also have limited patio seating. All the TVs were turned on to games which was to be expected. Solid selection of beers and bonus - they have delicious pickle juice for picklebacks, woot woot! Sadly they do not have Espolon tequila (pls get it!) but they had our back up. All of the appetizers are $5 which is a steal - and there's quite a few to choose from! We got the fried cheese curds and the fried pickles. Both were sooo good! The pickles are pickle chips and they're huge! Even eating both of those fried foods, I felt great. There wasn't a ton of grease and there was still lots of flavor past the breading. We also split the Pearl Street Chicken Sandwich which was delicious. Loved the avocado spread! If you're in the area Cole's is definitely worth checking out! read more

We have eaten here several times and always enjoy it. It is a neighborhood bar/restaurant (kids allowed in part of it). They have cocktails and a large variety of beer on tap. We've had fish and chips, French dips, and the chicken pesto sandwich among other things. The appetizers are a good price and the onion rings and caprese bites are great. It is loud in there, and I like that they have a big door that opens up to the outside when the weather is nice. read more

Service has been a bit slow on occasion due to the bartender having to cover the bar and restaurant solo. When there are additional servers things are fine. We were visiting Point Defiance Park with kiddos and a small doggo via walk-on ferry from Vashon and we'd spent the morning hiking all around... and we were *famished*! We were thinking Anthony's would be great for lunch while we were waiting for the ferry back... but they don't allow dogs in their outdoor dining area. Grrr! Turned out to be a blessing in disguise! We saw Coles was fairly close by and had great reviews and we called and made sure they had outdoor seating for a doggo, and they did! So we caught the bus and got off at the second stop. (Yeah, we easily could have walked 10 minutes but we had some tired and hungry kiddos so we weren't taking any chances). The staff was so great to us! They set us up on their patio and were super attentive. The food was amazing! We asked for onion rings as an appetizer and they were brought out in like 5 minutes and we're *perfect*! My son had the fish and chips and I'm pretty sure it might be the best we've ever had. My wife had the chili and the clam chowder and I got tastes of both and they were amazing! Finally dined her for the first time! We really just did happy hour, but I'm so glad we finally made it in. Coles has a greet atmosphere. Cheers like, where the server/bartender knew many of the patrons. Service was fantastic and atmosphere was very relaxed. Food wise, We only got wings, but they were some of the best we've had in the PNW. Smaller, but very crispy and perfect Buffalo sauce. We'll for sure be back! read more

Onion rings- burnt and cold, which is always a fun combination. Sauce was unexpected. It was cheesier than I would have expected and very spicy. Bartender (Tina)- 6 stars on a 5 star scale. Above and beyond nice. I'll definitely go back but won't get the onion rings. They did warn me tonight they're closing again per Inslee's shutdown, so go tomorrow if you want to eat there! We went Cole's last night with the kids to grab a quick bite and I knew that the kids needed to be out by 8 so we made sure to show up at 6:45. I have been there several times before (about 30 times) with the kids and on date nights or girls nights. We have always had friendly staff and good food even though sometimes the food takes longer than I expect. I definitely have enjoyed my experiences there in the past! But last night, after waiting 15 minutes for our drinks, a woman who wasn't even our server came over to my table and accused me of sharing my alcoholic drink with my teenage son. When I told her that she was wrong, she decided to close out my check and told us to leave. The drink was awful and even I could not stand to drink it. We gave our waitress our order about 20 minutes before this and she told me it was never even put in. So, we drove across town, waited 40 minutes for nothing. I ended up leaving and getting my kids some food at McDonald's on the way home. I could not believe how rude and disrespectful this woman was. I cannot image ever wanting to step foot in this place again. It was such a frustrating and disappointing experience. read more

We were trying to get into the Italian place next door, but needed reservations. Went to Coles instead and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was great and reasonably priced. You could get fancy cocktails or $3 Rainier tallboys, or micros in between. I highly recommend the bacon and blue cheese salad, and my wife happily polished off her chicken sandwich. I have been in here a few times now and overall they are doing a good job. I love the location and in the summer when they can open up the garage-type doors it will be fantastic. The décor inside is great, dark wood and steel adorns the whole place kind of making it feel like a old warehouse, but very nice. Service has improved greatly since they opened, our friends waited 90 minutes for a burger during the first weekend, but since then they have been back and were pleased with their service. We have always had good service though. Food is surprisingly good for a local pub. Soups are made from scratch in-house and are very tasty, their fried pickles are great I get them about every time I am in there. We have tried a few things on their menu, however, not their burgers yet, but my go-to item is their chicken club, love it. They have a breakfast menu which we will definitely have to try out. As for beers not overly impressed with their selection kind of small, surprising since the same owner owns Parkway and Hanks. But they do have a decent selection of wines and a full bar. Probably my favorite place in the North End, too bad they opened one month after I moved to Gig Harbor I could have walked to this place before. Coles is a great destination if you're looking for a quaint spot to stop for a quick bite to eat. We sat outside, but the heaters kept us warm. I'm thankful they are able to provide dining on site, despite the health dept. restrictions for indoor seating. We had fish and chips, which were cooked to perfection. Love the fresh cut fries, too. Excellent customer service and I'm thankful to be supporting a local business. Praying they can survive these crazy times. Good people, great food! What a nice place. Love the way the doors open to the outside for summer sitting. The place has pleasant deco, and I liked the remark from another Yelper, that you have a lovely view of the Chevron station. Service was very attentive and prices for beverage lower than average. Had the fish tacos, wings, and onion rings. Fish taco and wings are above standard. The onion rings get a lot of raves and that is justified for those that like very crunchy batter. I prefer this type of batter over beer batter but for me these we too crunchy. The cut and size of the onions are excellent. We will definitely be back! read more
