We came here for the swordfish, but fell in love with the pizza. The swordfish was good, but when having it back to back with The German, the pizza is the star of the show. It was packed with flavor! If you like pretzels, make sure to order the pretzel and dips. I liked the cheese base dip while my husband slightly liked the mustard one more. Both paired very well with the pretzel. I ordered the Caipirinha from the drink menu and I loved it. If you have a hankering for lime, then this drink is for you. The dessert....oh my gosh! We ordered the Apfelstrudel and would get it again next time. Everything was on point from the texture to the flavor! One appetizer, two drinks, two entrees, and one dessert was a little over $100 pre-tip. It's a little pricey for us, but we don't go out to eat often. The creamy pork tenderloin pasta was delicious! The pork was very tender and the sauce was not overwhelming. It had mushrooms and tomatoes but the flavors were not extreme. Keep in mind that this is a small restaurant, parties greater than 6 will be hard to fit!!! For those that want a quick review: There is some seriously good food here, I enjoyed my goulash and I felt the service and aesthetic was perfect. I would say that they have good ratings for a reason For something more in depth: First off, let me say that Jerad had FANTASTIC service. We came in as a party of about 11 in a restaurant that really makes it hard for having more than six and he did a good job at taking care of both sides and keeping in touch with both sides of the booth. As for the rest of it, I felt that Weller's had a really cute and aesthetic vibe. This seriously is one of the perfect spots for a date night with a significant other, the lighting and type of food gives you a unique experience to have. The food in of itself was great, I had a genuinely great time eating my goulash, it was a good mix of sour and sweet with some mushrooms and tomatoes in there as well. The serving size was quite large and I can see people not having enough room to finish the whole dish, the rest of the party seemed to enjoy their food as well and there was no major complaints from the crew. I will say that the only mark against them was the dessert, it was okay. We got a free dessert as it was a birthday celebration (once again kudos to the service) but even if it was free again I'd probably not go the route of getting it again. There was no real flavor that I enjoyed while having it, unlike the food that was all I could hope for. Although the rest of the table really seemed to enjoy the apple strudel and took it home to have later. Drove by this cute little place and immediately cancelled our reservations elsewhere. Only complaint was that we had to sit in the main dining area (because at 53, I didn't have my DL on me ) and couldn't even sit at the table for 2 in the bar area. The food was amazing! We shared a huge wedge salad that was full of toppings, I had the brisket dinner special and my husband the Snitzel with mushroom sauce. The warm red cabbage and warm applesauce was delicious, along with the mashed potatoes. We didn't care to much however for the spatzel. It had a grainy texture and was dry (even with the sauce). They bread pudding was delicious as well. It wasn't too big and dry. Very moist and yummy. We will definitely return when we are in the area. Stopped by Wellers for a business lunch and found it both charming and delicious. We started with the deviled eggs, which were a smart choice--slightly spicy, kissed with bacon, and lifted by a sharp kick of German mustard. Tasty and gone in seconds. For my entrée, I ordered the Hühnerfrikassee. Think of it as a deconstructed chicken pot pie: tender chunks of chicken with mushrooms, asparagus, and peas, all bathed in a rich, creamy gravy. In the center sat a giant scoop of dill-infused rice that tied it all together. It's definitely hearty fare for lunch, but absolutely worth it. Portions are generous, so either arrive hungry or plan to leave with leftovers. At our table, everyone was happy with their choices, and I have to say--the schnitzel looked especially stellar. Service was just as strong as the food. Our server, Amy, struck the perfect balance of friendly, attentive, and helpful without ever hovering. This feels like the kind of place that would also make a great date spot... though after a few piles of meat, potatoes, and gravy, you may not feel your most romantic. Weller's offers some good German fare. Not a huge place, but the place was pretty busy on a weeknight. Their bar area looks cool, and the dining room was darker but we could still see pretty well. Our appetizers were yum - the Fried Cheese Curds was amazing. The buffalo dip was good, but I loved the fig dip! The Pretzel had a nice texture to it. Our entree selections: Hühnerfricasee (chicken) was served with dill pickle rice. Very tasty, thick and rich, the texture was reminiscent of chicken and dumplings. The pickle flavor in the rice was not overpowering. I liked it. Schnitzel - pork pieces poundes and fried to perfection and topped with mushroom gravy. Served with red cabbage and sliced, pan fried potatoes. Super delicious. Spaetzle - Noodles and gravy. What we expected, not special but still good. Creamy Pork Tenderloin Pasta - the pork pieces were very tender and the creamy sauce made it rich and savory. Sundried tomato bits added an umami finish. Everything exceeded my expectations. This was one of the best Reubens I've had- loved the kraut, it was balanced and not at all greasy, and the pastrami was absolutely perfect. And the roasted Brussels sprouts are in some kind of addictive sweet glaze- yum! It's a fairly small place with limited parking, but we easily found street parking very close. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Our server was quick with water refills and menu details. I appreciated the classic rock/80s playlist, though it was a bit odd for a German restaurant haha. I LOVE this place. I recommend it to people all the time. Their schnitzel with the lemon caper sauce is absolutely amazing! Crispy with such a flavorful sauce. The potatoes that come with are wonderful, they pair well with the lemon caper sauce. I am not a fan of the cabbage, but you can substitute it for their exceptiinal green beans. The pork tenderloin pasta is also scrumptious. It is a great leftover too! The rouladen is one of my husband's favorites. We will always be coming back. Was craving German food, so happy this place is down the street from me. Pretty packed even for arriving for a later dinner, but the wait was only 15 min. Amazing service and atmosphere as usual. Started with the fried shrooms, the sauce is fire, so yummy!!! Then had a German mule cocktail, it was very fall inspired and refreshing. I ordered the Das Schnitzel and the pork was cooked to perfection. Hubby had a German beer, and huhnerfrikassee. We were looking for something new and stumbled upon Weller's. WOW! Service was attentive and personable, and very knowledgeable about menu. We have never had German cuisine before, so this was a new experience. The portions were large and we had several take home boxes. The food had layers of flavors that were new and unique to us. Very disappointed. No one answers the phone, which is incredibly frustrating. I tried calling several times to place a pickup order, but no one ever picked up. I know this place well and have been there many times, and it's not so big that you wouldn't be able to hear the phone ringing. Really fun to try something different. Loved the potato's with bacon and onions. The bratwurst was good, not anything incredible, tasted like the ones we get from the grocery store. The schnitzel was the highlight along with both the lemon caper sauce and the mushroom sauce. Fries were good- loved the sauce they came with; kind of a zesty tangy curry. Neither of us ever tried anything like it before. I really enjoyed it. The red cabbage had an apple hint to it. It was not my favorite. Wellers definitely has a homemade taste. It's obvious the chef knows what he's doing. I would guess if you were German or love German food this would be an absolute hit. I wouldn't be at all sad to try other things here but I don't know that I'd actively choose it again. Certainly worth trying if you love German food or want to try something new. read more

My mother picked this restaurant after we came from Antelope Island State Park. My mother and I were seated immediately. upon arriving, we were ask if we wanted anything to drink. We decided to order the Deviled Eggs, Bratkartofflen, Das Schnitzel, Brussel Sprouts, and Huhnerfrikassee. The Deviled Eggs were delicious, flavorful, and very delectable. The Brussel Sprouts were very tasty. They were sweet, not overcooked, and seasoned well. The Bratkartofflen which consists of Potatoes, Bacon, and Onions were also delicious and fried to perfection. The Das Schnitzel and Huhnerfrikassee which are entrees were out of this world. I didn't really care for the sauces that came with Das Schnitzel and the Rotkohl which is German cabbage with Apple wasn't one my favorites. All in all, the customer service was outstanding. The small easy-to-overlook old-town-Layton roadside location has unfortunately kept us away from trying this local treasure till now. From the German-forward Gulasch to the French-forward Pork Wellington specials, Weller's Bistro made us feel back on vacation in Europe enjoying delicious traditional foods in a cozy bistro atmosphere with pleasant service. To beat the rush, we just had to catch it for dinner earlier than we would on that continent! In food craft there were some minor missteps that would lower it half a star, such as the beurre blanc sauce served with its smooth texture breaking; Wellingtons with slight misses on pastry gappage; lack of sharp knives; the funny-tasting tepid water; and the beef, mushroom and red bell pepper gulasch still needing a touch longer simmer. Yet the friendly welcome, fair-priced tall pints of German beer, hearty portions for price, and authentic side dishes still wraps this up in five stars for us-- with extra thanks for the cheery complementary cup of boozy-cherry birthday kirschtorte for the sharing. This was my third visit, and I've never been disappointed with the food or service. The restaurant itself is intimate, but they will accommodate large parties. We were celebrating a birthday, and they went out of their way to ensure our big surprise went off without a hitch. Everyone loved what they ordered, and our server Amy was absolutely phenomenal. It was some of the best service anyone in our party has ever experienced. I ordered the Creamy Pork Tenderloin Pasta, which isn't German per se, but I highly recommend asking for a side of the Lemon Caper Beurre Blanc to drizzle on top. It really elevated the dish for me, and I finished every last bite. In the past, I've ordered the Das Schnitzel with the same creamy lemon sauce, which was delicious, and also the Beef Rouladen, which was good but not my favorite. My wife has had the German Dip, which is good, but keep in mind that the meat is chopped, not sliced as you might expect. The Deviled Eggs are good, with a sort of bacon flavor infusion, which I didn't care too much for. The Bratkartoffeln also has this flavor undertone. The Fried Cheese Curds are the best appetizer I've had, beating out the Pretzel & Dips for me. The Spätzle is pure comfort food and a great side to any dish, as is the Rotkohl. The Kartoffelsalat is good but more American than German, as it is served cold (not warm) and lacks the vinaigrette dressing that I love. The Apfelstrudel is delicious, especially if you're like me and love anything with golden raisins. Overall, it's a great dining experience, and it's always been busy when I've gone, so plan accordingly. I'll be going back to try some of the other menu items. read more
