This is my go-to grocery store. I love how big it is, but some things can be a little expensive, like vegetables. However I love coming here for deli meat and they have a great selection of cheese. I am not at all ashamed to say we get subs or the hot bar, eat lunch in that awesome dining area upstairs, and then enjoy sampling new cheeses, wines and other food during our actual shopping. Wegmans loves to give samples and I really appreciate it because I've discovered things I wouldn't think to try before. By the way, the bakery items are amazing. From the cakes to the bread. I won't go anywhere else. As I said, however, some things can be a little more expensive than Harris Teeter or Giant, also I have to admit that while I love their sushi and subs, the hot bar food is just OK. Best place to do shopping. I have only 2 complaints: 1. Safeway has more soymilk options (come on Wegmans!! Get fancy with the soymilk too!!) 2. TOO MANY PEOPLE shopping during rush hour!!!!! Answer: Perfection Question: What word best describes Wegmans? Despite living 20 miles from this Wegmans, or ANY wegmans, I still come often because it is BY FAR the best supermarket. Its not really even close for 2nd place. I cant think of a time that i spent LESS than an hour in wegmans, its not possible. Let's take a trip around the store, shall we? Prepared Foods: Excellent. Always fresh, always delicious. The Roasted chickens for about 6.99 are a great buy and are super fresh. They last me a few days, and are great for making a bbq pulled chicken salad. Hot Food Bars/Salad Bars/Asian Bar: I can say that most times I come to Wegmans, its for lunch/dinner and then shopping. The sushi is fresh and pretty good for supermarket level. The asian bar is also good, but what you might expect from a hot buffet bar. Sub station: IF you want a 3 meal sub, get the 14" monster. SO GOOD. The Cheese Section: Holy crap...so many cheeses. Olive/Mediterranean Bar: HUGE and extensive, not just olives. Cold Cuts/Cheeses: A very extensive variety, and the daily specials are usually quite good. I love the wegmans roast beef thinly sliced. Mmm Produce: Where I enter the store and proceed to spend 15 minutes looking for all the great veggies and fruits wegmans has to offer. Great selection, always fresh, but if you go on a Sunday, be prepared for lots to be taken. Meat: Another slam dunk. They have a great selection of prepackaged meats and a meat counter for more specific pieces. Fish: HUGE counter with dozens of fish and shellfish. They also put the serving size/price for each fish so you can see how much you'll spend for a single/double (or more) serving. Beer/Wine: Huge department, with a separate area for the "fancy wines" as i like to call it. The beer is also a big area, divided up by region. The rest: The rest of wegmans is HUGE and takes some time to make it through. Their own store brands are great, especially the MAC AND CHEESE. Tops the kraft by a lot. Dear Wegmans, I visited your lovely abode in Buffalo, NY on a business trip last fall. I had to run away as soon as possible because I knew that if I stayed wondering your aisles for a moment longer I would walk out with way too many amazing goodies that weren't needed for my trip. This is one of my favorite Wegmans shops in the area. Although it's one of the older shops I find it easier to get too and there is always parking in the lot to the side of the store. Love the seafood selection - had guests this weekend and wanted to stuff and grill shrimp. Lo and behold Wegmans had shrimp - 6 to 8 shrimp in 1 lb. The only way to describe them - decadent! They were huge. I actually prefer some of the Wegmans products to name brands. If you have not tried their bacon and caramelized onion salad dressing you are seriously missing out. Not something I eat all the time, but quite the treat when I do. Great produce, cheese and bakery products. Wines are plentiful and cheap as compared to other stores plus they have some nicer high end selections at a more reasonable price. Wegman's is really as good as it gets, as far as grocery stores go. They have everything! This store is like the Disney grocery store. I love all of the things they have but most of all I love the bistro area that looks like the Italy pavilion at Epcot! I mean, they went all out with the decor and seating, and making it look like a little market area. There is always alot going on, people giving out samples in various areas. It's just fun to watch while you eat. The food is always fresh and there is always plenty of everything. Near the milk and juice isle, there is a train track up above where the lights are. The train loops around and goes back and fourth. It's so cute! It's really like someone's dream grocery store! Price is pretty comparable to other grocery stores. I love wegman's! read more

I'm still meh about the chain as a whole, but I did enjoy my time perusing the different aisles and sections at the Sterling location last night. Some things I give them kudos for: 1. Well-labeled aisles ("gluten free" or "Europe and UK") 2. Diversity of offerings (canned ackee--YES!, Kinder bars, Jamaican jerk spices, Thai brands of coconut milk, an entire section of Asian veggies, craft beers, multitude of international cheeses, Italian ham, interesting fruits) 3. Freshness of produce (better than many other neighborhood grocery stores) 4. Wide range of prepared foods (stuffed salmon that is ready to heat and serve, King crab legs, bacon-wrapped shrimp, etc.) 5. Expansive selection of wine Interesting thing I noticed in the charcuterie department: A sign states how long they've gone without a work-related injury in this section the store. That's good to know...Sad to realize how many meat workers are hurt on the job. Also saw a sign for "lost child contact." Someone in charcuterie is responsible for notifying other floor staff about a missing child, if located, I guess. Yet I still say they're not as cool as Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Why? 1. Steep prices 2. Less impressive store brand products 3. Produce not as fresh as Whole Paycheck 4. Prepared foods don't look as appealing 5. Less of the organic, crunchy granola stuff that is so hip right now and loved by nuts like me 6. Get over they hype, folks. Seriously, it's a nice store, but in reality, it's a freakin' pain to navigate. The pros- stuff you can't find elsewhere; VERY helpful staff (from the butcher to the cashiers...they are all exceptionally nice and know exactly where most "hard to find" items are located); great kabobs (fish, too)- perfect for summer grilling; prepared sides- too easy not to buy; WINE selection!! The cons- too busy to make your way through the store during prime hours (go early or late- or fight with parents who tow their 4 children around....they DO have free childcare...); parking lot is weird, and now that Target and the strip mall are open, it's only going to get worse; WAXPOOL...need I say more? What has not already been said about this Wegmans? Well, are you making a fondue for vegetarians? Then head to the cheese counter where the folks are SUPER helpful! This store has the ONLY vegetarian Emmantaler in the area. That's right, the Reston and Fairfax Whole Foods struck out and so did the Fairfax Wegmans. We called them all before making the drive. This place has TWO brands of non-animal rennet Emmantaler. We went with the President brand from France. Great flavor/great price. Thanks, Wegmans, you saved us and you were worth the drive! (if you need vegetarian friendly Gruyere for your fondue get the Trader Joe's domestic brand. It is very good and inexpensive.) I was a little disappointed that there were no sour white wines from Switzerland (or any Swiss wines for that matter), especially with a wine section this huge! When I moved to Northern VA after growing up in Central NY, I was worried about where I would do my grocery shopping. Even at home, I knew that we were spoiled with the abundance of Wegmans stores, which blew away the competition back home. Yet when I moved here and realized that Wegmans had made its way down here, I was relieved. My only gripe with Wegmans is beyond their control, its simply too popular. Unless I can go at 8 pm during the week, the place is packed. People in this area drive the grocery carts like their cars, poorly and with little regard for others, so it can be frustrating. With that said, Wegmans usually keeps the checkouts adequately staffed to handle the crowd. As Gene W. posted, they carry Upstate NY items like Hoffman hot dogs, Dinosaur BBQ sauces, Sal's Sassy Sauce, and State Fair Speidie marinades which I thought I would have to call my parents to ship down to me. They also carry some other items I cannot find anywhere else. I think they are better than others on prices for the most part. Their produce is the best out of the major stores as far as selection and freshness. Whenever I go to Giant or Harris Teeter (they are closer to my house) to buy fruit, I curse myself for not just going to Wegmans as I pick through bruised apples and nearly over-ripened bananas. Prepared foods are great, they make the sushi right in front of you, and the meat/seafood department actually are staffed by people who can advise you on what cut of meat to buy or how to prepare something. Hopefully when the Leesburg store opens, the crowds will spread out a bit, making both stores a more enjoyable experience. Looooove Wegman's. I always find stuff I never new they had, like the British Heinz beans. Not eating pork, the American version of Heinz beans has pork si I can't eat those. The British version is in a tomato base. Yum! So now I can eat beans on toast :-) You can spend a good deal of time in the store and always find new and interesting things. Growing up in McLean, Wegman's reminds me of the old "Gourmet Giant" but it is much better. I will say their pre-prepared foods and food court stuff can be a bit pricey. For example, for $12+ I can get a meal at the Asian/Chinese buffet in the food court. The food is decent, but nothing special. I could get a much better meal for that price via takeout at say Yens for example. Weekend shopping can be a bit of a bi$#h as the store can get very crowded but the checkout lines always seems to move pretty quick and they always have plenty of lines open. I do miss the Asian guy in the bakery. He was there when they opened the store but he's been gone for a while. Like a street corner vendor, calling out to shoppers to get them to come over and try some bread. "Lucky lady, lucky lady, you wan't some bread?" Used to crack my wife up. The total Wegman's experience blows away any other local grocery we have in the DC metro area IMO. I never mind making a trip over there. read more

I love Wegmans so I honestly can't say anything bad about this store except that it is overcrowded. I normally go to the one in Fairfax but happened to be in the area and stopped at this location. The store was set up differently so that was a little bit of a nuisance when trying to locate a few food items. The place was packed and I had to get into linebacker mode to navigate the store. This is a great grocery store. Its large and stocked with a diverse and high quality food and merchandise. If you can't find it at Wegman's your probably didn't need it in the first place. Good bakery, deli, cheese, and meat selection. Produce is usually good but I have gotten the moldy box of berries or lettuce. They do often stock locally sourced produce when in season which is nice. Don't go to Wegmans on Monday as usually the produce has been picked over from the weekend so that what is left is usually pretty shoddy. Prepared foods are decent but expensive. Biggest peeve is the crowds on weekends, but checking out is usually efficient. Employees are friendly and always helpful. P.S. Another annoyance is getting out of the shopping center westbound on to Waxpool Road. Not really Wegman's fault, but due to a poorly designed intersection with Pacific Blvd and a no right turn on red light restriction, it gets pretty snarled often. At holiday time, getting out of Wegmans goes from painful experienced to diabolical. Be forewarned. read more

Wegmans always has good quality and selection. This one is the same, except the layout is a bit confusing. This review is with regards to their sushi. Compared to the Fairfax store, this store doesn't seem to take as much care with their rolls. There are often differing amounts of filling in the same kind of roll, so the quality control isn't there. The case has many kind of rolls, but often has huge amounts of one kind, then fewer of the rest. Finally, the spicy salmon never really seems spicy, it almost seems watery. While I will shop at Sterling when I'm in the area, I prefer to shop at Fairfax. And I will not be getting the sushi at Sterling again. read more

When this Wegman's opened it was great...however, I have been disappointed lately. On my last visit, found that the Kosher challah they sell is frozen and then thawed...for more than four dollars a loaf..I expect better...tasteless! The cheese I bought...parmesan was very expensive and was hard as a rock and tasteless...I threw it away! They used to have excellent cheese. I hate the parking situation and getting in and out of the parking lot...always a pain and no longer worth it. This review is just for their salad bars: Went to Wegmans to sample several items. I got my large tray and decided to get some items for my son and I. First, everything was cold... and yes, I was not at the salad bar. The ribs were -1 star, green beans were soggy, asparagus were overloaded with salt and cheap cheese, rice was not cooked, butter chicken was worse than a can... I can go on. I beg Wegman's management to fix this. I am unsure of what all the folks in the nice white jackets do. read more

GIven the incredibly dynamic nature of Wegmans I've long pondered what exactly this review should be focused on and have decided to focus it on the only thing that really matters. I sometimes tire of the same old sandwiches (subway, quiznos etc.) that fall miserably short of perfection. The perfect hoagie is really such a simple thing: classic deli meats like genoa salami and capicola, fresh produce, warm and soft rolls of bread and home made vinaigrette. A well prepared hoagie is nothing short of a gift, combine this with a gourmet soup or an expertly crafted pasta salad and you have an all American meal, seldom attained but always attempted. Wegmans continues to show us the difference between the "attempters" and the "attainers". The fresh, artisan bread they create here is alone worth murdering someone for. Oh yeah, they have a pretty cool grocery store in there too. read more

I normally wouldn't write a review on a grocery store but I feel that wegmans deserves it. The wine department is always extremely helpful and knowledgeable, they have great prices on chicken (1.99/lb) daily, great subs when you need a quick meal. Only complaint is that their prepared food is a little on the pricey side...I almost never buy anything premade except for a sub when I need a quick bite to go but it'd be nice if their salad bar/asian bar were a little cheaper...8.50/lb is pretty steep. Overall this is my go to grocery store. I go pretty much every day to get my stuff for dinner. One other small complaint(not really a complaint) is that they don't have the little bar in the middle of the store like the leesburg one does! read more

You know how when you start dating someone new and awesome, every single thing about them is just aaaah-mazing? Like, even the way they chew with their mouth open is sooooo seeeeexxxy? Six months later, the same habit and noise makes you grind your own teeth... but you actually somehow love them more? Okay. That was really long winded, but it sort of explains how I feel about this Wegman's. I. Love. Wegman's. However, this location is not without its faults and, as we begin our third year in a nearly monogamous grocery store-grocery shopper relationship, I can see the flaws plain as the spire atop it. Selection is usually great. Prices are very competitive. Customer service is strong, and they will rectify their mistakes if you bring them to their attention. The parking lot is one of the worst in Loudoun County. They rely too heavily on restocking on weekday mornings, frustrating the brigade of stay-at-home mamas and pilates trophy wives. They also often don't have enough checkout lanes open mid-day. Sometimes bizarre things - like yeast or frozen brown rice - will be out of stock. The thing is, you really only notice these things because you love Wegman's so much and you know it has even more potential. I won't stop going to Wegman's, but I hold out hope for an even more awesome Wegman's in the future. read more

Hot food bar is not good. Most of the chicken dishes tasted the same and the pork dish is tasteless. Fried rice is oily and did not have much flavor. Rice noodle does not taste good. The other noodle is over cook. Two adult and a toddler cost more than $40 and totally not worth it. It is so bad that we would not go back. For the grocery part... fresh produce... not so fresh. Saw mold on strawberries and veggie is not so fresh either. Lots of things were out of stock. A very disappointed trip. read more

This isn't my usual Wegmans, although it was the first in the area. I used to think I didn't like the Sterling store as much because I just wasn't as familiar with it, but after my most recent visit, I'd say this store's layout is both smaller and less organized than the Fairfax store. The placement of the tall wine racks at the back of the produce really blocks the store, the milk seems a million miles away, and the prepared foods section is cramped. Nonetheless, Wegmans is definitely the premier grocery store chain in Northern Virginia. You can literally make a day of browsing the aisles and enjoying the foods. As with every Wegmans (and, let's face it, most of Northern Virginia), the traffic in the parking lot is a nightmare. Your best bet is not to troll for a close-up spot -- just park wherever you can nab a space. read more

Three words: grocery store heaven. A beautiful place with beautiful products. I feel healthier and fresher just being there. You name the obscure, hard-to-find ingredient featured in an exotic recipe, diet and fitness magazine or health article, and you can find it in Wegman's well stocked aisles. The prepared and ready-to-cook foods are gorgeous, gleaming at you from behind the glass case and inspiring you to plan a gourmet-quality dinner. The endless dine-in or carry-out lunch options will leave your head spinning and mouth watering. I think this is the only grocer I know that can put my beloved Teeter to shame. Bigggg Wegman's fan. Where have you been all my life? Parking is decent, although it can get pretty crowded on the weekends, so go early! The food court is awesome for lunch. It's like a mini-Disneyland for grocery shoppers. I love everything about Wegmans from the super fresh produce, to the friendly service. There's NOTHING that you cannot find at Wegmans. Wine selection is great, cheese, and their bakery items are to die for. Everything about Wegmans represents fresh and first quality produce. I wished they would open more locations all over northern VA. Wegmans is the only grocery store I would consider spending more than 1 hour walking around in, just to find all the neat stuff they carry. read more

Whoooo hooooooo indeed! This is a great supermarket. Over the year I have come to realize that if you need something, Wegmans has it! Great selection, friendly staff and great layout. It has one of the best places to grab lunch since they make a lot of food there. Everything from pizza to sushi. Nice seating area to sit and relax, an area that is actually comfortable with chairs, couches and tables. Prices are fair and competitive but their wine selection is unmatched until you find a Total Beverage. All in all, great place to shop and stock up on great items. Hands down, still the best grocery store in the area. Whole Foods is gaining, but Wegman's always finds a way to eek it out. This it the first in the area, and probably still the best. Their quality remains the highest, and even after the recent remodel, they've actually become better organized and able to hold more items. The only thing that bugs, is there are two areas for beer, which an be rather confusing. I'll pick up a 6 or 4 pack of something, get down to the other end of the store, then to find that same beer already cold. Do yourself a favor and pick up something to eat while shopping at any of the buffets they have set up, or spots to eat. Going to this store while hungry can be dangerous, as your eyes will be bigger than your stomach and your bank account. Overall though, it's still the cheapest store, and with the best quality. They always have a proper amount of cashiers open and the lines move quickly. read more

Secretly one of my favorite reasons to go visit my parents' house... Wegmans is a huge wonderland of a grocery experience. Maybe I'm being overly gushy but I am obsessed with grocery shopping. I bet I could get lost in aisles of food for hours! Best parts! - All of their bakery items. Fresh and delicious. I feel as if I've stepped into a farmer's market just for baked goods. Loaves, pastries, bagels - all tops. - Hummus/olive bar. Don't leave without a tub of fresh hummus. - Eating area upstairs. And all the great stuff to take up there from the food bar. - Their store-label canned beans and veggies. Fairly cheap, good quality, and healthy. - Natural foods section. It actually spans several aisles, instead of composing a single tiny aisle tucked away in a corner (as in many other chain groceries). Commendable selection. Only problem. High five to the person that created Wegmans. Everything is so beautifully fresh and well presented. I love that there is a little daycare for children. My daughter used to get excited to go here until she turn 8 last month. Now she's too old. Its OK, I still love this place. All of the employees are so happy and helpful. The meats are tender and so flavorful that its not necessary to put too much marinade on them. Salt and pepper is enough to bring out all of the wonderful flavor and juices. Our fav are the Ribeyes. Oooo and I almost forgot about there delicious and huge deli sandwiches for about $5 bucks. Way better than subway. Do not buy any name brand items here, get the Wegmans brand for all of your grocery needs. It all taste great and cost less. And speaking of costing less their prices have gone down plenty from what they were before. Even more reason to come shop here. Its well worth a few more cents for the fresh fruit they have here. Having finally ventured to the Wegmans' that started the "craze" here in Virgina, I can't say I was disappointed. Wegmans, has the LARGEST selection of Gluten Free items ANYWHERE and they are currently increasing their available floor space for these items. I will have to disagree with Collin W in terms of comparing it to Rochester/Western NY area Wegmans. All the Wegmans' outside of it's home base are considered upscale grocery markets. I'm pretty certain some of the characteristic's that are common in the "non-upscale" versions will not be seen in this area. Characteristics like condom's locked behind locked display cases, disheveled/sparse shelves, police presence/incidents, etc. In Rochester and Buffalo (the two areas I'm familiar with), Wegmans' is just a regular grocery store, some of which are open 24-hours. The layout out for all the stores is roughly the same with these large "upscale" ones being based off the "flagship" model they built in Pittsford a few years back. That being said, Wegmans' is a hell of a lot better IMHO than most of the grocery chains around here. Especially compared to the national chains of Safeway & Giant. Price wise, it really depends on what you're getting and for gluten free stuff their cheaper than Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, & Healthway and have a larger selection than Trader Joe's (pricewise pretty much the same). Some items are cheaper at Giant but for everything else Wegmans's is my stop. My only beef with this location is the Sushi counter doesn't understand the concept of customization. At the Fairfax location, I can get any roll I want made with brown rice. At this location, only the rolls that stated can be made with brown rice will be made, or the ones stated on board. This one has free family movies over the summer upstairs from the Cafe. It has a smaller wine section than Fairfax but just as knowledgeable a staff. In addition, all my favorite Western NY items are available :-) read more

This Wegmans is awesome hence the reason for the 5 stars....lol. There really isn't anything bad to say about this Wegmans. Besides that parking spots near the entrance can be scarce. So if your willing to walk a bit or you are lucky enough to catch a customer leaving so that you can take their spot then everything is alright in that regard. Also exiting this parking lot can be a tricky thing, however if you are patient or willing to use a little more gas to use the alternate exits then it's not to bad. I mean yeah Wegmans is a bit on the pricier side with their items but they have a reputation of having very high quality product. So like the old cliche, 'you get what you pay for', which is absolutely true. For the most part with cheaper priced items the quality tends to suffer. But I will not focus on that too much because that can sometimes be a double edge sword in the sense that sometimes depending on the item the cheaper priced item can be just as good or the exact same thing in a different store. So moving on to the greatness that is Wegmans.....lol. The store is always kept clean. This Wegmans has a different assortment of food bars (e.g. American, Vegetarian, Salad, Asian, etc....). They also have a sub shop which I absolutely enjoy for a number of reasons. One of them being that there bread is baked fresh daily. Also it is reasonably sized 7'' and priced. I remember one time I got a sandwich with one of their freshly made breads and let me tell you Yelper's I think I made my wife jealous after tasting and then proceeding to look at the freshly made wheat bread in a way where I was going to love it with all my strength caused my wife to be a bit jealous....lol. We get a kick out of it every time we are in Wegmans. I can go on and on about this Wegmans but I won't. Just know that this Wegmans is awesome and I pretty sure they have exactly what you need or are looking for maybe something extra that you didn't even know. All I'm saying Yelper's if you need to go shopping and want to be assured that the quality of the groceries you are buying are top notch then give this place a try. However, be aware that there items tend to run a bit higher than other grocery stores depending on the item but you could probably find some items cheaper here I guess all depends. Wegmans - White cheese and garlic - Grocery Near Me - Sterling, Virginia

Conveniently located just down the street from my workplace, my coworkers and I usually come here for lunch. What's great about it is that the coworkers who have brought their own lunch can also join us as the entire upstairs has enough tables and chairs to put our own work cafeteria to shame. They have a great selection of foods to choose from... a Chinese and Indian cuisine buffet, Jumbo Lump Crabcakes, a made to order sandwich station, fresh sushi, and pasta station just to name a few choices. I remember a 3rd party we worked with from New York swears after visiting our Wegmans that it's the best grocery market he's ever been to and that it's the next best thing to sliced bread. Yeah.... ok, he's either a little too much on the "happy" side or gosh, are the grocery stores in NYC that bad? o_O Anyways, I don't usually grocery shop here since the Giant or Harris Teeter is closer to my home, but from the looks of things, Wegmans has a wide selection of fruits and vegetables, an aisle of organic foods, and a well stocked bakery section. Oh, and they have these cute signs near their wines labeled "Eating Spaghetti tonight?" and an arrow pointing to a wine recommendation. Wegmans is one of two grocery stores in the area that sells goose at Christmas. They stock up with the best of everything: meat, fish, fresh breads and desserts, etc. Their celiac, vegetarian/vegan, and organic sections are impressive for a general grocery store. Produce is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Their cheese department is second to none, and has great fondue sets and cheese kits. Avoid their international section unless you're pressed for time. All of their items can be found at mom and pops "ethnic" groceries around town for a third of the price. All the employees who have helped me have been amazing. They know their stuff, are passionate about food, and are probably overqualified for working at a grocery store: a question to an employee stocking soy milk once got me into a fascinating hour-long conversation about life, the universe, and everything. read more
