However, on about 50% of my visits I have been either ignored completely, treated rather rudely, or some combination. This doesn't seem to be based on how busy the store is- I've really only ever had one or two other customers in there at the same time I was in. I have no idea why, unless it is the difference in my apparel (work vs. casual). I left the other day knowing I won't be back. I can get good wine elsewhere without leaving feeling badly about the interaction. Too bad.

Usually there are only one or two other customers in the store when I go in. The shelves are full and there are several different types of alcohol, even brands, and lots of things for mixing drinks (like flavored vodka for Jello Shots). Price seems fair, it is Virginia, so they don't have much control over what they charge. The one thing they don't have, gift bags!

I accidentally handed him a 20 and five ones instead of four ones for a bottle of vodka that came out to $23 and change (about .25). I thought I might have given him one too many and went to grab the money I had laid down on the counter to re-count it, but he snatched it up before I could pick it up again. I figured he'd just hand me back my extra dollar like cashiers always do if I had given him extra. So, he's now busy putting the money in the register and I notice that the register display is showing "CASH: $25.00. CHANGE DUE: $1.75" . "O.K." I think. "I did accidentally give him a dollar extra. He'll just give it all back to me in change.". And yet, he hands back 75 cents (or whatever it was...77, 74...) and says "here is your change! thank you come again!" and quickly motions forth the next customer (it was dead quiet in there when I walked in and this other guy was the only other person in the store). So I notice and say "Uh, hey I think you owe me another dollar" and with the most sheepish expression, in the most insincere "ya got me, let me play this off, be fake nice and get you outta here before you make a scene" type of voice (he had been somewhat curt and quiet with me until this point) he says "OH YES SIR, SORRY HERE YOU GO THANK YOU SIR!" and quickly goes straight for the dollar back out of his still-ajar register and hands it back to me before turning his head and attention back to the other customer faster than you can say "triedtopullafastone". The other customer just looks at me with this incredulous grin all while the cashier is intently looking away from me and we both just shake our heads and I walk out of there, astonished that someone would go to such lengths to steal a single dollar from me. I could have lived without the dollar, but I'm not inclined to support a franchise of the state ABC whose employees (possibly franchisees?) try to swindle customers, even out of a single dollar, which makes it seem all the more pathetic, desperate and greedy. A dishonest business to patronize. With two other Sterling locations, you're better off shopping for your beverages elsewhere.

They offer tours (free, on the hour, lasting about 30 minutes) or a tasting and tour experience (for a nominal fee and lasting about an hour), but we just stopped in to try a few of their products. I really appreciated that they offer flights or single tastings, too. I was the driver for the day, so I just wanted to try one or two products, but my friend did their cocktail flight (which gets changed up seasonally). I enjoyed a .05 oz pour of one of their brandies and their Hot Butter Rye cocktail. They make whiskey, rye whiskey, brandy, and more. The tasting room had plenty of space (we sat at the bar, but they have plenty of tables, too). The staff were really friendly, and it was just a great, comfortable place to enjoy a few drinks!

Wegmans is my favorite grocery store, the quality is consistent the stores clean and inviting. I wanted to specifically mention MARTY who works in the Wine department. I LOVE seeing Marty when I come to the store, he is so earnest and sweet and always working to introduce the patrons to some of the wonderful wines Wegmans carry. He is the highlight of every visit to the store.

But navigating the store is fairly straightforward, and the inventory is generally good. I would have liked the produce section to be a bit larger. The worst part was actually the parking garage, very humid and stuffy. As mentioned in other reviews, prices are pretty much what you would expect in an area like this.
