Heyyyy Lidl!!! This location is perfect to stop in midday because it was not crowded at all. Everything was fully stocked and what was not, the staff was actively working to restock the shelves while not interrupting the customers experience. The store is huge, very spacious and the aisle are the perfect width to accommodate a customer on each side so no one feels cramped or crowded while shopping. The fresh bakery items greet you in the parking lot!!!! The closer you get to the door the more vibrant the smell wafts through the air. DO not be surprised if you find yourself gazing at the goodies to pinpoint exactly what you are smelling. This location also had a lot of fresh produce which can be a hit or miss at some other locations. Grab a big cart and BYOB ( bag that is) and enjoy!!! read more

Even though I don't care for self-checkout (and that's the only kind of checkout I've ever seen them use here), I always enjoy my shopping experience at this store. After eating lunch nearby, B wanted to check this grocery store out. I've never heard of LIDL until now. There is plenty of parking. Upon entering, it reminded me of ALDI a bit. LIDL is much larger though and has a greater variety. Their bakery section was nice, lots of bagels, muffins, donuts, fresh breads, cookies, etc. They have organic items throughout the store as well. Prices are very reasonable for the most part, there are a couple of items that are on the pricier side. In addition to the LIDL brand, they also offer other brand name products as well. I appreciate that they will fully refund any of their Lidl-branded items if you are not happy with the product. Bring your own grocery bags or you can purchase bags at the store. I love that they have self check out. Restrooms are near the entrance to your left. Unlike Aldi, you don't need to put a quarter into the cart. We were able to try a few of their items and were quite satisfied. This grocery store isn't in our neck of the woods, but it's a great option to have. Let the grocery games begin! It's near ALDI and with the Harris Teeters, Whole Foods, Wegmans, Giant, and Lotte Plaza near by, this opening has increased the competitors market for the buyer into a grocery royal rumble for who can sell at the lowest price. As someone who studied economics and accounting, I love it! Now for the store, it's clean and bright with the bakery and baked goods the first items you'll see. Probably cause the sugary products catches your attention first with the low pricing for the pastries, cookies, and donuts. As you wonder down the aisles, you get your dairy and proteins before the remaining aisles of cheap-prices produce, wine and other household items you probably won't need but will buy anyway due to..... low price! I was able to find some peppers, seasonings, and a box of pasta for... a really low price of just under $6. How cool is that? While I love the Wegmans, prices like these can't be beat. But I'm sure other stores will do their best to compete! Welcome to Ashburn LIDL! And again, LOW PRICE! read more

I had to see what the hype was about once this store opened in this area. Seems to be quite popular, as there were a lot of customers when I went on a Saturday evening. It is a store with European roots that carries a wide variety of items ranging from food to clothing to home accessories. I was definitely taken aback by the beautiful building...from the outside. This store is similar to Aldi, in that they have their own brands, comparable prices and they charge for bags at checkout. I did note some items were reasonably priced such as baked goods, wine selection, cleaning items. Other items such as beer, clothing and produce, seemed regularly priced, if not higher, than other stores. I did find it rather odd that they carried random clothes, but there was no consistency with some of the non-food items. I personally would prefer to shop at the chain grocery stores nearby that have more items on sale, especially if I am signed up for their weekly ads. I may return here to purchase wine since the prices were reasonable. read more

If Yelp forced us to keep our reviews short, mine would be a simple "WOW". This was my first time in a Lidl store, but I found myself nearby with extra time before going to someone's home for an event, so I figured I should check it out. As someone else mentioned, the produce was terrific (I bought two containers of strawberries that were delicious, even as we are pretty much past berry season...or at least the really good ones), the aisles were very wide (hooray, although you will still find people everywhere who stop right in the middle with their cart) and it was all well organized and clean. I know some people hate them, but they have self-checkout if you choose and I like just paying quickly and going. Huge parking lot (although I suppose you will find that almost everywhere in the 'burbs) and nice employees as well. I hope Lidl really takes off in the US, this was great and the prices were terrific!! read more

Love that a big, shiny, new LIDL set up shop close to where I work. Perfect for the after-work grocery trip while I miss traffic. It's a freestanding building in Broadlands directly across from the shopping center where Aldi is. You don't need a quarter for a cart here, but you will need to pay for bags - so bring some. A couple things are still cheaper at Aldi for me (olive oil, almonds) but love that they have a few self check-out lanes here. A ton of reasonably priced organic goods, beer and wine, and a nice bakery. Definitely worth a visit if you want some essentials at a good price. Just try to come maybe midday during the week, even on a random weeknight it was a little too busy for me. read more

I myself a super cute toaster and tea kettle, pjs for the family, and so many Italian food options. You can even find cute items for your pets. This German discount grocer is making way into Ashburn with this location. You can see from the traffic at the store that this is a welcome addition to this neighborhood. All the local supermarkets like Harris Teeter and Giant knows that this store will make them drive their prices down. They offer some selection of brand name goods, but more often than not, they offer private label brands which saves consumers more money in their pockets. They have a large sign outside the store that reads "Lidl drives grocery prices down". Lots of things are self serve, such as the bakery section where you choose your own items and print your own label for checkout. They also have an app which they encourage customers to use where you can clip coupons and add to your checkout. They offer many types of goods at this store. Everything from a simple bakery area and liquor section, but NO deli and seafood counter. They also have a number of specials each week which can include any number of things from shoes to electronics. If you are a Heidi Klum fan, you will find a selection of goods branded with her label Esmara. They have a pretty good wine collection here. For those that could use a little help with wine selection, Lidl is known for carrying award winning wines. They work with Adam Lapierre, Master Wine Buyer, to buy their choice of wines for sale at the stores. They have come up with a point rating system to help you with your selection. The point system is available on a number of wines they sell and will definitely help you to choose a good wine at a price that works for you. Aldi is also a nearby discount German grocery retailer which competes with Lidl, but step inside this store and it feels quite different. The good deals in front of the store, the smell and look of the bakery and pretty flower section will brighten your eyes as you walk in. If you are a price conscious customer and would like to see your grocery budget go further, you will like this store. read more

Great store but no reason to run out of sale items so frequently. It's getting so bad their going to have an Attorney General Investigation if things don't improve. Went in there on a Monday at noon time and 7 out of 8 items were out of stock. The sale ends Tuesday-evening. No substitutions or rain-checks are offered. As others here have commented, this "out of stock on sale itemis getting old. Sadly, the prices have inched up compared to when they opened. The Black Angus beef for some reason just can't match Harris Teeter, especially there sale prices. The steaks are poly-wrapped and all the same weight. The pricing is not by the pound but rather priced sometimes by 10oz in order to conceal the often higher price. You can't buy a thick steak, as most are cut to be the same weight. And that's only if you're lucky enough to find it in stock. In fairness I have had some outstanding filet-mignon but have also bought sale price Sirloins which were stringy and chewy. Prices on other fresh meats just don't seem to be priced at what I,d consider to be a bargain. Overall it's still worth a couple of visits per month.. read more

I'm not really sure what to think of Lidl these days. When it first opened I was super excited to find decent quality items for much less than at your typical grocery store. I continued to come weekly to take advantage of their sales and until the past month, everything was fine and dandy. Within the past month, each week I've gone, varying from weekend to weekday, this location is consistently out of EVERYTHING they have on sale. I went to get canned pumpkin, out the first sale day. Went to get yogurt, out by Friday. Went to get some meat products, manager had no idea if there was any left in the back nor did they offer to even check. My other issue is when getting there on the weekend right when the store opens, the store is maybe half stocked. Yes, I've been to other grocery stores that are still socking upon arrival, but not to this great of extent. There's even times when pallets are blocking the self checkout areas. It's quite frustrating when a store that is clearly popular enough to clear out products cannot keep or get enough inventory to make it through the weekend when most folks do their shopping. I don't understand if Lidl's business model is so lean to reduce waste that it doesn't care if it's a 1 and done shipment for products. If you can't keep customers due to being out of products all the time, these same customers, including myself will stop coming and return to the other and endless stores in the area. read more

Lidl reminds me somewhat of a Sesame Street set. Nearly all of the products look exactly like the real brand but with a different name (ex. Cookie-O's instead of Oreos). It's not always a bad thing, but the selection here is limited and most mainstream brands are not available. I've been here twice, once for the grand opening and once more recently. The grand opening was dreadful and reminded me of a circus and a zoo combined. The second visit was much more calm and is what I assume the store is like typically. There was only one checkout line open which made no sense, and the self-checkout malfunctioned. The employee was very nice but it was just irritating. For me, the prices aren't too much better than competitors and also they charge for bags. I'm sure some shoppers will love Lidl but for me, the selection is too spotty, the experience is too inconsistent, and there are too many other options available in the area for me to spend extra time here. read more

Hey Aldi's, there's a new grocery in town! Just in time for the holidays, this Lidl also offers some wonderful German and international goodies at very reasonable prices. One caveat: a lot of products contain Palm Oil-- read the ingredients and beware. The store is clean and well-lit. The in-store bakery had some amazing options. I moved quickly through here to avoid getting too many carbs. The produce and veggies also looked really good and fresh. Lots of parking, free carts. Thanks Lidl, of Ashburn, Virginia! I've been a patron on this Lidl literally since the day they opened; in fact I was there for their ribbon cutting ceremony. This Lidl is a direct competitor to my favorite Aldi across the street. There's lots of great items to get from fresh produce, to household goods. Their bakery department is small yet mighty because their bakery pumps out freshly baked good throughout the day and you can smell it when you walk in. Their wine selection is pretty good and the prices cannot be beat. The dairy department is impressive with lots of selection and incredibly cheap prices which often makes me buy goods that's not on my shopping list and I yet to have been disappointed by anything I've tried. Sometimes I take an extra minute to stroll through the isles and find interesting items, just this week I discovered these roasted coconut coated pecans that are incredibly delicious. I always take a circular on my way in and you should too because the deals are not to be missed. Another thing worth mentioning, they have some of the smoothest driving shopping carts I have ever experienced; it may be silly mentioning but it makes the shopping experience all the more pleasant. My only complaint is that they're short staffed on open registers and you're often forced to go use the self-checkout which only takes electronic payment. read more

After months and months fighting for their share of customers, Lidl is still not selling any unique products, let alone German/Swiss/Austrian made products. Aldi is not much better either. Offering bologna from Oscar Myers? Really?!? No need to go in any food categories, you'll get about everything in any American supermarket. Add to that the Chinese produced junk from cooking spoons, crepe maker (), nightgowns and whatever else. Such a sad joke. One exception: their bakery department. The only place where you can find something that looks and even (almost) tastes like products made in Europe. World Market has (and always had) authentic items, made in Germany. Costco carries a number of European products, same goes for many Asian supermarkets. Trader Joe's is another place for many international products, including Belgian chocolate. Where are the various cold cuts, European (and NOT European STYLE) butter, European cheeses, German mustard, pickles and so forth. Many people were really looking forward to both Lidl and Aldi entering the US market, to finally be able to purchase some (only asking for some staples of European cuisine) items produced and imported from the Old World. read more

I would describe Lidl as a combo of whole foods, trader joes and aldi if they all got together and had a baby. Getting in and out of the store lot is a bit funky. So firstly you don't need a quarter for the carts, however if you don't have your own bags you can purchase at the check out. This store is bigger than Aldi and I feel like the selection of items is more varied when compared to Aldi. They have a pretty decent wine selection. Also this place also has a bakery on site too. Now on the day I was there it was quite windy so please remember to either take your carts back and make sure they're secured or please place them in the cart corral. I walked out of my way to grab a cart so it wouldn't hit someone's car. So remember take a few extra moments for the sake of others. First time visiting LIDL! I've been trying to get here to check it out. This place is sort of like ALDI, but a helluva lot nice. I think its like ALDI on crack! Much nicer, cleaner and many more items than ALDI. Unbelievably inexpensive overall. This wasn't a big shopping trip, I wanted to see the store and stock up on a few items. The items that I did get, when comparing to other stores besides ALDI, LIDL beat the competition with ease. I plan to make LIDL my regular store whenever possible as the prices and selection are just that good. I will have to remember to bring my own bags, but you can purchase paper bags here when checking out, or you can bring your own or find empty boxes throughout the store. I picked up empty boxes and that took care of my bagging problem. The building where this store is located looks brand new, looks like it was built for the store. The checkout lines, there were 8 that could be staffed, only one of them open when I was in as it was not busy at all and they could get away with it. The nice thing is that they have self checkout available, which is certainly one thing lacking at ALDI. i prefer self checkout when its available, even if I have a lot of items. It was certainly preferred on this trip. The store itself is laid out nicely, when you enter into the produce area and the bakery on the left. Frozen foods/dairy products down the first aisle and kind of wraps around the first part of this store, which meats in the refrigerated sections. Because its a Virginia store, plenty of beer, wine and various other types of alcoholic beverages were available. They also have extras, non-traditional grocery items that they have at ALDI and some of the Asian grocery stores in Northern Virginia. I certainly found lots of things to look at and explore, though today I stayed within just the grocery items I needed. I hadn't kept much track of pricing of items that I put in my cart, but was absolutely shocked, more like blown away when I rung up all of the items. $33 and change! What!?! How could that be? I can go into Harris Teeter or Whole Foods and sneeze and have spent that much money with like 5 items in my cart! Anyway, I'm impressed by this store and will definitely get back here as often as possible. Highly recommend checking this store out! Unfortunately the secret will be out before long and I'm sure this store will get packed and overwhelmed, but it won't stop me from returning! read more

Lidl has to be the cheapest grocery store brand in the U.S. The prices are ridiculously low but with decent qualities. Their bakeries, meats and dairy items are the best. The organic selection is nice but too expensive, especially if no substitute is available. The assortment in Europe is a lot better. They don't have quality meat (sausage), cheese and most Asian products (Vitasia). Go to Aldi, Wholefoods for meat, Giant for cheese and Globo for Asian products. It is a bit better organized and has more space than the Aldi across the street but they are a also a bit more expensive unless something is in promotion. read more

I would love to give this grocery store a perfect five stars. The selection is great and so are the people that work on the floor. However the cashiers are not as friendly. 90% of the time when I go there the cashier is a white male and will greet in a very friendly manner and say goodbye in a friendly manner to every other white person in front of me and behind me, but say nothing to me as an Indian female or are rude in their tone as well as rushing me. The funny thing is, I was born and raised here in Virginia and unfortunately I'm used to this kind of bias based on the color of my skin. If I were the manager of the store I would train the cashiers better and possibly make them take a class on cultural sensitivity. I have seen other minorities being treated rudely especially ones that have accents or are wearing culturally different clothing. read more

This is a fabulous German grocery store. Like Aldi but way bigger, has a bakery & more home & decor items. I like this no frills German grocery store concept. It works for me cause I can be in & out quick. Also unlike Costco, I don't have to buy in bulk. I prefer Lidl over Aldi because they still have the international section. Every time I have gone, I got unique & cool Italian, Spanish, Greek or Levantine foods & drinks. It keeps things interesting. Aldi used to do this too but stopped cause folks didn't buy enough of those items to make it worth it for the store to carry them. Sooooo for goodness sakes Yelpers, try those Spanish green olives or Greek stuffed grape leaves. Parking is plentiful here. Carts are free & not on loan for a quarter, which makes life easier. Bring your own bags or buy some from them. Their bakery, deli & freezer sections are my favorite. I have a harder time buying meat here. I'm not sure why. Prolly my fault. I'll have to keep trying. My only gripe with this place is that it's far. Open a store in the Reston, Herndon, Fairfax or Chantilly area plz. read more

I think grocery stores and retail stores are all about customer service. I went in today to buy 50 gallons of milk and 50 cartons of eggs for our non profit organization and both the managers were extremely rude and unhelpful. They both said that I would have to grab a cart and load all the stuff- and then later unload in my car because they decided that I would not be worth the time for them to help. The one employee who had started walking with me to help was intentionally called to do something else. With stores like Harris Teeter, Whole Foods and Giant nearby with excellent customer service skills I'm not stepping inside this store again. read more

Compared to Aldi, Lidil is refreshing. No need for a quarter for a cart, you can buy bags there if you need. They have more of a selection and it seems more organized. I come here to get certain items such as produce, eggs, milk, water. It is definitely cheaper. The only struggle I am having is not buying all my groceries at one place. I find I sometimes am spending more money going to multiple grocery stores. This is not the fault of of Lidil of course but my own, lol. Overall it is nice to have another option to shop at that is cheaper and quality of food still good. My go to grocery store is Wegmans so I'm used to a vast variety of food brands, fresh food etc. Coming to Lidl is different. Not a bad different, but not the same that im used to. The bakery is by far, the best part of this grocery store. The prices are ridiculously low and the quality is far superior than Wegmans (yup, said it). The rest of the store is kind of...hmmm...just thrown out there and fend for yourself kind of way. It reminded me of the Dollar Store and how they throw out random unknown brands for a reduced price. The produce looks fresh, but I only grabbed a few. The frozen food section has some brand names products, but it's limited. Overall, it's a nice grocery store. I wouldn't say that I would be able to get everything that I need for my big family, but a nice place to come back to for baked items. read more

I love Lidl! I'm a big fan of Aldi and in my opinion, Lidl is even better for a few reasons. For one, the bakery section is great! You can get any of the items you want sliced and you can do it yourself with their industrial slicer. Their "random" section is amazing and I always find weird but great things there. My recent find is a pair of black plastic Birkenstock knockoffs that were $5 compared to the real deal which are $90. I recommend going to Lidl to stock up on pantry staples because their way less money. I love the canned tomatoes and noodles there because you can easily make lots of food from their inexpensive raw ingredients. Great place and wonderfully nice staff. read more

My family and I enjoy shopping here and prices are pretty good! The store is always bright and clean and my sons love the little grocery carts for kids. They have great hormone free cheeses for good prices, as is their whole milk Greek yogurt (which can be hard to find), and their roses when they have them. Their produce is pretty competitively priced, and they always carry brocollini which I love! Their wine is amazing, as are their diapers and chicken bites (my boys request Lidl chicken constantly)! Checking out is often stressful as the clerks go quick and you bag your own- which is a challenge esp with kids. But their middle section with all the random seasonal goodies (from tools, to toys, to cloths- you never know what you'll see) can be fun and we enjoy their international food selections. Lidl definitely adds to how spoiled we are in this area with great grocery stores! read more

Went today after seeing the parking lot mobbed for the past week. Candidly, I just don't get it. It was a zoo, the selection seemed meh, I don't get the appeal of the hard goods (sneakers, clothing, coolers, etc.) in the middle of the store, the bakery is tiny, etc, etc. It is so similar to the new Aldi across the street and I see no competitive advantage. With so many other better options nearby (Wegmans, Whole Foods, HT, Giant, etc), I will not be returning. read more

This is our store. Prior we did shop mostly at Wegmen's. For a family that wants to make their budget go farther, this adds real dollars to their budget. I traveled to Denmark earlier this year and this is laid out like a European grocery store like REMA and Lidl is also in Denmark. I am amazed at how hard it is to crack $100 whereas at Whole Foods and lesser Wegmen's you easily crack the triple digits. Quality is good. Aisles are very wide so you don't feel claustrophobic when it's crowded. Selection is of course limited and you end up having to supplement with a regular grocery store. I'm so glad that they are about to open another one in Ashburn that is closer/more convenient to Leesburg. I've been to Aldi and don't like it. Fresh bread, rolls, pastries are good. Again, Lidl is a bargain basement grocery story with quality products/produce but you don't feel like your shopping at Walmart, etc. They do run out of things often when it's crowded and there are almost no one working there, but it's an appropriate trade-off to have your food budget go farther. We used to belong to Costco but I discontinued it to try and achieve the same cost savings without an annual membership. read more

The two stars are only for the products. I appreciate that Lidl locally sources produce. I think the prices are a good bit lower on certain produce items than other stores to include Walmart. I also really like the bakery. Can't beat fresh baked bread. Those are the positives for Lidls across the board. The negative applies to this Ashburn location only. This store has horrible customer service. In particular I have noticed that horrible customer service extended to ethnic people to include myself. Maybe racist employees, I don't know. For instance, in a check out line the ethnic customers don't get greeted while the non-ethnic customers do. Additionally, I personally had an employee stand way to close (like right under me in my personal space) in the self checkout line while I was scanning my groceries. She was making sounds of exasperation and tapping her feet while staring at me. She didn't do this to the other customers at the self checkout registers who all happened to be non-ethnic. I had an employee approach me with a nasty attitude because I needed help at self-checkout with scanning an item. Mind you I had been waiting over 5 minutes for help because there was no employee in attendance at the self checkout registers. I tried to give this location chances mostly because I like the produce and it's the closest store to me. But I'm done with this location. Looks like I'll have to travel a little further out to a different store which means I won't shop there as much. read more

I love this store. I have tried many of their products and I am not disappointed. I like their turkey bacon and organic sour cream. Their organic milk is also the cheapest, even cheaper than Costco. BEWARE... the SALE items are usually NOT AVAILABLE. Although this is an update of my review posted shortly after the store first opened over a year ago, the rating has not improved. We get so many Lidl ads promoting low prices but those items are usually out of stock (especially produce, seafood) or only very small quantities available. This has been ongoing frustration for my wife who handles our shopping going there at least once a week. She is happier going to the Aldi across the street where at least they stock the sale items. Other shortcomings with Lidl: the container of sanitizer wipes is usually empty; boxes and pallets are left in the aisles creating hazards; only one check-out cashier is ever available; the self-check machines are quirky, always malfunction and require intervention by human attendant; and their dinky produce bags are so small they can hardly fit a whole chicken. Lidl offers plenty of clothing and hard goods and tools to peruse, but just don't plan on finding the sale items in stock. read more
