Wifey and I checked out this place on a Saturday afternoon, just to see what the heck this was all about. So many people!! The store seemed like it was not well organized: Directly in front of me I see gallons of milk for $2.29...not bad...immediately next to the chocolate milk? A pressure washer, rubber boots, and orange juice. lol. What the heck!? But didn't bother us too much -- the place is just different from the traditional supermarket. We didn't like the way the meat was packaged: looked a little glossy! But I can't comment on the quality until I actually buy it. I'll skip for now. Wound up with $36 worth of groceries :) Go figure. And I actually bought a lot of stuff. Hard working people there. Bring your own bags. Btw, we ended up going there again the week after to stock up on stuff. I like this place, despite its confusing arrangement of goods up and down each aisle. read more

This place is a dump, They are always out of stock on advertised specials. The supervisor Allison is way too immature to be a supervisor. I watched her dress down a customer returning an item ( with a line of other customers waiting and watching) There are better ways to handle an irate customer. The lack of experience really shows. They really need to hire more professionals and less kids running this place I am not surprised if this store will close. And in my opinion should be shutdown. read more

Lidl is my favorite grocery store! It has the great prices and simplicity of aldi, but a more welcoming atmosphere. All the food I've bought there has been great quality, and I especially love the bakery section. I also appreciate that there isn't an excess of options like you would find at a store like wegmans. (There's no need to have 10 different types of olive oil!) It's always fun to see what the specials are since they change every week. The workers seem friendly and it's just a nice place to be. I have been really pleased with this store. The Prices are basically outlet grocery prices and there are good options for food (organic produce/no antibiotic meat) and cheap supplies/clothes in the middle. Our grocery bills are a good $50 cheaper than going to the bigger named stores. They don't have 10 varieties of the same item like the bigger stores but I've been pleased with their quality. The cashiers don't touch the groceries for bagging so you're experience at check out can feel rushed to get out of the way if the next shopper. Also, the location point on the yelp map is wrong somehow. Address is correct but it's south of the greenway not up near route 7. At the end of the day I'm a huge fan, oh and wine is very cheap! I've been shopping at the store since it opened. I use to go to Aldi's, Costco and Wegman's and Giant. Each week, a new flyer comes out, when you check out they have next week's waiting for you. I noticed a couple of complaints on produce, every experience I've had is as good if not better than the other stores (watermelon, strawberries, blueberries best I've ever had). Some do not like the selection (not wide enough). I get by. Over the past months, I bet we've saved thousands by capitalizing on their deals (chips, bakery, produce, meats, cheeses, beer, wine). Also on laundry and paper products, they are great. Absolutely love this store; perfect combo on quality and prices!!! read more

I think this store needs help quickly. I've been going to this store every week for close to a year. My first impressions were really good. Some of the older stores in this chain are beaten down and grimy. The store in Ashburn looked very clean and organized. Employees used to be pleasant and would greet you. The store was a joy. Then things began to change for the worse. The customer service declined suddenly. When you would interact with employees it was like watching a bunch of demotivated robots shuffling around. They didn't want to talk to you, and if they had to they acted inconvenienced. I started seeing managers being openly rude to customers when they would try to ask questions or return items. There was a week where a manager held up a line of customers to dress down a customer in front of other customers because the customer was trying to return an item that was past it's prime. The way it was done was very unprofessional. During the last 3 weeks the store has been doing major experiments with it's layout during shopping hours. Everything in the store is being moved around from week to week. It's impossible to figure out where a product you like to buy went, and the employees either have no idea if the object still exists in the store, or they don't want to take the time to show you. When you walk into a grocery store you expect the store to have easy to find sections like a dairy section, a water section, or a bakery section. With this store they started dismantling all of that. You might find the milk with the milk, or you might find the dairy section is gone and now there is a bunch of toilet paper. I feel like a guinea pig at this store. When I went to the store this week, the night shift had completely took the store apart without informing the day shift personnel. This day shift employees didn't know where things were and all of the customers were walking around grumbling as they tried to figure out where to find things. I got frustrated and ended up abandoning over half of my grocery list. I ended up going to a competitor store so I could get what I needed and even started considering whether I wanted to continue as a LIDL customer. It's just got too complicated to shop at the store, and I don't like playing games when I buy food. I just want to walk in and find what I need. I don't want to do a treasure hunt. When the store was organized still, the store began having random but consistent stock outs. One week the rice would be missing, another week no tomato sauce, or the pizzas would be gone. I've also seen empty shelves in the bakery department. Sale items get hit by stock out problems. You'll go to the freezer section to take advantage of a sale on chicken and the entire freezer would be empty. I also have been finding that a lot of the perishable items have extremely short expiration dates on them. You go to buy a loaf of bread and the expiration date is 2 days from the time of purchase. This store needs help badly. I think it could be fixed if attention was given, but if they leave it as it is I see this store closing up. read more

My complaints are exactly what Cassie R. said verbatim! I loved the store when it first opened and it has been going downhill since. I go for the great prices and variety of cheeses, but once you find an item you enjoy, the next week it is no longer being carried by the store. I thought the wine selection and prices were terrific, but they changed some of their wines and no longer have great wines or prices. I went there today for the purified water and none was available in the entire store ( it is Tuesday before the change in sale items tomorrow) so I walked out of the store after putting my items back totally frustrated. This was the first time I could get to the store at a reasonable time (3PM) and no stock of items on sale that week were available. Another point of despair with this store is the lack of cashiers, even though I use self-checkout, lines are long. The corporate office cannot staff one store and yet are building more in Ashburn! Disappointed...loyal customer no longer. read more

I live w/in walking distance and visit the store probably 3-4 times a week. Between Aldi, and Lidl, we really only go to the other stores in the area for fresh lunch meat, and a few specialty items. I only have two complaints. The first being the lack of open check out lines. Sometimes during the week, there isn't a single one lit up to take customers, and doing self checkout with my kids along is a nightmare! Second, I wish you had at least a couple more cart return areas out in the parking lot. I'm perfectly fine with walking the 20-30 steps that it takes to return mine by the door (even with two little kids in my arms), but it seems to be a bit of an issue for many people in Ashburn. Every day the parking lot is littered with stray carts, sometimes only 10 feet away from where they are supposed to go. Maybe having even more places to return them will encourage others to not be so lazy and inconsiderate. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Lidl in Germany, the UK, and Ireland for many, many years. Now living in Arlington VA, I was happy with Lidl expanding to the U.S. - until today. I simply tried return a brand new auto battery starter that proved to be defective the first time I needed to use it a couple weeks ago, and was given a difficult time by store employees including the manager. After finally agreeing to give me a store credit for the defective product, the manager tried to cheat me out of half of what I had paid for the product, for which I had the receipt clearly showing I paid full price. I refused to accept the half price offer, so he asserted that Lidl "policy" made it impossible for him to give me what i had paid for it, and my only recourse was to next speak with Lidl Corporate Headquarters. I thanked the manager and two other employes involved and drove to Lidl headquarters in Arlington VA, where a very nice receptionist explained there was no customer service available in the Arlington Lidl HQ office, nor would there be anyone in the HQ building available to speak to me under any circumstances, bye-bye. After now wasting many hours and many gallons of gas finding out the hard way that neither the Lidl Ashburn VA store nor the Lidl U.S. Headquarters have any customer service - literally, I contacted my credit card company and they agreed to dispute the charge with Lidl for the defective battery starter they sold me. All this needless hassel for what - instead of the Lidl Ashburn manager simply giving me a credit in full for what i paid, as clearly shown on my receipt, they have to try to screw me out of $20.00, why? So what, now I write Lidl off, never say another positive word about how great Lidl is to friends - just that they screwed me - and simply start shopping at one of many similar alternative stores, hello Aldi. read more
