I've been disappointed with Harris Teeter for a long time, but yesterday sealed it for me. The day to day issues add up. The deli meat and cheese are always labeled with a "sell by" date that's literally the day after they pack it, and they refuse to sell smaller portions. Their bakery bread is often rock-hard instead of fresh. And their prices are consistently higher than any other grocery store in the area. But the final straw was the seafood. Yesterday I bought a pound of shrimp, got it home, opened the package, and was hit with the strongest rotten smell I've ever experienced from seafood. It was completely spoiled. I had to throw it out immediately, and the odor was so bad I had to air out my entire house, in 25 degree weather, just to get rid of it. At this point, the quality doesn't match the prices, and the experience isn't worth the frustration. I go mainly for the deli but they stopped stocking some items I eat after the recall last year and never bothered to stock again. Disliked going to the deli anyway because a lot of the employees don't seem trained on how to cut meat. They don't want to slice it thin or they slice it haphazardly, thick and thin from one side of the slice to the other. It just comes off lazy. There's always multiple people back there and you seem like you're bothering them trying to order. I don't really blame the employees, I blame the store. read more

Horrible customer service. The Starbucks has some of the rudest employees i've ever met. they constantly get orders wrong and i had to wait 30-45 minutes to get a drink. This Harris Teeter is my new go-to grocery store for when I need to pick up something to take to work as it is right on my route to work - yep - you guessed it - the "Fabled and Legendary Northwest Passage." :-) Everyone has been very friendly and outgoing and always looking to help whenever I come in here (And it's right across the street from Yelper Sam R's house!) My latest HT conquest involved restocking the work kitchen with spices and hot sauces for use with lunch. I bought several brands/flavors of hot sauce, garlic salt, white pepper, chili powder, and Old Bay. read more

I stopped doing my main grocery shopping here years ago because of the filth and poor service -- but use it rarely when I need one or two items and do not want to drive to Wegmans. It's good when I need to run out and grab something because it's so close by but honestly it's all a little over priced. My main complaint is how rude one of the staff was during my last visit. I was headed to the self checkout with a bottle of wine and the employee supervising self check out ran right up to me and began pestering me to see my ID before I could even set my items down to get my wallet out. I did just turn 21 and understand that I have a very young face so it's not that I'm surprised or even upset that he carded me, but he inavaded my space and was extremely pushy with me. read more

Tonight, 10/7/2017 at around 10:40 pm (our receipt is time stamped at 10:56pm), we encountered a very rude and arrogant store employee (perhaps a store manager or assistant manager). This all started when we paid for our purchase along with a request for cash back. The cashier named Jacob, gladly and respectfully took care of us, when a lady on the other cashier station butted in saying "we don't do cash back after 10pm." My husband replied to her that we did not know the policy of your store and she replied back RUDELY that she is letting us know and now we know. My husband said again, we did not know and she was still insistently rude. I replied to her saying "there is a better way of saying that" and then she rudely and arrogantly turned her back at us without any apology. All of the store personnel at that time were just watching us and your store personnel are mostly young teens. They were given an example of how to treat a customer, rudely, arrogantly and unprofessionally. First, instead of embarrassing or treating the customers that way, you should have a sign that cash back in no longer allowed after 10pm. Second, your cashier should have been trained to be informative of such policy and lastly, your cash registers should have been configured not to give cash back at a certain time. I believe the name iof this person who was rude to us is Darrian, and you can confirm by watching your video in this store at that timeframe how she treated us. She should have not shown such rude behavior in front of the younger employees. She is not a good example, as an adult and as part of management, if she is. Finally, she should know how to break her temper and how to apologize when the customer tells her there is a better way of delivering her message and not turning her back against the customer. She should not be in a customer service business with this kind of attitude. read more

10:30am 1 check out person with a significant line. Produce is chronically rotten. Always a Wait at the deli counter only to be ignored by the employees doing other things. Over all this is a terrible grocery store and it's even more surprising that it is a Harris teeter. And even more surprising that it is a Harris teeter in Brambleton VA. (One of the nicest parts of the COUNTRY!!!!!). -Lastly On my latest adventure to this store I was directed To the self serve check out line by an employee who seemed like he was going to help check me out. I was in the full service line with a cart full of groceries at the time. Any way, I followed him to the self check out line and he just walked off and I lost my place in the ONLY full service CHECK OUT LINE open. The staff is friendly and I love that this is open 24/7. I have had nights coming back from the city where nothing is open except Mickey Ds (mcdonalds if you didn't already know) and that's not an option for me. So it's nice to come in here and pick items that I can either make at home or that are ready to eat/drink right away. While those points are nice, the items and groceries are more expensive than places like Wegmans or Giant. Plus I feel the level of product isn't as good as Wegmans either. Obviously it's silly of me to compare the two since both are on different levels of grocery shopping. As far as groceries I'll stick with Wegmans but should I have a late night craving for something to munch on, this joint will be where I head too. read more

THIS ICE CREAM HAS PEANUTS. It is not like every other brands' waffle cone crunch, it has peanuts, it doesn't say this on the front or in any immediately viewable area. I suffered a severe reaction from this ice cream. HARRIS TEETER MUST CLEARLY MARK ITEMS CONTAINING ALLERGENS. They are not safe for people with allergies, shop elsewhere if you want safe products to choose from. I've never seen an item with peanuts/peanut butter not clearly indicate it includes peanuts on the label except at this store. Save lives, shop elsewhere. read more

My experience at this particular Harris Teeter was appalling to say the least. The service was why this store got a one star in my eyes. Not only was the cashier, Fatima, awfully rude to me, but also my family whom I was with. We went at 8 pm on a wendsday so it wasn't busy. She had a bad attitude from the beginning, she greeted us with a do u have a card, first of all I'm well how are you and second off what card?! and when we came back to return an item one of their customer service clerks, fatima was also rude to us. Horrible customer service as soon as me and my friends walked into that store we were greeted with a scowl from a very unfriendly staff member who's name I just found out is Vanessa W. When me and my friends were ready to check out she looked like she was still very unhappy we were there and then I proceeded to try to be friendly to make things less awkward and asked "how she was doing?" she proceeded to look me up and down and said "...I'm good...how are you?" And I said "I'm doing alright just a little hot" and she had the audacity to shake her head and roll her eyes at me and stopped talking. Luckily for her my friend saw how I felt extremely disrespected by her and took me outside before I went off on her for doing so. I love this store! Much like Neal, this store is right around the corner from my house and its open 24 hours. One of the nice things about this is they have tons of free samples of their food all around the store, so it gives it that Wegman's feel. Also, if you have little kids, its great because they give them free sugar cookies and balloons. It's new, clean and has everything that would normally go to any other grocery store, so its a winner in my book! read more

Another mediocre encounter at Harris Teeter. Customer service is a foreign concept at this location. The cashier never looked and/or directed conversation towards me. Okay, I guess I am one of the few non Harris Teeter fans out there. This is the closest grocery store to us. I generally will drive a little farther to go elsewhere. I feel that the prices at Harris Teeter are very high compared to other grocery stores. The bakery isn't as good as other stores. I think if you shop the sales and coupon you do okay there, but as a Mom of two I don't always get the chance to sit down and figure all of that out. read more

With all of the competition in grocery I simply don't understand how this place is tolerated. Produce is always suspect, the prices aren't competitive, plus Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Wegman's, Costco, and Giant are all immeasurably better. Sad that it's right across the street from me. read more

Sorry to say not much has changed at this HT. The employees are usually nice but the store itself is poorly maintained. Doors still fail to open all the way consistently... floors in the entryways need pressure washing and garbage receptacles just outside the doors are not seen to regularly enough and are frequently overflowing. Online shopping!. Rosario is the personal shopper I usually have. Delightful lady! Finally met her face-to-face. She follows my requests to the letter and calls me if she has a question. Using online shopping has revolutionized our at home dining and saved me atleast 1/3 of my grocery costs over the past year. Highly Recommend! Update-10/28/18 time has past and I've experienced HT does not have the best Produce department. Now, if I need to buy produce which I usually do, I go to Wegmans. The only time I stay with Harris Teeter is when I am very short on time and need something immediately. (It helps that they are a half a mile away from my home. That makes a big difference. Ever time I visit this Pharmacy theirs at least 3+ customers in line and takes forever to pick up prescriptions. When you do actually wait they either don't have it filled yet or have your wrong or old insurance from years ago on file. Crazy thing is they have 4-5 people working behind the counter. Why do you guys have a big 24 hour sign if you're going to close at 10:50pm? It's not a holiday... The kids there were giving me the neckslice gesture and started blocking the entrance with shopping carts. Thankfully, the Southern Walk Plaza Harris Teeter was open 24 hours so I went there instead. Just wanted to share my poor experience with the Harris Teeter workers before, which is also a reason why I'm giving them a 1 star. I went to the customer service desk because my harris teeter gift card I received from a friend did not work at any harris teeter nearby. The worker there couldn't solve my problem so they called a manager to assist me. A fat female manager came out and tried something and just gave it back to me saying "I dunno why it's not working". I stood there staring at her, waiting for her to say more. She didn't. I was complaining because the value in the gift card was declining due to nonuse over a year. I asked her "If Harris Teeter doesn't accept a gift card issued by harris teeter, who does?" and there she stood with a "idunno" face saying I'll have to take it to the corporate. I was bummed, she later offered to "investigate" the issue by taking my gift card and writing down my phone number. Over 6 months have passed and I did not receive a single call from Harris Teeter, nor did I ever get to use the $25 gift card. I only go here because they're the closest market, but I hate giving business here. They know that we'll continue using this place no matter the poor service. read more

Horrible customer service and rude arrogant manager. They make up policies on their own. The staff and manager said the return policy is 30 days. I was returning OTC medicine. I was earlier told it was 15 days by another associate at an earlier date. When I asked for a written policy I was pointed to it on the customer service desk. The policy said 60 day in clear plain english. Upon pointing that out to the manager on duty at night shift on 11/09/16, 11 PM, he got rude asking me to leave, which I did vs making a show. The reason - i told him it is written clear in plain english that policy is 60 days and he and His staff just make it up anything. I have been extremely disappointed with this Harris Teeter, but particularly with the pharmacy staff who violate every HIPPA law out there. They discuss my personal business and medication with friends or family that are picking up my medication. They shout the names of my medications and questions about them from across the other end of the counter where anyone in line or nearby could hear. I am constantly being harassed about the medications I am taking. If she has a concern, she can tell me once, not 20 times. When I stopped being friendly towards her (but not unfriendly) she started to creating new rules about when I can pick up my medications, changing it from what was a month since I called in, to a month since I picked up. She tells me I can pick up a RX on a certain date and I get there and she tells me to wait 2 more days, not because they don't have it, but because she has arbitrarily decided she wants me to wait longer. The grocery staff are nice, although the deli is extremely slow. I waited 30 minutes for some sliced meat on a slow day at the store and when I got back, he said he forgot. Another problem is that the food is often expired or close to expiring. Fruit is picked too soon such that it never ripens. Lastly whenever I go to pick up an item on sale, I am always, and I mean always greeted with an empty shelf. read more
