Great Pennsylvania Dutch style meals with portions that will leave you full. Huge plates, friendly staff, and delicious gravy covered food. Classic Family Diner style. I'm from California, it was my first time on the east coast, and when we asked around Reading for a good PA Dutch restaurant to go to, several townsfolk recommended Wegman's Reeser Restaurant. This a place that has been around for quite some time, over 60 years in fact. With that being said, the place is also huge and has a large amount of local characters who establish the place. If you want a sense of what the locals are doing, if much older ones this is the place to also hear some great conversations. As for Dutch options, the menu is pretty much though like any other diner. Still there are some things that stick out. Service is flat out extremely homely and warming. My steak since it was folded on one side didn't get cooked all the way through. Hindsight somewhat missing, but a quick simple request to the waitress to throw it back on, ended up with a perfectly cooked flank/skirt steak. Some things here though excel food wise but others dont. Go for the veal, with it's simple breading and get the beets as a side. Also an option for a side is "filling" as they call it, a sort of mashed like potato with other ingredients and gravy. Gravy is also nicely done here, I would suggest looking for menu options that have it, such as open faced items and so on. Don't bother with side vegetables here either (ie. the peas ecspecially). The desserts you find here will be nicely and simply crafted as of any straightforward bake sale. Nothing fancy, just good and wholesome. i would suggest the top options above, there's a bit of strategic ordering, but that aside if you come here you will be treated real right. read more

Wegman's is just another option for Pennsylvania Dutch fare in the greater Berks County area. It is a diner populated by the locals - mostly elder locals coming in from church on Sunday morning. We went here for my great uncle's birthday. He used to be a regular with his wife every weekend before she passed away - but that was ages ago. On a recent return visit, he said that the place hasn't changed much! The food is delicious and the portions are nice for the price. read more

Stopped here on mothers day .First off the waitresses were very snippy ask for more creamer ya think the creamer was coming out of their paycheck . Anyway I ordered just slice of scrapple and ordered it crispy when brought out it was soggy so soggy I would not eat it .I told the waitress really nicely that is was soggy and didn t want it and she replied well I did the best I could really you do the cooking and the waiting table I don t think so .To make a long story short I would not recommend this place to my dogs . Really servers are nasty with no reason to be .I could see if we were snippy or nasty but we were not. If you do go and want to order the specials good luck cause they don t mean anything . read more

Good food, Lousy Service The best way to describe this place is picture yourself eating a meal at your Grandmother`s home. Good food, nothing spicy or fancy. Just all the basic PA Dutch meals. But, like your Grandmother`s home the place hasn`t been remodeled in 30 or 40 years and it shows. The younger crowd will not like this place just from the looks alone. While I like the food and have eaten there several times, my last visit the service was terrible. Stopped in after 1pm Sunday, including us there was 11 customers there total with two being retired guys milking a coffee at the lunch counter. There was only one waitress and the manager (?). Waitress couldn`t even take a simple order. All I wanted was two Dutch style BBQ`s, one turkey and one pork (the type you get on a hamburger roll). Waitress just couldnt understand my order. She even came over to my side of the table so I could point on the menu what I wanted. After 20-25 minutes my order came out, a single (what looked like Turkey) sandwich on 2 pieces plain bread with a gravy boat. Asked where my second one was and she told me that`s how they make it there and walked away. Cut it in half and realize they mixed both turkey and pork meat on the same sandwich. Ate it as I was hungry but it was another 20 before the waitress came back with the next table`s order. She messed up that order too. Fellow ordered a steak meal and the waitress didnt bring out his mash potatoes. (Just a steak on a plate and nothing else.) He asked where there were and the waitress answer was, I didnt write it down on the order. Guessed you did not want any. What steak meal comes with no sides at all? She walked away from us and I had to yell after her for a soda refill. At that point I just wanted to get out of there. Walked up the pay the bill and had to waited 5-10 minutes for the manager to come out of the back just to take my money. Told her about my screwed up order, she didnt say one word about it. We went here for breakfast and I do not want to return. This place is not very clean, has a strange smell, and the food and service were not very good. The people are nice but that is really the only nice thing that I can say. read more

The staff was nice and the prices are FANTASTIC! I'm taking one star off because last week I ordered the number 5 Country style. Three eggs, homefries, onions and peppers with ham. I ordered it and it came scrambled and all mashed together. I didn't eat any (I got a take out container to give it to someone else) because I personally don't like when my potatoes and eggs are mixed together. I just like to have a bite of egg, separate from a bite of homefries. I was more imagining like an omelet. Looking at googled pics of 'country style breakfast' online, some are scrambled & mixed together, some have fried eggs, on top of a pile of homefries, etc. So it's more my fault that I didn't know what it was however as a suggestion you can describe it in the description, as it is an egg scramble mixed together with homefries, because to me, I took the title meaning as like 'southern comfort food' like a big hardy breakfast not a 'mashed scramble'. Or at least have the server explain what you are getting (with the googled pictures some might also think fried eggs on top of homefries.) It looked tasty and I'm sure to whoever ate it it was, it's just adding a description of what it actually is would be helpful because some people are picky food eaters just like myself. :) read more

Absolutely horrible! After attending a funeral of a family member went here for the luncheon. Put in a room in the back where the one window air conditioner did not work. With a large group of people it was so hot! Our waitress was dripping in sweat and rolled her eyes at family members. When she brought out the food she was yelling. Duct tape was holding a lot of things together. The worse experience ever! Wouldn't even give one star rating! read more

Ate there before at least food before was ok. But not yesterday, ordered a well done cheeseburger. It came barely cooked and warm, as pale as white milk, with grease running all over my hands and plate. I said this is well done certainly NOT. I ate two bites took home for dog hope he can eat it, made me sick. Definitely will not return! read more

I went here for a large family gathering. The room wasn't set, the staff were rude and unprofessional, and the food was questionable.

The waitress was very nice. The food portions were small, the baked potato was dried out and tasteless, and the coffee was the worse my husband and I ever tasted. We were so disappointed as we would drive out of our way to eat at this restaurant. We will not be eating at this restaurant again. read more
