For the past couple months, I've been on a ridiculous Italian Sub/Chef Salad kick. Like, it's all I can think about. I'm also going a bit nuts with delivery. So while my wallet is taking an absolute thrashing, I'm finding new places to order from each and every day. One place I stumbled upon during my latest Italian sub shop deep dive was Lattanzio Sandwiches. Def don't think I would have known they even existed had their name not popped up on Doordash. As an added bonus, their Doordash rates (as far as I can tell) are the same as if you'd place an order with them directly. That's for sure appreciated (though I hope Doordash isn't taking a big cut of their sales). Their Italian hoagie is filled to the brim with ham, salami, capicola.. basically the whole gambit of pork cold cuts. And you have to add the sweet peppers that comes in this relish style. One thing I love about these sandwiches is you get the layer of meat, then the lettuce, tomato, and onion as usual, but then there's a whole other layer of meat on top of that. So it's like double the meat you'd find at the "other guy's" sub shop. One thing I'm not a fan of is the propensity to push the soft roll on you. There was even an option to pick either a hard roll or soft roll. First time I got the soft roll. It wasn't satisfying. Next time I selected the hard roll. When the sandwich arrived, it was still on a soft roll. I had flashbacks to all the times I got Italian subs and how much better they are on hard rolls, so I was really looking forward to it. Maybe they were just out that day? The Chef Salad was super good. Really generous with the cheese and meat. Plus, you get an added option to add extra onions. If you love onions and don't plan on being intimate with anyone later, Lattanzio's will gladly pile them on. Really love the cheese factor. There are honestly some restaurants that charge extra just to add cheese to a Chef Salad. Here, the minimum amount is basically an entire layer covering the lettuce. And speaking of lettuce, that is my only gripe. It's chopped iceberg. Basically zero nutrients. I know I'm eating a super unhealthy salad topped with a ton of cheese and deli meats, but even switching to romaine would be a huge upgrade. That would make me feel a little less guilty. God honest take - if I lived closer, I'd order from Lattanzio a few times a month. Hell, I don't live that close and I still order from them a few times per month. So yeah, let me amend that. If I lived closer, I'd probably order from here at least once a week. And my order would be a couple salads and subs. This place is legit. read more

I decided to look for a cheesesteak while I was in Reading. My main trip was to Russo's Market. I found this hideaway on Yelp. Drove there using Maps. It's a small place. Everyone is attentive and hard workers. I own a pharmacy so can make that statement. I looked up at the menu wall, saw Special Italian and ordered it on a hard roll with hot peppers in oil. Here's the twist m. I didn't get to eat it until the next day and the day after that. I am a foodie. This sub/hoagie rocks. If the taste I had was better the first day I couldn't tell. First off they only accept cash. Didn't know but had to run to the gas station down the street to get some...came back got my sandwiches. When I opened them up when I got home, steak meat poured out. The sandwiches were stuffed with meat but the sauce was bland and light on cheese. Can't say I'd go back but if quantity matters this places first with that. read more

They don't accept cards, but they are nice enough to let you know when you call in your order. Food is always prepared as ordered and with pride. I have lived in the Reading area most of my life and had plenty of good sandwiches without having to leave south of penn. Lattanzio's is a definite diamond in the rough, place a Lil run down. Nevertheless you will get the most for your money, no matter what you order. I guess if there is one sandwich that stood out by far cheesesteaks. These sandwichs were gushing with meat and flavor. You could have gone home and made another sandwich So I did. The flavors are mouth watering. The roll never gets soggy. They also have hot peppers in oil, and they do not charge extra like some others do-get the hell out! People, this is the place, no need to go anywhere else. I'm happy because it's in my neighborhood. Yes staff very friendly and they do interact. They have a pretty extensive menu. I have only had cheese steak and italian. This place is serious about their cheesesteaks ! Oil fried hot peppers, wow. Two types of rolls, hard and soft. They do a blending of the cheese the steak the sauce and the peppers. Nice.
