I've lived in this area my entire life. I grew up on eating pretty "OK" cheesesteaks and survived just fine. I also have driven to Philly for a "real" cheesesteak and have had a number of great sandwiches locally in the last few years. I've heard a lot of good stuff about JD's and decided to check it out. If you're a local foodie, you know there are probably 3 sandwich joints that everyone swears by, and JD's is one of them, so we were very excited to give this a whirl. I had a quick trip one night after work, and we were getting home around 630, so we called in an order to JDs. There was a big mix up with our order (not knocking anyone for that, stuff happens) and our order was prepared again in record time and got home. We ordered 2 different cheesesteaks and some garlic parm fries. So let me get this out of the way, the cheesesteaks were good. Nothing at all wrong with them, but they were very much a "Berks County" cheesesteak... I don't know how else to describe it, but if you grew up here in the 90s, this tasted exactly like every cheesesteak you've had at a pizza shop or sandwich shop in the past. There is NOTHING wrong with that. I thought it was good, but it was just a good sandwich, nothing to write home about. The fries, were cold before we got home , and while you get A LOT of fries, they were just fine once we reheated them in the air fryer. They tasted good, they had decent seasoning, but again nothing special. The staff was nice, cannot complain about service, fixed the mistake quickly and got us on our way. If you want just a good cheesesteak, and good fries, this is your place... its just a very good sandwich shop with good food. Nothing wrong with that, if this was my neighborhood shop I would have no problem eating here regularly, and maybe I ordered the wrong style of sandwich and I need to try again (I will). read more

First time here. The hostess was very friendly when she took our orders to go. The place is nicely decorated and has plenty of room to sit and enjoy the food. I ordered a cheesesteak hoagie on seeded bun, a chicken cheesesteak, fries and a coconut cream pecan dessert. Total $48.00. Pricey but great sandwiches - my only disappointment were the fries. They give you a nice portion but they place them in a paper bag so they lose their crunch and they are soggy and limp. I ask for advice on what I should order for my first cheese steak sandwich and was directed to the Philly Philly. It did not disappoint! It was incredible! Ambrosia on a bun. The food was delicious and the hostess was very polite and quick with ordering. Food took about 15 minutes too arrive at the table and started with cheese fries. They were covered with salty whiz (not complaining) and were delicious. The peanut butter cookie I purchased at the front was also delicious. The kickin philly steak with a double seeded roll is what I received and it was delicious in every way. Eagles fans will appreciate the decorations inside, as they are also purchasable. Would give a 4.5 just for price point. It is not a cheap lunch by any means, even for just a steak. Highly recommend if you're willing to spend a buck. read more

Let's just say if you love Philly this little gem in sinking springs right outside reading will help you with that craving, we stopped in for lunch today and left stuffed and simply put satisfied, jd's makes some killer sandwiches, amazing fresh cut fries that in my opinion trump those down on the boardwalk, the service is top notch, the ambiance is especially awesome if you love the city of Philadelphia and Philly sports, but make sure to leave room for dessert because Marissa's homemade "black Joe" cake with peanut butter icing is on an entire other level of deliciousness, we can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious sandwiches. read more

I read a lot of reviews on fb about this place. It was finally time to try it. They do not have a parking lot. It is street parking only. We were greeted by the lady behind the counter when we walked in. She explained that you order at the counter, and you are welcome to sit at a table and eat, but the food comes wrapped to go. When you order you are asked if you want a seeded or Non- seeded roll. We ordered the Original Cheesesteak, WIT, cooper sharp and a side of their house sauce. (WIT = with onions. Philly slang) We also ordered the Drunken Chicken sandwich which has Vodka Sauce, fresh mozzarella and crispy prosciutto. We also ordered a side of fresh cut fries. When we walked in there were only two other people in there, but the place got busy within 5 minutes between phone orders and walk-in's. Our food came out in about 10 minutes, I thought that was pretty good since there was a phone order for 6 sandwiches right in front of us. The fries came in a paper bag, there were enough for a family of four! The bag was close to half full. Let me say that my wife is not a typical fan of the shaved rib eye cheesesteak. She prefers the chipped steak kind. She approves of this one! She was pleasantly surprised by the taste and the ribeye didn't seem overly fatty. The seeded roll added to the taste as well. The drunken chicken came in a box cut in half. There was plenty of chicken, the sauce was good and it was toasted. Very good sandwich! I am glad we finally came here, there cheesesteak I would put up next to any Philly steak. The seeded roll added to the flavor on both sandwiches. Our bill came to $50 for 2 sandwiches, side of sauce, fries and a soda with tip. We will be back, this place is now my personal Best Cheesteak in Berks County! read more

This is the second time that I have ordered from here first time was wonderful. This time I was looking forward to this Philly cutlet sub. It was dry. I think there was cheese on the bread, but you couldn't see it. The broccoli rabe on it well I originally am not from here so I didn't know that the Philly puts red pepper in it, which I am very sensitive too. But kept the sandwich because that's my fault that I didn't look into it, but I did eat the cutlet and did not taste any balsamic on it. Was disappointed with this sub. read more

Different Cheesesteak'esque sandwich #1176. I got the 'this week only' Kielbasa cheesesteak special and a cheesesteak pretzel braid. The pretzel roll was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The pretzel was dense, doughy and chewy. The cheesesteak portion was easy to eat. Maybe needed a touch more seasoning. The Kielbasa cheesesteak was very good. Very good amount of kielbasa. The kielbasa had a ton of smoking flavor. It was cut nicely and stayed in the roll while you ate it. The reason for only three stars is because I ordered my food on the phone and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived, paid and was told they were just putting mine on the grill! I might as well just waited until I arrived to place my order. It wasn't a terribly long wait, but I ordered it in advance because I didn't want to wait at all, as I had somewhere I needed to be. But it's actually a sandwich shop. And a very good one at that. They specialize in Philly-style cheese steaks with plenty of variations - the widest variety of steak sandwiches that I've ever seen. Ex-Employee here, he treated me badly my first official day. Told me if I can't take orders and phone calls the next day, without training may I say, that I can grab my purse and get out. Today I went and picked up my money I earned for the two days I worked, he threw it at me over the counter and my mom stood up for me saying he didn't have to throw it.
