Breakfast buffet

Cheers is located inside the Double Tree hotel, so it is super convenient. The menu has something for everyone and the staff are friendly and go out of their way to talk to each diner. The food is delicious, and the decor is welcoming.

Flounder with Rice Pilaf and Broccolini

Overall 84/100 -- was completely dead when we went, get the salmon Went here on a Tuesday night at 8pm and were the only people in the entire restaurant. They lit the fire and turned on the music for us, which was a nice touch. Overall the ambience was very nice and they took care of us. It's rare I order seafood from a landlocked state but the menu was small enough that you either could get steak, seafood, or a wrap. I went with the special of the day which was a flounder with rice pilaf. The flounder was good but the salmon was much better, would only recommend the salmon. The rice pilaf was good as well as the broccolini. The mashed potatoes were fantastic and the roasted vegetables were what you'd expect. Also had the ice cream cheesecake which was odd and wouldn't get again. Bill came out to about 120 for 2 glasses of wine, 2 seafood entrees, and a dessert. Overall, had a great dinner.

They allowed me to bring cupcakes!

I have to give props to Cheers American Bistro in the Reading Doubletree Hilton. They are literally everything! They helped me put together a graduation celebration dinner for my daughter. They assisted me with the menu, provided a lovely space for our party and even accommodated us when the party was larger than originally planned. All while preparing for a prom, another graduation, a wedding and Mother's Day! Karla Smith, the manager, was excellent with communicating with me over the last two months of planning. Our head server, Gia, and the rest of the wait staff, gave us service with a smile and were very affable. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful. It was the perfect evening for my baby! I absolutely couldn't have picked a better place!

The hotel restaurant for the Doubletree. I was there for breakfast and dinner and both were very good. Modern upscale decor and there were table tops, booths and regular tables. Breakfast was a buffet and I believe they had stuff to order from the menu as well. The buffet was pretty good actually. Better than most hotel buffets. Eggs to order as well as the usual bacon, sausage and ham. They also had biscuits and gravy as well as pancakes. Fresh fruit, toast and pastries. The dinner was great too. I had the gnocchi with braised beef and the lobster bisque. Both were delicious. This place is a great option whether you are staying at the hotel or not.

Juice and cereal bar

This breakfast buffet continues to be top notch. Made to order omelets and Belgian waffles with loads of toppings, bacon, sausage, oatmeal bar with toppings, fresh fruit, muffins, danishes, assorted juices...it's the bee's knees! Top all that off with great service from the staff (shout out to Grace!) and why would you want to eat breakfast any other place in Reading?

Steak and shrimp

Highly rated hotel restaurant in downtown Readng at the Doubletree. The hotel has won many awards. The restaurant is very bust but the staff moves quickly and the service is excellent. Food is top notch with a diverse menu. Really nice experience. This spot is a winner, both literally and figuratively.

I don't know if it was an off night or what, but I came here after a concert in town as their kitchen was still open at 10:30pm. The best part of my experience was the personable bartender. He was awesome. I ordered a medium rare burger with smoked gouda cheese. The burger came out well done and was not juicy and the patty used didn't seem to be anything special. The bread was OK and the burger was eh all around. It was definitely a 2/3 star burger, not worth the $13. I immediately regretted ordering it after taking a bite and wished I went for the lobster mac they had on the menu instead (15). Where the experience really took a dive was when I asked for a doubleshot of espresso. It was late at this point; perhaps 11pm and I get that they were closing up. One of the servers graciously made me one. When I got the bill, I was charged $10 for the doubleshot of espresso! I've never paid that much for an espresso in my life! Even at the fanciest coffee shops, I think $4 has been the max. I didn't say anything, but damn, I had some sticker shock. Between the not cooked to order average burger and the sticker shock on the espresso, I was disappointed. However, the environment was cool. The music they were playing was good and the bartender was cool. I would definitely order something different if I were to return.

City life

Ultra-modern chic! I've never referred to anything with that particular choice of words, so this is a first, people. But how else could you sum up the atmosphere at Cheer's? After many years of Reading's mayor and other city officials promising to "revitalize" downtown Reading, the DoubleTree by Hilton opened, as well as its integrated in-house restaurant, Cheer's American Bistro. In an absolute prime location across the street from the ever bustling Santander Arena, Cheer's invites guests in for a memorable meal in the heart of one of Pennsylvania's most discordant yet captivating cities. Trying to find a parking space downtown is always an adventure, but luckily guests of the hotel and restaurant alike can take advantage of the DoubleTree Garage right next door. Once, inside, it's a feast for the eyes. And the strangest thing? Even though it exudes this ostentatious - almost pretentious - feel to it, you'll never feel uninvited. Somehow, it retains warmth, sort of like when you go to a fancy dinner party at your one rich friend's house. The food and service matched the simple elegance, all superbly satisfying. Cajun filet medallions started the night and were succulent, tender, and perfectly seasoned, served in a shallow pool of flavorful au jus. The game hen was expertly trimmed and had a gratifying salty crispy skin. My one complaint - the filet medallion risotto. Overly cooked, mushy, and bland. Those poor filet medallions - cooked to hell and lost all of their succulence. All in all, the service was fine, the food was well above average, and the location is an ideal place to start a fun night on the town.

Duck appetizer.

5 star service, 2 star food and menu. During an overnight stay in Reading, we booked in for dinner on a Saturday night. Prior to our meal we attempted to grab a drink at the bar which was packed with a rowdy local crowd. The wait staff completely ignored us so we left after five minutes. For dinner we were seated by the window in comfortable plushy chairs. Very nice romantic lighting and overall ambience. The paper menus that were given to us did not fit the menu prices or the overall atmosphere. Our waiter was outstanding. Very good bread rolls and butter. The drink pours of wine were very generous. However my husband's double gin tasted like less than a single watered down. The menu had been recently changed so many of the items that I've seen on yelp are no longer available. We ended up with the duck appetizer which was basically duck and gravy slopped over french fries with balls of raw cheese on the side. For dinner my husband had the steak and fries. The steak was chewy. I went with the Asian noodle bowl which tasted like something I quickly made at home. Basically scrambled eggs with zucchini and carrots over top the lump of noodles stuck together. I took two bites and couldn't finish is so unappetizing. Everything was extremely salty.

Cornell's special
Gene P.

We stopped in for dinner and absolutely loved it. Lex was our server and she was fantastic. Attentive and very hard working, a very kind person. The dinner was Cornell's special. For the life of me, I don't know why it's a special? This should be on the menu every day. It was that good. I would actually come out of my way to come back here if I knew I could get the chicken. THAT GOOD!!!

It's in the downtown of Reading on a corner. There is plenty of parking on the street. We walked in and there was a sign that said we should seat ourselves. There were quite a few open tables at that time so we picked a table that had a bench seat on one side and a chair on the other. The decor was simple yet updated. The seats were comfortable. We were soon greeted by a friendly server who got us drinks. The menu has many breakfast options, including eggs, sandwiches, omelettes, and messes. I didn't feel like having any meat, so I ordered two over easy eggs with rye toast, and added on their cheesy home fries. My husband ordered the big mess, which was a mixture of eggs, potatoes, onions, peppers, cheese, and he added in hot beef Italian sausage. It came with toast. That dish was huge! He really enjoyed it because he cleaned his plate. My dish also was wonderful. I loved the cheesy home fries paired up with the eggs to sop up the yolk. We did notice that they do a lot of food delivery business, with at least six people waiting to pick up food at any given time. By the time we left, the place was almost full. If we lived in Reading, we would frequent Marvel Ranch all the time. The food was great, the service was wonderful, the prices were reasonable, and the people were friendly. When we got home, we did watch the Gordon Ramsay Secret Service episode from earlier in the year and the staff really took what he had to say to heart and are still killing it!

It probably has the least amount of seating of the bunch, so combined with their no reservation policy, timing is everything. Weekdays are usually pretty calm, but weekends are a madhouse. Sunday hours are also a bit tighter, open from 9am to 1pm instead of the usual 8am-2pm, so something to be aware of. The food, service, and decor all get high marks. Bonus points for serving sides of jelly in miniature sealable jars. When I see jars, it tells me the owner isn't cheaping out on anything. You won't find any stinkin' plastic ramekins here. Only earthen, stoneware plates and shiny copper mule mugs. Fresh is the rare boutique-class brunchery that respects diners' space by generously giving it to them. With its compact storefront, it was a pleasant surprise to see they didn't try to cram as many tables as physically possible in the dining room. That means on even the busiest of days, you aren't forced to sit on top of your neighbor. This property has an interesting history, having been home to one of my favorite brunch spots back in the day, Bistro 614. Then, back in 2014 it burned down, managed to rebuild and reopen a little over a year later before closing down for good in 2019. Years went by where it was just a barren, neglected empty shell, and people started to wonder if anything, much less a bistro replacement, would ever move in. Our prayers were answered in 2022, and with its opening Fresh instantly became one of the trendier brunch destinations in town. Going more for quaint than SoHo chic, dining here feels like visiting an old friend, an old friend who burned down and bummed around aimlessly for a long, dark stretch, but came back better than ever.

Sports bar- Eagles vibe w/ a decent draft list. The kegs weren't working (seems to happen at every bar we attend these days) but still enjoyed a Mike & Merrill Philly Hazy IPA. Wings a good size, crisp, you know, the way wings used to be before everyone started charging an arm & a leg & serving broken pigeon wings. Classic "Buffalo" sauce & blue cheese dressing were good. FINALLY tried famous Caramel Burger (which I missed several times at the Hamburger festival). It did not disappoint. Good size, flavorful patty, & what these people do best- the bacon jam & caramelized bacon. The sweetness of the onions sings thru. Order it! Husband ordered seasonal special Frikadellen/Bratwurst Smash Burger. Skipping right to it- the cottage fries. (Gracie's/Louie's if you had this all the time we'd have no beef! LOL) INCREDIBLE! Crisp, thin, tender, amazing. If you follow me you know I am over the frozen fries served at every eatery in this country. Finally, amazingly pleasant, genuinely happy, server- Reese. She was on my side throughout this whole foodie journey, even the beer & burger mishap (initially burger served w/o cheese sauce). She's a keeper! We'll be back & will spread the word! The atmosphere is a bit more upscale than your average diner--everything was impeccably clean, and the ambiance was very pleasant. My friends both opted for the "All You Can Eat Buffet," which I understand is what this place is famous for (especially on weekends!). Their plates were packed, and the fact that they both went back for seconds speaks for itself--they loved it. I went with the Norway Benedict, and I was honestly blown away. It featured two perfectly poached eggs and smoked salmon on English muffins with a very generous serving of Hollandaise sauce, accompanied by a side of home-fried potatoes. The presentation was beautiful, the taste was excellent, and I truly can't think of a single thing that would have improved the dish. Service Highlights: * Attentive Staff: Our server was great--present when we needed drink refills but never intrusive. * Efficiency: They were quick to clear empty plates rather than letting them sit on the table, which we really appreciated. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

No misses on any of their meals, though the sweet cream pancakes are a particular standout, as are the bananas foster French toast with orange brandy (!!!). Huge portions. Plus, on weekdays they hand out complimentary mimosas. My only possible complaint is the access to condiments. The coffee does not automatically come with cream, and it's not on the self-serve shelf with the sugar packets. Likewise, the toasted English muffins do not come buttered and they don't ask about whether you want it at the register. So sometimes you have to get up multiple times to ask for the basic things. Service is friendly and prompt and I LOVE that the music is chill jazz and piano. It's a great environment to meet up with friends or even to bring your laptop and work for an hour. It does get pretty busy at peak times in late morning (like 10-11:30 am) but they have a really nice patio out front that will double the table space once the weather warms up.

My husband and I thought we'd try this for our post-Valentine's day breakfast. We ordered 2 large coffees; 2 eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns; breakfast pizza; and French toast. We wanted to try everything! It cost more than $50!!! And what made that costs so outrageous is that while the food was good, it wasn't anything above diner food quality food where I could have gotten everything for less than half that price. The food was good, but not worth all the extra money spent. The staff was all very friendly and amicable. The service as incredibly fast-- I was shocked it arrived so quickly. The venue was very clean and had cute cafe vibes. Self service to pick up your coffee accoutrements and you needed to clean off your own table space at the waste bin. Glad I tried it to speak to it but I'll stick to my diner quality breakfasts for diner prices.

After years of travel and reviewing breakfast spots, I found my heart restaurant. A place I know I'll think about quite often through my lifetime until I'm able to come back once again. The crooked hen is a quiet little establishment right in the heart of the hills of Pennsylvania. I love them so much my first try, I came back a second day in a row. My firet try, I ordered the lox on the NY bagel. You get a GIANT portion of smoked salmon, kapers, cream cheese and fresh tomatoes. Absolutely decadent. The salmon was perfectly smoked and still fresh, which is hard to achieve considering the cost of this ingredient. The crooked hen nailed it. The lox and bagel were better than anything I've ever had in New York and honestly, New York could learn a lesson on portion from this place! My second try, I got the crab cake eggs Benedict with hash browns covered in cheese, peppers and onions. WOWZA! The immense burst of flavor out of that first bite of crab cake blew my mind. Incredibly fresh, not too fishy and light! The HOUSE MADE hollandaise sauce was thick yet creamy and perfectly balanced. Most places serve "gritty" hollandaise sauce because it's been over cooked, set in a heat tray for too long or over heated during the cooking process. The poached eggs were actually poached too! Which is quite impressive because most restaurants choose to fry eggs for eggs Benedict because poaching an egg is hard to perfect. The crooked hen nailed that too!!! Considering eggs Benedict is what I always obsess with over during my travels! I'll be DREAMING of those decedent crab cakes for the rest of my life! The hash browns were also perfectly crisped and the peppers they layed on top were perfectly cooked and perfectly sweet to off set the savory. Again, I'll be dreaming about this dish for the rest of my life!! In to the staff and establishment: PERFECT. The facility is incredibly clean and the staff is so clearly well taken care of by management as the waitress I got two days in a row was a soft spoken and polite young lady. The crooked hen is so incredibly lucky to have this young lady!!! She was quick to serve, she was quick to make sure I was taken care of during my entire dining experience. (both days). I plan to come back over the summer on a personal trip. That's how good this place is. No wonder they've been voted best lunch.
