We were across the highway at a tile store when we saw the giant Wayback Burgers sign and decided to go check it out. Very clean, very professional, and great food. I had the double bacon burger with Swiss cheese and it was delicious. Did not feel heavy, going down and sitting in the stomach like some other burgers do. Obviously as a burger it's not gonna be completely light either, but it had a very nice weight about it. Also, they do not cook an oil, and smash it, so it doesn't have that greasy feel to it. It was not overly spiced, but just the right amount to give it really good flavor. Also got the onion rings, which were very lightweight but thick and very tasty. Probably one of the best onion rings. I've tried. And the best part is that they're not oily like other places. The chocolate brownie shake was really good, and strangely refreshing for a chocolate milkshake that normally would feel heavy. Really nice flavor, not overly sweet, with a really good amount of whipped cream added to it. My girlfriend had the regular burger, which she enjoyed and the cheesy fries, which they gave us a little extra to share. Some reviews think that they taste like "standard fare" fries from other fast food places, whereas we found them to be very tasty. The common denominator is that they make very good food, for an affordable price, not too cheap not too expensive, and they cook it in front of you so it's not instant like you're used to at McDonald's or some other place. Went here for a lazy Sunday lunch and was very disappointed. The staff aren't trained and barely know the menu. I ordered a strawberry milkshake and chocolate milkshake, and a side of large chili cheese tots. Service is always slow here and that was expected. But the staff tried to give me a box of fries with melted cheese on top saying that's what I ordered. They even pointed at the receipt that clearly read chili cheese fried TOTS. And finally after some back and forth, they understood fries and tots are not the same. The milkshakes were a disaster. I took a sip of my chocolate shake and it tasted off. I thought maybe it was my gum from before. My kid was sipping the strawberry milkshake and gave several gag faces but said it tasted kinda like strawberry. We ordered our food to go. When we got home, I took a bigger sip of my chocolate shake and it definitely tasted off like cleaning solution. I asked my kid if that's what the weird taste that they mentioned. And sure enough, the strawberry milkshake also tasted like cleaning solution. We dumped both, what a waste. Chili cheese tots and 2 milkshakes costed over $30 and we dumped most of it. The tots were soggy like rushed out of the fryer to give us what we asked for. I got the classic burger with some modifications, such as adding mushrooms. The mushrooms were very good and felt like eating meat. The meat itself doesn't really taste like much and I got swiss cheese because the American cheese costs an extra dollar. In hindsight, I should've got pepper jack cheese or the American cheese because the swiss cheese didn't taste much. The meat did have nice char flavor though and was fresh. The kiosk that I ordered on was really sensitive and I didn't notice that I added something I didn't want. read more

This is the WAYBACK burger you see from Milpitas portion of 880 freeway . You can't tell if it has a drive thru or not or if it's even OPEN for business for that matter because the Front side is the other way. It's connected to a STARBUCKS that has a drive thru . WAYBACK BURGERS is dining room and take out only. It's a very odd setup and so far from the freeway exit even though it's next to the freeway if that makes sense. Also there is a chevron gas station mini mart with a car wash next to it. I finally found this place is actually in business and today was my first visit . The directions to this place is very bizarre making you go into a rectangular loop and hidden to the side of the gas station . Inside was very nice they have an easy kiosks, wonderful menu. 2 Hispanic ladies working one who knew English well and the other not very much. I ordered two item s onion rings and Cajun tater tots a huge box I might add . But the minus one star is the time it took to get my order- 25 Min almost and they was only one order ahead of me. So they need to get fixed and up to par with speed otherwise everything else is superb . Great little hidden place has plenty of parking lot your headed to the South Bay and need some food for your drive to Santa Cruz or Monterey. Shakes are advertised a lot of their app and inside the place. The kids will email and text when your food is ready. These are franchiseable for anyone interested btw. read more

Been here a few times now when we've been in the area, and each time, we're always pleased with the service! Everything is made fresh and tastes delicious. We're a big fan of the favorites boxes, but have had the burger meals too. They're always yummy. Cheese fries are a go to for us also. We recently tried the chicken strip box and were pleasantly surprised with how good the chicken was. The seasoning was perfect and the tenders were crispy yet juicy. It's always clean inside, and service is always friendly. Although it can be a little on the spendier side for most items, I do think you're paying for the quality of food and that's why I think the boxes are a steal. Definitely recommend! read more

This restaurant seems to be quite empty when I walked in and rarely any cars from outside, but shouldn't judge the place with what's described. This restaurant is so underrated, which I don't know why, but it seemed to be a good place to eat. It quite looks nice inside despite no customers dining in there. Anyways, the guy who took my order and prepped it seems to be new since the employees and possibly the manager were guiding him. The food didn't look bad for someone who seems to be new here. The fries were not too salty, but are kind of soggy. The burger tasted delicious though. There's only two Bay Area locations: Milpitas and Concord. More in the Sacramento region. Open pretty dang late with all things considered, especially by Bay Area standards, and this is for the restaurant itself which you can still enter until closing. There's no drive thru for this location. Also just an FYI, when we were there, there might have been only 2-3 guys working, so know that they are SEVERELY short staffed. So you can be waiting quite awhile. For our first night there, it wasn't so bad, but on the day where they were giving out free milkshakes (small vanilla one for all, it was over 30 minutes for our order to get to us and there were parties before us that took even longer to get theirs). We got the: 1) A1 Steakhouse Burger: -This is a double cheeseburger with Swiss cheese, crispy fried onions, and A1 steak sauce. -It's a standard burger wit different cheese than usual. I'd say if you're a fan of steak sauce this is the burger to get, but I'd opt to try something different next time. 2) Fiery Bacon Burger: -This is a seasonal limited menu item. It's a double bacon cheeseburger with melted Pepper Jack cheese, extra cheese sauce, and Texas Pete seasoned bacon along with some jalapenos and chipotle mayo to boot. -A bit sour from the jalapenos along with crunch, peppery spice, smoky flavor, saltiness of the bacon. This was my favorite burger of the 2 during our trip. 3) Onion Rings: -Standard onion rings, not the biggest portion, but nicely crispy and doesn't have the stringy onions inside. 4) Fries: -This came with a combo upgrade. -I was a bit disappointed seeing the amount of fries that we got since they were inside one of those to go thin cardboard boxes, but despite this the fries were pretty good. -Slight crisp to them and not soggy. Good level of saltiness. Went nicely with their smokey chipotle mayo. 5) Vanilla Milkshake: -This was a small free milkshake during their free milkshake day. All of their milkshakes are hand dipped and made with Blue Bunny ice cream and milk. I want to try more of their milkshakes and their Cajun burger on a future visit. read more

We entered the store at 6:00 p.m., about six hours before closing, and placed our order at the kiosk. There was no line, and an employee was standing nearby, but she did not greet us or acknowledge us in any way. After ordering, there was a fairly long wait for our burgers. My husband went to the counter to check on our order. The lady just started placing pans of burgers from our order onto the counter. My husband saw a cup on the counter and casually asked if there were four cups (2 regular and 2 kids') as he only sees 1 cup rim. Without saying a word, the employee separated the stack with what appeared to be an annoyed attitude and showed only two kids' cups and one regular cup, leaving us one short. She then handed him the missing cup. When we brought the food to our table, we discovered that one burger was made incorrectly. Since the order was placed on the kiosk, the receipt clearly showed no cheese. I brought the burger back to the counter and spoke with the male cook, showing him the receipt. He took the tray without saying anything or showing any expression, and I returned to our table. Shortly after, the female employee dropped off the tray of fries (with the cheeseburger removed) at our table, again without a word or smile. When the corrected burger was ready, the male cook brought it to our table, also without any verbal acknowledgment or expression. The burgers themselves were not overly dense, which was good, and the patty texture was enjoyable. However, the tater tots had a strange aftertaste, possibly from the oil used. Throughout our entire visit, both employees repeatedly glanced at us but never smiled or made us feel welcomed. Regarding cleanliness, at first glance the restaurant appeared clean and organized. However, during our visit, we observed the female employee bring in a stack of used metal trays from the top of the trash bins and take them behind the counter. She wiped the trays with a rag from the counter, then stacked them with paper between each tray and returned them to the outgoing food stack. The bottom of each wiped tray was placed directly on the paper that comes into contact with customers' food, which did not seem sanitary. I gave you direct feedback and you fixed it that day. I also gave you a good review that day per your request. Today, the rodeo burger had way too much BBQ sauce. Fries, onion rings, and tater tots were cold. The fries were lacking crispiness and freshness once again. You also forgot to make my wife's chicken sandwich, and if we would have walked out with our to-go bag, I wouldn't have had the chance to let you know and request our sandwich. I was super nice about your mistake and wasn't being rude to you. When you brought it to our table a few minutes later, you didn't apologize or show any kindness or decency for forgetting it. Live just down the street, tried this place about 4 years ago & never returned. Thought I'd give them another try, so recently purchased (to go) hamburger meal, cheeseburger, fries & soda combo. I replaced the fries with onion rings. 1st thing I noticed, the place is well kept, very clean and organized, kind of an OCD feeling. That's a good thing, look it up... Only one other customer sitting near front window. The second thing I noticed was when the hamburger patty hit the grill. Then I looked again at the large pictured menu board mounted from the ceiling above the cash register. The patty on grill was maybe 1/4 the thickness of the patties in the pictures above on the menu. Now look, I know we are in tuff times, and making a buck is tuff. Costs need to be shaved, but I'm sorry, this was absolutely misleading. I mean the patty on the gill was so thin I thought it may come apart when it was flipped over. In short my "to go" meal was just over $21. The onion rings were the best part, and they were just ok. The hamburger was really underwhelming for the price. Another thing. Ever tasted a fountain soda with a strong taste of chlorine or bleach . If not , give this soda fountain a try. Whether it was from cleaning the icemaker or from the city water, it was horrible.. Maybe the water filter needed replacement? I got home, took my sip, I tossed the soda. For $20, Five Guys is a much better deal..... The prices have gone up like everywhere, but the meals have not changed. However, it had no flavor and made me eat a lot of ketchup. Probably better? It didn't have a taste of burnt smoke and coals from before. Wish it had a sauce. TOTS, It was decent to eat. Had a lot of flavor, but it was messy. Really wish they gave a fork to eat it. I had to self provide. First time and would just eat this. However, this is a messy order and my napkins inside were unusable 80% of napkins because these tots. Service, I don't know why, but I went late at night on a Saturday and there was people before me. But service here is super slow! I waited about 30 minutes! I don't know how long it would be during lunch rush, but it took too long for a fresh smash burger & tots. Having not a fork for the tots is a must! To me, stapling the bag is a waste and not worth it. Ambiance, It's a really clean place, a huge improvement from previous management. It's not really the best to sit in, being seats are metal and some chairs were used for management to do paperwork. It didn't feel welcoming to me. Felt I was just there then to enjoy eating. Everything looks good but there is no seasoning on burgers and the user to much ketchup and mustard

Got there early and nobody was there. The lady taking the order was super confused and didn't give a receipt so we weren't sure what she entered in the system. Another lady was cooking and I kept asking her questions, but she didn't speak English. Heck, they didn't speak Spanish either. But, she was for sure making the burgers all wrong. When we finally flagged down the cashier lady who apparently is the only one who did speak English, she kept reprimanding the cook. The issue was that the receipt she didn't give us showed that the problem was with her since she entered in the orders incorrectly. At this point, it's been 45 mins for 2 burgers, fries, and shake. I'm surprised this location hasn't expanded to more areas. It might be that the flavor profile of the burgers is more of an acquired taste. The people here were friendly and I appreciate it. It's a nice clean restaurant with plenty of seats. I tried it twice and found the food to be so-so. I tried the hotdogs first. I asked for mustard and they put lots of ketchup on it. And the hot dog was over cooked. I went back and tried the chicken BLT sandwich. The chicken was cooked perfectly but the bread was soaked in either butter or oil. I'd go again if I were with friends and they wanted to go but that's about it. Lots of other restaurants around. This is one of the few places I've ever had fast food from that really, really fit the three star "OK" rating. It's definitely not worse than three stars, but it's definitely not better than three stars. You can't argue either way and not even a single aspect of our meal would justify a two or four star rating on their own, because sometimes I'll push an overall rating up a star because one aspect of the food or order is that important. It was all three stars across the board. There's a reason we ordered once from Wayback after they opened, then years later on April Fools day we ordered again. The food isn't good enough, especially given the high prices, to order regularly from. Because it was April Fools, I ordered the Loaded Burger Wraps and Fried Pickles as a joke. Looks like a wrap, April Fools, it's a burger! Looks like chicken or zucchini nuggets, April Fools, they're pickles! For what the food was, it was good or "OK". None of it was bad. All of it was a bit overly salty. Like they added salt to the fried pickles that are already salty and they added salt to the fries inside the burger wrap that already has salty pickles in it, and ketchup that has salt. The wraps are TINY, like the burger wrap had half a burger patty (as described on the menu), THREE fries, and TWO pickle chips, all in a small street taco tortilla. The pickle chips looked well made, tasted unique and good, but again I think they sprinkled salt on them, which was not needed. If they cut the prices by 25%, maybe to $8-9 for each burger, it would be a good deal and good food, and would probably deserve four stars. As it is, at $12-13-14 for a burger, it's just not worth the price to buy lunch often enough to find something they make that I really like. So, the high prices probably knock one star off their rating and take them from four stars to three stars. read more

I came to this place and gave it a try the first time I thought it was just coincidental that I waited 45 minutes for burger. The second and third time I just threw up my hands. It does not take 45 minutes to make a burger, although the burgers are good they're not worth waiting 45 minutes for. When I asked the employees what was going on or is there a manager I was told no. Once I got my food, I went to get condiments and a drink, and I noticed that the peppers had mold in the inside of the container where the peppers were. Recently I had gone and there was two cashiers , not wearing gloves, answering personal phone calls, and putting it on speaker while handling food, took 45 minutes to make me one milkshake, taking selfies and videos of each other while customers are within the establishment. What in the hell is going on in this place? I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt and I tried one sip with my milkshake and it was completely disgusting. I threw it in the trash.
