This food truck was serving some delicious hot dogs at the 2023 SubZERO Festival this past weekend. Service was great from everyone on that truck, friendly, efficient, and just a welcoming environment overall, even after 9pm on a Friday night. Awesome worker (the one making and calling out the orders) recommended the kamikaze dog, probably cuz he was a pro at making them. I got it without the sriracha, and it was perfect! A sweet and savory combination of flavors, especially with the semisweet grilled bun and thick and juicy beef frank, not your ordinary hot dog, it will have you craving more after your last bite. And the fries remind me of amusement park fries I haven't had since I was younger, not too oily and the taste was quite good, I couldn't resist even though I normally prefer less carbs. Altogether, it made for a satisfying meal. I know the food truck does plenty of private events and catering, but it would be nice if there was a way to more easily find their upcoming locations open to the public, since they don't seem to have an official website or updated social media page. Road Dogs serves up a pretty nice beef frank from their food truck, so if you happen upon them while they're moving about be sure to give them a try (my experience was at the Rose White and Blue festival). Their menu isn't vast with too many options, but given their pricing it feels worth it to go with their loaded hot dogs rather than the simpler stuff. Either way, staff were pretty quick to get lines moving and took a name they'd call out at the pick-up window. They readily honored my request for the hot sauce on my Kamikaze dog to be on the side, so no complaints here. The beef frank was pretty nicely grilled with a very nice "snap" to the skin when you bite down on it. The kamikaze dog is absolutely a loaded hot dog with bacon and onions on top of mayo/sriracha/teriyaki and seaweed. It's quite the umami burst with each bite and the (lightly toasted hawaiian) buns have a subtly sweet contrast to the smorgasbord on the inside. The downside to using hawaiian buns though is that they do tend to break apart at the seams, so be careful if you're picking up this dog by hand rather than by foil. My cravings for hot dogs are not frequent, but I'd definitely hit them up again the next time I see them around! read more

So a couple of things before going into this review: 1) While I enjoy them, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of hot dogs so I don't necessarily crave them in the same way I do with other American classics such as burgers. 2) I've said it before but if you are going to be a truck that specializes in an American classics such as burgers, cheesesteaks, Mac and cheese, etc., you need to be prepared to blow me away. So please keep in mind that it's already a bit of a long shot for this place to impress me. Now I'm sure people are wondering why I even bothered to eat at this place. I have had some great hot dogs out there (Portillo's in Chicago, look it up) so even if I may not be the biggest fan of hot dogs in general, I can still be impressed by them depending on the eatery. I got the Chicago dog and the nachos with chili. Unfortunately, both were average. The chili was pretty underwhelming much less the nacho dish as a whole. The Chicago dog really wasn't much other than a standard hot dog with some extra toppings. Basically these weren't dishes that I couldn't find anywhere else. Again, I have had some good hot dogs and I probably was subconsciously expecting this place to serve up hot dogs similar to what I would get in Chicago but sadly that wasn't the case.They seem to have a pretty solid rating so I guess it may be other people's place to go for a solid hot dog but not mine. read more

I recently worked with Road Dogs for a school event in Sunnyvale- they came to our elementary school on a Friday night for a school family hangout, and working with Vinh was simple. The whole process was incredibly smooth- he emailed promptly and confirmed everything. He was punctual (45 minutes before the event began), and the food was amazing. I personally enjoyed the Kamikaze dog, as it was so unique! I have never had a hotdog with toasted bits of seaweed on top. Food was made to order and was hot and fresh. I'm very happy for them that not only did I feel that my $5 towards my Space Needle was oh so worth it but I will be a repeat customer! The hot dog itself was good. The chili dog....no. This is not chili, it is like..flavored sauce with a jalapeño. There is a sign that says no beans but I presumed that meant it had meat. It's just thin sauce. I got through 3 bites before the bun was mush and fell apart. It's also oddly sweet, almost like the spaghetti sauce at a Jollibee. I know that's an offbeat reference but IYKYK. They came to my work for lunch the other day. I would say that they have quite interesting food offerings. I wanted to try something different so I went with the kamikaze tater tots! They were pretty filling, and I couldn't even make a dent in them. It had a kick to it, and it was both sweet and spicy at the same time. I asked them not to drench the tots in mayo. I felt bad enough eating the fried carbs. I spent about $6.50 for my meal, and they accepted credit card via Square. My coworker had the kamikaze hot dog, which she said was super massive. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal. She was full and satisfied. She saw my tater tots and saw how massive mine were. I think they have me extra because I was their last customer for lunch! Just polished off a Tailgate dog from these guys. Everything about my experience was extremely pleasant. The truck is curbed in front of my company's main sales building. I walked right up to the window. There was one guy in front of me, but ordering takes zero time, so I waited a grand total of 10 seconds in line. Ol' Muscles McGee behind the register rings me up for a Tailgate with tots. I didn't time my wait after ordering, but can estimate it was somewhere between 2 and 5 minutes. Very quick service. In terms of the dog itself: the Tailgate comes standard with an all-beef frank (which is much better than your typical Ballpark or Hebrew National dog), diced tomatoes & onions, as well as chopped bits of boneless fried chicken. If you want, you have the option between BBQ & chipotle sauce (I went with the latter). Tacked on a side of tots (which I probably didn't need). My singular critique is that the bun snapped in half at the seam the moment I attempted to elevate it off the basket. Not the end of the world; if you're the type who rolls back the tin foil and eats it that way, you won't even notice. But I usually pick up the dog, hand-to-bun, so I had to adjust game a little bit. I have had Road Dogs before at the Milpitas Food Truck meetups on Weds but have yet to try their hot dogs. I know I know.. what could I be ordering from a truck called Road Dogs if not hot dogs? Well tater tots of course! Their side specialty is tater tots and I LOVE tater tots! Even more then french fries. Its been a obsession/addiction since grade school. If I see tater tots on any menu, I have to try it. The first time we ordered the chili cheese tater tots and this time we ordered the jalapeno and cheese tater tots. These are not the best taters I have tried or the worst. My company ordered Road Dogs to cater our office dinner. They were supposed to come at 6PM, around 5:30 they called to ask about direction...6:30PM they still had not arrived yet. Finally around 6:45 they did.. we were all starving but had to wait for them to "setup." Food came out slowly..very slowly.. I think the whole process from the time I went out to the truck, waited for them to be ready to take orders to the time I finally got my order was almost 1 hour. ..nuf said..I was disappointed. Now, the dog.... well it's at least $7 a dog. Yes, the dog is quite large and long (hey.. don't think dirty!) but $7 is not cheap for a hot dog. I mistakenly told them I wanted bratwurst, I really wanted Polish, but o well.. I didn't want to confuse them even more and slowed down the whole process so I stick with my brats.. The brats are not as long as the regular dog.. so if you like meat, stick with the regular beef dog and save your extra buck (upgrade charge). I ordered my hot dog tailgate style. After I took my first bite, I really did wish I ordered regular dog.. because the bratwurst had a bit of unpleasant smell. Guessing it was not fresh? maybe not many people ordered brats so the turnover is not good? All the toppings on my dog was wonderful and delicious though... The new and upcoming hotdog mobile! I just attended their soft grand opening and it was a great turnout. First off, the truck is so cute! Bright blue and yellow, hard to miss and hard to forget. My bf tried the Tailgate dog and he really enjoyed it. Topped with chicken, tomatoes, onions, and their special spicy sauce...how can you NOT like it. Their chili fries came out piping hot. The dogs taste wonderful but they could definitely work on their service and communication with the other staff. I usually order the same thing everytime I come, but I guess everyone at the truck makes it a different way since it's never really the same the next time I order it. Kamikaze Tots = yummy! The tater tots are really crispy on the outside but they are soft and delicious on the inside. The toppings and seasonings are really good together, and whatever sauce stuff that's at the bottom of the tray is really good if you dip your tater tots in it. I could probably do without the bacon though... or I wish the pieces of bacon were more bite size so they'd be easier to eat a bit at a time. Hot dogs are one of my favorite foods, especially from a food truck. Imagine my joy when I heard about Road Dogs on Eye on the Bay. I just HAD to try them. Luckily, I didn't have to wait for long when I spotted them at the Wednesday food truck meet up in Milpitas. I tried the Classic just to guage how good the quality of their hot dogs are. I wasn't disappointed. Also tried the Kamikazes (bacon-wrapped dog with seaweed and spicy sauce) and the Space Needle (with cream cheese and kraut). This review is only for the kamikazi tots. Yum! What more can I say? The tater tots were cooked to perfection. The outside was crispy and the inside was soft. On top of the tater tots were shredded seaweed, bacon bits, and sauteed onions. Sesame seeds were sprinkled on top. Then teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and Sriracha were drizzled on top in a crisscross pattern. The toppings gave the tater tots an extra deliciousness with a little creaminess, saltiness, and spiciness from the sauces. This is obviously not a good combination if you're looking for low calories foods, but it's perfect for a day when you're indulging your stomach. It's $6 an order so it is a little pricy, but it is filling. Definitely give this side a try! read more

I want to do a shoutout to my vegetarians - they have veggie dogs! I wouldn't normally go for this truck just because I automatically assume sometimes that food trucks like this won't have a veggie option, but I'm glad I decided to check it out. I got the kamikaze dog with a vegetarian sausage and it was soooo good! It's was a sort of deliciously-bad kind of meal that you miss once you go out to eat and nearly all vegetarian options on the menu are some super healthy mixture of no sauce, salt or flavor. Ah, yes. Had these the only time I allow myself to eat hot dogs - when I'm drunk. So, while the experience is vague, I can still remember the important part - the food! My friends and I ordered a bunch of meals, which came with a hot dog, chips and a drink. I think it was $7 but who counts money when they're drunk? (Or when your boyfriend is drunk and pays for it.) Anyway, they have the jalapeno chips I like (with the green bag) and the drink is completely nonexistant in my mind, so probably just your average Sprite. As for the hot dog, I liked it!
