Her condiments are not fresh at all and always has a flies around her food. I get it, it's outdoors and it will happen, but that is NOT a good look. The sausages look as if they have been sitting out for a while so... maybe that explains it. Really does give the impression that her food isn't good (spoiler: it's not.) Service is ok, she has terrible attitude. You'd think she would be nice considering she has her own "business." Anyways, if you're hungry or want a snack I'd recommend walking a block down to the gas station market instead or going to any the near by Mexican restaurants there. (I read it on the internet, so it must be true: https://foodimentary.com/july-holidays/) Naturally, I had to celebrate, even though weiners are not one of my favorite food groups. I had a hiking trip planned, and Dolly's was one of the places on my list of doggies to try. As other Yelpers have written, Dolly did not rent a storefront to sell her hot dogs. She has a stand in front of a self-storage place on Old Oakland Road. There is lots of unrestricted parking on this block, and there's not a lot of traffic on this wide road, so no problems there. Just pull up, step out, and get your health food. I had to think for a few seconds, spicy or hot link? I decided on hot link, and put the relish and onions on. Ooooooo-eeee, it turned out so good! The spice is hot, the actual dog is between warm and hot so you can taste it, the skin is just right. I made sure Dolly saw how much I loved it. I'm for small businesses, and food carts are about as small as you can get. Apparently Dolly's been at this for years, so she's doing something right as a small business woman. She's very friendly too, but I can see her getting hot if you try to rip her off or take advantage of her. To quote Aretha Franklin, all she's askin' is for a little respect. Wow. Just wow. I'd heard about Dolly's Dawgs many years ago, and would see her cart every so often, thinking I should stop and check it out. Foolishly, I never did, until today. I wasted so many opportunities to enjoy some of the best hot dogs out there, and chat with one of the sweetest ladies ever. I ordered a Polish and a hot link, her two most popular items. What I got wasn't fancy, just the sausage, a perfectly steamed bun, and your choice of the standard condiments. That said, I'm not kidding when I say these were beyond fantastic. I loved the snap of the casing, the slight hint of char, and the rich flavor. Critically, they weren't remotely greasy, and the seasoning was on point. I pass by this stand every day and I always want to stop by. Finally, I got out of school early and she was still there, so I stopped. I wanted a simple hot dog, a big one. I got the jumbo even though she offered all sizes of hot dogs and sausages. She also had chili cheese, which I first asked for, but I didn't want to wait since i was meeting someone soon. That's my next order. Dolly is super sweet and she had on a scrabble Halloween costume which was cute and fun. I love her attitude, make me want to get more hot dogs from her. I was feenin' for a wiener. Wiener as in hot dog, sickos. Wienersnitzel wasn't calling my name today, and I've always seen this hot dog cart but never stopped by. Today was a good day as any. She has a few options to choose from such as hot links, Polish sausages, and small and jumbo hot dogs. I ordered the Mild Polish Dog ($3.50) She has lots of condiments available for you such as diced tomatoes, diced white onions, relish, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, jalapenos, dijon mustard, sauerkraut, and hot sauce. The polish WAS huge, as Huy N. noted... just the way I like it. *insert joke here*. It had a bit of a spiciness to it, not too hot or intolerable but as it was mentioned to be "mild", I wasn't really expecting any kick to it. I was waiting in line at a comic shop when I caught the scent of hot dogs wafting through the air. A quick check on Yelp confirmed that I would not regret giving into my stomaches growls. I got a Jumbo Dog first and I am sad to report that I was quite disappointed upon the first bite. However, something inside of me told me that I should give them another shot. So I handed off my lunch and got back in line for a Polish sausage. Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! Everything about this fat and juicy dawg was amazing. I love the chewy texture, the snap of the sausage skin, and the tiny kick of spices within. I'm told the spicy sausage is really good too. So why 4 stars instead of 5? Well, because the first hot dog was very sub-par. I would compare it to an Oscar Meyer or any grocery brand hot dog. Also, when I went to look for ketchup, my options were Reduced Sugar or Salt Free. What?!? Give me the good stuff!! I want FULL sugar and salt in my Heinz brand ketchup. When I asked for regular ketchup, a bottle of Hunt's ketchup was brought out and I just about keeled over laughing. OK,ok, so I'm a TAD bit picky about my condiments... Delicious, fresh, and reasonable. Sit n talk a minute...she is also an interesting person! I heard people are trying to make her leave...why? She's been there 30 yrs! So what's the problem?! She obviously makes it work, and the food and condiments are all fresh and delicious, so leave her alone! I hope she's there another 30 yrs. I'll go back to see her again. I love this lady. If you've ever driven past San Jose Muni Golf Course you probably have seen her with her hot dog cart outside the trailer park. The dogs are awesome and she has a ton of condiments to choose from. My favorite is the Hot Link while Wifey prefers the Polish, which is HUGE (insert joke here). The Hot Link is actually pretty spicy, unlike most "hot" links, which don't even register on the spice scale. Here's how I create my "Man Killed by Dog" Hot Link: Douse in Tabasco, then add spicy brown mustard and a little ketchup. Add onions and jalapenos. Smother the whole thing in sauerkraut. Like Mr. Pibb and Red Vines, this dog = CRAZY DELICIOUS. Really, though, the dogs - though delicious - are almost an afterthought when compared to this lady's personality. She's been doing this for over twenty years, but she is still out there dressing in all sorts of crazy costumes and skimpy outfits, shaking what her mama gave her. I usually intend to swing by real quick to grab a dog on the way to the driving range, but I always end up lingering for the unintentional comedy of the trailer park residents and/or trucker drivers trying to hit on her. Sadly, Dolly (not her real name) has fallen on some hard times after a horrific liposuction fiasco. I was born and raised here in the South Bay and yet I cannot believe that today was the first time I had the pleasure of having an awesome hot dog at Dolly's. According to the other reviews, and Dolly herself, she's been here selling hot dogs in San Jose for over 20 years. And you know what, it's worth the drive, even if you're coming from South San Jose or Los Gatos. I had a Regular Dog (Hebrew National), a polish, and a can of Dr. Pepper. All of that for only $8. It's a very simple hot dog cart on the side of the road, but the quality of the dogs can't be beat. The polish in particular was absolutely awesome. It had that snap when I bit into it and it was super juicy. Dolly herself is also quite a character. She has plenty of condiments, and even six different types of mustards. This is a great place to stop for lunch or just a quick bite to eat. Dolly told me that she is there by 10 AM on most days (Monday-Friday) and will stay past 4 pm if patrons are still stopping by. A lot of people will simply buy the dogs and eat in their car, which is exactly what I did. I know that this is going to be a regular stop for lunch now. read more

Simply put...Dolly's Dawgs is a jewel. Her cart sits in the shade on the north side of Oakland road near a self storage business. Look for that big orange umbrella and you will find Dolly's cart. She is always there throughout the week (except weekends) ready to serve up a delicious variety of high quality hot dogs. I LOVE polish dogs and once I tasted Dolly's, I was hooked. Absolutely the best I have ever tasted. She gets them from a small family company using an old family recipe located somewhere here in the San Jose area. They are INCREDABLE! It is worth noting that Dolly does not put any condiments on her hot dogs but has a wide assortment of condiments right there so you can fix the your dawg up any way you like. Great food, great prices, clean environment, convenient parking on Oakland Road and easy conversation with an honesr, dedicated hard working lady makes Dolly's a true gem. Every now and then ya just gotta have a really freaking good hot dog. That's what Dolly serves up in a no-frills sidewalk cart along Old Oakland Road. It's about the best in San Jo, IMHO. It's much better than a Home Depot dog. I have driven across the valley just to get a Dolly Dawg. You pull up to the curb and you're there. There's always enough parking, even when the truckers stop. You order from her limited, but all-good, assortment of dogs, polish and hot links. Condiments are basic, but plentiful, and the wine list consists of soda. And damn, those hot dogs are good. Dolly is a kick too. She is friendly and always good for a smile and hello. She's something of a neighborhood character, and has kept her cart in the same spot for many years. On holidays she dresses up in silly sexy outfits that are a crackup. Dolly's cart adds a lot of color to an otherwise drab, industrial area. If you find yourself driving North on Old Oakland road, a few blocks up from 101. Look for Dolly, you can't miss her. She has your typical varieties of Hot Dogs, Polish and Hot Links. Recently I had an "Old Fashioned" (which is a Miller's dog) and a "Regular" dog (which is Hebrew National). The "Old Fashion" was good with a little bit of flavor, but too small for me. My all-time favorite there is the "Regular" dog. It's a good size with flavor to it. My son loved his "Polish". He said that it was fat, meaty, delicious and a lot better then the Polish at 'Bill's Beer Steamed Hot Dogs'. What I like the most is the vast varieties of toppings, chips and drinks to choose from! She has more choices then any hot dog cart I've ever been to! You'll have the typical relish, chopped onions and tomatos, but you'll also find reg mustard, honey mustard, spicy brown mustard, deli mustard, mayo, three different types of Tabasco, Tapatio, jalapenos, bbq sauce and a bunch of other toppings. Her chip assortmant is huge also. You got you're typical Dorritos, Fritos and Lay's, but I also found Funyon's, Sour Cream and Onion and Salt & Vinegar. Lot's of sodas to choose from to, like A&W Root Beer and Cream Soda, Rockstar, 7up and so on. Dolly's is one of my top 3 hot dog eateries in the South Bay. There's not a lot of great hot dog places in the South Bay...like the Mecca capital of hot dogs in the West Coast, Los Angeles. I have no idea why the heading on Yelp says closed because she is always there! I had a polish sausage with sauerkraut, onions, Dijon mustard, relish and jalapenos and it was DELICIOUS!
