The lamb stay with sweet soy and pickled ginger, tamarind citrus salad and avocado gado gado with kerupuk on the side was an excellent way to begin the evening. Fresh flavors and unique dishes that opened the palette. For mains the roasted cauliflower, corn fritter, black cod, red snapper with a side of coconut rice were each cooked to perfection. To finish off the pandan custard and chocolate chip cookies with cheddar ice cream were the perfect way to finish off the evening. The setting was tropical like southeast Asia and definitely made you feel like you were not in Wynwood. The wait staff was very attentive and answered all our questions with a smile. New SE Asian restaurant with French influence from NYC! FOOD Lobster noodles: I really wish the noodles were thicker to pair with the sauce better. It was also really black peppery which I didn't expect (maybe the French influence?) Lamb satay: so tender so good. Save the sauce. Nasi goreng: wish it was more aromatic since that's what Nasi goreng is supposed to be like Tenderloin: tender and yummy sambal sauce! Sambal will always be on the salty side so def get a rice to pair with this dish Corn fritters: this was perfect as a fried food and corn lover. Sweet and savory. Well fried. This Indonesian-French restaurant is just three days new per this review. Located in Wynnwood, it's street parking if you're lucky and some garages nearby. Ride share was my go to today. The entrance and interior are nice. Elevated, tropical vibes, reminiscent of Bali. Hostess and staff were all friendly and efficient. They is a very hospitable family behind this brand, who has a few other locations outside of Florida. From what I heard, Miami is a new market they're exploring via this pop up and I think it would be a welcome add to our restaurant line up! Flavors were all bold, dynamic. The satays were nice, between the shrimp and the chicken, I'd prefer the lemony flavors of the shrimp skewer. If you're new to Indonesian, definitely try the peanut sauce of the chicken... it's a mainstay of the cuisine. One of my favorite dishes was surprisingly the tamarind cabbage salad. Great zesty flavors and crunch - and I am not normally a salad guy. Both the black cod and lobster noodles were outstanding. The lobster noodles had ramen flavors with the premium lobster and a nice spicy kick to it (maybe strong for some if you're sensitive), I loved it. The black cod had a very unique glaze on it which I enjoyed. The Kerupuk is an Indonesian staple which is nice to mix in with the food. It was nice and crispy! Also had a chance to try the passionfruit custard which was very fresh. They had some fun looking cocktails and mocktails, with some beer options. They took care to plate the food nicely, and from where I was sitting I had a great view / show of the kitchen (chef seating). Dishes were nice, plates, silverware, water refills were refreshed. Napkins folded when using bathroom, all the finishing touches of a fine dining experience. I'd honestly go back in a flash to try some of their other dishes and plan to tell more friends about it. How does fall off the bone ribs sound? What about a gorgeous restaurant in the heart of wynwood serving the most amazing escargot you could ever have. I dare you to find me a better one. Amazing satay options and colorful sashimi. Wayan is exceptionally beautiful straight from New York introducing a beautiful fusion of Indonesian and French food that I will not be able to ever forget. Their bar is gorgeous the fried chicken is incredible crispy and light and just when I thought the lobster noodles were just going to disappoint, they were one of the favorites of the night. It's really hard to really not like something here. It's the kind of place where you have to invite a ton of friends so you can eat a bit of it all. I was excited to try Wayan for its described French-Indonesian fusion; as part Indonesian myself, seeing new takes on familiar flavors is creativity at its finest. I think Wayan did a great job of introducing tasty dishes that stood well on their own. The lobster noodles are peppery, umami, and studded with creamy lobster - definitely not one to miss. We also polished off the refreshing tamarind citrus salad (reminded me of a Thai tea-leaf salad), crispy Brussels, and tamarind glazed ribs. I wanted the ribs to crack with a crispier glaze, but the flavor was rich. The interior is nicely draped in jewel tones and is spacious inside. TL;DR The Vibe: Stunning, plant-filled oasis in Wynwood. Perfect for groups as well as dates. The Service: 10/10. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and seamless. Must-Order Dishes: Lobster Noodles (rich/silky), Short Rib Fried Rice, and the Octopus a la Plancha. The "Trust Me" Dessert: Chocolate chip cookie with cheddar ice cream. It sounds wild; it tastes incredible. FULL REVIEW: My favourite NY restaurant has come to Miami, offering terrific Indonesian cuisine in a stunning, plant-filled Wynwood setting. As a large group, we were able to sample most of the menu, and I am very happy to report that it lives up to its NY counterpart - which is not always the case with transplants. Additionally, the service is enthusiastic and seamless, despite the restaurant only having been open for a few weeks. (I have been to Wayan's Hamptons pop-ups as well, and the service is always exemplary because they second part of their NYC team to all new locations to maintain consistency.) The Food Since I was ordering for the group, Nicole walked me through the menu to ensure we hit all the highlights (and my favs!). The combo satay platter is a great way to kick off the meal; each protein featured a different, delicious sauce. We also shared several small plates, including the tamarind citrus salad, which was zesty and refreshing; my favourite vegetable spring rolls with their simple, understated flavors and delicious dipping sauce; and the octopus a la plancha, which can proudly hold its head high in a sea of Miami grilled octopuses. Moving on to the larger plates, the delicate red snapper with chili calamansi was beautifully presented in a banana leaf and was a big hit at the table. We were fortunate enough to snag the last order of the delicious short rib fried rice, which came with a generous amount of succulent meat. The fried chicken was crispy and very tasty, and the lobster noodles NEVER (EVER) disappoint. The noodles are rich and silky and an absolute must to share! For sides, we had the nasi goreng - a very tasty, not-at-all-oily Indonesian fried rice - and the corn fritters that I can't (should, but won't) live without. Dessert Dessert is usually the weakest link in Asian restaurants, in my opinion, but not at Wayan! At this point, everyone was full and nobody "really wanted dessert" (I always do, but it seems you're never supposed to admit it and hope that someone else orders it). Luckily, I was the one ordering so I got one of each. Pandan Custard: Always my go-to. It is very smooth (think crème brûlée), not too sweet, and perfectly complemented by the passion fruit pulp. Chocolate Mousse: Ethereal and served with avocado ice cream, which we deemed "healthy" as well as delicious as one must always look at the bright side of dessert! Banana Sundae: Beautifully caramelised bananas, cake and ube ice cream--great, but perhaps not the top choice if you're limited on space. Chocolate Chip Cookie with Cheddar Ice Cream: The most popular among the "non-desserters." Cheese and chocolate? Trust me, it works! Tipples Wayan has a full bar and a nice list of very unique cocktails and mocktails. They tend to be on the sweeter side, so ask for recommendations if you prefer a different flavour profile. It should be pretty clear by now that I'm a fan. I confess I have been begging them to come to Miami for years.
