Flavor in every bite. While walking around downtown Miami, I stumbled upon Bali Cafe and decided to give it a try. When you first walk in, you encounter a decent indoor area, not really a place you want to spend countless hours, but perfectly good for a quick meal. The one thing to note is that strong smells linger in the air. During my visit, service was perfectly fine, quick, helpful, and made sure I always had my glass of water full. But the true star at Bali Cafe is definitely the food. The menu has a wide array of options to choose from, Indonesian staples to sushi (although some options are just different combinations of themselves). You can expect to spend around $20-25 for a decently sized entree. I ordered the Lontong Cap Gomeh, one of their signature dishes. It was definitely tasty; in each bite, I could taste a delicious combination of spices; but it was not the best I have ever had. All in all, if you are craving flavors from Southeast Asia, Bali Cafe is a great alternative in downtown Miami. Came for lunch yesterday and had the Lontong Cap Gomeh, which is a tasty combination of chicken curry, rendang, steamed vegetables, and small pieces of rice cake topped with garlic crackers (aka shrimp chips). It was as delicious as always!! Another coworker, who also had it, enjoyed it as well. My other 5 coworkers had the Nasi Goreng Special, which offers special fried rice, opor ayam, rendang, steamed vegetables, pickled carrot and cucumber, and garlic crackers. Had a solid dinner experience here on a Monday night with a friend of mine. I found this place to be on the pricier side, but what isn't anymore? Downtown rent in Miami I can only imagine is expensive. We ordered three plates which included the Ikan Pesmol/Balado, the Nasi Goreng Special, and Bihum Ayam Jakarta. All of them very different but very tasty and fresh in all aspects. We also got a miso soup that came with one of the main plates which was yummy. Bali cafe was on my list of Asian restaurants to try. It's been very hard to find what I like. My friend and I came after a yoga class needing a much deserved meal and they sat us in the fun little booths up front. I wanted the Indonesian food specifically but they have a lot of other different Asian dishes on the menu. I ordered the rengdang sapi set that came with a miso soup and I loveeeed the coconut sauce in the beef. I never had it before but I know the sauce was gonna be fire. The beef was shreddy (think of it like pulled pork) so there was a lot of yummy flavor infused into it. It came with rice and some veggies. It was a pretty good portion for me. The miso soup was ok but I would love if they offer a more Indonesian type style soup instead to go with the set. I also got the Jasmine tea (unsweetened) but I think it was quite watered down and I didn't taste much of the Jasmine flavor. I'm Indonesian and so was a friend that joined us, we both liked it. My fiancee was also a huge fan. We ordered the opor ayam, nasi goreng special, ikan balado, soto Betawi, gado gado, and rendang. Except the soto Betawi all of the dishes were amazing. The rendang was tender and flavorful, the ikan balado had really well made fish with great sauce. The only issue was the soto Betawi being too salty but that might've been because we got the last of the batch. Besides that absolutely amazing and even better than some restaurants in actual Indonesia. Service (5/5): Awesome and super friendly service. I was able to speak Indonesian to the servers and they had a great attitude. The food came out fast and we really enjoyed the experience. I have visited several times before making a review, and everything I have tried has been absolutely delicious. The flavors are complex and warm and appeal to a variety of Asian tastes. I was super excited to go to this restaurant because I don't see many Indonesian restaurants. I tried my best to not over order because I wanted to try so many food. At the end, we ordered rendang sapi, Soto betawi, and opor ayam. My fiance and I love Soto betawi, but this restaurant made it way too salty. The meat inside was way too dry. I was a bit disappointed at this soup. I felt like we got the leftover of the soup and they reheated it that's why the meat was so dry. However, the other two dishes were very yummy. The rendang was super tender and flavorful. The chicken curry was tender and delicious also. The service was good and she checked up on us. There was only one server and I think she handled it very well by herself. The decorations were very cool. They have Indonesian statues and pictures everywhere. I thought I went into a museum. It tasted very garlicky (not in a good way) and shouldn't come with western meatballs. WOW! I was truly blown away by this place. Wow. We were seated in the best table in the house - the one in the window with the seat on the ledge. Our waitress was very nice. We got the Ketoprak and Gado Gado. Both of them looked the exact same from the top with the shrimp chips and drizzle. The ketoprak was the most amazing thing I have had in a while. Nasi Goreng Special- I got this the first time there and it was the perfect variety to try different flavors. There was a good balance of sweet, tangy, savory, and freshness in each dish. White Fish- Normally I don't like fish because fish tends to be dry and fishy but Bali Cafe has consistently impressed me. My friend got the fish the first time and it was so good that I had to go back for it myself. It's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The two sauces give variety to each bite, and it's plenty of food, especially with the side salad. Side Salad- Best side salad I've ever had. The dressing is more complex than those simple ginger dressings at other asian restaurants. The toppings also go above and beyond, adding color and nutrition to the meal. Laksa- I'm not as big on curry but I tried my friend's laksa and it was yummy. It's loaded with veggies and other ingredients that keep the dish interesting. Es Cincau- overpriced for what you get, but still a refreshing drink. It was pretty sweet so I diluted it with some water Soda Gembira- reminds me of liquid bubblegum in a good way. also pretty sweet but was interesting to try Es Campur- love these kinds of deserts with different fruits, textures, and condensed milk Note that a lot of the dishes have peanuts in them, but they also have plenty of delish meals without peanuts. I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon with my family. This place was conveniently located in Downtown Miami and seemed different from other restaurants in the area. We ordered the beef rendang lunch set, the white fish lunch set, and the salmon and tuna lover sushi lunch set. All lunch sets came with white rice, vegetables, and miso soup or salad. The dishes were a bit pricey but the portions were very large. The beef rendang was very tender and you could definitely taste the coconut. The fish was fresh and the curry sauce was flavorful. Bali Cafe is a nice break from the Cuban (albeit amazing Cuban) food that Miami has to offer with fantastic hospitality as well. I ordered the steamed shumai and laksa noodle dish. Both were delicious and priced very reasonably. I loved the use of the peanut sauce for the shumai (versus the typical soy sauce) and the laksa curry was not overpowering but very tasty. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try! I somehow stumbled upon it a few years ago when they were only dine in and cash only. Luckily, since then, they have switched to accepting card payments and are on Uber Eats. Anflavors here are unmatched! I have yet to find another Indonesian restaurant in Miami. If you're a first timer, I would recommend the Nasi Goreng special because you get a little bit of a few things- a curried chicken, shredded beef cooked with coconut milk (Rendeng) and fried rice, amongst other sides. My other favorite is the Ketoprak, which is a fried vermicelli noodle dish with tofu and rice cakes. So good!
