This review, like the other bad reviews here, are not about the quality of sugaring services. She does a great job with that. It's about the militant policy and the assumption that her time is more important than anyone else's. This business has all the shortcomings of a large company, and none of the benefits of a small business. I originally was waxed a little 4 weeks ago. April advised that I come back five weeks later. I run a tight and busy schedule between school, work, and caretaking for an ill family member. During the interim my cell phone was broken by the ill family member (dementia) and I had to switch my phone out. When it came closer to the appointment, I looked through my emails and did not see an original booking message. My calendar did not carry over, and I then received a text message 24 hours before the appointment. I was surprised, because most salons will send a booking email and then a reminder before their cancellation policy... something for confirmation at the onset. I showed up on time with a mask on, and wanted to rebook as I had hardly any regrowth. She was immediately angry, telling me that "she deals with people like me all the time." I was pretty shocked. Not only that she was so quick to anger, but that me showing up and using my time (because time is money for everyone) meant absolutely nothing. She angrily said that she pays for the roof over her head with the clients she has keeping the appointments. Good to know I'm just another blank face with a credit card. I have worked in customer service in 5 star hotels, fine dining restaurants, and for companies that have excellent customer service. The basic concept is that both parties' time is important, not just one. Another concept is that I would often choose to go to "mom and pop" businesses to support them instead of larger companies. The understanding was always that if they would be accommodating every once in a while, then I would tip an increasing amount each time, usually topping off at 30-35%. I have always supported service people. But at this business, it has been made abundantly clear that this is not a service oriented business. It is a profit-driven business where everyone is merely a number. She then kicked me out, telling me that she's always fully booked and doesn't need any more money. That was a weird contradiction and told me that she was speaking from emotion, and not reason. If you are nearby or have more flexibility with your time, and don't mind being treated somehow worse than all of the service companies I've worked for before in the past two decades, should you ever take an effort and show up to reschedule out of good faith, then please by all means be a patron to this establishment. But if you are looking for someone who truly values people and honest customer service, this is definitely not the place for you. April doesn't even bother to send out a booking confirmation. I've shown up 15 minutes early to everything I've been responsible in my life: work, school, appointments. I showed up on time this time. Again, didn't even register since I wanted to reschedule and not pay for having two hairs waxed. This has nothing to do with entitlement on my end. I just don't have the time or the patience to deal with people who do not understand the basic tenets of good customer service or the way that the tipping system works in America.... meaning if you extend excellent customer service, you tip an excellent amount. I would have included this appointment's service amount in my tip had I been allowed to reschedule. I only give my money to businesses and people who understand customer service and have the humility to work with people. Hubris is not something I will ever deal with when it comes to paying for a service that is not a necessity from an economic standpoint. If I were to run my own business, and felt overwhelmed, I would at least automate a booking confirmation email or have a booking confirmation template ready to send in case anything happens to a client's calendar, as most people now track it via their phones and various devices. But she insists that everything she does is perfect and there's no room for improvement, and clearly everyone else has a problem. Talk about shifting the accountability and responsibility. read more

April is the most efficient and effective sugar service there is. Little pain, no ingrown (8 years with Waxy Moon - zero ingrown!) She's got her method down exceptionally well - hopefully teaches others! The salon is spotless. Miss Sydney, being a whiney snot about the policies SHE UNDERSTOOD (don't be late, pay for your appointment if you are) apparently thinks it's okay to make others late because we're scheduled after her. Professional, prompt, and pet-time! She does a quick and thorough job and gets you in and out in a flash. I'm not there to savor the pain, so that's a win for me. Her two dogs are super relaxed and appreciate a little attention too. Sliding pay scale is new to me, but I just mentally rolled tip and everything into the higher end of her scale and felt good with that. Will be a return customer! Waxy Moon is located in a cute little area on Madison and 23rd in Seattle. Very clean, modern, and relaxing place. I love love that she has her two dogs there! They are the cutest :) April is the best, I swear! I have never had such a pleasant experience with waxing. Yes I said pleasant. She is personable, prices are reasonable, and professional. I have been going to her a little over a month now and my first sugaring experience was painful but she was so kind and encouraging the whole time. Also, very distracting - she is great at this. I low key have been avoiding writing this review because I seriously want April to myself. I've been going to April consistently every 5 weeks for over a year now and I've been more than happy with the results. Her name is a little deceiving since she's the sugaring queen! She's very knowledgeable in her work and knows exactly what to do. The two things I absolutely love about her work is 1. Her efficiency 2. Her distraction. She is actually affordable unlike most places out there in Seattle. $40 for the first sugaring and then $25 for each maintenance appointment (ie every 4-6 weeks). 2. She is FAST. I'm in and out in 15-20 min. This includes making my next appointment, chit chatting, paying, and sometimes, getting my upper lip and brows cleaned up. 3. Her place is clean and relaxing. I was excited to try out Waxy Moon because of the reviews and prices but I have yet to do it and probably wont. This review is based off of communication in trying to schedule an appointment with Waxy Moon. It's not about the waxing services as it seems she does a great job. I work 8-5, M-F. I emailed to book an appointment with a group of people on the weekend. I received a drawn out email back explaining a crazy and hectic work schedule. It went on to talk about work life balance and the fact that she can't work weekends because she works 2 jobs weekdays. I get it. I've worked two jobs before so I know how it is. I sent another email back asking for a evening appointment over the WEEKDAY. In response I received another lengthy email about work life balance and that she cannot work in the evenings due to the fact that she starts her other job in the early am. Again, I get it BUT please just let me know when you do work so I can figure it out with my schedule! I'm emailing a place of business and I want straight forward answers. All in all I didn't end up booking an appointment because our schedules didn't match, which is fine but obviously we are both busy and three to four emails going back and forth isn't saving anyone time. read more

I started looking for Sugaring after a horrible experience with hot wax, I had been going to the same person down in belltown for 5 years and it was a hard and sad break to make but my skin had a mind of its own, as did my wallet apparently. I found waxy moon aka april here on Yelp and have never looked back. Yes her scheduling is kind of hard because she is full, (that is only a testament to her fantastic skills) but I haven't had an issue with it thus far. April has a great sense of humor, is professional, knows how to work with my hair and makes showing your Vag to a stranger totally feel comfortable. She has a clean studio, lots of light and is always playing the best movies on her T.V when I walk in. She is fast and its nearly always painless, well as painless as that experience can be. April is a great resource to have in my neighborhood. She was super easy to book - just text her! - and her in-home sugaring studio was easy to reach, with free street parking. Her little old Frenchie greeted me when I arrived. The studio itself was small but cute, clean, and comfortable. The space was very intimate, made even more so because April stayed in the room while I undressed from the waist down and climbed onto the table. I was surprised, but not truly bothered. If you're more shy, you might ask her for a minute of privacy. I asked for extended bikini + crack to be sugared, and the cost was incredible - I remember it being somewhere around $30 for both, wow! The sugaring was very fast, but it hurt a lot more than I'm used to. April is easy to chat with, so that helps with the distraction, but it was still more painful than other sugaring experiences I've had. I also quietly experienced some embarrassment during the crack sugaring - I mean, it's an indelicate procedure no matter what, but lying on my stomach and spreading my cheeks with my hands made me feel a little overexposed. In other sugaring salons, I usually lie on my side with one knee up and lift only one cheek at a time. Not quite as fast, but just as effective and a little less mortifying. It was all over in the space of 15 minutes. I was given a warm, moist cloth to clean myself off, but I felt weird doing that in front of April so I only passed it briefly over my nethers (and finished later at home). I paid with a check; cash is also accepted. A little more hair was taken off than I wanted, and I noticed that I ended up with more ingrown hairs than usual - usually I get none, but this time I had several. I have been seeing April for Brazilians for over four years and she always does a stellar job. So when I found out she was doing Microblading as a new venture I knew I needed to try it out. She did NOT disappoint. My brows look AMAZING and I get complimented on them almost daily. Best decision I have ever made. She had me draw my brows on the way I would normally do them so that when she did them she had a template for exactly the way I wanted them so they would look the most natural. I have to second the first reviewer. April is amazing. She is the queen of sugar! Her skill is amazing, but her customer service is second to none. She goes above and beyond. She is great at making you feel at ease as she rips the hair out of you! She even stays calm when you go into labor on her table! She helped me pack my hospital bag (baby decided to come a bit early), she entertained my toddler while I ran around in circles, and she even did my dishes! I was able to get an appointment fairly right away with April. Despite being heavily pregnant, she was so fast and made it super easy. The prices, like others have noted, are super affordable and her home studio is clean and lovely. I did have my toddler with me when I went to the appointment and I wish I had known that there are a set of stairs leading from the street up to the townhouse. I dont think many others would have their kids with them, but in case you do, just know that you really can't take your stroller with you inside anyways, so plan accordingly.
