I stopped in for breakfast on a Monday morning. Even at 10am, it was really busy but we were able to get a table without waiting. Decorated with pictures of the history of the town, a very mom & pop diner warm feeling. The staff was super friendly and nice. We both ordered ham and cheese omelets with home fries. It took a while to get our orders, but with the smallish griddle they have and as busy as it was, it was understandable and worth the wait. Staff was very attentive. The home fries stole the show. Easily the best home fries I've ever had. Our omelets were good too. I had the 2 egg version and it was still a large portion. Overall - wonderful location, staff and food. read more

We put our name on the list, waited to be called, came when they called, they sat us down and then we waited and waited and WAITED. And no one came. I was really excited to go to the Water St. cafe when I saw they made house made sourdough. It looks like a tiny diner with table outside but I did see another room inside with more tables. We got the sourdough French toast which was delightful and the hash omelet. The real issue I had with the experience was the coffee, it was so watered down that I was completely turned off. There was also a bee problem, we had to rush our meal because we were getting swarmed by multiple bees while sitting there, my husband was even stung. While I love bees and don't have any issues with them being around I was surprised by how aggressive they were. Overall, I would go back for the French toast but since the coffee was so bad I don't think I would choose to have breakfast there again if I came back. read more

Went here for breakfast. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The vibe is perfect in there. The food was great and the service and prices you can't beat. Great spot to have breakfast or lunch. Great value! What a lovely brunch we enjoyed at the Water St Cafe. We didn't go more than 5 minutes without a warm-up on our coffee. Excellent service. The portions were generous and food was flavorful. As a starter we enjoyed home fries loaded with homemade sausage gravy. That was a meal in itself! The coffee mugs were a hand-thrown pottery that was unique and beautiful. We stopped in on a Saturday and there was a local brewery offering their drinks, along with a volleyball team raising money for a trip. Lots of young people in the "team room". It was an engaging spot to enjoy food and we would definitely return! Good meetup place for friends. read more

Friday morning breakfast, our first of the trip to the Finger Lakes we stopped here for some food. Smaller place with a very friendly staff and a small tight-knit community. We were sat in the middle of the floor near the bar on a two-top. Started off with coffee and a water, and settled on the make your own burrito and added one pancake which I noticed were very large. The burrito, which I misheard, came with chopped or cubed sausage - had I known I would have ordered bacon, cheese eggs, peppers and onions. Again - it was my fault but it still tasted good. I just don't like the feeling of a soft burrito filled with cubed meat. The pancake was good a slathered it in butter and syrup. The staff was great and this was a nice start to the day and trip on the first full day. read more

Everyone was extremely nice & helpful. Nice big ceramic mugs for our coffee. I had the early morning special (before 9:00) - scrambled egg mixed with potatoes, toast & coffee for $5.99. I would starve to death before I ever spent a quarter here. We checked inside at the register with a woman who asked us if we wanted inside or outside. We opted for outside and she walked us to a table and even commented that we got her last outside table. We sat for about 15/20 minutes and no one ever came over. My husband went inside to check and came back out. A server came over and apologized and asked us what we wanted to drink and said she would bring over menus. Within seconds another woman that worked there came over and said she didn't seat us and could we move to a 2 top cause she wanted to put a 4 top at our table!!! What??? My husband graciously got up. I wouldn't have to be honest. We walked over to the 2 top. It was wet, dirty, and disappointing. Needless to say we left and will never go back. Servers were solid and helpful. Food. Four in our group and everyone was VERY happy with their orders. I had an omelette with provolone & roasted peppers, others had poached eggs & French toast (French toast didn't look like it, very cool & original), oatmeal that was surprisingly good and inventive, banana pancakes GLUTEN FREE (which my wife is truly grateful they offer gluten free pancakes and French toast), as I said everyone loved their food! Definitely pay attention to details. Just me getting the toast and having it buttered and melted is a LOVE of mine. I despise murdering a piece of toast with a cold piece of butter. Always a hit! Stopped here for brunch at 1230 pm.. they close at 1 on sundays... place was packed. We were greeted by a friendly server who offered us seats at the counter to order drinks and food until a table was ready for us, which it was within about 10 minutes. This is delicious, homemade dine food, quality ingredients, large servings and great service. I had a tuna melt on sourdough, and it was huge and delicious! One son had a breakfast burger that he devoured and the other son had a trash plate that was definitely a heart clogger, but he loved it! My husband had hash and eggs and ate every bite. We went to this place a couple of years ago and loved it. Good food service and friendly staff. That has changed. We had a party of 4, went to have breakfast on Friday morning; we were seated, took our coats off and were handed menus.Then, a group of 6 people walked in and the staff didn't know what to do, there were no tables open for 6, so they turned to the hostess(?) who told us to get up, take our menus, coats and silverware and move to a table she pointed at with her finger. She was rude and treated us like we worked for her. No "please..could you do us a favor?" Just: "You need to move so we can seat this group! Take your silverware, coats and menus and sit over there." Our chins hit the floor and the group of 6 felt awful. They apologized and the whole scene was horrible and unnecessary . I HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH MORE COURTESY AT DMV. The food was ok. Note also new...they do not butter your toast for breakfast, it comes dry with an on-site prepared little cup of orange margarine - this is also new. Also attached and new is a picture of a sign they have at each table. Kind of like "Our rules for customers." See bullet point #2. What does: "Please be Courteous with Your Time(sic)'' mean? This is followed by a rule where you need to wait outside for your table. I'm done, I do not go out to eat to be treated this way.....the people that own and run this place are taking things too far and should not be playing musical chairs with their customers. If the staff keeps acting like this, there will be plenty of free tables......soon! read more

What really took the cake was when a gentleman walked in who appeared to be a bit rough around the edges. They knew his name, talked to him with kindness and familiarity.
