I loved the setup and ambiance, and the first-come-first-served policy (no reservations) is a great concept. Coming in on a Tuesday night, the place was busy and the wait was about 30 minutes -- but there was free seating at the bar. Fair enough, not many restaurants were even open in Geneva on a Tuesday. The food was solid -- nothing extraordinary, but nothing to complain about either, and the presentation on those big plates is genuinely fun. The lady bartender had her hands full preparing drinks while also serving everyone seated at the bar, including food orders. It was sometimes hard to catch her attention, but overall she did a great job juggling it all. What really bothered me: the owner (CB) is one of the few Master Sommeliers in the world and a big promoter of the FLX wine region (which I love), so can anyone explain why a glass of FLX wine costs about 40% more than a glass of California or even Australian wine? The inside is nice BUT the amount of spider webs and SPIDERS hanging from the ceiling had me totally freaked out. This is the first restaurant we went to for dinner in Geneva and it was, unfortunately, a very disappointing experience despite their excellent reviews. Let me get to the details: Service: staffs were not attentive, friendly, nor helpful. The restaurant was busy when we came so we decided to seat outside. However, their outdoor tables were wobbly. Also, there were no bugs control devices nor heating lamps to accommodate us. When we asked to move inside, their response was we have to talk to the host and the hostess told us it is not possible because they were "too busy".... Yet we would see an empty table where they rather seat 2 people that come after us instead of us. On top of all that, our sever never came to refill our water. For service, this place is a zero star for me. Food: we ordered their famous heavy plate. The food size was loaded for the price, everything tastes fine but nothing was exceptional. Giving them some stars for the decent food. Atmosphere: inside has lots of booth style seatings and bar seatings. They can accomplish large parties. Outdoor seating is not great as their tables were cheap and they're seating on a slope. There were no heat lamps or bug controls so I don't recommend eating outside in the evening here. I've walked by The Rusty Pig dozens of times and hadn't had the opportunity to stop in until tonight. I ordered takeout around 4:15 and it was ready 20 minutes later. The hostess and bartenders were welcoming. There's definitely a "rustic" vibe to the inside of the restaurant. Their bar seemed to have some interesting drinks as well as all the usuals. There was outdoor seating available as well. I ordered the Brisket dinner and chose Mac and cheese as my side. It also came with honey cheddar cornbread and a bourbon apple coleslaw. The brisket fell apart and was really good. I just wish it had more of the barbecue sauce! Tasted great and had a nice char in spots. The mac and cheese might have been my favorite part is the meal. It's creamy and sharp, it even has a nice kick. I wasn't sure what to expect from the bourbon apple coleslaw, but it was a nice addition to the heavier parts of the meal and had a good sweetness to it. I also ordered an extra side of the baked beans, which were nicely balanced the sweet, savory, and spicy. They had a generous amount of meat in them as well. This is our second time and they did not disappoint. Nice place, clean. Service was great. Our waitress suggested the Smokey & Brisket Cracklins, BBQ Brisket on top of fried pork rinds, pickled jalapeños, and chipotle aioli. Soooooo Good! We couldn't stop eating it. You have to try it. Dinner we got the king pig because we live an hour away and needed leftovers. Lol! There was not a lick of seasoning to be found. They were fried in cornmeal and relied on the side condiment for flavor. After that I did not have high hopes for the food and I was correct. For dinner I ordered the brisket, elote and baked beans. The brisket was slathered in sauce and the meat was so bland. It tasted boiled and not smoked. Elote is literally one of my favorites dishes and their rendition was just strange. The Cole slaw tasted like perfume, everything tasted so odd. The food here is the star. We visited for dinner, with one of us getting the chicken tacos and the other getting the Pink Lady chicken sandwich with grilled chicken. We agreed that everything on our plates was delicious; the addition of the boursin cheese to the chicken sandwich was a stroke of genius. We've also had a fair amount of "fine" to "terrible" mac'n'cheese at restaurants, but this stuff was excellent. Ambience is very dark inside, especially if you're sitting at a table that doesn't have a light directly over it. The let-down here was the service, which comes down not to the individual server but the setup. We were sat at a dining table that was assigned to the bartender, apparently. This means the bartender has to leave the bar to attend to this table; you can guess how hard that is for the bartender on a busy night. We were confused when we saw other tables seated after us receiving prompt and attentive service while we waited 15 minutes without even a greeting or having a drinks order taken; when we flagged down the host she explained that the bartender would be serving us and would be along soon. It was probably a few minutes after that that we first saw our server. She was very warm and friendly, and we do not fault her for the slow start to our meal (nor for the fact that she was not able to come check back in with us during our meal until we were well into it). Our feedback for the management would be to change the system to find a way to re-allocate this one table to a floor server, rather than the bartender, as we would not stay for dinner again if we were given this table. read more

They were really busy on a weekend night when we got there at 6:30ish so we got window seats! It was a vibe but the seats were slightly uncomfortable because I was too short. My friend and I shared a "Cue for Two". The brisket had some fatty parts on it that were scrumptious (but the leaner parts of the meat were dry). The bangin shorties were good when they were hot/warm but got more tough as it got colder (it didn't help that we sat right next to the front door)! The pulled pork was delicious and had a sweet barbeque flavor that paired so well with the mac and cheese! I thought the fries were crispy and added perfect texture to the meal and broke through the monotony of just MEAT. The slaw failed where the fries succeeded: it was not tasty so it failed to act as a palate cleanser/refresher/compliment to the meat. It tasted like bland apples and was not what I imagined cold slaw to taste like: creamy, crunchy, and fresh. The corn bread came in cute brick shapes and it was a sweet nutty bite that tied everything on the plate together! Our server was very busy but, despite that, she came over to us multiple times to check in on how things were going for us and she paid close attention to when we needed certain things. Casual spot on the corner of Linden and Seneca Sts after seeing all the rave reviews we decided to check it out for lunch about 1:30pm on the 4th of July. Outdoor seating in the front which was nice and sunny and along the side with a bit of shade. We decided to dine in. Greeted right away by Erica as she was bringing food to a table of 10 we waited a very few minutes chutes before being seated at the front window. That's where I took the pic of the window from the inside lol. Not overly large but with plenty of seating noise level decent enough we could hold conversation in normal speaking voices. Shortly after being seated we laced our order for the smoked and grilled drumsticks and fries since we had dinner plans but wanted to try the food. We asked if the brisket could be ordered as is rather than as a part of something else and were told no substitutions. When the food arrived we did try the house made barbecue sauce which tasted similar to Heinz with red hot but was good. Fries were perfectly crispy in the outside and tender on the inside. The legs were very chilly in the middle and the meat was dry with a very salty skin likely reheated. I had a blue moon and my co-diner had an iced tea. Erica never reappeared to ask how our food was or to refill our drinks despite there being 4 servers and several empty tables. All in all not impressed with the premade and heated food or the service which was lacking. When asked if we wanted boxes or anything else she did not notice only 2 legs missing from the 6 leg order and never asked how everything was then either. Maybe will try again in the very distant future. For now we will try something else in Geneva next time we go. read more

The meat is a bit too fatty in my opinion and you end up paying for mostly fat. Do not order the street corn or coleslaw! Mexican street corn tastes of artificial flavor seasoning. Having lived in Mexico I can tell you this is not how street corn should taste. The coleslaw always looks days old and has an off flavor. I would describe The Rusty Pig as low quality, stoner bbq. It's good if you're okay with greasy low brow quality. Let's keep this short and sweet.... I absolutely enjoyed everything about our experience at the Rusty Pig. I honestly have NOTHING negative to say and would totally mark this as. Friends & Family Recommendation!!! My wife and I along with another couple made a day of exploring the area touring and doing tastings at a few Winery and Breweries in the surrounding. We were on our way home when we decided to stop in Geneva for a bite to eat before heading home. I'll be honest, this was not our first choice, but some of life's best events are the unplanned ones. Our meal and experience at the Rusty Pig is one such event. We will definitely be back.... Food....exceptional and generous portions. A pork lovers dream. Everyone at our table sampled each others and it was unanimous...OUT FREAKING Standing. I'd even go as far to say it was a Foodgasism event. Service....Emily was spot on the entire time.
