The students at Hobart frequent this place as well. It's a classic "college coffeehouse" It's a cool spot. I may not know what their coffee is like, but like most coffeehouses, this one also has hot chocolate! So! Being the 5 year old that I am, haha, I always get their hot chocolate...pic is attached :) Their hot chocolate is amazing. I don't care how old I get, I'll always have hot chocolate over coffee and especially in January! That said, last time I went in here was last January. Well, I stopped in back in July and was gonna meet a friend there. She is from Lyons. Doesn't know Geneva very well and had trouble finding it. So we went elsewhere. That friend...this was the first time meeting her. (This is where the sentimental value comes in) Her sister, Jeanette was my close friend and was my art teacher when I was in elementary and junior high. I met up with her last January. January 7th to be exact. I came back to Idaho and two days later she suffered a massive heart attack and passed away. I'm just so glad we had our last outing together and we went to Monaco's bc she absolutely loved Monaco's. It was always her first choice and if you have been, I'm sure you understand why. Jeanette and I would meet up a few times while I was home. Monaco's was our last get together almost every time I was home. I'd always see her the day I was flying back here to Idaho. So even tho going in there now...will be bittersweet. Sorry for the sob story. Just this place is special even if you're not a coffee drinker haha. She always made fun of me for my hot chocolate haha. We always sat in the center on the couches. This place is very comfortable. Plenty of seating. Huge windows in the front that are extra special to look Out during Winter and Fall. There's a HUGE tree across the street that is mine and Jeanette's favorite during Fall bc the colors are INSANE! I'll add a pic. The staff is super friendly. All of them so helpful and waste no time helping you. It's a tad pricey, but most of these coffee shops are...even my hot chocolate is pricey haha! Will I go back? Yeah and it'll be with Jeanette's sister. She has yet to try their coffee and wants to because her sister enjoyed this place so much. But that's fine. My breakfast sandwich was delicious. It was fried egg, bacon, and a Chipotle mayo that was just the right amount of kick to add complexity and interest to each bite. My honey lavender latte, however, was not it. I always get oat milk and this one tasted as if it had dairy milk in it. Also, it had a VERY strange and strong taste of rosemary... which was not mentioned nor was it tasty. It was hard to drink. My partner's chai latte was "too milky", his words. I also must say, they're pretty inexpensive for what you get, which is always a huge plus. When we arrived, we were offered free samples of their protein brownie, which was so good that I had to get one. Protein baked goods, I personally find to often be big misses so to find one that was this delicious was revolutionary to me. Beyond that, my fiancée and I both got tiramisu and flavored lattes and our friend ordered a large hot chocolate, a cronut (croissant doughnut) and some cookies for later. Our total came to only about $30 for all of us. The lattes were really delicious and although I couldn't taste the peppermint in mine (which I've been finding happens often recently, some places do it better than others) the latte itself was so good that I didn't mind the lack of the added flavor. The lattes were also really good sizes and I feel like I could have opted for a small next time. The tiramisu was nice and light while delicately balanced with slight espresso flavor. The cake was moist and soft which was a perfect compliment to the fluffy cloud of mascarpone. Our friend's hot chocolate was, again, enormous almost to the point of being comically large. She ended up really enjoying it, but taking most of it in a to-go cup. We all tried a bit of her cronut as well because it's been a long time since I'd had one and neither of them had ever had it. It was so yummy! It reminded me a lot of fried dough taste wise, but way better. The outside was a little crispy, almost like a churro, but the inside was layered like a flaky croissant. Whatever it reminded me of, it was extremely good and I'm totally getting it next time I'm there! They sell cookies and other pastries at the front. It's a "help yourself" and you scan a QR code to pay. So! Ok, I do love the new technology where you can eat out and scan a QR code and pay that way. Or using a QR code for so many other things. I don't however like this set up. I think it's really weird. Cash is also an option here. I wanted to originally pay cash. I got 2 cookies and a brownie. Says "ring bell if you need change" I press the little button 3x and I can see people in the back. Not one person came out after I hit the button. That's booooo! It's like, why have it if you're going to ignore it?! Just close the doors to the public and have it strictly as an online business. Ate the sandwich and then realized there was no bacon on it. Went back in. Manager said well your next sandwich is on me just tell them I said that. Would definitely not recommend this cafe to anyone unless they're absolutely starving. Eat before/after you visit here. Turkey BLT wrap 5/10 Mayo comes on the side so it doesn't get soggy. Smart. Wrap was very skimpy. There was maybe 1 or 2 slices of lunch meat turkey in it, and a slice of bacon. See photo. Not worth the price at all. Pasta salad 4/10 SUPER DRY. Was like eating plain wet noodles. Probably because it sat overnight. Needs more dressing for sure. The combination of ingredients were good together though. See photo. Iced latte with caramel 5/10 Couldn't even taste the caramel. Plenty of milk, but it was just poured in.. Not even frothed like a latte usually is.
